Terrible experience with this company. First of all, the car smelled STRONGLY of cigarette smoke.Next, the man at the check out gate when I drove away made me very uncomfortable and also failed to check the vehicle for damage. Once I left I called to let them know this happened and I had found a small scratch on the back. The call center rep was not helpful at all. I did end up talking to a supervisor and getting that resolved. The man at the counter inside was very friendly but as I was checking out he said “don’t fill up the gas before you bring it back.” I tried asking what he meant and he just said “our rates are cheaper for refill.” I ended up using less than a quarter of a tank since I basically just drove from the airport into the city and back. When returned the car, I realized I had been charged $50 for the fuel refill flat rate. The guy just added this onto my bill without ever explaining the charges or telling me what he meant when I explicitly asked. When I called about this, the rep was again very unhelpful and kept telling me that if I signed the paper it was valid. I suppose I should have been more careful in reviewing my paperwork before signing but since I had prepaid for the rental, I didn’t think much of it.HORRIBLE customer service overall and will definitely never rent with Advantage again. In the end I was charged nearly double of what I originally paid for the rental in extra fees.
Extremely friendly and helpful customer service agent worked to get me into the car class Id reserved even though it didnt show up as being available in her system. Shed seen an SUV come in when she arrived at work and walked me upstairs to make sure I got the car. It was greatly appreciated, as a small SUV was exactly what I needed to transport older relatives. I couldnt have been more satisfied, and Ill rent with them again.
Will not come back or recommend. We were asked if we’d like to have insurance - chose the basic coverage which turned out to be $30 per day on the bill.Had to rush to the airport this morning and the refuel was $9 per gallon. We’ve used many other agencies, none of which has fees this outrageous. All these were on top of 40 min wait at the counter when picking up the car as no vehicle was available.
While I havent had great experiences at other Advantage locations (Denver, San Francisco), since Austin airport is so small, the pickup location is with all the others. So in this case, theres no advantage in paying more. I got a very good car for a very good price. All good!
I had a brief business trip in Austin and booked Advantage through Expedia. nothing fancy, just a good car in good shape at a great rate, easy check in and easy check out. Smooth as silk. On whirlwind trips youre especially grateful for hassle-free experiences such as this.
Im not sure where the 1 star reviews are coming from, but I had a great experience with this car rental company. I got there and got my car quickly after dealing with paperwork, and the car was clean inside and out. Returning the car was easy and the staff was kind and respectable. The deposit was put back into my bank account immediately after returning the car. These guys get a recommendation from me.
Chris at the Austin Airport was absolutely amazing! He was friendly, kind, funny and supportive... thats weird to say but let me explain. I had a really awful day and had rented online with a different company. My own car had broken down and I have a job that I cant possibly call out for (leadership for a summer camp, lots of kids, need I say more?!) When I got to the airport and went to pick up my car the lady at the desk refused to help (I was using a debit card) and though she was very nice my day had just gotten worse. Like a sad puppy I went down the line to find a rental company that would use my card (please take my money! I just needed a car!). This is when I met Chris. He was working with a group of men who didnt speak English and he was patient and kind to them. Instantly I was impressed! When it was my turn I got to the counter and begged that he take my card. He gladly explained that there was an increased deposit (which I was fine with) and helped me find the right vehicle. He also helped me with price matching the reservation I had previously made! He really made my day so much better. The man, though I didnt get his name, who helped me check out my borrowed vehicle was amazing as well! He was kind and funny and answered all of my questions. So, would I recommend this company again? Absolutely, 100%, yes! Obviously they hire the right people and have fantastic prices. Will I use them again? Every time!! Thank you, Chris and thank you to the man who checked my car out!
I wouldn’t even give them one star, if zero was an option. At the rental counter, Jake charged the debit card twice. Before leaving and realizing this (he had us swipe in two terminals) we went back to try and get one of the charges dropped. His response.. “i didn’t do that.” No matter how many times we showed him or mentioned that he had the card swiped twice - he just kept saying it’s not my fault i didn’t do that. The moment i asked for his name was the moment he finally decided to call his supervisor, who had left. He then got off the phone with her to say that when she got back in, she would cancel the one charge, but we had to sit there and wait for her. When we asked when would she be back, Jake replied with “when she gets here.” No matter what we asked he wouldn’t answer a question - finally we realized her number was on the card, so we called her. Turns out that is not what she said at all. Brittany (the supervisor) said that as soon as she got back she would cancel the one charge and it would be gone by midnight and that we did not need to stay there - she also called to the woman at the booth by the cars to let her know what was going on and to get us into an upgraded car because she made it seem like she knows how horrible Jake’s customer service skills are (even prior to this, he couldn’t answer questions about toll roads or gas options - he just pointed at the signs). Brittany promised that she would have one charged dropped and the other discounted ... 48 hours later, nothing. We called the corporate line - Jake must have been trained by them. So we called the bank.. funny thing the bank said all they had to do (and should have done) was called and the charged would have been dropped immediately.I travel about 12 weeks out of the year on vacation, and another 12 for work. My mom was so proud she had booked this trip on her own... going forward we will never use advantage and will make sure every single person we know who is planning to rent a car spends the few dollars extra to use a company with actual customer service.
I rented full size car but they upgraded me to Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. All their vehicles are new and service was quick and very pleasant including pick up and drop off. I provided same input to their survey follow up. I’ve booked with them again this week and will post how the experience is. So far, 5 stars!
The entire process for renting my car went smoothly. The only hitch in the experience was not being aware of the deposit required, but that was not the companys fault since I booked through a third party application and it got buried in the fine print, so I am not impacting the score. The care was amazing and clean and I will be using these guys again if i have rental needs in the future
Great job, was waiting for an other rental car place. Long story short, the other one sucked and never showed up. This place helped right away and beat the other price. They where very nice and respectful. I will highly recommend to using them.
Terrible company! Stay far away! Reserved a car 3 weeks in advance and they didnt have the one I reserved available. They then gave me an upgrade and charged me an extra $40 for their mistake! I called customer service to sort it out and they flat out refused saying that I signed the agreement. Needless to say they dont care about the customer . All they want is your money. I will EVER use this company again. Completely ruined my experience in a great city.
Great experience. The lady who helped us was awesome. She was warm, friendly, and welcoming, and she got us on our way quickly.
I have never had an easier car rental. I emailed to see of I could use debit card, and how much extra down. They got back to me same day so when we got to airport to pick up it was easy and they were so amazing. Only place ill go through for now on
We were not given the opportunity by the individual who took possession of the car back from us to do an inspection. The rental processes were poorly communicated at check in. Josh asked me if I wanted to prepay for the gas I asked him what average gas prices were in Austin, he told me $2.55 per gallon. I drove around Austin, Sunday and all day Monday and didn’t see a single place with gas prices that high. He was dismissive and indifferent while I asked him questions to try and educate myself.
This is my second rental with Advantage and I couldnt be happier. My counter rep was a delight - professional, kept eye contact, and was thorough with his review of optional coverage. Great job!
Austin Texas location rarely has a wait. Staff is fast and effecient, especially in the garage. Kim does a wonderful job.
Resonable price, Good customer service and new van. Transaction very smoothly
Advantage took excellent care of me during my stay. The vehicle was clean and in great condition and the staff, both at the counter and the vehicle checkout booth, were very courteous and professional.
Beware of their toll charges. A $1.37 toll turned into over $34 because of some admission fee and three different kinds of taxes. I try to avoid tolls with all car rentals but advantage has the most outrageous fees by far. The car was not cleaned well, dirty outside, interior was still wet when I first got in and the inside of the windows had bad streaks so I couldnt see well at night. They are a cheaper company for a reason, they charge more other places and dont put much effort into customer satisfaction.
Beside the fact that the rental place is across the street from baggage claim which should be no problem for anyone unless you are handicap as I am. Thankfully I had a very nice person helping me in the airport and he got me to the rental place. Once there the person working the counter was very welcoming and helpful. He even help me with my luggage to the car. Overall it was a great experience. I would recommend renting from this Co.
Buyer beware. No integrity. I rented a car for my father. But they added in full coverage when he picked up the car. The counter acknowledges that he may not have asked for the coverage but stated “he should have read the agreement closer”. They added the collision coverage and the fact that he didn’t see it means they keep money. I will never use this company ever again. No integrity and cannot me trusted.
Rental process was explained very well . Customer service was excellent. There was no confusion. It was seamless. Overall the service was excellent.
Stay Away! Rented through Hotwire. We were up charged over $100 for an EX Toll pass even though our Austin-area tolls amounted to $3.60 in six days. We told Advantage would refund a deposit that turned into a $17/day flat rate charge. We were fools, but you dont have to be. Try other car rental companies at the Austin airport!
Brooke was awesome at the Austin airport. She took care of me even though I showed up early. She explained everything great and did so with a smile on her face and in a timely fashion which was something I normally dont experience with rental car companies. I will definitely use advantage again when I rent a car
Edward was so fantastic! The process was quick and easy and he was friendly and helpful. Thank you Edward! I am an Advantage customer for life.
Check out and check in process was quick and easy. The car I rented was spotless.
If I could give them 0 Stars I would, it has been the worst rental car experience ever. Ive called customer service twice regarding issues Ive had and had minimal response and Ive been hung up on twice. The car I received it smells so bad like smoke that they wrote that on my Pre Vehicle inspection. I would have paid an extra $100 to go with a company that had good customer service and took care of their customers. Do yourself a favor and just pay the extra money.
Worst rental experience ever. We were fine using the vehicle, returned it full of gas, got the all-clear when we dropped it off. Over a week later the $200. deposit was still outstanding on my credit card. I think they hope we won’t notice. I noticed and had to call to get it reimbursed. Can you believe it? Two months later I see a new charge on my credit card from Advantage from that one rental. I called customer service again to see why they keep charging my card. They trumped up a bogus story about toll fees. Over $107. worth? No way. I’ve never had so much trouble with a car rental company. They are scammers! Do NOT give them access to your credit card.
We rented from ez but advantage reps at ABIA handled everything. The car was clean, comfortable, and nice. We ended up accidentally leaving something very important in the car and were immediately contacted by Karen to retrieve it. She even offered to stay late to make sure we got it back. Luis was the awesome fleet manager that found it. Forever grateful!
This company is poorly run and the rental cars are themselves in dangerous condition. I rented a compact from them in December 2018. The check engine light was on, stating it needed an oil change. When I got onto the interstate it was pulling dangerously to the left when I exceeded 40 miles an hour. I was not expecting to drive it much, so I did not return it. Come February I was unexpectedly charged $426 by Advantage with no explanation as to why. After many phone calls I find out I had had a (contestable) camera ticket of $321. They never notified me of this. Advantage then charged me an extra $100 processing fee, in addition to the ticket. When I called the camera violation number they said I could no longer contest the violation as Advantage paid the ticket automatically.I rent cars twice a month for work. This is the worst customer service, cars, and policies I have ever experienced. Do not use this company even if they have a discount occurring. There is a reason there is never a line at their counter.
Excellent experience overall. Great car at a great price. Fast check out and nice employees. I would definitely rent from them again.
I travel for a living and we decided to try Advantage out. The pick up experience was good but returning the vehicle at the Dallas-Love Field location was a complete disaster!! I almost missed my flight simply because I couldn’t find the current location to return the rental. My GPS system gave me 4 different addresses within a 2 mile radius from the airport. The last & farthest location ended up being the right one. Even that location was not well lit or visible. You MUST resolve this issue!
Amazing agent in Austin. Simple and quick process. Great price and vehicle. I rent a lot and was surprised how good this was.
Horrible experience. Guy at the front desk obviously didnt want to be there and was no help at all. Coworker booked a car for me, but somewhere along the line, wires got crossed. I couldnt rent the car without her there per their policy. Cool. I get it. But the guy did nothing, ABSOLUTELY nothing to help remedy the situation or help a potential customer. Will never rent through them again.
This was the most pleasant rental car experience I have ever had. Customer service was great. They were funny and personable and just all around good guys. Thanks for making a stressful trip not seem so stressful. Will definitely use Advantage again.
As an “additional driver” I am required to be at least 21 years of age however at the time of rental I had been 18 and the lady told me to “tell them I lost my license” if they ask for it when I return the car. At first I thought it had simply been a lady trying to help me out but now I feel as if I had been taken advantage of because I was charged an extra $200. The charge had come from being 3 hours late which resulted in a day late charge. The problem is now I’m out of that money and the car had been ILLEGALY rented out under my card. I had not been aware at the time that it was illegal to rent under 21 years of age and was not notified before the transaction had been completed. My security deposit and an additional $25 would have never been taken from my account if I had been properly notified that it was illegal to do such a transaction. I am NOT happy with this service and further more after talking to customer service on the phone I had asked to speak with someone in a higher authority and was repeatedly given an obsolete answer and was never directed to anyone else. After asking the serviceman for his name, I was hung up on. I was also charged an extra $26 for gas when I had put the gas to where we found it in the first place. On top of all this, the car hadn’t even been fully functional as the GPS company contract had expired and was left without a gps in a foreign city. Awful company and service. Never do business as they have ridiculous fees and careless workers
Austin airport Advantage Car Rental was both professional and polite. They replaced the original car with an up grade andEven allowed me to select the car.Kudos to Advantage!
Would of been a 5 star if they hadnt of overcharged. Our reservation was booked for 12pm on a Friday for 5 full days, our flight was bumped up so we arrived at 11pm the Thursday. For convenience we went to ask if we could rent the car a night earlier. (11 hours before our oringal booking) they charged us 60 dollars US for an extra 10 hours. We were not impressed.
Got charged $116.91 for $8.00 in tolls. When asked for a refund, Agent stated no. Im sure this is one way Advantage makes up for there lower rate. Other Rental companies only charge for the cost of the toll. Lesson learned... you get what you pay for. Will never use Advantage again or recommend to friends
Quick pleasant service. No hassle. Didn’t have my car,so upgraded for free. Would definitely rent from Advantage in Austin again
My check in was quick and painless. The price was right. Best of all, someone actually showed me to my car so I didn’t have to go hunting for it.
The vehicle I reserved with the level of coverage I had requested was promptly processed by the counter agent. he did the usual upsell, but that didnt bother me at all.
Caution: we were charged $60.94 two months after renting a car. This fee appeared on our credit card bill with no explanation two months after our trip (and right before Christmas). I called the company and discovered that we had a $6.56 toll fee during our trip. The additional $54.38 was added as a fee by Advantage/E-Z Rent-A-Car. Im not sure why we were charged $60.94, as the bill clearly states $51.56. They probably charged a fee for the fee.Note that the total we were charged by this company ($60.94) is an 829% markup of the original toll fee we incurred ($6.56). We were never given the opportunity to pay the toll directly, since tolls are collected electronically. Thanks!
I was a little skeptical, but I thought Id take a chance. It was smooth process. Everything went as planned. Quick, simple, low cost trip in a 2018 Acadia. Id rent from them again with no concerns.
I was not explained my add-on options, but somehow had 2 unwanted options added. The car I was given was awful. I couldn’t even connect my phone, not even via Bluetooth. I was planning on paying $150ish, like my initial booking stated, but somehow ended up paying $300 (never-mind the $200 deposit that put my bill to $500 for two and a half days of driving!). There was zero transparency. It’s very unlikely that I go through Advantage ever again.
If I could give Advantage Rent a Car zero stars, I would. We arrived and in Austin and went to rent our car. The agent on the floor tried to charge us way too much and gave misinformation about tolls. She to,d us we needed to pay $9.95 per day for the toll package of we would be fined $25 by the state of TX every time we went through a toll. She made absolutely no sense at all. We cancelled our car and went to Enterprise instead. Our vehicle ended up costing $150 less and no toll craziness. I will NEVER rent anything from Advantage Rent a Car! BEWARE and bring your business to another company.
Convenient process for getting and returning the car. Would use Advantage again!
Easy to find counter. No line. Reasonably fast check-in. Friendly agents. Good price. Car in good condition. Would rent from them again.
Absolutely painful experience! Rude, slow, and gas guzzling cars pawned off on you! The wait to pick up the rental was over an hour. I was charged a deposit that was not advertised and tucked in the rental agreement at the very bottom. Was told by the counter person, “if you don’t like it, take your money and try one of the other places”. Can not emphasize enough how slow and rude they were. I over heard the attendant telling a tourist they needed a Texas toll pass (for a fee) because most roads in Texas are toll roads. Living in Texas for over 4 years I seldom use toll roads. Overall very bad experience. Being that a car rental desk is most likely your first interaction with the people of that city, Advantage Car rental really does not fit the personality of Austinites! It felt more like a scam than car rental. Pay the extra for a better experience.
The attendants at this location are pleasant and helpful, but the Advantage corporations customer service is so bloody awful that I cannot recommend ever dealing with this company in any fashion.I will give an example. My friend left his sunglasses in a rental car and asked me to retrieve the sunglasses as I was still in town. The runaround that I was given during this process resulted in some of the most futile and frustrating attempts at communication in history.Calling the number listed on Google Maps and the Advantage website connects you to a central calling center. I figured this would be fine. All I wanted was a way to call the Advantage kiosk to make sure the glasses were there before I traveled to the airport. I cannot imagine that this is an unusual request. Instead of providing me with the phone number, I was told this bit of absurdity: the company policy is that Advantage locations communicate only through email. The operator said they do not even have a phone. I requested the operator communicate with the manager at the branch directly to make sure the glasses were there. She said this is not possible. From this information, I imagine two possible realities:1. The operator was lying to me and simply refused to provide the phone number or help me in any way.2. The operator was telling the truth and Advantage locations are incapable of communicating using telephones.Either possibility reflects a lack of thought regarding professional practice.I will never support Advantage as a rental car company and cannot recommend the company to anyone else. There are much better options available.
Reading both negative and positive reviews for Advantage, I decided to take a chance and see for myself. Overall, I had a very good experience with them. The wait time was reasonable, and the car was ready and clean when we arrived. I will definitely rent from Advantage again.
I made a reservation earlier in the day, the vehicle was ready to go. The attendant made note of all existing damage. The counter was not high-pressure about insurance. They were OVER $100 CHEAPER than Avis, which was the main selling point. Enterprise didnt even have cars! (McDonalds never runs out of burgers..)Couple year old Sonata ran great. Ill keep using Advantage. People complain about things like deposits, toll passes, etc. But I called 5 places, thats just how some regions are. Dont like it? Make more friends and borrow their car. Dont be that whiny guy in front of me in line.
If you want a company that doesn’t take care of their cars.... this is the place. I rented from Advantage last year in SLC and the interior was dirty and the car ran terrible.I used Hot-wire to book my car and it selected Advantage. I just got the car Friday morning and it was banged up exterior and it drove like $h!t. Felt very unsafe going over 45. It was a Kia Forte . Buyer beware !!!
The worst experience I have ever had in regards to customer service.- Overcharged credit card by $600- Refused to admit that the error was made on their behalf (even when presented with the paperwork)- The most rude customer service agent to deal with over the phone. Over a 2 hour phone call to come to the conclusion that we had to return to the airport to sign another new non-botched contract.- Not discounting the mutliple times the guy tried to unsuccessfully pass us on to another agent because he could not be bothered to resolve the problem himself (which he ended up doing after we made the 2 hour trip back to the airport).- No apology was offered, no attempt at any kind of service recovery to be seen. The agent was literally reclined with his feet up and arms crossed when we approached the desk. Now I work in customer service myself managing a team, I accept when we have made faults and we have areas to improve and to be honest this is the first google review I have made because I felt so compelled to let people know how terrible the service was overall. We have rented from LAX on 2 separate occasions through Advantage and they were great. Terrible Texas on the other hand, I would avoid like the plague. There are many rental places right next to this one.I would sooner walk than rent from this branch again due to your service team member. So if you take one thing away from this - Rent anywhere but here!
You know, the folks working for them are great. Really they are. But the company policy to charge the full amount of the rental plus the down-payment on full the first day of your rental is ridiculous. They do refund it after you return the car, but sometimes that is not on the same credit card billing cycle, so it leads to, in my mind, them externalizing an unfair amount of cost to their customers. I prefer National.
If I could rate a rental car place less than zero stars I would ecstatic as this is the absolute worst rental car place that I have ever dealt with. Not only did we wait 2 hours for a rental car, which we reserved ahead of time, I left my sunglasses on the center console. When I called them 6 hours later, they have an indirect customer support/service line which responds promptly within 24 hours (sarcasm). I had to file two separate customer support tickets and they still didnt call me back. I ended up showing up to the rental place, in which they had told me that my glasses, which were in plain sight, were not in their lost and found. This company steals and should have their business license revoked. Word to the wise, pay a little extra and go with a reputable company.
Without question the worst car rental experience I have ever had. The rental they provided us had a leaking tire and we had to air it up right away (and several times thereafter), and when it became too flat to drive on, I was ready to put on the spare tire, only to find our car did not have one. Spent over an hour on the phone with customer service and the local rental counter staff... they transferred us all over, referred us to non-existent manager contact #s, and in the end refused to help us in any way because we had not chosen to purchase roadside assistance... which we would not have needed if they hadnt given us the leaking tire OR at least provided a spare. Also, they charged an additional $25 administrative fee *for each road toll* and had not offered us any toll package upfront. I am sure that this all falls within the fine print I signed, but its clear to me that theyre happy to take advantage of customers, and I wont patronize them ever again.
I just rented a car on the 1st and the rental process was quick and easy. They of course try to upsell you to a more expensive vehicle than you reserved, and try to get you to buy the insurance/protection plans, but thats just business.. I got a great rate on a spacious SUV, and I really appreciated their refueling options. I chose to prepay for a tank of gas at the time of rental, that was extremely convenient.. I will rent from advantage again next time I travel.
The reason I gave 3 stars is this: upon arriving at the airport, I was jovial with the clerk because Ive worked retail myself. He seemed pleasant, however I rented a Hyundai sonata or similar car for a reason. He told me there were none and down graded me to a Jetta. I asked how much to upgrade and he told me an additional $135 which I could not do. I left disappointed and realized I could not count on this agency to get me the car I rented. I went upstairs and to my shock there were 2 sonata waiting to be taken and were not reserved. There was a third coming in. I asked the lady at the desk who I recall has helped me in the past, if that sonata driving by was coming in and could i wait for it because i just assumed the other two were reserved. I mean why would the guy at the counter lie to me? She said yes and she looked at my original agreement. I told her he had put me in a Jetta and she said thats not right. If we dont have the size car you reserved you are supposed to be automatically upgraded. I said I really dont need an SUV but if I could wait for that sonata I would be grateful. She changed my ticket and to my surprise told me the other two were not reserved then set me up in a sonata. So my reason for a three was very difficult. The lady at the kiosk for the cars deserves so much of my gratitude and thankfulness while the young man at the counter absolutley destroyed my faith in this company and any desire to do business with him again because he is a liar. This makes me sad because in the past advantage was a very trusted company to me.
The car was a diesel not gasoline, no USB port and the phone blue tooth only worked for phone calls so we couldn’t use our navigation over the vehicle speakers. The vehicle was given to us filthy...there was dirt and smudge marks all over the door and steering wheel. The compartments were sticky and had food stains from the previous driver. We had several ants crawl out from the center console. The exterior of the vehicle was covered in bird fecies and bugs so we couldnt thoroughly check the vehicle for damage. Worst car rental ever. Never coming back to Advantage again. Worth spending extra money for a better quality rental place.
Booked our rental through a broker site and Advantage was by far the cheapest for a minivan. Several days before our trip our plans changed and the reservation needed to be changed. The customer service number was simple and got me to a representative quickly who was very polite and courteous and changed my reservation with no problems...to make a long story short, our plans changed 4 more times in a short period of time and each time, customer service changed our reservation with no fees or hastle. When we FINALLY picked up the van, the counter staff (Austin TX airport) were quick, super nice, and very sympathetic to our situation and again extremely courteous. I have had nothing but excellent communication and customer service from Advantage!
I ended up paying almos $200 in tolls, I was never explained by any associate from this company you pay 15 dollars per toll no per day...I called customer’s service and they said nothing they can do these are admin fees... seriously...this was my first and last time renting with this company, i always rent with Enterprise and I have never had any issues. Stay away from this company Advantage....they don’t care about customers.
Great car rental company. Super friendly staff and great prices. Easy to use too! Great cars!!
BEWARE! They will charge you for upgrades, even if you dont request one! I was charged $85 for my UN-requested upgrade to a dirty car! They pamphlet states no surprises at the counter which is a lie. Worst ever experience of renting a car!
Advantage Rent A car may seem cheaper when you compare rates with other companies. But there is a reason to it and YOU MAY BE CHARGED EXTRA COSTS AND END UP PAYING MORE THAN YOU WOULD IF YOU RENT WITH OTHER COMPANIES, WITH THE ADDITION OF STRESS!! Just horrible customer service like everyone is talking about. They are impossible to reach. When you call, you can never talk to a real person, and they direct you to send them emails which they NEVER answer. They dont even do an inspection of the car with you like all other rental companies do before you take the car and if there was an existing problem with the car, trust me they will charge you for it. One of the cars we rented had a big dent in the back and we had to go back to the airport during our vacation to let them know, because, like I said, they NEVER answer your calls. Plus, we rented 2 cars and they charged us $50 for each car for navigation, when there was no navigation in either of the cars. We are still trying to reach them but no answer. I just wont rent here NEVER EVER!!!.
Airport personnel were very pleasant and very helpful. Car was practically new and the rates were the best around. Ill definitely be using them again.
Easy to locate the counter. Helpful service. Id definitely rent from Advantage again.
Advantage rent a car has affordable prices, quick service and easy to find inside the Austin airport. I will be using Advantage again for rental car needs. Great service.
Five stars,for me was a good experience,nice staff,nice car,best prices *****
Horrible horrible service. Had booked a standard size car, and was told that they only had a disel Volkswagen Jetta. I asked for another Gas (non- disel) car and was told they only had SUVs. I agreed to one and wasnt informed at all about the extra $50 charge for upgrade. When the agent was about to swipe my card for deposit, I asked if there was any fee, and was then informed there was. I asked to be downgraded to a midsize car, and was told there was an additional fee for it too ! This is ridiculous ! Additional fee for a downgrade?!!On checking the parking lot, I could see atleast 5 midsize/standard size cars !! But by then I was getting late and in no mood to fight !Never renting again from @Advantage rental !
Christian is a wonderful man!! Had my car through the hurtz denied because of credit. Checked around at most of the other car rental places at the airport and just as I was about to give up I tried one last time and Christian pulled through and was able to help me out. Not only did I get wonderful service and a car but I also got great rates for the time I needed the car. I also spoke with him again for when I was going to need to rent a car again and he said he would take care of me, what a relief!!!! Thank you Christian your a true blessing to your company!!!!
Note the extensive comments next to the bad reviews in contrast to 5 star reviews devoid of comments. The good reviews were likely written by employees. Googles dropped the ball on countering this bad practice. Bad review after bad review indicates like stereotypes: theres usually for a valid reason. My first impressions of Advantage were bad. My reference point is dealing with legit outfits like National, Enterprise, and Budget who have mobile apps and phone reps who speak fluent English, are professional, and competent. With Advantage, you can tell instantly this is a cheap, low-brow operation. Phone reps arent professional. My employer made the reservation for me, the same way millions of car rentals are made every day. With a legitimate car rental, your employers travel dept makes your reservation, you get rewards points. Not Advantage. The unengaged, unconcerned, and clueless phone reps were puzzled by the concept of getting rewards points on a reservation made a few hours previously. My travel dept chose Advantage, I registered for Advantages reward program online, then saw the site would not associate my rewards account with my reservation. Just a glitch, I thought, which can happen to every site from time to time. When I called and had to speak to several incompetent, bored, unconcerned reps, it became apparent why this dysfunctional disaster had low ratings. I have yet to get there and rent my car. Will update.Update: picking up car was a good experience. 2 of the 3 people I dealt with were professional, polite, and competent. The 3rd was rude. It seems to be a mixed bag dealing with this company. As of now, I give the aggregate experience 3/5. It was lousy online and phone experience. In person at Austin Bergstrom Airport, 2 out of 3 reps were great. The 3rd and last one was rude.
So easy to do online! Cheapest price considering tht we needed a vehicle with 7 seats. Pick up and return were a breeze!
Karen was very pleasant, provided great information and also was knowledgeable about where we were going (The Hill Country) and things to do in the area.
The pick up and drop off was not stressful. The interior of my car was not as clean as I’d prefer. However the mechanics of the car given was reliable.
DO NOT RENT FROM ADVANTAGE RANT A CAR!I had my rental all set on the web site. I then noticed that the pickup time was incorrect so I hit the back button and changed the pickup time. I did not notice that this also changed the pickup date to todays date instead of next week. I immediately called customer service and was told by 3 people in customer service that I could not change or cancel this reservation because it was within 24 hours of the pickup. I was charged the full amount for a rental that I will never pickup. I was offered no alternate solution.I have always used enterprise in the past and will not make the mistake of not using them again.
Very helpful and friendly service. Agent even walked me to my car to make sure that everything was perfect. Thank you for fast and friendly service.
Got my rental at ABIA through hotwire at a really great price. My only issue was that the rental was advertised as unlimited miles but, when I went to pick-up the car I was told because Im a local renter there was a $20/day extra charge for unlimited miles. That was not mentioned anywhere on the website so that was a little upsetting. The car on the other hand was great & the employees were very friendly.
DONT EVER RENT FROM HERE! First off they tried to charge me for a toll road fee which i caught before i walked away which was fixed. I should have known right there that they would try to sneak in charges. Michael set me up with a vehicle which they didnt even have upstairs so i had to go back down because he wasnt answering the phone when the people upstairs tried calling multiple times. When i got downstairs he was busy talking to the girls in the next booth. They couldnt seem to get their stuff together. After i return the vehicle I see they added extra charges after I told the people 3 times I didnt want any of their insurance. I always use my own. I have never had this problem anywhere else. A different useless man tried to tell me there was nothing they could do about it. Apparently they only hire incompetent people who cant get anything right so I chose to eventually walk away instead of making a scene over 15 dollars. I chose this place because it was suppose to be cheap. A mistake I will never make again.
Friendly, compassionate people who did more than just rent me a car when I was going home for my mom’s unexpected funeral. I truly appreciate how I was cared for.
Worst experience renting a car ever, over priced and they up-sell you when you pick up your car in person. I was told I need a toll pass in Austin because they are everywhere. I didnt go through one toll the entire week I was there so it was just another cost they swindled me on. I also let the guy know I already had insurance and didnt need theirs and he still charged me (my fault for not taking my time reviewing the charges before paying upon pickup). Literally they will try and take advantage of you in any way possible- buyer beware. This place is terrible and I fully regret not going with Avis- will never make that mistake again.
Jason was a great agent.. The prices were right we just had a super long wait.. But I guess thats because they had GREAT prices!!!
If you value time over money, rent from Hertz. The agent was unable to log into the computer because another agent forgot to log out. Then they proceeded at a snails pace. There was literally no one in line but me and it still took half an hour to get a car. Never again.
I was on a trip this past sunday and we had a bad experience with the vehicle. One of my best friends needed her mobile oxygen for her disease and the rental car company gave us a car without any power and wont refund us but 130$ from a defective car in both power and gas efficiency. The situation was not handled in any way in a fair manner and the city manager is in Austin is the reason to blame. His name Is Mark. Horrible representation of customer service and its sad that you all choose to allow someone to represent your business.
I booked an economic car with Advantage through travelocity. The price was very affordable and the best I could have hoped for. I needed to change the pickup/drop off time after making the reservation. I had to call travelocity to work it out, and it was pretty simple and easy, it just took time on the phone. When I picked up the car, the front desk worker was a little pushy with respect to the insurance plans and toll road passes. When I went up to the garage to pick up the car, the worker gave me the wrong vehicle (a Chevy Malibu instead of a Mitsubishi Mirage). When I pointed out the error, they apologized and got me the right car, but I had to wait 10 minutes for it.The car I rented was in excellent condition and I had zero problems with it.Overall, if you are on a budget and can deal with minor issues, its a very affordable option. If you are tight on time and have money to spare, consider other companies.
Ok, let me begin with we travel a lot through out the year and I always rent thru Enterprise rental. But being our first time flying into Austin Texas I decided to chance it with advantage rental car there at the airport. I will say if I could give a -5 stars I would. I am not one to make such bad reviews but if it will say someone the time and frustration that we had to go thru with our experience with advantage rental car and their policies and customer service rep Jason at this location, its worth it.First, I reserved online, and the total, INCLUDING TAXES AND FEES, came to $338 FOR A WEEK. We arrive at the counter and not so kindly greeted by Jason with a hey folks, not a welcome or what can I do etc. Not even looking up from his computer. Ok everyone has a bad day I thought. I begin to hand Jason my print out, he rudly interrupts and does not even take it only ask for last name. And then his fast talking begins. With this being our first time to Austin, we are at this guys mercy. And he knows it. Because I made the reservation in my name, and my husband was going to do the driving, he says he has to charge me $63.00 dollars to add him.not ok lets cancel it under your name and reserve under his to save that charge. Oh no. Cant do that. That was the first add on. Second with us new here he tells us we will need the toll package. If not, we will pay $8 a toll which are very close together. I was hesitant but he was falsly advising us we will need it for a week for a total of $90 dollars. Thats the second add on from Jason. Thirsd gas, so we dont have to fill up on return which I dont mind, but again he insisted saves time etc, I asked how much is gas prices here he said $2.48(which I find untrue, its 2.19). So third add on, he charged us $50.00. ok after we get to car, had not been cleaned but at this point, with my reservation made online expecting to pay$338, now after dealing with Jason at advantage and the charges my rental price ended up being $600. We never even used NOT 1 TOLL DURING OUR WEEK IN AUSTIN, I called their customer service to be only told they couldnt give my money back, have to go back to airport and talk to them, only to be told I couldnt talk to anyone at the airport have to call or email a complaint. Well, I WILL NEVER USE ADVANTAGE RENTAL CAR AGAIN AND I SUGGEST OTHERS TO LOOK VERY CAREFULLY, BIG SCAM.
DON’T RENT FROM THEM. They will scam you and take your money. They don’t tell you that if you sign to wave collision insurance it’s 25 a day. They also charge for the insurance either way when your auto insurance should cover any accident if you got into one. No one was helpful and there’s no way I’m paying for something that I didn’t agree to nor sign for, but they’ll tell you when you sign for the car that, that’s your agreement. Hope you guys feel great about scamming people out of money. Go elsewhere. Other companies don’t have hidden fees.
Advantage representative was very helpful and courteous. He made the challenging experience of renting a car as easy as possible. Although the full-size car I had reserved was unavailable the compact car I did rent was brand new (10 total miles).
Car given was 5 years old and tsmelt like smoke. Also the counter agent was deceptive. Would not recommend Advantage.
Easy rental and return. Agent was very friendly. Car was in great shape and we got a great price for our SUV!
Advantage falsely inflated my 2-star review to 4 stars on their survey website so Im making up for it by leaving my honest review here. While the vehicle turned out fine & the return process was pleasant, our pickup at the Austin airport was an upsetting start to our vacation and shaped the rest of our rental experience. While we understood we wouldnt be able to choose our vehicle since we opted for a managers selection discount rate through Kayak/Priceline, we werent aware we could be given an atypical or diesel vehicle. Our pickup agent Jason was pushy, unpleasant and dishonest. He was difficult to work with at the counter, condescending and tried to sell us on upgrades we didnt need by saying our vehicle didnt have certain features (i.e. USB ports) when it in fact did. The vehicle we ended up with, a pickup truck, although clean was difficult to drive and had issues accelerating and braking. While it worked to get us from point A to B, it made our trip stressful. Ive rented from other discount companies and had a significantly better experience. I wouldnt choose Advantage in the future nor would I recommend it.
They didnt honor the pre-paid price. They didnt inform me of the requirements+charges to add my wife as a driver. They kept me waiting despite *no one else* being there. I dont know if its Advantage in general or this location but avoid them.
Everything you want in a car rental...speedy rental of car, car in excellent condition and quick and friendly return
Service was great until we returned the car. During our rental we unfortunately got two flat tires. Each time I called the rental company customer service told me to get the tire replaced and to keep the reciepts and upon return we would be reimbursed for the tires. They even told me they were putting specific notes in the file so there would be no problems or hassle. We returned the car and the attendant made copies of all our receipts, had us fill out the claim forms and told us corporate would be contacting me within the week for my refund. A week later I hadnt heard anything so I decided to follow up. When I called I was told they would do no such reimbursement and that it was against their policy to pay for flat tires. I told the girl that I was told to do this procedure by 3 different people and I would be getting my money back. She told me she would contact corporate but not to expect any money back. So rude! I spent $200 to replace their bad tires. Not to mention the time out of my vacation stranded on the side of the road and getting them fixed. Unacceptable! I have filed a complaint with the BBB and am still waiting on my refund.
The guy at the counter was professional and patient, making it painless to rent a car. Thank you!
Great customer service. Everything was was to find and we were in and out quickly.
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I travel 80% with my job and rent cars at least two weeks a month. This was the first time renting from Advantage. A warning light came on minutes after picking up the car. Unfamiliar with the car I could not find the issue. Twenty-four hours later a warning flashed about low tire pressure. I aired the tire up and later in the day it was low again. I called the local office at the Austin Airport where I picked up the vehicle. The agent told me my only option was to put air in the tire and return the car to the airport for a replacement if they had the same grade vehicle available. A refund or discount to the prepaid charges was not an option. I called four time trying to get through to a manager. I then called the main customer service line and asked for a manager. I was told there are two managers working at the Austin Airport location and there are no managers as the corporate location. When asked for the names, I was told one is in Orlando at a convention for the week and the other manager is on vacation for the week. By far the WORST car rental experience.
Vehicle had a headache producing odor. Passenger side rear window would go down but not up from driver controls. Driver controls for power door locks to lock doors did not function. Telephone attempts to reach customer service proved futile. First time to use Advantage in years. Will also be the last.
