Review №2

My son Kyle was diagnosed with autism on June 5th of 2015(on his father, Kyle Sr. Birthday) We started out with early intervention through Thom and they refferred us to BCI. Between Thom (early intervention) and BCI, my son has come a far way in just over a year because he turned 3 In August. When Thom and BCI first started working with my son he had between 5-10 single words he could say. He was violent, and he had a certain way of doing things. He was obsessed with cars but he didnt drive them or play with them, he only lined them up. The same thing with shoes. He was obsessed with them and he would constantly line them up. He rarely gave eye contact or showed love, or any emotion at all besides anger and pain. Now he has over 200 words in his vocabulary, he says short phrases and sentences. He can count to ten. He no longer lines up his cars, but actually plays with them too. He LOVES super heroes (especially Spider-Man). He plays with a variety of toys now instead of just lining up his cars. He plays with and can assist with putting together puzzles and Legos. He now knows how to pretend play. He can tell you when he wants something n when he dont as well as what he wants. He can tell you the names of everyone in his family as well as some of his friends too. He is still pretty violent, mostly with his 3 year older sister (Jaila) but he LOVES her to death, as does she feel for him. He shows all emotions from happiness to sadness, excitement and fear. He LOVES to go in the water and swim. He shows eye contact all of the time now. Although he is stubborn n does a lot of things on HIS time n when HE wants to, if you ask him what something in a book is such as a flower he will tell you exactly what it is. He will also say what or whom the picture associates with for example when you show him a flower in a book he will say its a flower and then say his sisters name because she often wears flowers in her hair. He knows all of his colors and he was recently denied to attend pre-school in our city through the special education department because although he was medically diagnosed with autism and is medically considered disabled he doesnt fit the criteria of being disabled under the citys special education department. He has come so far in just a couple months over a year and I have two agencys to thank for that and 3 different people from these agencys. I thank Laurie from Thom early intervention and I Thank Amanda (his case coordinator) and Cara (his case worker?) both from BCI for helping Kyle reach all of these amazing milestones he has met in such a short period of time.
