I had a Groupon for an oil change. They accepted it and were very friendly however when I left I noticed a light come on. By the time I got home they were closed so I called the next day to ask if maybe they had hit a wire by accident. He said the light didnt have anything to do with the oil change but as I was trying to explain to him maybe theyd accidentally hit a wire he started to talk over me and seemed upset when I was trying to explain to him what was going on. I wouldve gladly took it back for them to look at it until he got an attitude and continued to talk over me. So by that time I was done with the conversation because of his attitude. I figured it wouldve been a waste of my time to go back for them to look at it because he had already made up his mind. He may have been right about it having nothing to do with what theyd done to my vehicle and if hed been nice and not tried talking over me I wouldve taking it back and if it didnt have anything to do with what theyd done Id probably asked them to find out what the problem was and had them fix it. It just surprised me how nice he was the first day to then turn around and be rude the next day when I called back

These folks are some of the most helpful and resourceful auto professionals in the Piedmont Triad. If you need repairs done check them out and they will give you an honest assessment of what it will take to keep you going.

I went to Charlies in October to get my NC vehicle inspection done. While I was there I asked if he could take a look at the nonfunctional liftgate on my Subaru Outback. One of his mechanics told me it was a simple fix of replacing the hydraulic arms and I could easily do it at home. David even looked up the part number for me. I was stunned by their honesty and will definitely be back when I need any repairs outside of my limited abilities! You guys are awesome! BTW....the liftgate works perfectly now!

Charlies Automotive Repair is the most customer friendly service shop around the Winston Salem area I know. The owner (David) is straightforward about what your vehicle problems are and going out of his way to help solve the problem. Ive been a pleased customer of his business for years. Never told me anything wrong about my vehicles unless my vehicles had issues. I trust everything about the business and its employees. Keep up the great work guys.

I want to share my experience at Charlies. Not only was I highly satisfied, but I highly recommend you take your business to this location. The owner and his staff is the best. Friendly atmosphere and it seems likeep we have known each other for years. I will be taking all my cars there for services and telling others. I came in on a routine tuneup on my vehicle... David weaver (very rude) told me that CHARLIE’S AUTOMOTIVE does not render service to AFRICAN AMERICANS & to please leave or he would call the police . All I wanted was a simple tune up ... not to cause any type of issue. PLEASE DONT GO THERE THEY ONLY SERVICE WHITE PEOPLE I guess

Charlie’s automotive repair has given me the best service in Winston Salem. After having a horrible experience at a ford dealership in town, I came to Charlie’s to get an oil change. Since the first phone call, David was very polite and welcoming. He made sure to show me what my options were and found out my car had an oil leak! He had coffee waiting for me and a ride home while I waited for my car to get fixed. I can not say enough about this place I will be back for more work on my car. Thanks again guys!!

At first I really liked this place but my 2 visits have caused me to change my mind. Visit 1. Took in my van to have my AC checked because the fan was not blowing. After installing a new fan, which was faulty, they told me they could have not given me the fan because it was just the regulator that was bad. Not only was I overcharged, I was given a part that I later had to fix and it honestly still has a high pitch winding sound, work was done to a part that was not broken costing me more $.Visit 2. I went back maybe 1 year later because I was in a pinch. My check engine light was on and the dude said he would hook it up to the machine and it would only take a few seconds. I live close so I drove down. He said it was 2 spark plugs or 2 coils and he would have to open up the engine to k ow more. Later on the phone with my husband he said it was 3 spark plugs when my husband called him questioning the $ of the quote I was given.We decided to proceed because he said he could have the work done in the timeframe i repeated 3 times i had to meet. I also asked for an oil change and a check of the transmission fluid. He said his worked had to make up hours so it was fine for him to work saturday and said it would be under 300. I asked to be called if they find something and when its ready. No one called me so i drove out to pick it up and i was informed that they decided to change me engine mount without asking me. Regardless if it needed to be done or not, no one asked. I should not come into a shop to pick up my vehicle to find out unauthorized work was done regardless if the final cost of the repair was under the quoted amount. This was the reason i was given, because it ended up being under 300. I was also told i made his guy come in on his day off...yeah, like I can actually do that, and to never come back to his shop. He did unauthorized work and threw me out.It would have been another 1.5 hours to put the bad part back on and I honestly didnt want to spend another second there, or want a bad part in my van after it had been removed, so I paid and left. I was not given any scope or work printout or receipt showing what was done, like you would at a reputable shop.Moral of this novel, buyer beware, I guess. I would definitely not recommend as they take liberties with your car and do unnecessary and unauthorized work.

This is the one place I trust with my car in Winston. Ive been to several but I trust David and his staff more than any other auto shop. Hes honest and fair and will give a reasonable price. Im not going anywhere else!

Had AAA tow me to Charliess Automotive based on the great reviews and the owner David Weaver identified the problem, ordered parts, installed everything and had me own my way by mid-afternoon. Pricing was INCREDIBLY fair and clearly stated...no hidden fees, no surprises! Bonus, if you are a dog lover, three of the sweetest, well behaved dogs will pass the time with you while your car is repaired.

Been here several times and they always fix my issues (and, Ive had quite a few). Just brought two vehicles there in the past few days. They fixed what was wrong despite challenging issues with both vehicles. Honest and affordable.

HORRIBLE MECHANICS, DISHONEST, NO REMORSE FOR BAD WORK! STAY AWAY!!!!!We took our Ford Truck to have the manual clutch changed. They called and said it was ready. We paid Dave over $1300 for their work. We went to pick it up and it would not go in gear. Dave the owner said oh the mechanic said it was ready. Leave it til tomorrow and we will make sure all is ok. We go next day to pick it up. The clutch works this time but the hears still scratch like clutch is not engaging. Dave say leave it one more day. Day three we come, and pick up truck...clutch still not engaging and must be forced into gear. Dave tried to convince us that was normal. The truck was not like that before Dave and his mechanic touched it.Having paid $1300 for a clutch that was not working, Dave said there was nothing else they could do because his mechanic just didnt know how to fix a clutch in a manual Ford truck! Could they have told us that BEFORE we gave them $1300 and they made the truck worse than when it arrived? We went to a GREAT mechanic who fixed the problem easily and showed us all the things that Dave and his people had broken while trying to fix our truck. He charged us $800, including parts, proving that Dave and his mechanic were price gouging from the start. Thanks, Dave, for showing us who NOT to trust!!!!

As an out of town resident David and his mechanics treated me as if I were his next door neighbor.In early December of this year 2017, I was on a planned trip back to Florida and my Engine had froze up, not knowing who to bring my vehicle to I decided on the closest mechanic which was Charlie’s automotive, after reviewing the situation David gave me all the options based on the repairs needed, he and Joe showed me each damaged part and gave an exact cost of each replacement, this allowed me to make the right decisions on whether to get a new vehicle or replace existing parts. David gave me time frames that were realistic and he did meet which when out of town this is Crucial, I will continue to refer clients to him being my new residents will be here in Pfafftown NC.Side note:When stopping in an auto parts store in the old town to pick up some fuses, a conversation started about Charlie‘s automotive and David‘s reputation, which is stellar in this area based on that conversation.Also his Dogs are incredibly friendly to humans and welcomed my Belgian Malinois Brady with open paws.
