I was very impressed by the quality of all the staff there from the guys that push beds around to the fine daily unit staff and night nurses and the excellent psychiatrists. The meds they put me on really helped me and I am still taking most of them at home. I highly recommend the mental health program here.

I asked them if they had any beds open for mental health services and she said she cannot give that information away which is a lie because I’ve called plenty of places and asked. She said I have to drive up here and ask the people in the emergency room New Hanover County is an hour away I cannot drive all the way up there just to be told no.

Was treated condescendingly by my doctor as Im 19; he claimed I was too young to make my own health decisions when I had admitted myself voluntarily, laughed in my face when I pointed out that I was a legal adult, and repeatedly tried to keep me there longer when I and my father felt I was ready to go home. Repeatedly had people I had NOT consented to being part of my treatment plan contacted and given more information about my treatment and discharge plan than I myself!! While I do feel better after my brief stay here, I would not want to return to this facility; for a place that boasts group therapy, they sure were far and few. Perhaps 1 group every 6 hours and after that it was twiddling your thumbs until meal time or the next group.

They did not help our 18 year old son and let him leave without notifying us! So he immediately got in trouble with the law. 😰

My dad was here recently. They told me that they were searching for an assisted living facility for him and would call me when they found one. I came home to find a bag of his medications on my front porch and him sitting on my back porch for God knows how long in the cold. He said they put him in an Uber and gave them my address. Now the social worker, as sweet as she was, is not answering or returning my calls.

Enjoyed the staff and treatment received. Everyone must go in with an open mind and take advantage of every opportunity BHH has to offer. They cant cure you, they can only provide you with the coping skill and tools you need as an individual to help yourself. Once obtained, the rest is up to you.

I had a loved one here twice. They received excellent care. I would highly recommend New Hanover Behavioral Health.

Awful hospital. Doctors were constantly condescending to me and didn’t listen to me when I said I felt better. Let out a man that was threatening his girlfriend over the phone but wouldn’t let out a college student who had exams. They take advantage of insurance and try to keep you there as long as your insurance will let you.

My experience there was around two years ago, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.I got admitted for suicidal thoughts; I couldnt take it. I went to Moore County Hospital and we waited for any place to open up. This, sadly was the only place that opened up.I went in, no self-harm or anything, being told that I didnt belong there because I didnt self harm. Then they tried to put me on extra pills without me knowing. If you didnt eat, you risked staying there longer. They only wanted you to miss home. You got to talk to your family twice a week and it was for maybe five minutes.Im sorry, I thought we were helping people with mental health issues, not throwing them in a prison. There were days all I did was cry because this place locks you from the outside world.

Erroneously admitted against my will. On my first visit with the house psychiatrist, he said I didnt belong there, but I had to do the time anyway. Left in worse shape than when I went in. They obviously admitted me for my insurance money. My roommate in there who had no insurance, said he was refused admittance even though he said he was suicidal. He had to go to the police and they helped him get admitted.Theyre just after insurance money.

Punished further for being depressed and scared. They lock you in and strip you of what little you have left. They wont allow smoking which is a trigger for most patients. They come in at 5 am to draw blood when most of us had just fallen asleep. They keep you longer if you refuse meds food or group meetings. Most of the staff is too young and inexperienced with real disabilities. They can be vengful and rude, delaying needs or meds. They act like your invading their space and treat you with little regard. They spend most their time covering their own asses neglecting real needs. Very limited outside time. Super unhealthy. In appropriate staff conversations sexual misconduct. I was touched while sleeping by a male nurse. I filed a complaint. Nothing happened. Ive been there 29 different times. No consistentcy. No doctors or programs on weekends. They dont care if we sit two extra days so they can have a break. Our disorders dont give us a break. Plus a 3-5 day normal stay costs you at least 10,000$. Oh and if you get on the nurses bad side which is easy they will make your stay hell. Then kiss your butt when its time for you to be discharged. You have to fill out a survey which they have access to. So they can monitor your complaints and filter out the bad. Its a horrible place. Its supposed to be a place of healing. They strip you of your rights and what dignity you have left. If you stand up you lose. Wake up!!! this needs to change. They throw insane amounts of meds your way, and say lets see what happens. Turns out I was on several that dont respond to me. I have ticks now. You become a FDA forced lab rat. They bill your insurance till it wont pay anymore then kick you to the curb. I dont have a safe place to go when I really need help anymore.

All the doctors do is throw on a ton of random medications in hopes they work. They got me confused with someone else so I was made to take meds that werent even for me. The sad thing is.. the person the doctor confused me with was doing pretty good and he had to stay twice as long as me. The only reason I was even accepted here is because of great insurance. This is a horrible facility and walter b jones blows it away even though they are lacking in funds and short staffed! I left worse than when I entered! I am trying to figure out a way to start a lawsuit at this point. Its been more than a few months but I have all the evidence to back up my claims.

Groups were helpful staa was courteous pleasant but not as professional. Families are not treated with the level of respect they deserve. Patients are shipped out whether they are still facing issues. Drs are not stepping and conducting one on one as they should prior to prescribing meds that do more harm than good in the long run if they do not take the time to make fsmily members a part of the treatment plan. Furthermore the system in the US is broken therefore professionals in the field are really not able to perform at the capacity necessary to provide quality service!
