I am not the best at writing reviews, but I will do my best. During the pandemic, I started going through my poems and also wrote some more poems and decided that I wanted to make a poetry book. My initial plan wasnt to hire an editor because I felt like I couldnt financially afford one, and I was very critical of my poetry, believing that it was bad and no one would want to read them. Back in February, I posted a recording of one of my students doing a spoken word poem in a poetry group on Facebook. Immediately, Kallie commented - this girl is the future, let’s help her publish a book, Tell Tell will do it pro bono. (That was Amazing Thing By Tell Tell #1.) My student didn’t finish her poems til early June, at which point I reached out to Kallie & asked if her offer was still on the table. She said of course! & we so we got started. My student & I were difficult clients, to be sure. My job was to be a liaison for my student, basically, but I was clueless as to how book publishing worked. Kallie was exceptionally patient & walked us through the whole process, step by step, answering all my questions with, again - SUCH patience, truly - even when they were, um, very dumb questions. (Amazing Thing By Tell Tell #2.) Kallie was so prompt in answering my emails. I never had to wait more than an hour for a response. Heck, more often than not she responded within minutes. (Amazing a Thing By Tell Tell #3.) When we got the manuscript draft to her, she gave us an estimated time frame for expecting the designer to get back to us with a copy for review. They did an amazing job making her vision come to life, they gave her several options & were happy to make the adjustments she wanted. (Amazing Thing By Tell Tell #5.) There were complications with getting payment set up bc my student is a minor & encouraging her to find someone to help her set up a bank account was tricky. My ideas were falling flat & I was at a loss as to what to do; so Kallie gave me advice, complete with resources that she took the time of own accord to find for us. (Amazing Thing By Tell Tell #6.) Long story short - my student had her book in her hands by the July 4th weekend. (Amazing Thing By Tell Tell #7.) The Tell Tell team did all this out of the collective goodness of their hearts, giving confidence & validation & A REAL LIVE FREAKING PUBLISHED BOOK to a young teenager without the means to make it happen otherwise. (Amazing Thing By Tell Tell #8.) I could go on, but I’m not sure people read reviews this long. In any case - TLDR: I could not recommend working with Kallie & Tell Tell Poetry more. 1000% recommend. I’d give them ten stars if it were an option. I was so impressed with them & inspired by this experience that I’m excited to publish my own poetry book through them one day.
