Very kind people while I was in their quarantine center on Cone Street.Remarkably, I was not hired to manage their emergency housing center for covid afterward although I managed that building at one time, Ramada Hotel and Carter Hall, Inc., college dormitory, named for Atlanta city councilman Carter.
My law firm recently made a donation of toiletries and other essential items to Gateway Centers Evolution Center, and while coordinating the donation with their team, I learned just how much Gateway Center does for individuals in need. I want to thank Brandon at The Evolution Center who was very helpful, knowledgeable, and made the donation process easy. You can tell they genuinely care about helping people. Thanks for all you do for the city of Atlanta.
I had the opportunity to connect with Brandon at The Evolution Center through my job. I reached out to see how we could help in terms of donations, and he was very helpful and communicative. You can tell they are truly invested in helping the individuals who come through the doors in need of assistance.
No help waste time didnt help me at all
I felt like I was a very special person.I was not treated with any disrespect, from anyone, THANKS GATEWAY.
Some of the staff are lazy, inconsiderate, and lean way too much on being an authoritive figure. Especially when they have no experience or training on how to use, and or delegate, authority.Theres also a bad cockroach problem thats being overlooked rather than addressed.I hope, as a resident, that these issues will be dealt with swift resolutions so that the facility can progress to a higher level of compassion and assistance for those in need that come through this facility.
Not the most dangerous place in ATL, but far from being the safest either. Unless you are completely out of hope and options the services offered arent much help.
Please continue to help those of us that have a little less. Because it could easily be you in need. Most of us are one paycheck away from being in the same position, so always be willing to share your blessings with others!
Great place if your homeless... Im homeless.. This broke my heart watching people out here by themselves with mental issues and homeless with no family.. I just wish I could help everyone.. First I will help me.. Ill be back! God says! Just to say I signed up in December and its almost March.. Im still in my truck..
They need to clean up around the general area. Just because it is a shelter doesnt mean it has to look like it. Right across the street from the courthouse too...smh
This is an organization that does not care about people. They knowingly put their workers in unsafe situations and fire folks who disagree. They also don’t care to keep up with clients beyond numbers for funding. Management is deplorable and rude to all people, and they will regularly “ask” (tell) their employees to “work” (volunteer) up to to 8 hours of free overtime a week. Save yourself the time and money and donate/go elsewhere if you can.
The Security man was very respectful and treated every guest in need with dignity. Some of the staff were very generous however, the housing coordinator failed to provide any tangible help as far as Referrals. One housing coordinator in particular Darryl Hogan barely checks his emails, provided that I have sent him a letter of homelessness.
Alot of valuable resources here. It is what it is. Sometimes can take a long time.
I have been to gateway, and the peoples that work there are great 👍 but they dont allow single womens..so I think the program should upgrade for womens as well. Because me and my wife tried getting in their together ❤
I recently called trying to escape a domestic violence situation in Cleveland, OH. I asked for housing assistance since I would be relocating to Georgia. They did not help me at all. The only thing they suggested is that I stay in Ohio unti things calm down. Wow. I am shocked because people die every day at the hand of a loved one. My heart is broken that they would not take this situation more seriously.
I thought it was odd when I call the Gateway Center this morning and I spoke to a young man who supposed to be a case manager and I informed the case manager that I was looking for someone that who would be able to provide support to me and live in my apartment rent free but they would have to go through the Atlanta Housing Authority criminal background check and once past my insurance company would provides some type of payment to the individual and will help that person get certifiedAs long as I live in apartment the person would live there and the person always have the opportunity to leave on their own if they choose
I love the staff and security be on point. Twin is an amazing person here and a good role model
Great for people who want to help themselves. Not for people who just want a handout.
Mr Strong And Kenneth is marvelous
Here is the best thing in the world
It has helped me find an resting place moving forward and has helped me become someone that is able to refresh my life again.
Heartofthestreetsinc.com is always proud to partner with and help Anyone who serves his or her community.
Passing out food to the homeless it was a fun thing to do.
I didnt know this place did so much for the community. If you need ANYTHING go see them. THEY REALLY DO HELP!!!
The best place to go love it here
Its a sad thing that shelters are necessary but its great that they exist for the people who need them. We were sharing food with the people outside.
Great staff. A good place for veterans that are transitioning back to work. Allows you to get back on your feet if you were sick and hospitalized for a serious illnesses.
The Gateway Center is a place where you can meet the needs of the homeless. Our church brings water, snacks, and clothing to the people. You will run into all types of people and you definitely need to take safety precautions.
A young man only 20 years old wanted to get into this shelter and tried on many occasions and the administrative staff would not help him even after he found a job and needed somewhere to go until he could get into a transitional housing program !! Its very sad that these same people were once homeless also and had no place to go but now its oh well for someone else. GOD SITS HIGH AND LOOKS LOW BE CAREFUL HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE
Get help here, stop drug addiction.,new year new hope, Gods promisesdreams
This agency helps many, many people on a daily basis...💯
Gateway Center is great they help with housing for the homeless they offer medical care thru a place called Mercy Mobile Medical care they offer services food stamps for the homeless they have a place to take showers and a place to get clothing
I never received the help I really needed. Being short staffed for this type of business is not fair for those who really needs help. Customer service was great. Thanks.
If your homeless they can help..
It nice place in ways but need desperate improvements in facilities, food rations ect...
As wife of the President/Owner of Vet2Vet Housing, we often donate items to homeless veterans. The staff at the Gateway Center were very nice & helpful. We will be donating & visiting here more often... (update: we will be feeding the entire shelter this month sponsored by Chilis!! So excited to be a part of this!!)
Our visit was in front of the facility. There is no seating. Visit was conducted on the sidewalk across street.
Amazing people who do wonderful work helping others donate time money a prayer that it may continue to flourish
They say that they help everyone who needs help. But when you go down there they tell you that they can only help men.
They have a great security teamThat has respect for the needyThanks security for being so helpful and kind
Disrespectful, Will gain up on you talk crazy to you and downplay you... Not a place for women with children. They thrive off gossip and will believe anything. Ms.Ivory is wishy-washy and will talk about you bad not a place for everybody and they can not be trusted. Id be surprised if I get the call I been waiting on for housing. The worst place Ive ever been in life and my kids. But there is a cutie here sweet as pie tho. And a few of the brothers are cool.not the ones who forgot where they really came from! Good Luck here.
Overall great people really long waiting process. Prepare to be there at least 3hr or more
The Gateway Center has been working to end homelessness in Atlanta for over ten years and they are doing a wonderful job of changing lives of the people they serve! I personally have known many people who have gone from being homeless to home owners because of the help they got at Gateway. It is a wonderful place to volunteer for an individual or group.
Their idea of helping veterans only includes those of in need of drug and alcohol rehabilitation so youre forced to join a program so they can get paid from using you like a commodity... When they place you with housing using HUD-VASH its in heavy drug traffic and high crime areas in an insect infested house..
This shelter facility is very well ran.
They try and help ! On Tue and Thur a welfare case worker is there. On Tuesday and Thursday are Hud days one must come at 6 am 7 am on cause the guy only gives out 15 tickets and on Thursday they give out 10 tickets ..so you are able to take showers in there and wash clothes for them that stay there its a mens shelter. And for referral are from 7 am to 12 noon .
Right now its really really good once you really really want the real help and really really want a brand new life and really really good good help it can really really work for you ok thanks gateway godblees
Long wait no help
Being there taught me a huge lesson in life. That life is what you make it. Only certain people actually cared about the clients. But without gateway I wouldnt have my own apartment. Im thankful.
I am registered, however the staff needs to improve. Got a job and trying to make contact with my caseworker, I forgot her name and but the front desk isnt ample enough to enter my social into the system so I would know her name...I can call her but their creating stumbling blocks for those that dont particularly have understanding of the services allowed. Quit using volunteers that are being forced to volunteer, they DONT want to do it.
Gateway staff are amazing . I don’t know what some of these comments are talking about ! They care and love to help people but they know BS when they see it . So if you didn’t get help you were on that BS! Just saying because they helped me !
WE GIVE HONOR TO GOD: If you put GOD 1st in a all you do and are ready to actually put in the work to get on the right path this is a good start .
Great place to get ahead and get your life on track
A good place to start of you are homeless or have certain lifestyle issues. Many services available, such as laundry and various meetings.
They shelter people in need
These people saved my life when I was there. The wealth of information alone would help most anybody.
They treated the homeless as if they were in a position to do better when they werent. Security was cruel, rude and mean. They fed breakfast to the needy but it was raining heavily outside so they sent them back outside after they went thru the line to have theyre plates of food rained on. A horrible place to have to go to obtain help. Homeless people were talked down to and just disrespected. Something needs to be done to improve this facility.
I was in the Georgia Works program which was a great program so Gateway does Alliance for the homeless community and its a great place you can come to volunteer
Very good staff
Its a great way to keep yourself positively motivated to better yourself and they now have healthcare as well as DFCS all in the same building great resource to keep in the pocket at all times
Excellent Upward Recovery program.
They try to help everyone.
Medical visit
Really was an horrible experience for me and my kids. You get no help just false hope.
Gateway the place that stop homelessness if you are living on the streets go there they will help you get back on your feet start over with Gateway and smile again.
This shelter went downhill after the city made it a “male only “ shelter. The city of Atlanta as long as I can remember has always had a problem with adequate shelters and this just further confirms that the city does not know the face of homelessness. I don’t know what happened to all the women and children and teens that use to be there nor the elderly but I do know Gateway once was the place to go for those who were homeless find hope now it’s just a dismal mess with loitering and traffic and police riding up and down the street. Very sad and disappointed.
As part of food4life from iskcon, we go here to give food for homeless...pls join the group
Very helpful. Showers and laundry services available. Georgia Works program on the 2nd flr is a good work and shelter program.
I love the service they provide to the community they cater to Im on my way there now actually
Cant say still in lobby. But I here good things
Help with shelter housing good place the only issue i have is they have a chapel if your homeless sleeping in car or need hlp w hotel y not open that up for u overall its first come forst serve pple
I do volunteer work here occasionally because I was homeless not to long ago so I like to help out when I can. People are nice (staff).
Im a former resident and I was surprised by the changes. But they provide a much needed service to the homeless and low income clients.
I was at The Gateway Center in 2010. I have now been sober for more than 5 years. I am just so grateful for the opportunity to have had this place to be available to those without insurance.
If you have the time to sit and wait 4-5 hours patiently its a good idea. Not to bad but the time schedule for this place can take alot out of your day.
This place helps the homeless, people fighting addiction and they even provide jobs, shelter and some medical services. Wow.
Made contributions to the mission would like to see more places like this in the east.
Horrible place the staff are very strick on curfew plus bunkmates can get disrespect full
Its a safe place to live and a great alcohol free facility as well as a drug free place
Gateway Center is very attentive to the needs of the needy and they actually care.
It is a place Mainly set to Help end Homelessness and provide othe social services and rehabilitation programs and classes and Work skill such know as Georgia Works in Atlanta Georgia. And also Partners with other Medical and Housing and Mental Health services and programs .
I loved serving residents of the Gateway and working with the employees there. Most of the staff was energetic, helpful and friendly, though there were minor and totally forgivable exceptions.
Alot of free services and helpful housing information
A friend of mine was there. They are full of it! They are supposed to be a Christian organization. However, they discriminate against other religions. They make the women give up their food stamps cards but the meals they provide arent healthy balanced meals. When my friend got her food stamp card back ALL of her food stamps were gone! Crooks! Im reporting them.
My son was here and all of the people living on the street in front of the building is just sad.
Underfunded. Not enough resources for the volume of people that need them. If going, arrive early early early.
They need to give this place a Grammy for having homeless people ear smell like azz lol!! This place is a old jail!!
They help alot of people and have alot of different services. Its a little daunting but they help change a lot of peoples lives. People only see the homeless outside and turn up their noses because they ask for money but that is the center of our sociality. But inside this place lives are transformed for the better when its all said and done
Convenient when you stuck on the street and need a shower or need to use the restroom.
Very nice place to get started on your new life.
Are you serious life requires brains go somewhere else if you need help, from my experience they looked at me like I was a disease and I was totally shocked being I went there to get help. What the people who work there totally dont understand that you dont have to say words to make your point to just go and we dont want to help you. I was very clear to me they didnt care or want to care about my situation. Like I said dont bother to go there in my opinion. Just because my experience was negative doesnt mean yours will be take your chances and try your luck
Nice place very helpful organization
Unprofessional.I was told they help 10 to 20 clients with housing a day. Real talk is usualy they only see 7 people per day.
Good programs and services, however, poor staff. Very unprofessional.
Grat place for mens
This place is a great place for anyone in need of being directed to just about any local community assistance services, this place also houses a Mercy Care clinic and also a Dfcs office convient for those in need of general public assistance (or: food stamps,Medicaid,TANF, WIC) for homeless individuals in need of a structured program to help them regain self-sufficiency theres quite a few that they offer here as well one being : the Georgia Works Program, which aspires, trains and conditions eligible homeless men helping them to regain the ability to be independent home owners/ or renters
Not what I thought it was....buses dont start early enough for me to get there to get in a program....unless i sleep outside somewhere near the center....im screwed DAILY 😯
