I really enjoyed the time I spent at South Arlington Cross Fit. All of the coaches are knowledgable, the workouts/classes are well paced, and the people are great! I appreciated the progression based programing method the coaches use to instruct each class. Recommend you check out the gym if you are considering cross fit!
Loved my experience here. Great programming, very manageable WODs, great staff, and great people. Management was very understanding when I had to step back due to injury.
Wonderful gym with a friendly, positive community. GREAT coaches who place a real emphasis on proper technique. The workouts are varied and challenging (sometimes VERY challenging haha) but always satisfying. Theres a great mix of cardio, strength training, body weight, and mobility/flexibility exercises. Highly, highly recommended for newcomers and experienced athletes alike.
I had been out of shape for a while before I joined South Arlington Fitness & Nutrition. Before joining I was intimidated, concerned about not knowing enough and getting injured. Every coach I met was warm and engaging, making classes so much fun! There is a strong focus on mechanics, which helped me build up on weight sustainably, and without injury! The coaches are very thorough in running through the workouts, so you can modify as needed (but they will push you to keep improving yourself). I highly recommend you take the on-ramp course if it’s been a while since you worked out. I also recommend you take advantage of the nutrition courses and some of the many mini challenges they will have throughout the year. The FitLife Challenge was a game-changer for me. 🙌 It’s such a wonderful team! ❤️
A great place to call your gym! The coaches are passionate and helpful! They are educated, professional, and very welcoming!
I travel a lot. A LOT. 180,000 miles just in one year and coming back to South Arlington is like coming home. Doesnt matter if it the first time or the 27th time I run into a fellow athlete or coach here, the vibe is the same. How can we help make you better. The location is a hidden gem! Metro close and Walk to the Pentagon or Crystal City. Plenty of green space and healthy eating options in the local area. If you are a Govie or military, if you drop in, make sure they know it as they will take good care of you. For many of us, functional fitness is a way of life and the coaches at South Arlington live it- very experienced and they teach, support, and a kick in the butt if you need it. Drop in. Check it out.
This is by far the friendliest gym I have ever been to! It is such a welcoming and encouraging place! The programming is excellent and well-rounded, and the coaches are motivating and give helpful feedback. I like that there is a lot of variety in the workouts and care is taken with the programming to ensure that you get a great workout and avoid injury. The members are all so nice, and there are a variety of ages/fitness levels in every class. Also, I feel much safer in this gym in the COVID era than at some other gyms. The class sizes are small, there are a mix of indoor and outdoor classes, and they have taken a lot of steps to ensure that we are spaced out (when inside you have your own space to work out and your own set of equipment) and to clean and sanitize the equipment.
Challenging yet intentional, systematic programming guided by fantastic coaches. The entire community is friendly and encouraging! I joined this gym during the pandemic; management and staff are continuously transparent & proactive so everyone feels confident, healthy, and safe. After a year at another CrossFit gym, I wish I had found South Arlington Fitness & Nutrition much much sooner!
Fun atmosphere. Coaches will meet you at wherever you are in your fitness journey. I appreciate the focus on proper technique and the encouragement from coaches and other gym members!
The coaches are all great and very helpful!
Updated review. Mehdi & Edith run an absolutely amazing shop here at South Arlington to make it feel like youre working out with a family instead of a generic gym membership. Between how much management cares, the excellent facility and the amazing community involved you really cant find a better gym in the NOVA area. Highly recommended.
The gym staff makes you feel like family and the members are super supportive and encouraging. What an amazing atmosphere to feel and be motivated.
Great gym with excellent programming. Coaches are great and Personally assist you at all times. Best part is the friendly and family atmosphere from owners to coaches and members.
Awesome, positive staff. They have really managed to make us feel safe and comfortable for our workouts and get still making us work hard and stick to our fitness goals. Everyone is really nice that goes there and it’s honestly i the nest part of my day when I’m there!
I have been a proud member for two years, and I cant say enough great things about this place. From the moment I walked through the door on my first day, I was treated like an old friend. The coaching staff are the best around, my fellow members and I encourage and cheer each other on each day, and the sense of community here is wonderful. Each and every visit for me is an opportunity to challenge myself, get rid of stress, and be around friends, and I feel very lucky to be a part of it!
An excellent space with informed and qualified coaches. The team takes time for a deliberate warmup and provides demonstrations before every WOD. Recommend!
This gym is wonderful! I joined in November 2019 and immediately felt comfortable and welcome. Everyone is so friendly, the coaches are amazing at what they do, and the community is so much fun. If you’re looking to get in shape and also make friends, this is the place for you!I also have to add that about four months after I joined, COVID-19 hit. The gym had to close for several weeks but the owners/coaches kept in touch, ran fantastic Zoom classes, and regularly sent emails keeping us updated with gym-related news. Everything felt very smooth and well run, even during a pandemic. Highly recommend SAFN!
Great community, great coaches!
Pros: outstanding coaching staff, good equipment, good owners, good community, great workouts, good leadership and management.Cons: very expensive (yes, there matching value to match in my opinion, but get ready to pay), space gets a little cramped/competitive with 2 gyms sharing the same building (and loud), you always feel like you’re in the way when you’re stretching or trying to do your own thing. Software (push press, true coach) is a little janky/buggy.
Ive been a member of South Arlington Fitness and Nutrition (formerly CrossFit South Arlington) for seven years. I cannot say enough good things about this place--everything about it: the people, the coaches, the programming, how they have handled the coronavirus pandemic. This is a top-notch community full of nice people who love to sweat together (but safely, and socially distanced!). The owners have done everything they can to protect the members and the staff and navigate these difficult times. I could not be happier to have been a part of this community, and I will remain a part of it for as long as Im living in the area.
Great gym ran by great people!
I look forward to seeing the terrific community and awesome coaches every day. So grateful to be a member here!
I really love SAFN. Im not a crossfit person, but have found everyone at the gym to be extremely nice, helpful, welcoming and encouraging. Mehdi and Meredyth are such conscientious owners - this is especially true during this tough covid time, where they have shown great leadership keeping us connected and exercising/active during socially distant times. They put our safety first, but still make being a part of the SAFN community fun and engaging.
This Box is Great! Everyone there is warm and welcoming. The coaches are great, give great instruction. Really reignited my enthusiasm for lifting. The classes are very tough, but the coaches can help you scale to your needs. Great community I was happy to be a part of.
Phenomenal gym with a great community feel! The staff is engaging, professional, and extremely helpful. I have been to many CrossFit boxes as my job requires me to travel a bit. This is by far one of the best Ive attended. Highly recommended for beginners to experts. They have a program for you!
I became a member of CrossFit South Arlington (now South Arlington Fitness & Nutrition (SAFN)) back in 2013 when I first moved to the DC area. I just started CrossFit and dropped in multiple gyms in the DC/Arlington area to compare. Selecting SAFN was one of the best decisions I made. The coaches are top notch and I really liked their programing and philosophy about overall fitness. The community they fostered created a family atmosphere that resulted in making lifelong friends. Although not living in DC anymore, if I do move back, I will live in the Pentagon City/Crystal City area just to be that much closer the SAFN. I highly recommend checking it out.
As a 50+ guy transitioning out of long distance running, i was looking for something new and checked out many competing gyms downtown and in Bethesda. Was impressed right away with the warm greeting i received and the sincere interest in my particular goals. That immediate interaction with coaches vice a membership coordinator on commission with more interest in showing you a fancy locker room was impressive. The coaches are uniformly positive, high energy and push you. All have a great ability to recognize a weakness and execute a strategy to deal with it to keep your workout moving. Strong emphasis on form and technique. Very collegial casual friendly vibe which i think is very cool.
I have been going to CFSA since April last year and that has been the best decision I have ever made! The gym is well equipped, spacious and the coaches here are awesome and so welcoming. The information, the work out strategies and the training they provide you, are very technical, tailored and easy to follow. I was concerned and skeptical about CrossFit before trying it but CFSA changed my mind. It might be challenging but with such a good group around you, it is always fun to do a workout. Amazing coaches and fellow crossfitters! I highly recommend this place.
Ive dropped on here 4 or 5 times now when Im in town for work. Its a great box, great coaches, and an awesome CrossFit atmosphere. I will continue to be back as Im in town.
3 months now with CrossFit South Arlington. Best move I ever made. Classes are fun, instructors are happy motivating crossfit warriors, patient and encouraging. I can do things now I never thought I would be able to do and getting better with each class. Cant say enough good things about CrossFit South Arlington and the great staff. The members of the club are very friendly. This is a happy place to go and have the workout of your life.
Joined the gym a little over a year ago and have been so happy. I had not done crossfit before and it was awesome to be at a place that was so willing to take the time to educate and coach any member, no matter what level. The gym is spacious and clean, the coaches are attentive and detail-oriented, and the gym members are friendly and have a tight knit community. There is a variety of programming for all skill levels and interests; including a competition team with a great coach. This is an awesome place if you are looking to drop in or train in this area.
Best gym in the area for quality coaching and dedicated staff. Love the atmosphere and the attention paid to good movement and technique. The staff cultivates a community of athletes that treats everyone with respect and encouragement. Great place for anyone new to Crossfit as well as a huge knowledge base for intermediate and advance athletes.
There are no word to describe how AMAZING this place is. I LOVE CFSA and I will miss them so much.
I found CFSA because I was searching for a really skilled personal trainer. Im fifty and have serious shoulder issues from a past injury (my shoulder bones were put back together with calcium screws - it was bad and still isnt great, but I want to make the most of what I can do). Ive been searching for a really skilled trainer (a hard find these days) and after trying several other trainers in the area and working with physical therapists, I came to CFSA and met Deonte. His level of knowledge and desire to help me regain mobility and use of my bad shoulder, as well helping me work on my other challenges, has been nothing short of amazing. After training with Deonte for a couple of months, I was making a lot of progress on my limitations and I wanted to start regular classes - something I was sure was out of reach when I walked in the door. In retrospect, it really wasnt. All of the coaches have been wonderful in helping me scale workouts to my limitations and fitness level. They offer a lot of advice and instruction which is particularly helpful for newer members. I surprise myself regularly in how far Ive come. The community is warm and welcoming and surprisingly diverse in age and fitness level.I cannot recommend CFSA highly enough whether youre an experienced crossfitter looking for a box, or you have physical limitations, extra weight, or more years than you care to own up to. This is a great place to pursue your goals.
Great Crossfit gym. Both coaches Kerry and Meredith were very welcoming and helpful for me being a drop-in. WOD was great and unique in the sense Ive never done 200M runs with a 45lb plate. Thank you guys for a great workout.
The Management Team and Coaches are communicative, thoughtful, and engaging. CFSA is a military/LGBT+ friendly and family-oriented space. I HIGHLY recommend it!
Best gym in the area. The coaching and workouts are outstanding. If you are new to the world of CrossFit, this is the place to come and learn what its all about!
You have no clue how lucky you are to be part of this amazing gym. Conor and Bobby are one of the best S&C coaches around. Come try them out!
CFSA has great staff, coaches and community! I appreciate the push that I get during class and the growth that I see from it.
CFSA is a tight knit community for all levels of Athletes. They have open gym options to allow for the flexibility to work on weaknesses, or around personal scheduling issues so you can get the work in. Also, the competition group is strong with one of the most knowledgeable and experienced Crossfit coaches in the area.Great place to get fit!
This place has become a solid community for me since moving to the area. I have gotten in the best shape of my life thanks to the coaches and enjoyed doing so thanks to the wonderful people who go here!
Awesome gym/box! After checking out the other crossfit gyms in the area, I can honestly say this is the best one. Not only is the staff and gym-goers super friendly but they have separate programming for people of all levels; whether youre looking to compete in competitions or just start moving, CFSA has the level of class youre looking for!
This gym is the best for me and my family. We can train with open doors to show off our big butts while squatting because we lack self confidence .On a side note I love the coaches and the detail in movement prep. Its so important for this type of training and cfsa is by far the only C.F. Gym Ive been to that stresses the importance of proper movement. Thank you CFSA!
I’ve been a part of CFSA since 2013. My number one goal was to lose weight and get healthy again. From day one, I never felt pressured to join or to be at the physical level of the other athletes. Everyone cheered for each other and lended a helping hand, especially when there was a new face. Megan, Siddharth, Becka, Conor, Meredyth, Laken, Spandy, and Mehdi are all wonderful and patient coaches. I have worked with each of them personally (there are others, names escape me that have also helped me) and I have seen great results. The nutrition plan is effective and the specific weight lifting programs are also great. Cara Heads program was excellent! This gym is not a “Crossfit” gym. It’s a family of professionals who are invested in proper form in every exercise- even warm ups and cool downs. They push you to document your personal best not a comparison against others. This is by far the best gym to be a part of, it incorporates all types of movements and exercise. I recently ended my membership because of scheduling conflicts and my small children. I will be back and I encourage anyone reading this to go, you won’t regret it!
This gym offers a variety of resources for athletes of all levels and a great community. It also differentiates itself with a coaching focus on movement and awareness.
Great box, coaching, and community! Join if you like a challenge!
Excellent drop-in experience during a business trip to Pentagon City. Detail oriented coach -- thanks to him I set a new PR for box jump height.
I joined CFSA a little over a year ago and it has been nothing but Awesome! I was new to crossfit when I joined and began in the level 100 class. The coaches are amazing with high credentials and VERY knowledgeable. They go above and beyond to break everything down and make sure movements are done not only correctly but SAFELY! With great coaching over the past year I moved up to level 200 and am now part of the competitive team. I am in the best shape I have ever been in all aspects. Whatever your fitness goals may be CFSA will help you reach them safely!
Great coaching. Emphasized technique, movement, and mobility. Pretty good facility too.
This box has the best coaches I have ever seen! They will push you to the limit and ensure you do not injure yourself.
Crossfit South Arlington is a great crossfit gym! I have been a member for over a year and I am sad to be leaving. The coaches are amazing and the workouts kick your butt. I have a chronic injury that prevents me from doing some movements. The coaches have always been able to work with me to provide either modifications or alternative movements. In the year I have been a member I have seen significant growth in my strength, stamina, and coordination. Additionally, the community of people are awesome. There is always someone cheering for you and encouraging you to go one step further. I highly recommend anyone interested in crossfit- from beginner level to RX- to check out CFSA.
This gym is located next to a residential apartment building and as a resident here, I can say the gym managers and members are very disrespectful to its neighbors. There are very few gyms that have open doors, and this one happens to have one facing the apartment building. Given that they know they are in a residential area, they still open the door at all hours of the day including 6am on weekends and 10pm on week nights despite knowing that they are next to an apartment building. What I dont understand is why they have to open the door while working out, most gyms have fans or AC units to help people cool off, and in DC the summers are so hot, opening the doors only makes it hotter. The only reason I would think they are opening the door is to show off how strong or how athletic they are because they lack self confidence. Thank goodness we are moving from this location, these people are inconsiderate and rude! Who works out at 6am on weekends? And if you do, please keep in mind that some people are trying to sleep... no one wants to stare at your big ass in a squat position.
I joined this gym for one month only, to get my butt in gear. I liked the workouts and my beginning-level trainer. However, I did not like the way this gym was managed. The owner charged me after my one month was over--for month Two...something I had NOT signed up for--and insisted that this is what I had signed up for. If it was not for the email chain that I retained that expressed the desire for PRECISELY one months membership, then I would have had to take them to small claims court to get my money back.I thought that all was over after I got my refund three weeks later. However, on the start of month TWO of membership end, it happened AGAIN. I could not believe this when I logged in and saw this on my bank account. This totaled $400 taken from me--without permission--and at a time when I needed to pay my rent. It took ANOTHER three weeks to get my money back, and this did NOT even cover a bounced check fee that I incurred over this time.I still retain the paperwork that I signed when starting my Crossfit classes. NOWHERE on it does it state that ANY membership is assumed infinitum. What do you think this is--a Ballys? Twice bit, twice shy. Stay away. (This place is also much more expensive than most Crossfits.)
