The service here needs some work. Its been 3 months to get my bathroom mirror replaced which was broken on move in day. I still find glass shards on the floor. after they attempted to clean it up. still no mirror after multiple conversations with staff and phone calls. also be aware of homeless in area if you can tolerate the lazy staff and urine scented elevator then this is a good place for you. thats what you get for the price..
THEY MUST’VE BEEN DRUNK ON THE JOB WHEN THEY MADE THE LEASE THEY DONT FOLLOW, BECAUSE NO ITS NOT A SECURED FREAKING BUILDING WHEN YOURE PASSING HOMELESS PEOPLE EVERY SECOND YOU GET OUT OF YOUR APARTMENT, A HOTEL GIVES YOU MORE PRIVACY THAN THIS PLACE BECAUSE THEY DONT DO RANDOM INSPECTIONS THAT WERE NEVER IN THE LEASE, THEY GO IN YOUR APARTMENT AND CHANGE THINGS AND THINK YOU WONT NOTICE, (WAITING FOR MY CAMERA SO I CAN FINALLY CATCH THEM), IF SOMEONE HAD THE MONEY FOR LEGAL FEES AND THE TIME, THIS PLACE IS THE EASIEST OF EASIEST FOR A LAW SUIT!
Its a bad apartment complex. Its missing door knobs. You have tiles missing. Holes in walls.. Very little care is given to Its residents. They are more concerned about new residents than they are about keeping old ones.
Great office staff, everyone is nice and very responsive! Theyve been a bit short staffed in maintenance lately so those issues take a bit longer but they are getting more people and have been very on top of letting me know about issues. Location is close to a lot of restaurants and shops, being mid-town the homeless population is all over the area but Ive never had any issues with people. Location is quiet for being right off Northern Lights, building is old but the apartment is very nice inside. The building stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer being a concrete and steal build which is great too!
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s basically a homeless shelter, they sell you on how secured it is yet homeless people sleepin in the halls because the door locks were broken and nobody to fix them for months, they say they have quiet times but people stomping around at midnight, blasting music outside, disgusting building over all (could add pictures if I really wanted to), see through cracks in the wall, you live in fear that the building just might fall and I PROMISE you, you will get sick at some point because of how dirty it is(even though they have cleaners).
Edit: apologies to the staff, there was just a communication error and they personal reached out to me to make sure I was ok and cleared the air! You don’t find many places that actually reach out to their tenants when the tenant posts a negative review and so I really respect them for reaching out to me and resolving things! Superb staff and very nice and clean apartments!
I have lived at the Castle Apartment Homes since 2013. Very convenient to walk to my workplace. The community is great here. The Community Director, Melissa Holland is the Reigning Queen of The Castle! She is super friendly and goes out of her way to help you. Kudos to the Queen!!!
The ladies at castle apartments helped me out so much, I was moved in in one day! Total lifesavers, rent is affordable to. The building is not located in the most ideal part of town but for a young adult who just needs a place to call home its perfect
I have wanted to moved there and I have had to make decisions, but this one was by far the best decision. From the 1st phone call to my application process has been so smooth. I know this the place I want to stay for as long as I am in Anchorage. The staff is so professional and friendly, they make me feel so welcomed. The unit I looked at had the nicest view with amazing windows. The countertops were updated it was the perfect size for a girl and her dog. I’m ready to move in :)
Staff here is fantastic. Ive been here through two community directors, Melissa, the current community director has gone above and beyond to turn this property around from its former issues. Ive watched this property grow leaps and bonds. Melissa truly runs a phenomenal team of great people, from her office staff to her clean up crew. Before Melissa came and took over the property I had no intentions of renewing my lease, but now I dont see leaving the property to rent anywhere else. When I leave it will be because we have purchased a home. There are still issues that occur, but Melissa and her team of superstars quickly address and fix these issues as soon as they are brought. The new maintenance supervisor Chuck is absolutely fantastic and is on top of things and goes above and beyond to make sure things are taken care of and always makes sure to address additional issues while he is there if anything else needs to be fixed! I love my apartment! It is absolutely beautiful! I love this community and the staff who work here! Thanks guys for really showing you care about the residents who live here!
I have lived here for 6 months and whenever I have had a maintenance issue, it was dealt with quickly. The office staff has always been friendly and happy to help in any way they can.
Good location, keyed accessed building, security is available. Good, accessible, and friendly management. Timely maintenance and housekeeping, close to 3 bus routes which makes it easy to get around if you dont have a vehicle. I would recommend living here to all my family, friends, and coworkers.
The management staff is just about the nicest Ive ever experienced for an apartment complex. Theyre kind, and quick to respond to issues. The apartment is clean and well-cared-for.
Best office staff Ive ever had! Apartment was clean and ready when I showed up to move in, and the move in was a breeze. Thank you Castle Apartments! So happy to be living here 😊
Reason my family and I stay here for as long as we have is because of the staff. From leasing office, maintenance, even the cleaning crew everyone has been amazing to our family.
I love living in this community. It is close to everything. And my apartment is fabulous!
Edit* This place is horrible! Stay far away from it.Im fairly happy with my apartment. It gets the job done. If you are thinking of moving in I would like to provide a few cautions. This is an older building. You will need to sign waivers stating that you are alright living in a building that was built prior to 1978 and uses lead based paint. As some of the other reviews have stated the hallways to do smell like food. An upgraded air exchange system would be much appreciated. The next caution is parking. You will be given a blue or purple card. Blue is for parking anywhere on the property except for under the buildings. The purple card allows you to park under the buildings, but it will cost you $25.00 a month. They do not emphasize this, but you must post your card where it can easily be seen on the rear view mirror. The towing companies are very aggressive. If you fail to post your card and park in the correct area you will be towed same night and without notification. The towing companies patrol the parking lot starting at midnight.
My girlfriend and I were pressured to leave our previous rental early by the owner, and we were not prepared to move out, so we signed a 6 month lease here, that I regretted immediately, and every day thereafter for the entire six months, as well as the almost two months after we moved out that i fought with the landlord to get more than half of our deposit back. We had nearly every problem imaginable from day one.Our keys didnt work in the security door, a problem that their incompetent maintenance department was unable to solve in the six months we were there, often deciding to just leave the security door propped open with a sign saying not to close it for several days until it could be fixed. We dealt with everything from drunks sleeping in the stairwells or urinating in the elevator (happened twice in our 6 months there) to neighbors getting in constant shouting matches to brawls in our hall. Our neighbors grew weed, their dog would poop in the stairwells and they would leave it for someone else to clean up. our refrigerator barely kept ice cream frozen, our hot water was an absolute joke, our base heaters barely worked, the windows leaked, and the stove took forever to get up to temperature. As if all that wasnt bad enough, I had to walk my girlfriend to her car every morning at 3 am (she is a baker) so that the drug dealers and scum bags from the halfway house across the street wouldnt catcall and proposition her on the short walk from the front door to her car. I can tell you with certainty that I wish I was making all of this up, but every single word is true. The real cherry on top was when they only returned half of our security deposit, almost two months after we moved out, citing that we had left the apartment dirty and that they were charging us to clean it, after we spent an entire 8 hour day deep cleaning that 500 sq ft of studio apartment and left it far cleaner than we found it. Upon trying to appeal the cleaning charges, their incompetent staff did everything in their power to waylay or attempt to get me to give up and let them run away with my money. It came down to either take them to court or give up, and i decided against the possible legal fees. To sum all of this up, my girlfriend and I moved in to avoid being homeless for a few days, and in retrospect I would rather live in our car for a year than spend another six months paying too much rent to the slumlords that run the Castle Ghetto. If even one person reads this review and decides against making the worst decision of their lives then I will feel better about our time there.
I absolutely love living here, love my apartment, the staff is great, and there is so much to do in this area of town!
Melissa and Kim in the front office are amazing, they are always keeping good communication, and are always in the best of moods when I stop by. I appreciate how polite and professional they are on a consistent basis!
The staff is friendly and understanding, especially Melissa (community director), and the actually apartment itself isnt too bad, but thats about all the one star is worth. The place is truly awful. The parking lots are always trashed with SOMETHING, whether it be litter or broken glass or maybe even someones bodily fluids, who knows? There was broken glass on over half of the parking lot that was there for week(s) before it suddenly disappeared. On top of the parking lots, the elevators and stairwells have trash in them, daily, from unpleasant neighbors who dont know how to handle themselves or respect any kind of property. As a result, it smells disgusting all the time.Subsequently, theres a lot of rules that make absolutely no sense and are just simply on the lease to pull more money out of your pockets. In order to have any kind of parking under the car port or in the underground garage, you have to pay at least $25+ each month... YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PARK WHERE YOU LIVE. WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE??? If you dont want to pay, you get stuck in uncovered parking, which is a total of maybe 8 or 9 parking spaces amongst the entire building of inhabitants, unless you want to park on the street, which isnt exactly ideal for anyone who doesnt want their car to be jacked or harmed in any way. Oh and by the way, if you dont actually have a cute little pass to park in luxury parking aka the car port or garage, they WILL tow your car. Its happened to me twice, both times my car was there for maybe 5-10 minutes to run groceries upstairs. You also have to pay an unruly $2.00 per load if you do laundry in the building. So not only are you paying to live there (rent + utility bill), you also pay to wash your clothes and park in the parking lot. Its ridiculous. You sign up to pay something like $850 a month on rent which is what you can afford, and end up having to fork over nearly $1k.Not only that, if you dont pay on time because you have weird pay days or something, it shouldnt be a big deal, because theres a grace period, right? WRONG. You dont have a grace period. You have the 24 hours on the 1st of the month to pay, and if you dont pay everything due by then, they give you a processing fee and a late fee, totaling out to another $42.50.And thats just the building and lease requirements. The neighborhood itself is NOT kid friendly, as there are numerous homeless people around and people who are heavily into alcohol and/or drugs who live in the buildings. Its very dangerous to go outside alone, especially if you are young and/or female.Do not rent here. It gets worse and worse as you go, and 90% of my neighbors will agree with me.
Very convenient location. Nice apartments and the staff is very helpful and understanding.
The office staff is great. Maintenance and housekeepers are nice and friendly as well!
Theres a 10 o clock quiet time. Around 1 or 2, people start partying and I sleep with earplugs in. The elevator is extremely slow, given the building is very outdated. And the stairways scare the sh** out of me because the homeless people, the piss and the dingy look makes me feel like im in a damn Saw movie. The staff are great people they really do try to help but the noise at night is getting absolutely out of f**king hand. If you work mornings and expect a good nights sleep, I would not recommend one bit.
Secured building and bums still manage to get into the halls to beg for money and sleep. They moved me in under false pretenses saying my rent included all utilities for $740 and in all actuality I paid $795 if on time which all rent is due the 1st of every month and if you are late it goes up to $855 also they did not clean before I moved in and there were always matainance issues DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!
I have lived at Castle for 5 years. The staff are amazing!
Ive rented apartments and homes on and off for over 40 years and this is the worst company Ive ever dealt with. Examples: Poor maintenance of the plumbing results in leaks and high water usage. How does the management deal with it? Dont fix the plumbing; just charge the residents extra on the water charge back. Problem with another tenant? Nobody to talk to outside of normal business hours. The only 24 hour number is for maintenance. Suggestion from them? If you have an issue with another client (noise for example) call the police. Going out of town and want to pay rent early? Not allowed. Grace period for paying rent? None. Dont want to sign another long term lease? Rent goes up $100 AND you get charged another $100 month to month fee. And so on.I gave my 30 days notice and on my final rent bill I got two Water Charge Backs; one for the typical amount of approximately $30 and ANOTHER for $89.75...Im waiting on a call back and/or e-mail from them to explain the second charge (I sent a contact e-mail with the question but dont have much luck with e-mail inquires so also left a phone msg).Cant wait to see what happens to my Deposit...Ill be amazed if I get anything back.
The staff is always willing to help and please keep the moose as a logo. Kelsey keep up the good work.
Okay let me start, you might want to get a cup of coffee or some popcorn. On your way in the building you have to go through two doors, one door you have to have a key, normally when you use a door you insert the key & the door can open. At “The Castle” you have to find a particular way to open the door, which is bullsh.. anyways before you can even get to your apartment there is another problem. You can either take the elevator that takes years to move or you can use the stairs where homless people like to pee, poop, sleep, & make at home. Before entering the building you probably will be met with a homeless man/woman begging for change or cigarettes. Now when you finally manage to get get to your floor without giving up your wallet, throwing a temper tantrum because of the door key not working, dying of old age because of the elevator, or throwing up because the horrific smells that hail from the stairs you regretfully took you face yet another problem. The smells that reek from the floors that are shampooed probably once a year are discussing. Wait, you need to wash your cloths because of the odors the building(s)? I’m sorry, you can’t, not unless the office is open(in which they aren’t open on the weekend, can’t even do that right) and you have to put money on a card just to wash you goddam cloths. WHICH RUNS OUT WITH IN A WEEK OF YOU PUTTING MONEY ON THE CARD. whoops sorry for yelling. But anyways I highly recommend you don’t pay $1,200 a months for this pathetic excuse of an apartment complex. Yours truely samson xoxo ;)
Seriously, this place is awful. At first seem easy and nice going but hell naw. I just recently got out and Im never gonna rent from here ever again. Bums, cops, fire trucks, and shooting all around. The management here suck ass, they take forever to repair anything and when they do, they aim at the time your not in. Oh god, I hated this place with a passion. The hallways stinks and if you like the smell of weeds and crack. This is your place and another thing, watch out for your car at night.
Weve lived in the only house in the neigborhood, and found ourselves more disappointed than ever. Sewage leaks, water leaks, additional fees associated with rent, trash and water surcharge, horrible location to rent from. Sure hope Weidner discloses the issues we had at this location. Time to give a review on Yelp.
The office ladies are nice!
Stay FAR away from anything Weidner! My apartment has flooded because of horrible plumbing (as stated by the plumber) and to compensate? 100.00 off my rent... Meanwhile all my handmade art is destroyed. They do not care about appearance of anything but the rental office and the trash in the garage was not taken out for 5 months. Homeless people sleep in the halls which smells of old hotel and bad food. Bringing anything up to the property manager results in a blank stare. I am counting the days till I can get out of the lease and leave, never to return.
If you like black mold, drunk homeless natives sleeping in the halls despite this being a secure building then this is the Bulgarian prison for you. Property Management is worthless and I would not recommend any of the Weidnar properties to anyone.
Has a good Staff
