Can not say enough good things about this place. The gentleman there on most days is very detail oriented and takes every step possible to make you feel taken care of. From a COVID standpoint he greets you with hand sanitizer and wears both a mask and face shield. Overall great service and cut.

The barber seemed more intent on completing my haircut in the 20 minute window than doing a good job. Obviously with Covid, I was required to wear a mask. When the barber began the haircut to start the initial cut, he removed the right strap of my mask to get to the area to cut (makes sense). He did not, however, do that on my left and ended up creating a false line. I asked for a mid to high fade while leaving length on top. Although he left length on top, he gave a very low fade that is barely a fade. He was able to trim up my neck and edges but it wasnt the quality cut I was expecting from these reviews. On top of that, he uses a paint brush to wipe off his trimmers, he doesnt seem to have a full set of clippers on hand, limiting him to what he can do. On top of that, he doesnt keep any of his combs or razors in the disinfectant solution. The only thing in that was his single razor for beard and neck shavings but even that was barely tipping into the solution itself, leaving me to question if it was actually sanitary. Would not go back to this place again.

He does a great job. Been going for about a year and a half and never had a bad haircut. Great prices too.He takes his time, but its WELL worth it. Even if you have to wait a little bit, he pays such close attention to detail its worth any wait.

I have been going to Jim for the past 1 year now.I usually have to get those $50 haircuts as my hair is quite thick and difficult to texturize. The owner is a very experienced barber and I am quite glad I found this place. At $16 the haircut is fairly priced.

Great Barber Shop! They do quality work at a reasonable price. My new barber shop of choice, and I live in Alexandria.

When I arrived in Bethesda around 2011, I tried a few different places to get my hair cut (affordably - NIH internships dont pay too well). I ended up settling on Jims at $16 each visit. There was almost always a short wait and two barbers. Over the last year or so, Ive noticed it was down to just one barber, and there never seemed to be any waiting anymore. My haircut is a fairly simple one, but nonetheless, Ive noticed that the quality of the cuts as Jims has fallen. Sometimes the cut would be perfect, but more often than not Id have some uneven areas, or I didnt feel like I was getting what I was asking for. There were 2-3 times in a row where I felt like I was getting the Macklemore Treatment where the sides are cut, but the top was hardly trimmed. I usually would mention it after the cut and wed go shorter, but it was always very time consuming. I never said anything during the cut because they always cut your hair with you facing away from the mirror there, looking out the window, then spin you around to see the finished product at the end.Lastly, and this is the thing that made me finally write the review, the buzzer that they use has a bent tooth on it. I swear Ive mentioned it the last 4 times I went, but nothings been done about it. Its not noticeable when a length clip is attached, but when the barber would go to clean up my neckline, itd scrape the hell out of me. There would be a very visible bright red welt line wherever that one tooth would scrape over. Each time I mentioned it, it was brushed off as a non-issue. The last time I was told some people have sensitive skin. Funny how my skin isnt sensitive at any other place.. Also, last time (which happened to be the worst) he splashed some aftershave on the scrapes. It burned, and if shaving has taught me anything, the more you cut, the more aftershave burns. Jims, do yourself a favor and replace that clipper. While Jims is fine for a $16 cut, they arent reliable enough for any important events. I dont want to advocate any other barbers on a review for this establishment, but I finally went exploring and tried a new place today that happened to be a much more pleasant experience. Unfortunately, I think Jims has lost my business for now.PS: Cash only here.
