This place is a joke. To preface: I understand the rental car shortage right now, including the Taiwan microchip issues. I made a reservation here about two weeks before I needed the car. To make the reservation, I had to call the actual location since they have no online booking. The phone rang for two minutes straight and then disconnected. Tried again, got Wes to answer the phone. I made the reservation and then was told that I needed to call back a couple days before my reservation to make sure they actually have the vehicle. What?? Why do I have to call the business? Why isn’t there a process in place for this overbooking situation? Why are you booking reservations for cars you can’t guarantee? Fast forward to the week I’m supposed to get my rental. I call ahead like they told me to. They can’t guarantee that the car I’ve reserved will be there on the day I reserved it for. I explain that I have a scheduled work commitment that I need to see out which is why I’m renting the vehicle. I needed to be where I was going by 11a on my rental day. They still can’t guarantee anything. I call the day before. They still have no answers. I was told I would get a call before the closed for an update or that I should call myself to check. Never got an update call. Instead, I got a phone call at about 11:30a on my scheduled rental day saying my car was available. Luckily, I had a plan B and met my work commitment deadline. I don’t blame the employees here, as they’re obviously under staffed and left to manage corporate mismanagement of this shortage issue. I blame the HUGE corporate operation for not having better organization and processes in place for this situation. I feel really bad for the employees at this location because they probably get reamed by customers every day. Use Enterprise if you can. They’re more reliable and actually have legit plans in action for this unique situation.
Great price, friendly, service-oriented staff. Everything about my experience was good, EXCEPT that my car stank of cigarette smoke for the whole 2 weeks I had it, because some previous renter had smoked in the vehicle. I am a non-smoker, and the smell bothered me a lot. I was told that smokers are charged a $400 fine for violating the non-smoking policy, and for bringing back a stinking car. For that amount of money, Hertz should scrub down the upholstery, the head liner, dashboard, floor mats, inside of the windows and windshield - i.e., have the car professionally detailed - and change the interior air filters before sending the car back out for another rental. Either that, or Hertz should have given me $200+ off my $700+ rental fee for having to sit in a stinking car for 2 weeks.P.S. Amber at Hertz reached out to me via Facebook IM after the above review and said they would consider my request for a refund on my rental. Approx. every 2 weeks I IMed her to ask for a progress report. She strung me with backlog excuses for 2 months, then stopped responding altogether. Because of their bad faith, I have reduced my evaluation of Hertz from 3 stars to 1 star.
Hertz ran out of cars and we could not pick up our reserved car for a one way to NYC. WES the Hertz rep went out of his way & kept in contact with us and managed to get us a car!! Our trip was saved! WES is a great personable employee. Thank you sir.

Unreal experience I had The worst experience in the Winchester Hertz went online as they advertise to rent a car once go online vehicle i picked was a midsize vehicle once you go to pick it up the vehicle they told me that car was up for Service proceeded to point the finger at the outside broker and that becomes their problem not mine it’s between store manager broker that is working the online rental like it was a customers issue . I would assume it’s something to work out between ownership the store management and the broker why is it become my problem?? if I would’ve known earlier I probably would’ve went to another car rental agency. I would choose another rental Agency. never come this hurts in Winchester VA ever again.😭👎🏼
I want to say thank you guys!! I have never rented from them before until now!! 1st i want to say @WES YOU ARE AWESOME!! My plan was to rent a car on the 22nd. They didnt have it available.(well they had suvs not compact) WES said if a compact is return he will let me know. Honestly i felt it was a lost cause hehe. Also the reason i didnt want the suv is because my discover card only had a 300 limit. Which i am upping asap and my credit card wouldnt of went through for the suv. Wes called me as soon as a car came back!! I was able to get done what i needed too!! Enterprise is now charging 300! For deposits. I feel it is great you guys still are 200. We as people ALWAYS give reviews when its a issue WE rarely do when it was a great experience and WE should start doing that!! I will be back!! Gos bless all!!
First time renting from this location and it definitely coulda gone a bit smoother but it wasnt the worst experience I have had renting a vehicle. We paid ahead of time to reserve a mid size suv and even called priceline to confirm as well as Hertz. We made sure everything was good to go and that there were no hidden costs we should expect. Being that I do not have a major credit card I even asked them numerous time both on Priceline and also when confirming with Hertz if we needed a major credit card and they assured us that we did not and we were good to go. Upon arriving we were told we need a major credit card on file or that we would have to put a $500 security deposit down and they could not rent us a mid size suv only a car. Luckily they had a car available however we still ended up paying for a midsize suv and they didnt adjust the price. Upon getting our key we were lectured on the full tank policy and that we were to return it with a full tank of gas the same way we were receiving it or we would be charged $10 per gallon. We started the car up and it barely had half a tank in it to begin with. We were told the vehicle had been inspected and there was no damage to it and the system noted that. We did a walk around and spotted considerable cosmetic damage and made sure to document it to avoid being held accountable for it once we returned it. The gentleman there was nice, friendly, the car was clean on the inside and we had a nice trip with an easy drop off the night before it was due to be returned. Our deposit was returned in a timely fashion too. Overall it was not a bad experience, just had a few bumps in the beginning.
This is a great place to rent a car. They saved us after our truck broke down. Rented a Nissan Roque, great a reliable little car.

I called yesterday about a car replacement when they opened up due to a flat tire ( had the donut on) and a long interstate drive ahead. He said they just opened up and didn’t know his inventory and would call back . Still waiting..... No excuse with caller Identification in this day and age, so much for customer service.
I used Hertz as a replacement for my car while it was getting work done after hitting a deer. State Farm paid for the rental. The car was nice. The customer service however was lacking majorly. Right out of college I worked at this same Hertz location. The service is not what I expected or delivered from a Hertz. The staffs appearance was disheveled. They were eating sausage gravy in the office during the rental experience. When answering questions about the rental they acted almost accusatory about how long I could keep the rental car. When I called about leaving the car at the body shop as the body shop instructed, they said ugh I guess thats fine. The customer service on the phone was poor. Overall, I dont leave this review to be mean or get anyone in trouble. It was just dissapointing after working for Hertz and having them jumpstart my professional career to see employees care so little. I talked about this company to my wife as a company I was proud to have worked for. They didnt deliver.
Manager picked me up right at cut off time, thank goodness! check out was fast and person that I finished with was courteous. The car is new and clean so great chance to see what new cars have in store too.

Only reason not a 5- car had mechanical issues. At one point considered taking it to a local Hertz where we were visiting and trading it out. When driving would loose speed/start slowing down while gas pedal still being pushed and tachometer would shoot up. Made associate aware when returned and was told it would be checked.Otherwise everything was great. Service at pick up and return, car was clean, no damages, etc
I made a reservation for a car for an upcoming trip. When ready to pick up, they doubled the price because the wrong vehicle class was quoted during booking. Total incompetence here.

We had super customer service. They went out of their way to be sure we were pleased. They took time to assist me in completing my Hertz Plus account as to sending me on my way to complete it later. When returning the car we were asked if there was anything they could have done to make our rental better. I will be back for sure.

Not pleased at all with this location. We rented a car 2 times within a few weeks and both times they opened late. At least 10-15 minutes late. Which was inconvenient because we had to to pick up when they opened to be able to make it to work on time. The last time we were there they called us the night before and told us right before they closed that we may not have a car in the morning. Definitely could use some improvement.
Slow. Staff wasnt friendly. But the manager did hustle and make up for my bad experience.

I had a reservation, and although they acknowledged that reservation, they didnt have any cars left. Utterly useless.
Not the local agents fault,However not being told that the drop off location and all locations within 100 miles close at noon on a Saturday is not good. Hertz then charged us for two more days rental even though their car was on their lot by 2pm.
Have been a regular renter from this location for 3+ years. Kendall (the GM) is amazing and her staff will take care of you.

I prepaid for my car and when I got there I was turned down. They said it was bc I used my Visa debit card. Funny thing is when i called corporate office they said if i went in a branch i could get a car using the same card.
