A great place for families. I have one daughter in gymnastics and the other loves to freestyle workout, swim and go running. Myself I love we can all do something in one location. Staff is friendly and helpful!
Everyone at the Birmingham Family YMCA is super nice and helpful. They know me by name and make an effort to say hi anytime Im in. The classes that I go to, Barre with Danielle and Cycle with Teri are very well taught. Clean facility. Well maintained machines and weights. The weight room gets a little crowded sometimes, but theres always a treadmill free.
I’ve been a member of the Boll YMCA for years but recently left downtown Detroit. The Birmingham YMCA has been a welcome substitute. Although not as updated, the space is well maintained and clean! Equipment is readily available when I visit in the mornings.
Awesome place for individuals and families. Staff are knowledgeable and super friendly. Membership prices are more than fair. YMCA is the place to be!
As always the YMCA is superb. Have been too several in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Always a wonderful experience.
Excellent pool, professional staff and welcoming environment. Clean and convenient.
Just a great place to go workout without a lot of fanfare. Great staff!
Very clean with Covid protocols in effect. It is great to workout again and I felt safe with social distancing equipment, everyone wearing a mask and plenty of sanitize spray bottles around. The Birmingham Family Y always was and will be my first choice to stay fit and healthy. Come see for yourself.
Very clean. Feel perfectly safe. Adhering to social distancing and everyone wearing masks. Its great to be back!
Everytime I come here a class has been canceled. Horrible update the website so people won’t have to drive all the way to the location. This has happened multiple times
The Birmingham Family YMCA is truly one of the most welcoming, positive, inclusive and encouraging gyms I have ever set foot in. My children and I are always greeted by smiling faces, and the facilities are always kept tidy and well-maintained. When we have questions, they are answered thoroughly, and we are always encouraged to try out new classes and programs. We love our time here and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a stress-free place to move your body and be part of a great community!
Love the Birmingham YMCA. The building is older - but the staff, fellow members and activities are great. Plus, the Y is a great cause and it feels good to support the community. Highly recommend checking it out!
Great lap pool!
I joined over a year ago. The locker rooms were outdated at the time and overall the place seemed a bit gloomy. I did receive a message they were updating the locker rooms. The open swim hours were not work or family friendly. I attempted to cancel my membership but they did not allow cancellations over the phone. There is not a way to cancel electronically either, terrible! Parking is HORRIBLE which is the main reason I have not been able to cancel since I am often traveling with an infant.
Everyone is friendly and the location is clean.
I am currently a stay at home mom and love this place. All the staff members are super friendly especially those in the child care center. I have a association membership and can go to a few different locations but choose to go to Birmingham (even though Farmington is closer to me.) I highly recommend this place. I am able to workout while my son gets to socialize with others his age. Cant stress enough how great the staff is!
Friendly and welcoming environment and great variety of classes and activities.
Stole my moms hard earned money because they dont know how to work their own database, “ your name is on the account but you dont have access to it since your name is not linked to the account. so you are a liability, i cant even let you in the building.” i was told after being hunted down. dont come here. how is it that my mom walks in and gets a family plan writing 3 other names down on the account, one of them being mine, but my brother has no problem getting in. makes no sense
Facility is older and needs updating and the layout is very strange. That being said, it has everything you need (treadmills, free weights, open gym time, lots of classes, pool, locker room). The staff is fantastic- very little turn over and I feel like we know most of them on a first name basis and vice versa. We love the child watch staff. As a women, I do not feel intimidated using the free weights. Judo instructors are world class (there are people that dive from Canada to train here). Yes, it is older but that probably keeps it less busy too.
Not too bad, except for the pool. Consider there is no pool as you never know when you can swim. They only have a few hours in the week when it is really opened and it is in the middle of the morning on weekdays, how convenient!! Plus they sometimes change the schedule without notice. Very very badEdit: pool schedule is still only for children or retired people, not people working during the day. All in all the $110 family membership is way overpriced for the service. Them being the only ones to have regular power shutdowns in the area regularly is also questionable. Will cancel membership.
Old design from the 1960s, clean, nice people present. Good swimming pool. Parking available.
Enjoyable basketball experience. Lots of little kids running around and that added to the fun for my young nephews.
Such a great place in the community for sports and fun. The kids love it here!
Love there pool, staff and people that we meet there. Ive developed new friends also enjoy going there.
It is good and the place has many fun activities but the pool is really dirty and needs cleaning up
Decent equipment, mens showers need repairs, steam room frequently out of order, no spa/whirlpool
My son has participated in programs here from age 5-11 and loves it
This YMCA has a friendly staff and a fair number of machines in the Wellness Center. The locker room is dated and the lockers are rusty. There is plenty of room to renovate as there is an unused space with a sofa and tv where no one ever sits. Locker rooms are downstairs and workout rooms are upstairs which is a little inconvenient.
Kind of old and in need of an update. Staff seems helpful most of the time, but but they are contending with an out of date computer system and business model. Pool area is ok and kept clean as are the lockers/locker room, but everything shows wear and tear.
I had a very poor experience with them. Even we paid the fee for my daughter, who was on their Girls On the Run program. They kept calling us that we havent paid the fee. We had to send them the copy of the paid check image twice. I wonder why they dont check with their own bank to verify who paid or not. It seems to me, their billing system is a mess, and very unprofessional. We dont want to deal with them again.
Fantastic summer camp for the kid! She loves it here.
I’ve been to this gym since I was a little kid. The staff are nice some of the employees and members basically know us, but there are improvements need to be made. For instance the adult locker room which you have to be 18 and up the same with the work out room (the lockers not all of them are rusted on the bottom, the carpet has a smell when it’s wet, when they put in the new carpet it did not last that long. The sauna needs an update for instance “completely fix the door so you don’t have to slam the door to close it”, the floor of the sauna is dirty pieces are missing. Most of the shower heads don’t work properly and some of the hooks are rusty. They do need to change the furniture in the woman’s locker room they are dirty and the TV is useless the picture is bad and there are no decent channels to watch when working out. A long time ago there were more choices of channels to watch. Now for the unnecessary changes to the work out room, like changing the weights and machines that were perfectly fine, for instance they got rid of 4 weights that I always used every time I came to the Y that was oftenly used. It’s also uncomfortable to change in the ladies locker room when there are underage kids that are supposed to use the kids locker room (excluding kids that can’t be left alone).
Great place for working out, sauna and family fun.
This place is so enjoyable, the staff is the GREATEST !!!!! EVER.
Nice place to get a Good workout in be it solo or in a group
Not the largest YMCA but good enough to play basketball in
