Like others said one size fits all. Tried to send my son home because it wasnt a good fit. Yet they said he was in the interview just to get our money. Took away his Christian books when he arrived. After the program he had bruises on his bottom from be made to sit on a metal chair for hours. Not what they say it is. Long walks, hikes. Nope

I called for information and got very curt responses as well as attitude for inquiring about their services.... I DO NOT RECOMMEND this PLACE.... they will not call a loved one to assist the afflicted in a decision to stay if they are trying to leave... Where as turquoise lodge will call a loved one to get assistance from people who care to try helping the client stay as well as turning point recovery

When we first called this place we thought this was going to be a good facility, little did we know. Our son went to the Rio Rancho facility to start detox and then 2 days later they had him moved to Taos facility to finish detox and do the “30 day” program. Before leaving Rio Rancho we got him cigarettes, which he never received from the nurse and Taos ended up releasing him because he doesn’t “qualify” for the program, mind you they did an interview before enrolling him and had no problem taking our payment which to this day we have yet received it back. $4800 to be exact. Many times we have called and received excuse after excuse, their response to the “cigarettes” are..it’s just cigarettes! It’s the principle and pure fact that your employees are thieves. This place doesn’t help individuals that need the help at all.

Incredible experience here for my son and our family. He got the separation and treatment he needed and is still sober today. Very caring staff at the Albuquerque detox and nice facility. The Taos program he moved to after detox was beautiful and his counselor Richard called me the first day and explained the program and answered all of my questions. Amazing views of nature and he got to do a lot of things that he wouldn’t have been able to do while using and drinking like hiking, campfires, and bonding with the other guys there. The therapy he received here was life changing. Extremely blessed and thankful to have my son back! Thank you Richard and Shadow Mountain

When I was finally ready to get sober I was met with open arms at University Park. I was most impressed by the staffs professionalism and kindness. What sets them apart from other treatment facilities I have been to is that most of them are working a recovery program themselves-so they truly understand! Being sober is the best decision I have ever made and University Park gave me the tools necessary to begin this new way of living! I would recommend University Park to anyone seeking detox or treatment for alcohol and or drugs.

I am a person in long-term recovery, which to me means I haven’t used any alcohol or drugs since January 15th of 2017. At Shadow Mountain, the clinical staff was experienced, patient, and engaged. The support staff such as the techs all represented strong recovery and guys like Nate played a vital role in the beginning of my sobriety. The facilities were adequate and the medical aspect (pharmacology, therapy, group activities) were efficient and beneficial. I wouldn’t have the life I have today without Shadow Mountain.

Shadow Mountain saved my life. It was an incredible experience that taught me about who I am and gave me the skills necessary to continue on finding my place in this world. As I write this review I am 3 years 9 months and 29 days sober. I owe my life to John Beemer and the rest of the staff. If your looking to get the treatment you need; the treatment you deserve, Shadow Mountain is definitely a good place to start. They changed my life, and I hope they can do the same for you! 5 stars!!

If you want to change yourself and your life then Shadow Mountain Recovery in Taos, NM can work for you. My experience there didnt change everything but it put in motion a journey to happiness, fulfillment and sobriety that without the program I would not be on. Until going to Shadow Mountain I really thought I could handle my addiction on my own. This city boy realized, in the mountains of Taos, that he wasnt alone and there are people who want to help and can help. All you need is to be open to the process of healing, honesty, and positivity (Go Deep). It does require you to work and to be open but if you just put in a little effort you can find a new way, a new life, or just a new way of looking at the life you have now. Id recommend treatment to anyone, addict or not. Life isnt always easy and reaching out for help can seem daunting, embarrassing, or weak but if you take the first step and choose a place like Shadow Mountain Recovery someone will definitely be there to guide you. Most importantly theyll be there to help you with every step after the most important step you chose for yourself. Addiction is a difficult and devastating disease but if you choose to take it on Shadow Mountain is a great place to start. Thanks to all the staff that helped me find my way and the new friends that will forever be a part of this journey. Choose sobriety, choose yourself, choose life.

Let me just say this facility helped me save my life. I was here in 2014 and what I learned here started me on a beautiful journey of recovery. I was treated very well, the staff that helped me were so knowledgable in recovery and made it look so attractive I have been able to maintain my sobriety since. The groups were so informative and showed me how I could have choices and tools to stay sober. I am forever grateful to this rehab. If your considering or even think you need help take a look at this place. I am so glad my recovery started there. Thank you to staff for all you taught me for the ways you were gentle yet straightforward.

This place has a one-size fits all approach. Corporate profit driven. The intake interview is done by phone by someone in Texas who you never get to meet. Never go there.

I was taken off of 24mg of Suboxone with no tapper, I have never experienced the mental breakdown that I experienced over the 12 days I was a client (meaning my insurance was accepted as that was explained to be the first question asked, which makes sense in a for profit recovery center, it also makes sense after realizing the Sales staff and Raul specifically have told you whatever they need to (( there are horses, an on-sight barber, your medication which was obtained legally and is non-narcotic wont be destroyed, a state of the art gym, etc...)) in order to get you to Taos only to discover the only way out is a 5 mile walk after which you can thumb a ride back to Albuquerque, in other words the first week you spend questioning how much care is given to the clients when you feel lied to and stuck. The facility is a representation of NA and AA and basically they train you to go to meetings for $30,000 a month, yet they do not represent and are not affiliated with either fellowship, which may be confusing but so is so much of your experience that you learn to go with it and trust that 2 out of 10 of you will succeed, as a member of the 8 that wont succeed I regret asking questions as this is looked down upon. I was given an ultimatum to shut up or leave, I do appreciate that I was given a ride back to Albuquerque. Again, the experience of being taken off 24mg of Suboxone with nothing more than an anti-depressant to help with sleep and medications equivalent to childrens medications as comfort meds, was something I cant explain and as my mind deteriorated into what I can only explain as the state of mind that caused me to pray for sleep and want nothing more than something to take away my anxiety and calm me down, these were the medications destroyed from inside my truck and without my permission. The thing about this is they have a cookie-cutter approach to Recovery and it does work for some guys, I know the staff cares which makes this so difficult for me because I feel betrayed, lied to, and put into a one-size fits all program. I can go to meetings without what was sold to me. I trusted the staff and believed they wanted whats best for me and I feel beaten down and left questioning why I feel hurt by those who praise how much they care. This is a program that knows whats best for you but the staff all have their own stories that approach care but seemingly forget what they went through because it wasnt what I went through. This is the deal, they strip you down to nothing, take away any of your own comfort and replace it with their version of discomfort, as addicts we deserve this because this process couldnt be comfortable even though we have all been through so much discomfort that we ask strangers for help. I dont know of any staff that had gone through this program accept one and Id rather not question that it worked for her as clearly it did and I honestly dont question that, however it seems that we as clients are expected to get it in 30 days and not pay attention that every story you hear involves a journey through the steps but the struggles are evident, the turmoil is expressed, and the story is individualized. So why do I feel like a rat in rat park, expected to conform and advance while not working the steps but become the person that the steps create. In other words, we didnt do step work but are treated as if we have. I had a mental breakdown that was only made worse while at Shadow Mountain and it sucks, any relief I had to look forward to was taken from me. Im trying to understand who I was supposed to be, why my honesty was so harmful but not ever addressed, and why me being able to go through this process with some sort of not wrecking me emotionally, physically, and spiritually so much so that I wish the staff didnt care. Thank you for giving me a platform to talk, I respect what you do and I disagree with you, Im sorry if I came off as anything other than broken, Ive never wanted to use more than I have recently, I became a junkie during my stay.

I thought I lost an old friend from high school to addiction, I wont mention his name but he is a completely different person now. As much as I tried to help him, I never could. Almost a decade after we were in school together, he sought help through Shadow Mountain Recovery. To be honest, I always had doubts about rehab programs. Shadow Mountain proved me wrong when it comes to my friend. He is truly back to the person I have always respected so much. I can honestly say that if you know someone that is stuck in an addiction, this is the place that can help.

Wish I could give it ZERO stars. This is for the detox in Albuquerque, NM. I know detox is not a pick-nick, been through it 3 times before. That said....................... They will tell you anything to get you to come. Then when you get there they treat you like you are in jail. Treat you not even like a human being. By all means; FIND A DIFFERENT DETOX.Dr Keith lied blatantly to me, through phone calls and via text, only for me to fly down and the whole plan changed. All the meds he TOLD ME TO BRING, they were going to throw in the trash, the MIKE told me I couldn’t leave!I’m like, you cannot stop me from leaving Sir. Left, had to get hotel, rental car, then plan flight back home.Nurse Susan, and intake lady Megan were the only ones who treated me like a human being. Sad to have a place like this even exist. DO NO GO THERE!!!!!

Shadow Mountain is a unique place. It’s location in the middle of a canyon is matched to no other. The atmosphere is very unique (in a good way). The mentors do a excellent job at menotoring, and Kasey (runs the place) is very good at what she does. Every Friday you go to a meeting then go out to eat. On saturdays you either hike, or do team building excersises. On sundays in the winter everyone goes up to Taos Ski Valley and either hang out and play cards, snowboard, or ski. This provides a nice break from the day to day grind. I find myself missing the atmosphere at times. If you’re willing to put the work into you’re recovery this place will help you and give you the tools you need. Shadow Mountain provides family oriented counseling. For some people this is what they need, and for some it is not. I’m giving this place 4 stars. The reason why I’m not giving it 5 is because of one counselor I didn’t see eye to eye with, who was initially running the place when I first got there. She shouldn’t have been running the place. There was no reasoning with her. Thankfully the higher ups understood that as well and brought in Kasey. Once Kasey started running the place, I found myself enjoying every bit of it.
