This morning I called over about my membership fee and the girl who answered the phone was very rude. She stated that she was a manager and continued to be rude, and when I asked for her name she refused to give it to me stating she gave it to me at the beginning of the call. Rather she provided it at the beginning of the call or not being a manager she should not have been rude and more helpful than anything. If this is the type of management you have working here. I def do not want the membership.
Love love LOVE this gym! The staff is so nice and friendly! I always see Megan when I go in and she always greets me so warmly. I was going in the mornings for awhile and Craig & Jasmine were always so helpful and always cleaning as well. Which is really nice due to covid right now. Gym is CLEAN and FRIENDLY and they truly are a judgment free zone. I feel so comfortable here! Thanks Planet Fitness West Des Moines!
This location recently upgraded all their cardio machines. The new style of the elliptical machine is terrible for someone starting their weightless journey. If youre heavier 250+ depending on your body type i.e wider hipped female you may feel uncomfortable while using this machine. I recently tried it out and my my outer hips rubbed the sides of the bars the whole time. My only other complaint is Ive been sent to tan several times in a lay down and the bed has not been cleaned. They do have cleansing spray and paper towels in the rooms but Im pretty sure employee should be cleansing the beds after each use. I notice this happening more when it is a single employee working.
This is the first gym I feel comfortable in! It’s great! It’s reasonably priced and offers a lot. Workers and gym members are friendly!
Good gym, but I left my ipod pro headphones on the checkin desk for a few minutes and when I came back to get them I could not find them…. If anyone has them please leave at the front desk thankyou.
Friendly staff, very clean and plenty of space. I like that its never packed when we go and that we can check capacity before even leaving the house.
Convenient, the manager is professional, staff is responsive, clean spot ( it would be nice to do frequent check up on cleaning supplies specially during rush hours..), well maintained, social distancing taken into account.Ive been coming here for the last year and half, i find this spot comfortable.
The manager is so rude, they will not tell you what you’re signing, they will tell you that you’re lying and actually online they would just charge you for nothing how to talk to him but he is so hard to deal with!I would not recommend this place for anyone at all as long as it do you have this manager here within this location!
Horrible, scummy business model that makes it intentionally super difficult to cancel your membership. They just pray if they make it hard enough people will just keep the membership. I keep getting charged for a membership I didnt authorize, that is in someone elses name, but I have to come in to my home office to sign paperwork to cancel.
This fitness facility is exceptionally Clean! All members wipe down the machines before and after using them. Going to this gym is enjoyable!
Beware. Theyre going to get your money no matter what. Theres language buried in your agreement that they wont tell you about, that will allow them to continue to pull monthly memberships or annual fees. Just because you cancel, doesnt mean your necessarily not going to be charged. No matter what the person who cancelled you says either.....Edit: Response. I did contact the manager. And was basically told too bad.
While the people here are friendly and the equipment good quality, the cancelation and billing policies are so bizarre as to be uncomfortable. Id look elsewhere; the inconvinience isnt worth it and is at odds with their marketing.
At the start of my workout I was 27% body fat. 22 minutes later, I had dropped down to 5% and grown an inch taller! Planet Fitness is magical!

So far so good! They seem to have really good cleaning and distancing protocols in place for COVID-19, so my daughter and I feel safe going there to workout for now. The staff is SO friendly, really impressive. Weve had a great experience so far and I have found it to be an excellent value and addition to our lives.

Absolutely pathetic. Once you move you cant get your payment information change and the General manager have. You also cant cancel over the phone you have to send a letter and in that time they hit your bank every day! they give you no option to bring dues up to date. This is fraud and theft. Avoid this Fitness group at all cost. The worst gym I have every been to !

We sent a letter in Dec to cancel my husbands membership and they never did. They are a bunch of scammers who keep charging months after requested termination of membership. Dont waste your time at this low quality scamming place.

Signed up for Planet Fitness recently specifically to be able to do cardio during the winter months. I was pretty apprehensive with the pandemic, but Planet Fitness (and this gym specifically) has done a wonderful job at making sure people feel safe while working out. All people in the gym are required to wear masks, unless you are working out at a specific spot. In between using equipment or grabbing cleaning items to disinfect, people are always using masks. Regarding the cardio equipment, they have each of the pieces spaced out or clearly marked to be able to maintain social distancing. Additionally, the app is an incredible tool to be able to do contactless check-ins and also a meter at the top of the app to show how busy the gym is at any given time. My needs for the working out at the gym are pretty simple, so I feel like this gym has not only met my expectations, but exceeded them to help make me feel safe while working out.One thing to note is that this gym doesnt have any scales to weigh yourself. This isnt a big deal, now knowing that as a company they are trying to encourage all members to feel good about their bodies and that scales can be a negative aspect for some, but I wandered around on two separate occasions looking for a scale when I first joined before I figured out why. Just throwing that tip out for all of you so you dont wander around aimlessly like I did.
When I first signed up I was very happy with the service, when COVID hit I was fine with the gym closing down for a while and understood that it was needed, now that it has reopened the rules have changed and they changed their service terms to require everyone to wear a mask. I asked since they changed the terms if they were going to allow members to cancel their memberships without penalty, the manager said no, only that we could put our membership on hold....again. I was willing to keep a membership to help the local business, but how many times are they going to keep members out and offer no real solutions? I would not recommend this gym, there is never a coherent policy and then if if you want out because of the changing rules you are denied unless you pay.

Just bought a day pass since the Y was closed for Easter. That said, staff was friendly, facility was clean, nice locker rooms with ability to borrow a lock to secure. Really liked how they had machines segmented and the 30 minute weight circuit. Every machine is branded with the Planet Fitness colors, so it was a pretty immersive no-lunk culture!I am used to a handful of frills such as towels in shower, cloth rags to wipe down machines (versus paper towel), sauna that this place did not have. All in all though, very nice establishment and hits all the basics at a budget price!Again, just bought a day pass but I did look at their pricing structure. A day pass is equivalent to their lower-tier monthly access pass minus sign up fees... not sure if contract required or not.

Hands down one of my favorite gyms!! The staff is AMAZING and have become more than just staff to me, I now consider a handful of them as friends. They go above and beyond to make sure each person in the gym feels comfortable and equipped with whatever they need. They are constantly cleaning equipment and facilities to ensure we feel confident and healthy when using this location. The pricing is out of this world and it’s silly NOT to be a member here! Not to mention there a locations all over the US so if you travel you can utilize other facilities whether on business or pleasure. PF for the win!
Clean and well organized. The staff is friendly, encouraging, and informative. The equipment is clean and easy to use. They have pictures on all the equipment for instructions on use. Been a member for 2 weeks and have already lost 4 lbs.

I went to the Urbandale location and I appreciate how clean everything was, there were cleaning stations everywhere . The staff were definitely taking initiative to make sure everyone was taken care of. The equipment worked great!

I moved from IA to AZ. The gyms are and have been closed since March here. I was charged this month for the membership. When I called to get a refund, I was told no thats not our policy. Your policy went out the door when Covid started! I will not join again. PF, your professionalism is seriously needing some help! Its not fair to charge me for something I am not able to use. I work hard for my money! Very unsatisfied customer

Your staff is so lovely. Pay them more and they may be willing to clean the bathrooms... The bathrooms smell like piss. The water pressure has magically disappeared over the years. Like...its impossible to wash your hands at 2 of the 3 sinks.

This is a great gym Ive been going to for over a year. I gave it 4 stars because theres no scale to weigh yourself because of body positivity. This is the weirdest thing to me. Theres a reason why me and so many others are going to the gym.. a lot of us are trying to gain or lose weight. Im trying to gain a lot of weight and this is the only gym that doesnt have a scale. I still prefer Planet Fitness because its close and the employees are nice.Also, the water tastes like sewage. Bring your own water lol
It was just as long to travel there by Dart as the Planet Fitness on Southside. 1 hour to travel 3 miles 🤔 the tanning was great but Southside Planet Fitness is more modern with more equipment & cleaner locker rooms
The worst customer service I have ever been involved with. I had a discrepancy about my membership and they refused to discuss it with me . The manager claimed he had no one higher up to talk to and hung up on me .
I was once asked by a worker to wear a t-shirt cause I was wearing a sports bra, so I had to buy one of the shirts they sell, however I see girls wearing sporta bras all the time, which is whatever to me I just wonder why treatment isn’t equal, Some racial discrimination going on here.
This location is smaller than others. But it doesn’t lose any quality due to this. It’s clean and sanitary. Workers are friendly and eager to help with anything you need help with. I would use this location more if I lived in West Des Moines. It’s close to a frequent used road but you are still able to leave the parking lot with ease.
Cant beat the value for the price of membership. They go above and treat us all with respect. Young and old...they are very welcoming. Sure makes me enjoy my work out experience. Thank you!

.Enjoy being able to go in early before work out the half hour before meeting my clients. Im 71 years old and work as a senior companion. I am a diabetic and also have a pacemaker so being able to exercise at my own pace is important to me and Planet Fitness helps me achieve my goals.
Great staff, and clean premises. Only thing is it’s a bit smaller and the free weight area tends to be hard to find free spots during peak hours.

In March, I wanted to cancel my membership for two reasons. 1. I had not used my membership for quite some time and wanted to cancel. 2. COVID. The day I decided to cancel, my bank account had been charged. I went to the location’s website to determine if I could cancel. The website stated that the location was closed and any membership fees would be refunded if charged on or after the day they closed due to COVID. The website also stated that no further charges would occur while the location was closed.This made sense and appeared to be the best way to handle the situation. However, I wanted to cancel at that time to stop any further fees on my bank when the location opened again. I made an attempt to log into my account, assuming that is where I could cancel my membership. Because I don’t log into my PF account on a regular basis, I forgot my username and password. I had my username emailed to me and rest my password with the link sent to my email.I was able to log into my account. However, it stated that my account was cancelled. I attempted to call the location to speak with someone. The location was closed due to COVID. The phone just rang and rang with no recorded message or anything. The location’s doors were locked each time I walked by and was unable to confirm anything with the location.I kept an eye on the situation by checking my email and location website frequently for updates as my intention was still the same; cancel in March. Once government officials announced that businesses would be opening soon, I began to check more frequently. My status online has never changed to active or anything that indicated my bank would be charged again so I assumed that no action was needed and expected a refund for March. Come June, my bank is charged again for a membership fee. I checked online with the login information given to me when resetting my password for my account; it still showed cancelled.I decided to call the location for a resolution to the issue on 06/18. I spoke to a friendly woman on the phone and she said that the situation was odd. She indicated that I had two memberships, one active and one not. I said that was odd and she agreed. She advised that I call back during the day and ask to speak with Michael, the location manager, and that he would assist me with my issue.I called on 06/23 and spoke with the manager, Michael. This is where things went south quickly. Michael was rude and unprofessional. He interrupted me multiple times and did not listen to me or the issue explained above. Michael explained that I had canceled one membership and then opened another. I tried to explain to him the above issue and that the website says my membership is canceled. He kept telling me, “Well, we have your signature” or “you opened this membership.” What does that have to do with COVID? What does that have to do with the fact that YOUR website says that my membership is cancelled? My intention was to cancel in March. Your location was closed in March and you charged me for March. You have charged me again in June when I was under the impression that my membership is cancelled (per your website) and yet you refuse to give me a refund. Michael did not stop and ask any questions to determine the root problem. He did not acknowledge that the website indicates my membership is cancelled.It is clear that your system gave me the wrong login information. Why I would have two different memberships or two different users when logging in does not make sense regardless of having been a member on two separate occasions; I don’t even have access to my active membership. If the system had given me the correct login information, this could have been avoided. I would have called you when you reopened to stop the next payment and requested to receive the refund for March.Because of this, I will not return to this location. The fact that you are unwilling to acknowledge the error/confusion and refund me for two months of membership fees because your system is inadequate is unacceptable.
I really enjoy this gym and the location. Easily accessed on my lunch break and after work. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. The gym is clean and welcoming and there is a ton of equipment options. HIGHLY recommend!

Very good place for workout, especially for beginner, I think there membership is cheapest in the market and provide pretty much all kind of equipments and facilities. Cleanliness is absolutely perfect but if you are a pro who like to workout in old fashioned heavy rusty kind of gym then this place might not be for you.
Terrible customer service. It is a big pain to cancel the membership. they will tell you they canceled and continue to charge you without reimbursement.

Is very accommodating for anyone with helpful diagrams for those new or starting to workout. And workouts for any muscle on the body. And finally staff is very kind, and helpful by giving you notices when closing time is coming up.
I have no complaints. People (Zach, Trainer, in particular) is very helpful. I plan to workout as often as possible! My first experience at a gym is very positive!

I went before work today at roughly 2:00 pm on 1/6. Wasnt greeted at all when I came in. She was too busy on her phone. I went to the shower and my guest experienced bad customer services. The employee was too busy on the phone again and wouldnt let my guest use message chair. My guest was very interested to be a member after 4 times comiing with me. Not anymore now.
Good price, like that the black card comes with tanning and unlimited guest privileges. More than that, this location is the cleanest, nicest looking one Ive been to, and the staff is very friendly. Love it :)

I like the variety of equipment available for use. However, it took me awhile to get the nerve to get back to lifting and needed some advice/encouragment. When I went for the first time, I got a hello but no instruction on how to sign in, no tour, no information, nada. I figured everything out, but it would have helped if they had done as promised per the website. Overall though, its clean and a great place to work out on a variety of equipment/weights/weight machines.
I came in one day just to tan. And I waited at the front counter for a solid 10 minutes with no employee in sight. Someone finally someone came up and he was very short with me. I normally dont complain but I was on a time crunch and just didnt appreciate the customer service given to me.
It is ok. A gym that has all the basic equipment you need for a quick stop by. Clean location and staff always friendly and helpful.
Update 2 Review:After refusing to talk to companies that I filed I complain on them. They were silent until I received my cancellation a month and a half later of sending a letter. It didnt take 2 weeks as they foretold but a month and a half and it gets worst than that. Now Im forced to pay them inside. Unbelievable.Original review: I use to go to this gym a lot within the past year. The great thing about planet fitness that Ive experienced was that the gym is nice. Other than that, the rest of my experience going to the gym was that Ive dealt with rude customer service members occasional basis. Their attitude was stressing me out to the point at the end of the year I decided to take a break.When there was a global issue occurring during 2020, I wanted to cancel my service. I called and got an automated message saying they were closed. So I sent an email and told them to contact me as soon as possible. However, I didnt get an actual live response for a while.It was until late 2020 that I saw that I was being billed again from the summer to late of this fall. I tried contacting planet fitness again and got a hold of the manager. I told him the issue, and his excuse was that they werent working at the time so that is why I didnt get a live response. He further told me the proper way to cancel. At first, I was ok with this and just wanted to cancel my membership using the 2nd option which is a letter. The manager told me when I send the letter it should take at least 2 weeks to arrive. I was confused by this as I live a couple of blocks down the street from the gym but I went with it.However, after a couple of occasional call check ups and weeks later. I get billed again for an annual. I called planet fitness speaking with the manager again. I requested for a refund on the annual as I believe they should have received the letter already because it past 2 weeks went I sent that letter.The manager replied that he couldnt give a refund, and he made a new excuse about my letter saying that they are backed with a lot of letters, and getting to mine could take a while. He also said that I could have emailed them Q2 of this year, but I was very close to it having to email them late this march. His excuse again was they werent working. So I questioned him on why they didnt check customers complaints when they got back to work. He again said they werent working and he practically said if he had to work on those complaints he would be working for free. So aiding customers around that time wouldnt be as much value to them especially when he got back to work.I also question about people trying to stay safe during this global issue and how minimal mistreated service is provided by this planet fitness manager. The manager again practically said he didnt care much about the safety that I want and looking for alternatives to canceling my membership externally other than a letter or face-to-face contact. He felt that since their gym had 0 cases, everything is completely fine.I again questioned his work ethic and still asking for a refund for the annual. He told me to go ahead and dispute the transaction, but he will get the money back anyway. As well as passive-aggressively trying to get me to hang up as he felt no more questions were relating to our chat.It was at this point that I refuse to ever step foot into this gym again. Knowing how rude the customer service members are and the difficulties of even talking to the manager. As the manager provided non-emphatic and rude service.Update 1 Review: I hope anyone reading this and their reply. Helps partially show how low their empathy is. They cant even apologize for the trouble I am going through with canceling my membership as they havent cancelled my membership yet. Nor they cant apologize for the terrible customer service by even the manager of the store. They are more worried about telling me about charging annual guidelines and yet they are still trying charge me more bills after that still this day. This is so unbelievable.
Always clean and never so busy you cant get a workout in in under an hour or so. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Standard Planet Fitness location. They have Tanning, Massage Beds/Chairs available for members, and members can bring a guest that are welcome to use the gym equipment. Some people seem to get frustrated in their reviews that their guest cant use some services, but nonetheless...They offer free Pizza on the first Monday of each month, but I havent been a member long enough to see that - though I also am not sure Id be there for free Pizza anyway as Id probably eat way too much of it (Free is the best taste!)The Total Body Enhancement machine is available at this location and a RLT (Red Light Therapy) machine. It has a vibra-function that is supposed to help tone your muscles, and I have no idea if it works for that, but the red light does help with my Psoriasis and my skin is much clearer after using the machine even though it hasnt been long. (This is a non-UV, non-tanning light).They seem to fit the planet fitness statement of no judgment zone at this location - people come, use the machines, and nobody really bothers each other.Minus one star only because a few of the machines could use a deeper cleaning and because it seems like the TVs are all turned to a bunch of SUPER far-right news channels.

The left side paper towel roll has been broken since I transferred here. And apparently today it was more important to have two people standing at the front desk to greet you rather than cleaning the 2 broken sinks. I guess we have never heard of the zip cleaners? For clogged drains? Find them at your local superstore, hardware store, or Walgreens directly across the street from here.
