I brought them a very ill, starving dog to save. They took him in gladly and started addressing his needs immediately. Max and Della have devoted their lives to saving dogs. The world needs more people like them.
The people here are amazing. The dogs are treated so well. We unfortunately had to surrender our baby due to having a newborn and being too big and hyper for our toddler. I know he will be taken care of. Thank you for all that you do
Max has a real passion for the animals. Im on disability and rescued a box mix. He helped me cut her nails and give me a couple months of heart worn and flea prevention. If want for his kindness and love for animals my dog wouldnt beas healthy. Thanks Max Larry high your cabinet man
To think i didnt really know to much about it and almost to the poor dog to the sheriffs dog pound (where she would have met a untimely ending because she had a small look of a bull dog pitbull) but luckily for me and her we found for the love of dogs! Very nice place and well equipped and just everything about it left me happy and 🐶 happy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
They are the best by far in this whole area. The vet there is the best Ive ever experienced, and Max and Della work harder than anyone I know. They bend over backwards to make accommodations for people, and their animals, we would not trust our animals to the care of any other place or vet like we do with them. We have been doing business with them for over 2 yrs and we have taken many animals to them, and they have all gotten the best care at the most reasonable prices you will find. I can not say enough great things about For the Love of Dogs. As long as they are there, they will be our go to vet for any other animals in our care, which includes those who have been abandoned, abused, neglected and forgotten ones in the shelters cats and dogs. God bless them, for all they do.
My father passed away in May and my family and I have been trying to get the dogs out of the house. All of our efforts have failed and the house sold and they have to be out of the house. When I called and explained this the man Max he was rude and demanded money to take them and then told me they would be dead by the weekend if they went to the pound. If I could give 0 stars I would.
They took in my puppy after my landlord said I couldnt keep my dog. Della and Max and their staff are very very nice. Kind and they love the dogs there. And I like that they wont let anyone adopt a dog without a fenced in yard
Very polite and good with animals a very nice human being I know I made the right choice
Its amazing what these people do for the homeless, and neglected pups. They are really here for, THE LOVE OF DOGS, and thats a beautiful thing. People should understand that it is difficult enough having a full house and still they take the time to hear your story. If you are seeking help I recommend you come having a clear point of why you are bringing the dog to them so they can understand the needs of the dog. A lot of people do not understand the stress of having to see some awful things that have happened to these dogs. These people are the sweetest and most compassionate people.
Owners have a heart of gold. Very strict adoption policies in place and for very good reason.
They wanted me to pay them to take my dog
Just a few days ago my brother and I owned a pit bull mixed with a lab, very loving dog. Had him about two years and the new apartment my brother just moved in didn’t allow dogs. So he panicked not knowing I could have dogs at my place. He heard from different people that they were a good place and you could get your dog back. When I called and explained the mistake the lady told me just bring paperwork and you could get him so I did and a man shows up to the gate on a mower saying pay $50 you can get him back. Ending with saying “he’s a very loving dog” which we know.!!! The next morning the man call and say we can’t get him back. Long story short they won’t let us get our dog ROCKY BACK.!!
I recently found an elderly dog that had been abandoned in a rural church parking lot. Not being able to keep her, I reached out to countless rescues. Most never responded and the ones that did could not take her. One call to FLOD, and Max didnt hesitate. He met us at our vehicle and immediately greeted the dog. He seems to be very honest and transparent. The facility is very nice and well kept. I know in my heart that is unwanted elderly dog is in the best hands. I can honestly tell that Max and Della truly care. I cannot imagine the magnitude of what they do, and how exhausting this work has got to be. They will be blessed richly for the love and care they provide to these animals who so desperately need help.
Amazing place. Everyone there is so loving and compassionate. They did everything possible to help me save my sweet boy. However after a few weeks there was nothing else that could be done due to his age. I have never felt more love and compassion from all of them. I see comments about Mr.Max or Ms. Della really people? They both love not only the animals but also the people. Im do thankful for all they do.
This man does not care about HUMANE treatment. He cares only about his reputation. I have NEVER had a good experience with his rescue. He has repeatedly attempted to practice veterinary medicine on his own, and has killed many animals due to his lack of actual education. Do NOT use this rescue.
I took a friends dog for him since he couldnt due to work hours. She had had several surgeries and required phenobarbital for seizures. They went above and beyond since I hadnt inquired their days and hours of operation to accommodate me when I called. The medicine from them was at least $50 cheaper than the vets office. Very satisfied with the service I received!
Have animals but process to adopt is too drawn out. Theyll have hurry on animal and you still have to wait with possibly losing out on the animal being put down 😭
They really love your animals. It’s a crazy and hectic place when dropping off, but understand they have a vet one day a week and are trying to take care of everyone the best they can. Be patient and they will take good care of you.The owners here Max and Della are the nicest people. The vet recommended some additional medication for our pup and they met us there on a Sunday afternoon to be sure our pup wasn’t in any unnecessary pain. Thanks so much for all you all do to take such good care of so many.
Good hearted people! Truly love animals and doing a good work for our community.
I found a puppy on the side of the road 6 days ago ...... having another dog thats not really other dog friendly is not an option . Plus we are moving and dont have time nor space for an additional animal. Ive called, left messages, even went by the compound and N O B O D Y was around or available and no one has returned a call or email .....kinda like the Maggie society ..... I guess it shows its probably better off to let the strays run, theyll have a better chance than they will at the pound because 72 hrs later .......... for the love of dogs ..... pfffft it shows
I have been a longtime admirer of this organization. Max and Della Fitz-Gerald and their tireless advocacy for the humane treatment of animals has been an inspiration for me and so many others. My family and I adopted our dog, Rambo, from For the Love of Dogs over a decade ago. Rambo passed away in November, but he left his sweet paw prints on our hearts and I will always be grateful to Max and Della for helping bring us together. They also assisted my family when I brought in a puppy who had been hit by a car several years ago. Their excellent and AFFORDABLE care enabled that little puppy to go on and live a healthy life - after an unsuccessful ad in the paper to attempt to locate the owners, we kept her and her name is Olive.I must say that I am disappointed to see the negative feedback that has been so brazenly thrown into reviews here. Do you expect a red carpet and free champagne when you visit a no-kill shelter run solely by volunteers and donations? Im glad those of you complaining it smelled like urine and it was so loud refrained from adopting. Youre the kind of pet owners who end up needing to rehome their dog after realizing that dogs arent just toys. My sweet Olive peed all over the place when we dropped her off at their clinic - injured dogs and puppies tend to do that. Dog lovers tend to sigh and smile lovingly before cleaning up the mess and continuing to tend to the pup.The costs of running this facility are great, and with no assistance from local government, For the Love of Dogs is a well-oiled machine dedicated to championing animals and promoting responsible ownership and affordable services.
Having been a long time volunteer there, I can say they are OVER FULL and have more dogs than they can give the proper time and care to. I would STRONGLY STRONGLY discourage anyone to surrender their dogs to them. Dogs die there due to dog fights, and inadequate medical care. Please PLEASE do not take your animal there.
You can tell they love animals, pricing is very affordable. They are not going to serve you a warm cup of cappuccino but thats fine by me. This is the best vet in the area for sure.
This is an awesome organization. They worked with me when I found a sick dog in a parking lot. Their organization treated her for various aliments, and when I went to adopt her she was a new dog. Max and Della are very nice and accommodating.
Its called For the Love of Dogs not For the Love of people. If you are looking for great care for your dog, this is the place. If youre looking to be pampered yourself, go somewhere else. These people are wonderful for doing what they do. I dont give a rats ass how rude the owner may be. He is what he is. I respect this man for doing what he does.
I am so thankful for this place. It can get a little hectic. Make no mistake, Max is awesome. I have been there several times. I have had to recover my little girl from there. This is one of the best things in Wilson.
I had a great experience when needing to spay my pup and getting a a vet to see her incision as a follow up to ensure everything was okay. I heard from a military spouse that they are currently out of business as their veterinarian retired. Im not sure how accurate that is so I would call them to find out!
Max and Della are not the vets there -- they pay vets to come in and offer services plus they work tirelessly to help dogs that would otherwise perish. Still they continue to reach out to the community offering amazing prices for vet procedures and adoptions so that people can give their pets excellent care without spending more than they possibly can afford. If you feel that Max is grumpy at times, then walk a mile in his shoes. The responsibly he and Della carry is more than most of us could imagine. They work constantly and still open their hearts to anyone needing help. I am in awe of all the wonderful things they do and all I can say about FOR LOVE OF DOGS is THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!!
Theyre good people trying their best to help and rescue dogs. Spaying/Neutering your pet at their facility would mean a lot to them, youre not only saving your dog/cat but youre also helping the rescued dogs in their facility.I spayed my cat for only $50, this includes pain medication for 4 days. My cat licked and opened a little bit of her incision, I brought her back in their clinic at no extra cost. The Vet is only available every Wednesday, so you need to call and set up for an appointment (Spay/Neuter). Plus, dont forget to buy the cone of shame, these will prevent future trips to Vet.
Two Rottweilers at this facility just mauled a child and the facility states in the news that it will continue to house these dangerous dogs away from volunteers. Meaning the dogs will rot the rest of their lives away in confinement while still posing a threat to staff. No-kill shelters like this one are nothing but glorified animal hoarders. A humane euthanasia injection for these two maulers would be far kinder to all involved. What ever happened to common sense??
Wonderful place and wonderful people!
They really love dogs and care about helping them.
Called in after I had a semi-ok experience with them the first time around. I figured they were busy and thats why everyone there was rude and my Harley was not taken good care of. I asked what age my rescue needed to be to get neutered. The owner Max, proceeded to ask me who I went to to get his shots then when I told him he said well why dont you just go there then. Extremely rude and condescending man, and I had heard form several other people that if he feels like you are a bad person he will go and take your pet from your home and he does not care if it is illegal. Will NEVER go here again. And I will do anything and everything I can to let people know how this man is.UPDATE: they had 2 Rottweilers attack a staff member and her young son and the child almost died. They then showed their true colors by advocating on the dogs behalf rather than those who were injured. They took the dogs back to the facility and were supposed to keep them confined-but they did not. The dogs were let out of their enclosure again a few months later and attacked another person. And all these reviews saying the couple who owns this place are great-be aware they are family members or long time friends of the family being directed to do so. The real reviews they try to cover up with positive ones once they have bad press.
Great place - great people - big hearts and making a serious difference. Sincere passion for dogs. Highly recommended.
I love the 2 the run this ! Max and his wife both ate dedicated to all the animals . Thankful o had the chance to meet with them. They helped my family in so many ways. Thanks again you guys rocl
Already upset because my cat has been injured, call to inquire best place to assist cat. They may love dogs but have never been talked to so rudely in my life!!!! This place is by far the most unprofessional and uncaring place I have contacted. If you truly are interested in rehoming pets you need people skills- no people=no homes for pets!
I found a dog on the side of road in a ditch. I was searching for rescues because her back leg was hurt, I couldnt leave her there to die or get hit by car, but we cannot financially afford the extensive vet care she would need. I found this rescue and called and he interrupted me mid sentence and said take her to a vet, we dont have a vet until Wednesday. They were no help at all and seem cold to be an animal rescue.
Took all of my female cat there. I ve never had a bad dealing with them. I think its a good place for me anyway, thanks so much
Always willing to lend a hand any way, shape or form to help those furbabies in need. I am forever grateful for Max and Fella and their volunteer team!
Awesome people doing great services for the animals they treat! They really care about the animals and have affordable prices.
I brought my puppy here for shots. The Vet was very nice to us. Will be going back.
They are very nice and concern about you animal they will help you if they can 8f not they will finger something out to help you i love it that their are people whose still care about animals and its not all about money they have people whoWork their and they volunteer thats how much they love animals
Greatest people ever and I they your fur family as their first interest
Wonder loving people! They put the animals first. Thats what they are supposed to do!
They did a great job with my dog and handled it very fast!
I’m giving 2 stars and it’s only for the help they do in their no kill shelter. Their clinic is not clean and the Veterinarian told me he’s too busy to read charts and that’s why the service (simple tooth extraction) I paid for was not performed. I now have to pay another office to remove the tooth. The vet there tried to tell me he didn’t need it removed, but two other vets now have confirmed that he does. My CKC Spaniel is also very ill from his visit there. Bailey had to be rushed to the emergency room. He has blood in his stool, coughing, hasn’t eaten in two days, and is very lethargic. He’s now got a pocket of fluid in him, a shot, and antibiotics. Bailey will have to return to the emergency room if he goes without eating another day. The people there mean well, but it’s not a place to ever take your personal loved pet. They don’t read medical charts, the front desk doesn’t communicate with the Vet to explain the care needed, they see about 10 dogs an hour and overall not a safe environment. If you find a stray dog, take it there if they have room. It’s great they don’t kill them, but this is not a place to take your family pet for care. They’re too busy to be clean and give the proper care in those conditions. I hope not to offend, but I’m now out $300 because of their mistakes and I still have to take him to the vet again for his tooth extraction. I should have just paid Bansfield the $400 they wanted to extract it. It would have actually cost me less than what this did. My advice is to visit the place you are taking your family pet prior to making their appointment. I will never make that mistake again. My dog is too important to lose over a simple office visit.
They were rude and I choose not to do business with them
This place has no business operating a rescue. To knowingly let 2 Rottweilers that were surrendered due to aggression out with 2 kids and the dogs attacked an autistic innocent child still be in the rescue and possibly placed for adoption is reckless and dangerous. When will it take a child losing their life? Shame on you! As a mother who had her son attacked by dogs I will make sure you get held accountable for your negligence in your poorly run rescue. Sincerely Brittany Wells
I called this agency to try to place 4 beagles who we can no longer care for due to health issues. The owner was very shockingly rude t me. He yelled at me serveral times and told meto shut up and listen. He said big deal about your health..me and my wife are on the way to the doctor. He also said that he has over 100 stupid dogs to care fot and cant take anymore. I think that this agency should be investigated to determine the conditions there. It is alarming to think that such an angry person is in charge of helpless dogs. This person was very angry and yelled the entire time that we were on the phone. He complained about his lack of funds to care for the animals. I ended the call very disturbed. I hope that local authories will look into this agency.....
I would rate this place zero stars if I had the chance. Ive called up there twice, once because my dog went missing, the guy told me that I better start looking in ditches. The second time, I called to see how much their heartworm treatment would be, since my Chloe has been diagnosed with them. He told me if I didnt get her treated, shes gonna die. He also called me a liar when he suggested I went to another place and I told them their price, which the price was basically around the same amount. Im never taking my animals there. No matter how much of a dog lover they are, that guy is rude, and disrespectful. Either this place needs to be shut down, or hes got to go, because nobody needs to put their beloved animals in the care of this man
This place is very nice and the vet she was really good they take care of dogs and cats even though the dont charged alot for taking care of the dogs there much better the going to a regular vet place
This place us a great place for people who is looking a dog that has been recured from fights and is healing and needs your help! I been there and i came and can see that the people are very kind and loves their job! Im gonna get a dog from there again!
I called asking about taking my dog and he was rude as hell and straight up told me just stop talking and was talking down at me. I will NEVER recommend For The Love Of Dogs
Great prices and the owners take great care of your pets.
They do awesome work for the animals of our community
This is literally the worst decision I have made. 1st- The place is very confusing to get to. 2nd- It is a mad house, people and animals everywhere, the staff is very friendly but obviously so stressed. 3rd- All you can smell is urine, it hits you in the face as soon as you open the door. 4th- I was being asked tons of questions from this very rude old man, who looked like a dog owner and not at all like a Vet. 5th- I made an appointment the week before for my dog to be seen and, after driving an hour away because I heard they are very affordable, the very rude old man tells me Sorry, we have 49 dogs back there who have to be seen today, you have to come back next Wednesday. I had an appointment and he did not care and said that they have people driving from 3 hours away to see them. I cant say enough I HAD AN APPOINTMENT! I have never in my life been turned away and told to come back when I had a appointment. I feel very bad for the nice ladies in the office for having to deal with that crude old man on a daily basis. I will definitely take my dog somewhere else, and that was what that mean old man told me to do when I was upset about having to come back next week. Go somewhere else if you dont like it, he said. Well, I WILL. I would rather spend triple the price for a real vet office who will keep my appointments. THANK YOU FOR WASTING MY TIME AND GAS. I will never be back.
If I could post a review without any type of star I would. My friends son was.attacked there, unprovoked, by two rottweilers. She covered him with her own body, enduring bites herself from these dogs. This rescue fought more to get the dogs returned to them and has shown no signs of care or concern over the injuries that they both suffered. Seriously? Who releases two large rottweilers into a fenced in area and doesnt try to protect a small boy? Standing back and yelling does nothing!! However to place the dogs, who attacked two human beings, over the life of humans is absolutely absurd. Its situations like this that really upset me.
Super people. ..they have helped me soooo much with my rescue work....they are truly a god send
The proprietor helped me with suggestions (for myself)and enabled me to keep my dog!
Please dont take your dog here. The owner seems like he hates the place, is very rude and yells. Seems like he thinking twice of why he opened the place. Seems like you have to spay or neuter your dog i didnt want to nd he got mad. He thinks every dog you take in there he has the authouritie to fo whatever he wants to it. I have 6 dogs and i would never take one there again.
Wnderful people to help so many in the community and surrounding areas. ♡
They are all about the pet and this is all you can really ask for when needing vet help. Fitzgerald is a grump butt, but for the care and prices they give I can over look it.
Great love for the animals
Worst place ever so disrespectful
Good place
Caring people
The man followed me home the day I got my dog and now shes been gone for about a year and when she went missing there was no sign of her anywhere
Great people
Amazin
Great vet
Among other things
