We had rented a vehicle months in advance. Even verified that it was available the day before pick up. We got there and were told (from the locked door) there were no cars and we mentioned the specific vehicle we had rented and she said she had that one. So we were let in only to find out they couldn’t rent the vehicle to us for some reason. Multiple reasons were given for this so not sure what the actual problem was. We paid $700 for this vehicle months in advance, verified the day before and still left without a vehicle and no money returned. We were told we had to contact customer service for the refund. And that it would be 7-10 business days. So they’ve had our money for MONTHS. Can’t rent us the vehicle. But we won’t have our money back for possibly 2 weeks. Very bad business practices. There were over 130 people affected by this at this particular location over the course of two days. We live an hour away from this location, had we been notified of the problem before hand we wouldn’t have wasted our time and gas driving down there and could have spent the day looking for a replacement vehicle because finding one at the last minute proved to be a difficult task. We will not rent from them again, I recommend that you don’t either because going back months in these reviews this is an ongoing problem. Save your time, money and sanity.
Horrible customer service in office and with the 1800 number. Called yesterday to confirm our 12 passenger van rental to be picked up today. Drove an hour to pick it up and there was some issue and the van couldn’t be rented even though it was on site. While the lady was undoubtedly frustrated she was also hateful and unwilling to help us understand why it couldn’t be rented and unwilling to help us get it sorted out. They also had to turn away over 130 people because they had no cars even though rentals had been paid for well in advance. Ridiculous and unacceptable. I will not use Avis again.
Be aware, apparently having a reservation and paying in advance does not ensure that you get a car. I feel so bad for the woman working the desk. It’s not her fault but it is absolute BS. We booked months ago!! They shouldn’t be renting cars they don’t have. We ended up taking a 50 dollar Uber from the airport and another 49 dollar one to the hotel on top of the cost we are out on the car. This is unacceptable. There were 4 other people in the office dealing with the same issue we were having.
DO NOT GO HERE!!Made a reservation 2 months ahead.They called my wife the day before to tell us they didn’t have that car, but they’d gives a similar on.We thought, okay, that’s fine.We get there, the car is not there, we’re on a tight schedule, so we’re trying to see if we need to go somewhere else.The car gets there, but it’s dirty.We had to wait like 30 minutes for the guy that was gonna get there but he didn’t so we decided to take it like that, they took $40 for “cleaning fee”The lady who looked and acted like she had just gotten out of bed said there was no other fees after that.We returned the car and they charged us an extra $135 for the “cleaning fee”.Absolutely ridiculous, horrible.This place is a joke.
Unfortunately the staff was detrimental to my experience with Avis. Dont believe Ill be renting from the Collinade branch or Birmingham branches for that matter. Just got nothing but smart elick remarks and negative energy when inquiring about a Handicap accessible vehicle! Definitely not on my do again List!
This is the 2nd time that I have tried to rent here, with a reservation, and was unable to. Last time they were closed (even though their hours listed were within the time I got there) and today they say they have no cars. I will never again use them. I should’ve known better. Also, the people in there have absolutely NO customer service skills. Are you guys really THAT desperate for people because my God.
The worst experience I’ve ever had with a car rental facility. I made a reservation for 430pm and at 200 I was called and told they closed at 3:00pm If I was going to make my trip, I would need to leave work, my team, my students tell my principal etc with duties that I had previously made a commitment to see through. I’m so disgusted with my experience I’m looking to buy or lease a car when I get back from my trip. As long as I have this experience in my mind, I’ll never rent from them again. They advertised a price of 113$ but when I got there, they tacked on almost 50 or more dollars. The Avis rep claimed it was Priceline but Priceline has never done that before which is why I keep using them as a 3rd party booking app.
Rented a vehicle from Avis at the airport. Was pulled over by the police for an expired tag. Though it wasn’t a problem really he gave me a warning. But it’s a wast of time when it can be prevented. So I called customer service and they instructed me to go to this location. When I arrived here they said Oh we don’t have any cars available to do an exchange. So I thought the rep on the phone didn’t know their limited car situation. But then I opened my Avis app and searched to see if I could make a reservation. Behold they have every single class of car available. Pictures posted below. So I don’t know if I was lied to or what. But I will not return to Avis. I am a customer who has over 68 rental days with them this year alone. So I will go to Enterprise!
What a joke, I had a car reserved in Birmingham Al Airport for Friday 3/26. When I arrived the counter was closed. Its now 10pm at night and no one from Avis will answer a call.Well now it Sat morning and after 20 calls and still no one will answer the phone. Im out a taxi ride to hotel and no rental car that Ive been charged for.Never again Avis, you have got to be the Worst Car Rental agency EVER!
Extremely horrible experience here. We had a confirmed reservation for Saturday at 8AM only to show up and see a sign posted that the location stating they are only M-F. Extremely strange because our reservation was confirmed and when I contacted customer service they stated it should be open. An hour or so after 8AM and a few customer service calls later someone finally opens the door, but tries telling me the system is down and they have no clean vehicles. Really? My reservation was confirmed, and the system doesn’t clean the vehicles. I was over 600 miles from home with no other options. During a global pandemic I basically had to convince this person to give me a vehicle and then I was charged more for 1 way delivery that was never disclosed in my booking. Corporate is no better as they are trying to ignore the issue even after providing photos of the vehicle with a slip claiming it had been clean.
My sister reserved a car here over a week ago. When she entered around 2:15 pm, both her and a couple were told that no cars were available, that they were already given away. She was not given back a deposit on site but told to follow it up with corporate on top of finding a new rental. When we called but couldnt reach anyone, we walked back to talk to them. They supposedly close at 3 pm, but had locked us out at 2:30 pm. At 2:40 pm a gentleman walked up to the office with a reservation after us. The woman who worked there wouldnt let him in and told him from the door that his reserved car was not there. At 2:50 pm this again happened with to a different gentleman who had booked several weeks ago. *** This is their business model, youve been warned. Complete rip off across the board, they dont deserve to be in business and they dont deserve your time and money. ***
I got a call from my GF at 4 pm CST saying that her sister booked rental car with AVIS and was supposed to get that today in the afternoon but she did not. She and a lot of other people who booked a reservation before were denied a car. When they both reached to this location, there were no one allowed inside. Other people also came and tried entering but were denied. They also tried calling them but no one responded. There was a lady who locked them and the other people from entering. They tried calling them but still they did not respond from inside. There was a sign board on the door saying No cars available. At least 30 people or more didnt get rental cars even though they had reservations and this definitely sucks. Its a matter of shame that this happened. I am reporting this on social media and local news. Hope you learn a damn lesson.
DOWNHILL! Look at the trend of reviews since Chad left.FRUSTRATING! AVIS and this location have spiraled customer service to zero. Our company has been Preferred for nearly 10 years renting cars all over the world. This location was our local choice. In the past several months, the location management has changed their phone system to a loop to avoid answering calls. And, they have missed nearly all our rentals.UNPROFESSIONAL! In a most recent case, we even PREPAID a week rental. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle, the office doors were locked, the sign said no cars available. The associates were inside and would not make eye contact or come to the door to explain our options. When we spoke to customer service, they said they were sorry because they were in a different country and couldn’t helpHow do you accept prepayment for a rental and not deliver it, or even worse rent a prepaid car to someone else? I cannot image the explanation, which we have yet to receive from AVIS.UNRELIABLE! We are moving our car renting needs to another company who is. It seems National is emerging popular and reliable.

Do not book through Avis! Placed car reservation through Expedia on 3/15 to pick up on 3/19. Arrived to pick up car at expected time at the Colonnade location and there were signs on the door that there were no cars available. I went inside and asked as I had a reservation, and was told that there were no cars and to call corporate. Several other people entered who had made reservations, and were told the same thing. The brochure I was given by the attendants at Avis to call did not have the corporate number, only customer service. I called customer service, and was told that since some cars arent returned to the right location that they run out of cars. I asked if there were ANY cars in the area that I could book, and there were none through Avis. I checked with all the other car rentals I could think of in a 50 mile radius of Birmingham, and all of them were booked as well.This is not acceptable that there are no cars available even with making a reservation. Not only that, there was not even another location that I could go to to pick up a car. This has been extremely inconvenient and for some people they did not have any alternatives for rides. The attendants at Avis as well were very rude and not helpful with figuring this out.
Bad service!! They are supposed to be open from 9 to 12 on Saturday. Been here 45 minutes. Nobody is in office, no one answers the phone. I guess Im going to be charged an extra day now. Not impressed!
I would give it no stars. This is the worst place i have ever rented a car. DO NOT EVER USE THIS PLACE FOR A RENTAL. There are 5 customers out front complaining about the same thing that the reservation is not ready when they made it. And that the customer service is horrible.
Call the head to rent a car and get here they rented our car out they going to give us something else they didnt tell us the price that it was going to be and we get here and they going to charge us they say $600 they charge us almost $1,000 for a car that we didnt even rent it I dont think thats fair I would never ever rent a car from this company ever again.

I usually use Hertz as a #1 choice, Enterprise as a 2nd choice. My sis recommended that I try Avis because it may be cheaper and it was via online booking and customer service booking representative. I booked my reservation. Got there and it most certainly was not cheaper. I suggested that we call customer service to see if they could help or override the prices they were pulling up in the actual location, Chad told me that there wasnt any use in calling anybody because he make the decisions and that this location does not honor the reservation prices, online prices, or the ones set by the customer service booking representative.Thanks Avis, for helping me to better understand that going cheaper isnt what its all cracked up to be.
Avis is the best by far! Every experience has been great and Chad left an amazing long lasting experience from my very first visit. Always in and out.
On 4/30/19 I called and made reservations for 5/3 thru 5/5. I called in on 5/1/19 to cancel the reservations. I was told that I there will be a 50.00 cancellation/processing fee if I cancelled 24 hours before the pickup time. I went back and read the cancellation policy on my papers and it does state that. Thats my fault for the misinterpretation. I read it to mean that if its a 24 hour time frame that you call within picking up the car rental, a 50.00 fee will be assessed. But reading on, theres a 150.00 charge if you cancel within the 24 hours period. These charges are processing fee. Non the less, I prepaid for the car to get a discount of 16.00, but only to get bamboozled out of 50.00 for what I thought was a good thing to cancel more than 24 hours in advance. Its a tricky situation. Because think about it, who would penalize you for cancelling your reservation a reasonable time in advance.(2 days) But that was a lesson learned. I will never go to Avis again, and I will spread the word to please dont go to Avis, because they are a rip-off. The only reason that I cancelled is because I needed to downgrade from a Van to something smaller. And I decided to drive my car instead. Try Enterprise. They are much more flexible. I had them hold a car for me also, but I cancelled with them and was not charged a early cancellation/processing fee.

I have used these folks twice. Both highly favorable experiences. The cars were new or nearly new, clean, extremely affordable (using Costco membership discount) and convenient to the house. Chad has always been friendly and cooperative. Dont know what other folks expectations were but I suspect they might have been unrealistic. Want something to cry about try Enterprise.
I’ve always rented from Enterprise in Alabaster (HIGHLY RECOMMEND, BTW) decided to try Avis twice. The first time I couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone to give me directions. Once I arrived they handed me the keys and told me what model car it was (didn’t even know the color) and told me to push the panic button to find it!!!!The second time Chad was VERY friendly. However, the car had VISIBLE damage that I told him about prior to my rental... I was assured it was not a big deal. Since I didn’t sign anything saying there was no prior damage I didn’t make a fuss. Over a month later I recieved a damage claim saying I owed them!!!!I’ll stick with Enterprise, thanks Avis for reminding me it doesn’t always pay to save a dollar!

Its so sad to have to write a review this petty. I can not believe the horrible experience I just had with the representative at this location.. I cant believe the repetitiveness that had to be displayed. Our household is biracial and that shouldnt have to be explained when walking up to the counter. I have a reservation and this is my spouse and my add on driver. So, I need to know who is such and such and youre both add on drivers. Rude!!! What really pisst me off was the remark of if the money was on the card.. No offense!!! Our accounts have more money in it than that location possibly allocates in a month.. This was beyond not acceptable.. Will never do business here again!!!!!!!!

I had to rent a car for a couple of days while my husband was in UAB. Chad is a very nice and polite and extremely helpful employee at the Colonnade Parkway location. We live out of state but if we are ever in the Birmingham area again and need to rent a car we will definitely go back to Chad at Avis!!!
They hooked us up with a vehicle right away and had us out the door in no time. Chad took care of us, good service.
