All of my concerns were prioritized from day one with straightforward and honest answers and my paperwork was explained thoroughly. It really made the entire process pain free and very reassuring.  I have been very impressed with the professional service and responsiveness of the team. I really had a great experience with them. Couldn’t recommend them more! I really do appreciate the quality and work ethic they bring in every area especially Anna.This is the first time I have ever had a place of my own and I can tell you this is the best place I have ever lived.  Anna was extremely informative and knowledgeable about everything and helpful during the entire process of moving in. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. She is on top of things and makes sure her tenants needs are met. She walked me through every step along the way and Anna made me feel like I was her number one customer no matter what I asked or inquired about. She is so caring individual and has great interpersonal skills. We do communicate very well. Overall they all went beyond my expectations!

We have been in our new home for a couple of weeks and absolutely love it. Anna and the entire Avalon staff have been very kind, responsive, and extremely helpful. Yes, you can hear the train, but I honestly got used to it after just a couple of days. Our apartment is spacious and bright and the building is well maintained.

The experience living at AvalonBay in Berkeley has been great - particularly due to the staff. Dustin and Sam have been excellent. They’ve been available whenever needed, very quick to respond, and true professionals on the job. The rent here is expensive, so standards are high, and the maintenance crew has exceeded expectations.

I lived at Avalon Berkeley for 3+ years and i really felt so at home. I’m a person who finds it hard to adapt to new things, especially living situations. Everyone who lives and works at Avalon really respect one another and everyone is so friendly. One thing I loved was that it is super dog friendly and they even have a dog wash downstairs to wash your furry friends. Anna, Dustin and Sam are always so warm and welcoming. Thank you to the staff at Avalon for managing the place so well!!! It’s such a convenient location to do a little shopping on 4th, run by the Marina and I80 is less than 5 mins away. It’s easy to get on and off the freeway !! Loved loved loved living at Avalon. Almost didn’t want to even buy a house because I love Avalon so much!!

Living at Avalon Berkeley has been a great experience thanks to Anna and the rest of the team. The staff is very friendly, responsive, and helpful. I remember when I was trying to move a couch into my apartment, one of the Avalon staff members saw I was struggling and immediately offered to help even though he was in the middle of another task.The location is also nice with easy access to 4th street shops, the marina, the freeway. I would highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I moved in late October. We love the place! The Berkeley Avalon crew are fantastic. If we have a maintenance request Dustin and Sam get it done in a very timely manner. Anna is also wonderful. When we have questions about the apartment we can always go to her. Everyone one is super friendly and we love living here.

5+ stars for Anna and the Avalon team. Anna has been a huge help with my move—she even accommodated my hectic schedule which was very much appreciated. She’s always cheerful and ready to help. Also, the maintenance team is the best! Can’t thank them enough for their swift response and fix whenever something is down.They’re really good at what they do, and make my life so much easier!

Professional and expert customer service and office staff members. Always helpful and above and beyond. As an example, Dustin totally helped me out outside usual hours when my rental key went down the trash chute. The area around the building wasn’t my cup of tea, but the Avalon personnel, as I’ve experienced in the past, are top notch. Thank you.

I currently dont live at Avalon. I am hoping to live there in the future. I am writing this review because I received such friendly and helpful information when requesting information. My communications were with Anna and she responded right away and actually provided me with additional information that might have been in follow-up questions. People who do live there have written great reviews and its easy to see why when staff are so helpful. Looks like a great complex in a superb location, too.

Weve lived here for two months now and everything I imagined before we moved has turned into a better experience. We’re particularly happy to have Anna and Dustin’s presence around. Very professional, friendly and always eager to assist! Even if it’s an after work hour that we needed anything, they never hesitated to help us. Im really grateful to have met you guys!Another point, my biggest concern before we moved was the train noise, especially after reading a few comments here and Yelp. So we chose a far side apartment from the rail track since I’m a very light sleeper person, I can wake up on any noise, yet I’ve never waken up by the train yet. The building is super new, and of course, was built accordingly. For example, we had a small issue with our sliding door (which Dustin assisted to get it fixed with a snap!), and I saw while we’re fixing it that they indeed used incredibly strong and tick material on the glass and door itself for sound proofing. You can see the same intention on the walls as well. u2028Ive never even felt a disturbing vibration or a serious problem about the tracks so far.So my family’s experience at Avalon Berkeley has been very positive. It was our favorite one out of 10-15 places we looked at and Im VERY happy to have chosen it so far!

I would not suggest this apartment to anyone. My boyfriend lives here and has had a terrible experience. The train is incredibly loud and makes working from home during a pandemic nearly impossible. We have to keep the windows closed to cover up the sound from the train (which you can still loudly hear) but the sun causes the apartment to heat up to 80 degrees and there is no AC in the building. I believe the unit is extremely overpriced- you can find other Avalons in the city at a similar price with a better experience.

We have lived in Avalon Berkeley for 4 years. All the staff has always try to accommodate all our request and solve our problems promptly. I want to thank Ana at the leasing office for always make us feel at home, Alyssa for helping us move out. I want to thank Jeffrey. And thank Sam for fixing our fridge super fast. I have been living here for 6 months and really enjoys my stay. Several highlights1. Solid & Modern construction. Each unit has really good privacy. I never hear from my neighbour. Also the modern construction provides lots of storage space, big living room, and good sunlight.2. Very good management. All my requests got taken care of immediately. Holy and David are *objectively* amazing! I need to say I absolutely like the package service. The management can put the package in my apartment in my absence.3. Rooftop BBQ place is real hit! We have hosted so many lunch/dinner there. You can reserve one table (other tables are first come first serve).4. It is right next to Aquatic Park/Berkeley Marina. Excellent for people who run or needs to walk dogs regulars.5. The gym is brand new and never gets too busy! All the treadmills have TV on them.

Service is always fast, sometimes same day, and incredibly friendly .Dustin came by and fixed two wear and tear issues and also rested them several times after.Definitely recommend if youre looking for a place in Berkeley .Will update review with more details as time passes ⏳

A member of my family suffers from multiple rare diseases that contribute to invisible disabilities. This has presented an enormous challenge finding housing. Anna Coscolluela has provided invaluable help and support. After touring over six apartment complexes in the Berkeley area, no one offered more assistance and genuine compassion than Anna. She demonstrated a complete willingness to work with us; listening to our needs and concerns. No question went unanswered. She was forever patient and interested in understanding what would best serve our needs. It is wonderful to know that there is such a caring and compassionate person on the premise.The apartment complex itself is modern, beautifully maintained and well run. Jeff, from the maintenance department has been super responsive. I would highly recommend this Avalon property to anyone looking to live in the Bay Area.

Anna and Jeff are the best this apartment complex has to offer. Our fridge was making unusual noises. Jeff tried to fix it immediately. When it began making noises again, he quickly offered to replace the fridge with a new appliance. A couple of days later we got a new fridge.A few days ago we accidentally broke our stove. We told Jeff and the following day we had a new one installed.They are both extremely very professional, helpful and kind.Again, the best this Avalon has to offer.

We love our home! Avalon is a beautiful place to live, near amazing shops, and right by the marina. We couldnt be happier with it. The staff is kind and supportive, and our dog is happy here also. I would recommend it to anyone.

We absolutely loved our year at the Avalon. My wife walked into the the first apartment she was shown and fell in love with the big open space, floor to ceiling windows, and industrial views. We were coming from a three bedroom Edwardian in San Francisco, so it was a pretty big change for us, but the place always felt like it was just the right size, and the ample closet space was one of the standout features as we shopped around. The appliances were also higher quality than in any of the other rentals we looked at it. The rooftop patio is a phenomenal space for stargazing, people watching, and cozy firelit nights — we went up there a lot and often had the whole thing to ourselves.One of our big concerns with apartment building living was neighbor noise, but the units are very well built and it was never a serious problem. The trains, on the other hand, are epic, and once we made peace with them actually became something we miss about the place, but as youll see in other reviews, they arent for everyone.The best feature of all is the Avalon Berkeley team. We werent sure what we would think of living in an Avalon space, but the friendliness of the Berkeley staff and the convenience of Avalons infrastructure really felt like the best of both worlds in most ways. Jeff, Anna, Sam, and James are so committed to making the place feel like home, and it makes such a big difference. Jeff is great to talk to, fast to fix anything that breaks, and is a constant reassuring presence in the building. Anna is also great to talk to, always seemed genuinely happy to see us and engaged in our lives, and never seemed to mind that we were constantly getting urgent packages. Astonishingly, despite us having moved out more than six months ago, Anna and Jeff still get in touch with us whenever important mail gets delivered to us there so we can come by and pick it up, which has saved our bacon more than once. That kind of genuine human concern is all too rare in the housing business, and its what made our time there so great. Thank you all!

Pros:Jeff is the best super you could ever want in a building. Everything fixed super quick and just a great guy... Saw me on his day off trying to jump start my car and he dropped everything to help out.Hands down the best view of the bay possible. Any closer to the water and youd be in the marina. Roof deck is a great place to hang out (but terrible to live under because they didnt bother to install sound insulation)Fourth St shops are just close enough to always have something to do just a short walk away, but far enough you arent swarmed by crowds.Cons:The front office closes early or doesnt open with little to no advance notice quite often. Not a big deal except UPS/FedEx normally only drops off packages there so you cant pick up things you need or its just not delivered in the first place.A good portion of the building is Cal undergrads who have never lived independently before - garbage just thrown on the trash room floor, cigarette and pot smoke are regular happenings in my hall and my outdoor space normally has cigarette butts that are thrown down from the roof. Doors propped open at the front to let friends in, there have been numerous break ins.The train. Its a 24 hour freight and passenger line. You dont get used to it, dont believe the sales team. You just learn to choose between being able to open your windows or being able to sleep.All in all we are very happy with the building, but know what it is and know what it isnt.

Weve moved in last month and so far, Ive had a great experience at Avalon Berkeley! The Avalon staff have been pleasant, responsive and attentive to our needs every step of the way! The apt complex is next to the marina, the highway, 4th street shops, and within walking or bike-able distance to most restaurants and downtown Berkeley. We have 2 dogs and they have places to walk and potty within a few footsteps from the complex. The pet salon is awesome and available for use anytime! The rooftop has 2 grills (one open for large party reservation) and a gorgeous view!

I have lived here over 3 years and the staff has always been excellent. Most recently I accidentally threw away a diamond earring and the head of maintenance, Dustin, went through the garbage and found my earring!!!!! Unbelievable, I wish I could give them 100 stars. Thank you avalon for hiring such amazing people.

My wife and I have been living here for 5 months and we love it! Great location within walking distance to the shops of 4th Street, the Berkeley Aquatic Center and the Berkeley Marina. The amenities live up to the Avalon name and the staff (Holly, James, David and friends) ROCK!

My experience living here at Avalon Berkeley has been great! I relocated from the MidWest a few months back and the place was exactly what I was looking for: wood floors, dishwasher, in-unit washer/dryer, open floor plan, pet service salon, amazing views of the Bay on the rooftop, not to mention the outstanding and friendly staff. Super happy with my decision to live here. Top notch building with all the amenities!

These apartments are definitely high quality and I would know considering I practice architecture. The best part about these apartments is that they allow big dogs, which is so hard to find in the bay area. It is in a great location: in walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and the coast/marina! In addition, the rooftop patio overlooks the bay so there is a spectacular view. The complex is very secure so no need to worry about that. I also happen to live next door the maintenance guy who is very friendly and loves dogs! The only down side is being right next to the Amtrak, which isnt bad until the conductor honks their horn and they usually do.

On Sunday, I reported that both of our showers were draining slowly. On Monday, Jeff came and fixed both of them within 10-15 minutes. Very satisfied with his service. (This was an earlier review.)Yesterday, I noticed a loud noise coming from the refrigerator and reported it. This morning, Jeff came and fixed it. I truly appreciate the quick response and resolution of the problem. Very satisfied again. (2nd review)Today, a smoke detector started making a loud noise and my dog started barking. I logged a service request. I had a lot of work to do and was concerned that I wouldnt be able to concentrate. Within 30 minutes, Jeff came to replace the batteries in all the smoke detectors in the apartment. I was so appreciative not to have to wait too long. (3rd review)

12 months later, Im updating my review. Let me first start by saying the staff has been very good to us for the most part. Dave is a saint and Holly has been very open and honest with most of my tenure at Avalon Berkeley.Safety:That being said, there have been a few things that have occurred over the past year. First, our apartment was broken into along with another apartment downstairs. The burglars took $10k worth of stuff. The building thinks the burglars snuck into the garage downstairs (where there is no entry camera and the doors stay open forever) and used the garage staircase (which also has no cameras) to get to the apartment. Luckily, the burglars were walked into downstairs and dropped (and damaged) almost all of our stuff. Hesitantly, the building called an overnight security guard downstairs for the night (there is normally no security in the building at all). Our door was temporarily fixed the next day with an added handle lock with the promise that the entire door would be replaced (the door replacement never happened). We decided to wait out the end of the lease to see if the building would make everything right (the other apartment tenants that were burglarized moved out immediately since they had a small child and actually walked in on the burglars with their child). Other apartments had been burglarized previously...even an attempt on our floor a few months prior. Additionally, cars had been vandalized in our garage in 2015. The build has a very real and persistent security problem...given its location next to the freeway, the train tracks (more on this later), and the slow turn of the neighborhood. We no longer felt safe nor felt that the building wanted to take adequate steps to increase the safety of its tenants.Rent + Rent Increases:A few weeks after the burglary, we received a notice on the door with a massive rent increase, as the lease was nearing expiration. That was the nail in the coffin. Eventually, they lowered the rent offering a bit (but not enough), but the damage had been done. Turnover for the apartments is nonstop. 3 of my direct neighbors moved out for varying reasons, with the main being the massive rent increase. Theres a moving truck outside every weekend. Tells you something. Depending on the apartment, you have some nice views, but Ive lived in nicer & safer places with more amenities for way lessTrain Noise:In my previous review, we thought we had gotten used to the train noise. That ended QUICKLY! No matter where youre at in this building, youll hear and feel trains every 20-40 minutes 24 hours a day. Additionally, youll hear the dings of crossing guard nonstop as well. This building is NEXT to the tracks...NOT NEAR the tracks. The trains range from Amtrak commuter trains to freight and must BLAST their horns multiple times each time they approach the building. Theres actually an article written about the neighborhoods history of trying to silence the trains (wont happen for a few years at least). Im an extremely hard sleeper and didnt realize I wasnt sleeping a full night until I moved to a quieter location. You wont realize how bad this affects you until you sleep somewhere else for the night. As someone else mentioned below, youll also have to close your windows and pause movies/songs/shows as the trains pass. The commuter train length lasts just a minute or so, while the longer freight trains can last for 5-10 minutes.Final Thoughts:I really thought that this was going to be a place Id live for a while. This ended up turning into a complete nightmare. This place didnt turn out to be safe, nor did I get used to the sound of the train. Well miss the people.Pros:+Views+Quick access to 4th street, Oakland, Downtown Berkeley, and San Francisco (outside of rush hours)Cons:-Safety (Home break-ins, car break-ins, no on-sight security, minimal security cameras)-Nonstop 24 train horns, noise, and rumble-Rent prices (they dont match the amenities offered)-Limited Amenities-Massive rent increases-They will assume you wont re-lease

I lived in Avalon Berkeley for two years, I love this place so much and I really considered it as my home, everything is so new and organized, and all the staffs are so nice especially Anna, she is very nice and professional, always get things done very quickly.

Awful management (Anna and James, specifically), unsafe apartment complex that they refuse to invest in proper security for (lots of theft and violence even within the apartment complex), trains that come and honk constantly (all hours of the night, seeming to delight in loud honking) AND exorbitant prices . Avoid at all costs. We are leaving as soon as our lease is up. No one stays longer than one lease term here that Ive met and some of our favorite neighbors have already moved out halfway through their leases. Absolutely horrific experience here all around.

Loving this play too much, at this point the only reason why I would move is because I would actually be buying a property in Berkeley, CA.

Wow! Starting with my first inquiry, and following through into today, I have been amazed by a daily blend of consistent friendliness, courteousness and professionalism, all while maintaining a flowing and enthusiastic environment. Av Berk tenants are blessed to have an onsite team that is responsive w/o delay to every question or concern one may have. The Property Manager always greets attentivally and with a smile. Furthermore her commitments to tenants are completed w/o fail and in a 5☆ time frame. Onsite maintenance is polished by an eager intelligent go to guy that arrives, or is seen onsite, ready to solve small or large issues. He is sure to have you smiling even through the clearing of the worst clog as well as any issue. This combo and their team are what create the comfort, upscale, layed back, clean and friendly energy that allows one to enjoy some of the best views the bay area has to offer. Fine construction stops the normal soumds you hear living in a condo type setting. Large windows allow light and great visual freedom. The pleasant climate control and ventilation is easy on those w allergies and last and surely not least 24hr rooftop access to the beauty of the bay. It is all these combined that makes the spirit of Avalon Berkeley come to life and feel like home.

Tried to check out the leasing office at 5:45pm on Thursday and couldnt even get in even though it says they dont close until 6:30pm. Horrible first impression.
