Best kept secret in the triangle! No waves, not crowded, super cheap and the sand is so soft. They even have real bathrooms close by that were clean. You can walk out 100 ft and only be at waist height. On the weekends they even have a little shack that sells food and ice cream. My kids loved the beach and we loved that it was local.
Such a beautiful place for a walk and a picnic. There is lots of green space and plenty of room to enjoy yourself. There is a really nice sandy beachfront along the river, a great place to bring your dog to play along the shoreline. Additionally, of youre bringing a picnic, there are lots of tables that are significantly spaced apart. The scenery is really nice and its quite peaceful.
Beautiful at sunset and barely any waves. The only time theres slight waves is if boats come close a lot. Its safe for even small children to get in the water while you are close by. Only fault was sand was a bit hard on shore. But baby soft in the water. People also leave trash that gets washed into the water. Pulled out a lot of straws and plastic when we went.
I love this beach especially after Labor Day and the crowds are gone. On my recent visit I was one of maybe ten folks at the beach. As I sat in a chair at the waters edge a beautiful bald eagle flew overhead....so beautiful!!
What a fun place for the family! If youre visiting Williamsburg and want to go to the beach, but dont want to drive an hour to VA beach, there are several beaches on the James river. Jamestown beach is small, but nice, with a good number of shade trees. The water is a bit murky but totally swimmable, and great for kids as you can walk out hundreds of yards and still touch bottom. They have kayak rental and a small snack bar, both currently open. We had a good time!
Always a great time here at this location. Fourth of July fun with family... came in the afternoon, still able to find space. If youre a local have i.d. ready. If not, have money ready for parking and anything else required. Beach area clean and no garbage in water. This is a quick get away to dip in and out.
Can get a bit crowded on the far side of the beach at times, but the water is nice and shallow, great for kids and non-swimmers. I enjoyed the closer side of the beach more as there was more space and the water seemed a bit deeper/cleaner. Prefer it to Yorktown beach when there tend to be more Jellyfish in the water at times.
Fairly warm water and very nice sand. Beautiful place! Wouldve loved to stay longer, but we just stopped by to take a look.
Love it here...on good days.If youre coming just to hang out on the beach area and swim, youll enjoy it.Grilling out is where its hit or miss as far as the enjoyment factor goes. They have 2 different areas with grills and tables. One is out in the open and the other is in a wooded shaded area. Obviously during hot Summer months youd prefer the shaded area to grill instead of being In the dead sun. So with that said, I hate when you go and try to grill out in the shaded area and every single table is occupied by people that are just hanging out and getting drunk and not even grilling. This makes it difficult for people who need table space to lay some things out and be able to grill out easily. There is plenty of room in this shaded area for people to bring their own beach/camping chairs if theyd like to just sit and hang out. We have respect for others to not hog up and occupy a table for hours on end knowing other people who grill out need this room temporarily. I wish more people had the courteousy we did.
I love this beach but It can get quite crowded. Nice restroom facility and snack area. Bring a grill and cook your own food too.
Very clean and well maintained beach. Visited in off-season and was a great spot for kids to watch boats and birds.
Excellent park, excellent staff (like all James City Parks). We especially enjoy the dog park area. Keep up the great work JCC!
Beautiful, relaxing, clean...this is a hidden gem. Ive lived in VA for 10+ years and visited here four the first time this week. We had 9nm with us and enjoyed every minute of it. The water was calm and shallow which made our experience a pleasant one. This is now our go to beach for my crew!
Beautiful quiet beach! One of my favorite places! The water is beautifully warm. Plenty of space to go for a swim and rest. Perfect for kids, has plenty places with shallow water. Always very clean! There are picnic areas, grills, bathrooms with free sunscreen. You can buy ice cream, hotdogs and burgers. You can bring your dog. You can rent a kayak. You can watch gorgeous sunsets. Open: 8 am to after the sunset (the employees will usually warn you 30 minutes before close). Parking is free if you are a Jamestown country resident, otherwise it’s $7. But if you come in the evening, they won’t charge you.
Great for families with small kids. Bathrooms, snack bar; almost zero waves and super shallow. Plenty of green space, grills, and tables. It is a little bit of a walk from the parking lot, so make sure to bring a wagon, beach cart, etc. was comfortable bringing my 5 and 6 year old solo. Well definitely visit again.
I came here before opening at 8am to try to beat the crowds that people said gather. I was able to get in at 8am when the gate attendant arrived and she was extremely kind and gave me instructions on how to re-enter the park if I needed/wanted to get lunch off site. The entrance fee was $4 for an out of stater like myself, but free fire residents of the county I believe. They have on site bathrooms and even rent kayaks at some of the most affordable rates Ive ever seen @$15/for out of state and $10/hr for county residents. I found a nice patch of beach covered by shade trees and made myself at home as I was the only person on this section of beach at that point. Around the two hour mark more people started showing up and it wasnt nearly as relaxing with children screaming and running around, but that is to be expected hence why I came early. Overall a great place to have visited and the entrance fee was nice and cheap considering most of the VA parks Ive visited have $10 minimum entrance fees.
This is our favorite beach! It isnt usually very busy and has a few sections of beach. The water is pretty shallow quite a ways out. It is perfect for kids and to float around. There are bathrooms and in the summer there is a snack bar.
Perfect place right off the ferry for an Indiana traveler like me. May even be my first ever true beach experience (this is the ocean, right?). I was hoping for something more real food-y than just ice cream, but - on the other hand- they did sell me the best ice cream sandwich Ive ever had, so Ill decibel call it even. Please enjoy.
Very family friendly beach with calm waters for the little kids and relaxing for the adults to enjoy without the worries of strong currents bothering the kids playing in the waters
It was very enjoyable, Nice beach areas and area with stationary grills where you can grill your food but get there early if you want to get a location with shaded tree area if not youll be out in the open with the sun and youll need to bring your own cover, they allow charcoal as well as propane grills.
The employees were all patient, accommodating and spectacular! Civil servants truly do not get the appreciation and recognition as they should! So thank you to everyone that makes this special spot a safe and enjoyable place to rest and partake in the simplicity of life!
Love this beach. Clean water, friendly people & they allow dogs. Our dog swam for a while & other dogs were there, too. All were very behaved & having fun. We will go again.
Loved it!! People were playing in the water with all kinds of floats and kayaking. It was a great picnic area in the shade
This was our first time here- on Memorial Day Weekend! It was clean, not crowded, and an overall nice little beach!
Saw the Deloreans here at Jamestown Jams and that was a total blast. It was a hundred million degrees in the shade but the band gave it their all. Thank goodness for the sno cone food truck. Actually, all the food trucks. Actually, thank you James City County (or is it Williamsburg?) for putting on a quality performance, at a quintessential location, for free. Hats off.
Love this little beach. Had a picnic lunch in the shade and NO JELLYFISH in the river
Beautiful Quaint, family oriented beach, concession stand great for kids. Showers outside to rinse off, and short walk to the beach! Great place. Ill be coming with my family often❤️
Me and my friend we bought some fried crabs here and set down on the picnic tables and wash the tide come in it was wonderful ..... loved it
Fantastic venue. Adjacent to the Jamestown settlement and museum facilities.Beautifully maintained, easy access and overall a great time.Enjoy a relaxing break from touring the museum and settlement areas. Definitely worth the visit. Enjoyed watching the boats sailing by and the tranquility of it all.
Very clean park/beach! Great for younger children since water is shallow with minimal if any waves. Dogs are allowed on the beach, but must be on a leash at all times.
Depending on where you park you are at least 50 yards from car to beach. Rough for the disabled. Very nice beach. Just takes a walk to get there.
Great place for kids. Not too busy. Dogs are allowed and water is shallow. Live coming here.
So of course Im not giving this five stars because its the most amazing beach in the world. But, its a clean beach, very family friendly when my wife and I were there with our two very young children, and -- probably most important for our purposes -- just a hop skip and a jump from the center of Williamsburg. Plenty of parking -- sometimes free, sometimes up to about $7 (such as during Memorial weekend). No jellyfish that we saw and virtually no waves, so great for toddlers. Clean restroom facilities onsite, as well as a concession stand.
Great for a cool off in hot weather. There is no lifeguard and clear signage to swim at your own risk. Water was calm today. I had a couple 10yr olds that were able to stand a ways out. Nice parking close to beach.
Great place to hang with family or/and friends! Bring your dog!
A little mucky but was great to have the shade with picnic tables.
Great place to wade out into to water for 200 yards and still not be over your head. Modest charge per car.
Very nice place. Just wish other visitors could take their own trash home.
Small and private beach. Really good place to lay out and tan since it’s not crowded
Clean, private and very relaxing beach, my only regret is I didnt bring my fishing gear. Nice place for a romantic retreat. My wife and I visit colonial Williamsburg once a month for our mini vacation and spend most days at this beach.
I have only been twice but love it. The water is great for young kids as it is shallow and no waves to knock them down. Very clean restrooms.
Very clean an peaceful, definitely a great place to just relax an enjoy the water. Kid an pet friendly
Perfect for a picnic day. sun and water 😉
A nice area for an afternoon with the family. Swimming, canoeing, and they have a consession stand for refreshments. A picnic is also available under the trees for shade.
Plenty of clean picnic tables. Staff was present and helpful when asked questions.Womens restroom ran out of toilet paper, maybe staff could check more often on holidays.Lovely park that is off the beaten path without the noisy crowds. Some tables near the water are under shade trees. Kayak rentals as well. Pier closed due to Covid
Nice place to have a picnic, find some shells and get in the water.
Nice. Had picnic areas, bathrooms, showers heads to rinse off, you can rent kayaks, grills at the picnic areas to grill.
Family fun and great staff. My grandkids did a school project and the staff was great to help. Wonderful learning experience with fun for whole family
Scenic areas however need some restrictions on animals in common areas as some people have allergies also need more restrooms and shower areas. NOT handicapped accessible beyond the parking lot which was a total disappointment.
Nice clean beach and very animal and kid friendly 👌👍😎
It was a very nice beach experience and the water wasnt to deep you could still walk through the water for a ways out and it was a beautiful view of nature with the trees surrounding the parking area if I could give it a 10 I would
Kinda busy and crowded but it was a holiday other than that pretty cool
The most clean beach, Ive ever been to. Spacious also, our little one had so much fun just running.
I will go again. Nice to park and beach in one place.
Nice place to go beside long drive to Virginia Beach ⛱. Nice clean and very close to Williamburg Vacation village 👌
Fun place for the whole family!! Nice beach to walk on an alot of nature! But dont go during tourist season!! Its a mess then..
Fun day on the river bathroom and concessions available plus picnic and grill options
Ive been living here for 5 years and just discovered this place! Very cute beach, shallow waters.
