Providers are very good and are the only reason for any stars. Most unhelpful office staff of any psychiatric clinic in Austin. Have yet to have a good experience with them. If you owe any balance, the office staff won’t notify you, but they will refuse to schedule you a follow up until you pay it off, and also try to refuse to refill your meds until you have said follow up. They won’t notify you if you’re due for a follow up, and their appointment reminders don’t even have the time of your appointment on it. But then they’ll charge you $150 for missing it. Go literally anywhere else. Other clinics have the customer service to call patients who are overdue for follow ups, notify them of balances and create payment plans, and will refill your meds as long as you have a follow up scheduled. You do not have to settle for their extremely low level of customer care. Yes it’s the patient’s responsibility to remember, but I promise you can find a clinic that will actually work with you and help coordinate your care. Go here if you’re okay with 0 support.

“Dr.” Holcomb and his staff need to take the Hippocratic oath again. This office functions more like a payday loan business than a medical provider, charging for refills between appointments and refusing to see patients with a balance on their accounts—even after making good faith efforts to become solvent. They represent everything that is wrong with the mental health and medical care industry in the U.S. today. Find another provider.

I’ve been seeing Megan for about 2 years now, and have made such wonderful progress in this time. The office staff has always been friendly, and my emails have always been answered promptly. I had to miss an appointment last minute and faced a fee, but considering the value of the doctors’ time, I consider this fair.I hope clients begin to understand the demands on the staff, and the policies they utilize to streamline services.

Loved my psychiatrist, but he moved offices and I followed him. I was a patient here for two years and the front office staff treated me like garbage. Every time I needed a prescription refill, it was a fight. For someone that already struggles with mental illness, the customer service received here is awful. I got treated like a criminal when I asked for refills too early (before a weekend or holiday, otherwise I’d run out of medication) or I was ignored. I don’t recommend this place to anyone at all. But I’m glad I was able to connect with a good psychiatrist. So 2 stars for that. Otherwise it would be 1 Star.

Very unprofessional. They make sure to have your CC beforehand in case you no-show, I get that. But sometimes life happens and there was a bad traffic-jam of sorts on the way there. I called them 30 min before, nobody answers, I left a message, nobody calls back, I called over 7-8 times to let them know there was a wreck and if I should come or not. Bout an hour and a half later they sent me a text? Saying since I missed my first appt they will not see me now? What a joke, and just shows the lack of care for patients. All about money. I gave them respect by calling several times to inform them. Least the could hv done was call back and say what happened? But they sure processed my Credit Card quickly. Money, money- no caring.

Recently had an appointment with NP Prokop. I was relieved to find somebody I could feel comfortable explaining my situation to honestly and straightforward. There are late/cancellation fees depending on when you show up/cancel, but they are a smaller office. Moreover, getting an appointment as a new patient couldnt have been easier. I was scheduled within a week as well. Great experience.

The provider we saw (Jonathan Prokop) was good (not excellent) in the context of our face-to-face appointments. My husband was the patient in this case, and we worked with this office for a several months. The office staff overshadows any benefit of working with the provider. They are systemically disorganized, difficult to reach, do not respond to calls in a timely way, and lack basic customer service skills (to say the lease, truly a couple of the office employees are bafflingly rude/disrespectful). They called me attempting to reach my husband (who had called four days previously). I am authorized to speak with them about appointments, etc. I said Your office is very challenging to work with.... she cut me off and the employee quickly said, Oh, well sorry, have him call us, bye and hung up the phone. We will not be working with them going forward.

These people are useless. If you want to make an appointment, forget it. They dont return calls, and you cant fill out a new patient inquiry on their website without certain information that isnt even given to you. Save yourself the time and hassle and go where they actually want to assist you.Upon letting them know I was unable to reach out to them via their highly important new patient inquiry form. This is the smart a$$ reply I received from Erica Miller,Ok, unfortunately our providers do require that form. Because it is our office policy I cannot schedule a new patient appointment without it. Anywhere info is required that you do not have you can mark n/a. Im sorry if you do not feel like our office procedures are convenient. Thank you!Wow, I think if she had not made the last comment about their office procedures being an inconvenience to me..her reply might not have sounded so rude.

Beware, Beware, Beware! If you sign up for Dr. Holcomb’s group therapy and you have to miss due to a conflict, even if you inform them, they will charge you $80 to “save your spot”, no exceptions. I’m about to fight with their billing department over this, and have dropped out of his group therapy due to this totally and utttlerly unreasonable policy. You can definitely find equivalent mental health services elsewhere, with policies that take life circumstances into consideration, as this practice does. Heck, an individual therapy session costs less out of pocket than what these folks have charged me to save my spot on the couch, for missing 1 session after 3 months of perfect attendance, and I informed them beforehand as well. Sounds like patient gouging to me.The irony is my camping trip which caused me to have to skip the groups therapy this week was more beneficial to my mental health than probably 1 year of his groups therapy sessions. Dr. Holcomb talks about the importance of reducing anxiety and anger in his group therapy sessions. Gouging the patient like this for 1 missed session with advanced notice is anger and anxiety producing no doubt about that.

Im very disappointed and surprised at the level of unprofessionalism and disrespectful behavior that I was treated with by the receptionist AND Dr. Holcomb. Ive never been rude or hostile to anyone, especially my doctors. I called this afternoon to get my medication refilled at the right pharmacy and the receptionist all the sudden started screaming at me then hung up. I called back and Dr Holcomb accused me of yelling and being rude then refused to let me even say a word. When I tried to speak he hung up on me and had my doctor refuse to refill my medicine. I feel like Im in the movie Anger Management.I was notified that my dad was having a heart attack so I went straight from vacation in Maryland. I left a voice message on the 30th of August at 1:17pm requesting my refill to be picked up at a location in Conroe. The next time I called was on Tuesday at 12:01 pm after the pharmacist in Conroe told me my prescription was filled in Austin. I called again on Thursday at 9:31 am, no answer, 1:42pm, no answer, then at 4:52pm I was told by the receptionist that she had reminded Zach, my doctor, multiple times to change the location and she will remind him again. I told her that the pharmacy is open all night so that was ok. I went to the pharmacy after my dad got out of emergency heart surgery on Friday September 6th and the prescription is still sitting on a shelf in Austin. I will be filling a formal complaint with the board.

I have been with Austin Family Mental Health for about a year now & I have to say it has been a WONDERFUL experience. As soon as you step in the door and approach the window, you are greeted by a group of wonderful receptionists who are willing to help you (special THANKS to a Marine Veteran). The providers here are also exceptional. My loved one sees Martha Mefford and has loved the care she provides. I see Jonathan Prokop who is easy to talk to & actually listens to you.I know this is not a noble idea if you are in the mental health profession, but I am a Iraq War Veteran, who has been with the VA for the last decade, so it was a pleasant surprise when AFMH went above & beyond to help me.I dont know the situation of the people who left negative reviews, but if you are serious about your mental health, a responsible person, & want to get right, then this is the place to go.

Our son has been in treatment with Dr. Holcomb for about one year. Among the irresponsible issues we have had are Dr. Holcomb being absent six weeks without providing any backup other than call 911 or go to the emergency room. Our son needed help and ended up unnecessarily in the hospital had help been available. Dr. Holcomb does not return calls or speak to patients on the phone. He only offers group therapy and monthly medical visits. We do not recommend him.

Dr. Holcomb is AMAZING!! The office is not too BRIGHT or neon at all!!! Very pretty colors of paint that I find calming, along with the beautiful artwork. If you want a doctor that has someone on-call you should find a doctor that operates that way. Dr. Holcomb does not. When Dr. Holcomb was out for 6 weeks I was told (when I asked for details) that he almost died due to a hospital error during an outpatient appointment. Im so glad he is great now! Im sure he lost some patients during this time, but what could he do? He might have died.If you are late to see your doctor, then who is being disrespectful? You or the Dr office saying they cant take you late because it will make all of the other appointments for the day late? Respect your doctor and go early or very early always!!! Even if you know where it is, Austin has terrible unforeseen traffic and YOU ALL KNOW THIS!!! Respect your doctor and his patients that he or she has scheduled later in the day!! Mental Health offices HAVE to run as close to on schedule as possible because there are no nurses, PAs, medical assistants, nurse practitioners etc., to entertain you between the doctors or therapists available time. Also, you have to remember that some of Dr. Hs appointments are scheduled for 15 minutes total, like mine frequently are. Knowing this, you have to understand that 12 minutes late means you literally missed your appointment even if it was scheduled for 30 minutes. If he fits you in his other patients would hate him for running late.Ive been going to Dr. Holcomb for 3+ years and Im very happy with him!! Ive been on psychotropic medication for about 20 years and am a licensed, masters level, mental health professional. I went to an amazing GURU Dr. 2 hours from Philladelphia, when I lived in Philly (totally worth the drive). I went to him for 15 years and it was an AMAZING experience - to always be medicated perfectly!! So, Im comparing my true guru Dr. to Dr. Holcomb. My guru was better but Holcomb is not far behind and much younger so he could catch up with my guru.It just so happens that Effexor works great for me along with other things he prescribes me. The reality is that Effexor IS THE BEST and most likely to work. Im sure if you were willing to try the medications he wants you to, for as long as he wants you to, since the kind of anti-depressants/anti-anxieties we are talking about take time (and increases and more time), to know how it is going to really make you feel..... that he would use other medications if the ones he was prescribing you really arent been working! He has worked with me on my Rxs but only after I give what he thinks is best, a full blown try. That is called GOOD practice!!! He is the Doctor! He is the expert! He doesnt want a bunch of addicts as his patients and thank God for that!!!! Yes he is careful!! Isnt that what you want when someone is messing with your brain chemistry? It certainly is for me. If he says he wont prescribe you something, I promise he will give you a good reason if you ask. I certainly ask for details every time he says something I dont understand. He is a very reasonable man!The sign that says be nice or leave (not sure what it says exactly), I take as a joke and think its very funny!! Im shocked someone took it personally!!At the same time, if someone hostile comes in to their waiting room, Im happy if they feel comfortable removing them, so I dont have to deal with them. I have Panic Disorder from my mothers side of the family and PTSD from abuse from my ex. Hostile and angry people DO TRIGGER my mental health problems as Im sure it triggers other people with mental health issues as well. I have no idea what they really mean by this sign but if you are not a hostile person, I promise they are not referring to you!!!! They do have funny things around the office which is why I thought it was a joke. The waiting room is beautiful and comfortable and I do love the dog(s) wandering around the office!! Perfect therapy dogs!!

50% of the time Lori Fox, APN cancels my sisters appointments. My sister also asked her for medical documentation that she urgently needs for school and she refused to give her one. She wants her to do either an in-patient or out-patient program first before she gives it to me. She urgently needs that for school because her studies has been affected by her situation. She gave her the Service for Student with disabilities packet for my college which she did not even read. That packet says that she needs a diagnostic report to get the SAS services.

Where do I even start. I am so disappointed by the way I was treated by this office. I felt like I was a burden to be a patient of Austin family mental health. I had only gone two times and I was on my way to my appointment and I live 40 mins away and I got lost so I called to let them know hey I might be a few minutes late my gps took me the wrong way. They said if I was even one minute past ten minutes late they will not see me so I said ok Ill be there in 12 mins by my gps. They said no sorry I begged to get a different appointment later that day she said no we dont do same day reschedules. And she was so rude and had no compassion that I was trying so hard to make it there. So Ill go somewhere where Ill be treated which normal proper respect
