I just started training there awhile ago and the owner is nice, the workouts are good, and you can get in shape really quickly
Richie is very friendly and welcoming, I came in while passing through austin and it had such a community feel to it I would join in a heartbeat if I were staying in the area. Thanks richie!
I was in Austin for a couple of weeks for work and Richard gave me a good price to train here while visiting. Great atmosphere, welcoming people, and overall just an awesome experience. I highly recommend this gym to those trying to get in shape and those who take boxing seriously. It was a true boxing gym that exceeded all my expectations and a great two weeks with these guys. Ill miss it.
This is a great boxing gym. The vibe is positive! The business owner Richard Lord is a great guy. I highly recommend this boxing gym.
Hands down the best gym in Austin, from people just trying too get into shape to pros. Richard is definitely the best around for a reason.
Been a loyal patton for 10 years. Love this place.
I was a good fighter at one time couldve been the champ. If I had eazy fight like Floyd Mayweather Jr. Im not the champ. But I am a great father to my girl she isnt schedule to spend time in prison.
Best boxing gym in the universe!
In reply to Haoqing Gengs review:This person wrote a negative review though admittedly has never attended.I train here. I am a woman. I wear makeup. I feel equally treated. There are, in fact, articles printed and proudly framed on the walls of the gym on the topic of the women boxers who train here.If the reviewer had merely stepped inside, they wouldnt have to request to be corrected if wrong. Theyd know.
My son trained at Richard Lords for a few years, a while back. He turned out to be aGreat southpaw. Im not bragging becausehes my son, but, honestly, he wouldnt havethe skills that he has today, if Richard LordsGym didnt exist. If Richard happens to readthis, a million thanks. Unfortunately, we moved out of Austin. I really believe that Richard wouldve had another PRIZE FIGHTER.Everyone there, were very profession, according to John. Thanks again, Frank Zapata, ( Johns dad )
Great gym, boxing and overall physical conditioning. Good coaching and a place a kid can learn some self defense skills.
I cant see myself paying $75 a month for this gym. The setup is really good, it has a good amount of punching bags, uppercut/hook bags, Im pretty sure I saw double end bags and speed bags but cant remember. Theres two boxing rings, some workout equipment and the back is an open lot where they kinda have crossfit equipment. I think theres battle ropes (not 100% sure), and I know they have a big tire sledgehammer, and a few other things. My problem with the price was that I just didnt see the value. For $75, I expect to receive some kind of training or something. Maybe a fitness class? I know its supposed to be a real gym and not like a CKO fitness kickboxing style gym but this gym kinda seems like its just $75 to use the gym . There was a trainer in there who said she never actually boxed. There was very little interaction with others at this gym. If it was $35-$50 for this experience, I would give it 5 stars because it is a cool gym but I dont feel like this would be a good gym to actually learn anything or self defense for $75 a month. Im sure theyll teach you if you pay for one on one sessions. Ive been too much much much cheaper boxing gyms. Go take a martial arts class instead where people will interact with you, other students with higher belts will help you and teach you, you practice drills, you spar, etc. This gym had none of those. Most people seemed friendly and there were some meatheads but the atmosphere was alright overall. Its also not in the best neighborhood so they really should relax with those prices.
My dad John Harvey told me that Richard lord taught him how to fight
I hate writing bad reviews but I couldnt get past how Richard treated my 14 year old son in front of everyone in his class. My son had a hard time doing his exercises and Richard repeatedly embarrassed and singled him out the whole session. It was my son and adults and he told him why cant you do the exercises, everyone else can do them. My son replied I am not everyone else. He continued to keep stating he can do the fast pace hard exercises because everyone else can. I felt it would of been better if he understood everyone learns different and just took notes. He insisted I leave or wait outside in the car because my son needs space. I expressed to him my son has a very hard time with stuff and he didnt take that in consideration, instead he called him out throughout the whole time. When I addressed my concerns and said my son is different he replied I see he is different. I was meaning he is a kid not one of his adult students. It would be more helpful if he learned his students and worked with beginners and not expect them to come in and just pick up his teaching and not put them down. I paid this guy to humiliate my son in front of a group instead of empowering him.
Best gym in the city
Love this gym best place to learn boxing
Watch where you park or the fatass teacher will come b**** you out. Even if its your first day, Richard seemed like a nice guy though.Probably wont come back since they have someone treating customers like that. what a shame.
Great old school gym with all you need and Richard is the coolest
Pure boxing gym with all aspects of combative training . From amateur to pro, with a fun environment for familys. The essence of the gym is the expertise of training . Great workout and skill level at a reasonable price . Take a chance, Columbus did.
