Went to them when my harddrive failed abruptly, and they were able to get to my drive and work on recovering the data pretty quickly. Tom was very good about calling me with progress reports and questions, and helped me understand what the pros and cons of the various options were at each step of the process. They recovered the vast majority of my data with very little inconvenience to me, and I was very happy with the end results, and the customer service during the recovery. My only comment, which is not a critique as much as it is a note for future customers, is that the check I paid them in mid May did not get cashed until late September, which was pretty inconvenient for my budgeting. Again, nothing wrong with that as a business practice per-say, but it did surprise me, so make a note to keep track of when the check cashes if you have a budget that fluctuates, so that you dont get surprised as well. But overall, excellent experience, I absolutely will use them again if my harddrive has another disaster.

I dropped off an 80G external hardware drive that had been dropped while running, never a good thing. it would only click when connected to a Windows machine. Most, but not all files had been backed up, so I asked Tom to focus on only a two directories. He also provided a full directory listing, in case I had forgotten something. We talked several times, and I always felt he was trying to achieve the best outcome for me. And he did, recovering from a damaged drive (all but 70 files from nearly 3200 images, photos that were 14 years old and I thought lost forever. Tom did not have break open the drive and swap out the platter, so the cost was reasonable. A great little business and a real asset to the Austin community.

Tom repaired a thumb drive that no one else was able to and it was delicately repaired and a short cable installed on it so the thumb drive didnt have to be touched when inserted into the USB drive. It worked and we were able to retrieve some treasured family photos and videos. Tom was great to work with and I would highly recommend him for the services he provides.

One of my hard drives (G drive mobile) stopped showing up on my computer and while I always have multiple backups of my files (I am a wedding photographer), I did not back up one folder that I worked on in Lightroom that I still needed to share with the client. Got a SSD drive as a gift so I started using it to save work on a project. (Figuring SSDs were super safe...no moving parts!) Well, some mystery liquid got spilled on it (you could see the remnants of the stain ring on top of the drive.) And so there goes 200 hours worth of work down the toilet...Checked around and started reading reviews about Tom and IT Data Recovery. What I like about this service is that Tom doesnt get paid unless they can recover the data (or at least a large portion of it.) I would have expected some sort of Eval Fee to pay for his time to at lest open up the drive and diagnose the problem. But not here!Beforehand, Tom will tell you a best case scenario price. Then as he opens up the drive and sees the damage, will (if necessary) give an increased best case price considering the parts and labor to fix the problem. If that price is not worth the data thats stored on the drive, you can say No Thanks! and walk away.For me, I had the 200 hours worth of work, but then also realized I had moved some pics and movies off my home computer onto the SSD (again thinking it was safe.) So the price made sense for me and Tom was able to get 100% of the data back. (Tom even included a picture of the damaged chips.)One last thing about the experience - When Tom called to say the SSD was ready, we ended up talking about 20 minutes about data storage. He gave his pros/cons about Hard Drives, SSDs, Cloud Services. Explained how they work, the differences, vendor preferences, etc. It was very enlightening and helpful. Tom couldve just been short with me, but he took the time to talk shop.So if you have a drive that got some liquid damage inside, let Tom at least look at it. All is not lost!!!

I had a pretty big issue come up. External Hard-drive with a few current projects Im working on got damaged and I wasnt able to make backups. (Interestingly enough I was going to get a backup that same day, but fate wasnt on my side hahaaaaaa)Really needed to get the footage at the very least and IT Data Recovery really saved my bacon there.Some of the files were damaged, but they were able to recover successfully over 99%. The damaged video files just had some glitches in some frames. Very minor and easy to edit/work around.It did cost a bit but it was worth it. They also threw in a quick sweep and recovery of the rest of the hard-drive I wasnt prioritizing getting as much. It wouldve cost me a lot more to do so, but they did it for free. So a nice bonus to getting the footage I really needed.Super grateful and happy with their work. Their employees were kind and helpful. I had such a great experience with IT Data Recovery. Tom is phenomenal. I had an internal hard drive from an old Mac Pro tower go bad. My husband had months of work on it that he hadnt backed up yet. We dropped off the drive to Tom right away. He gave us daily updates and educated us on exactly what was going on with it. My drive had many bad and broken sectors. We were bracing ourselves for the worst. When he called me with the good news, a huge weight was lifted off our shoulders. They were able to 100% recover and fix our important files! My old iMac was fried during a recent lightening storm, and all data was lost since I didnt have it backed up. I was able to take the old hard drive in to Tom at ITDR to see if he could recover my data. Within a couple of days and for a reasonable price, Tom was able to recover all of my data and transfer it to a portable hard drive, which I used to transfer the recovered data to a new computer.I had a little difficulty in transferring the recovered data to a new computer, but Tom offered additional support to complete the transfer. My new computer is now up and running with all data fully recovered.Throughout the process, Tom was very professional and helpful. His service was excellent. When it comes to your personal media, there is no substitute for a true professional data recovery service. I was one of the unlucky few who had a external hard drive that was damaged pretty bad. IT DR found a way to get it all back to me, atleast %99 of it. I had already given up hope, it seemed bleak. but they found a way. it too about 5 weeks, cost was $1775 (but that much cheaper than other quotes, but almost half), totally worth it!

After the recovery we were able to merge the recovered data back into the existing database and are back to a state as if the failure never occurred. Dropped a hard drive that had crashed on me with a very important file relevant to my research as a graduate student. Im a wedding and lifestyle photographer here in Austin, and at midnight last Sunday, I was moving my iMac and my external hard drive fell from about 3 feet onto the floor while it was powered off. I had a few sessions, some personal photos, but more importantly THREE full, unedited weddings on it that I hadnt backed up yet. I had tried to unclutter my hard drive by moving data to my external drive. Big mistake when it started acting up. I was recovering stuff to a 35 Gb flash drive when everything quit. My most cherished files were Genealogical and Family Tree Maker. Thomas got to work, emailed me a recovered (test sample) FTM file which properly opened the FTM software. He loaded the remaining data a Toshiba 750 Gb portable hard drive which I picked up the next day. I found one file (my 44 Mg FTM file) was corrupted. I emailed him about the problem; he had a CD ready to pickup the next morning in which the file worked properly. I dont want to ever go through this again; Tom will have to speak for himself. What I thought was a complete disaster (years and years of work) was averted by IT Data Recovery. Thanks Thomas, as far as Im concerned you get a 10 on a scale of 3.
