A great builder to work with! Most companies out there dont offer true ground up custom builds even though they advertise it (just limited to modular systems you can pick and choose from) but Jonathan truly starts from scratch and built a design based on my preferences and specific needs.
Wed looked at many builds and immediately knew this is what we wanted, a step above all other builds. John lives #vanlife and his build reflects all aspects from those experiences. Hes completely accessible for questions and follow up which I see as a benefit being new to this Van Life World. Now we just need things to open up so we can get on the road.Nigel and Heather
UPDATED- a month after my initial review the fuel pump in my heater ceased to operate as well. 2600 dollars for installation of a heater that has malfunctioned 4 times in 3 months. NOT WORTH ITTLDR- installed heater in a spot we didn’t discuss, heater broke twice, messy and rushed installation, he recommended buying a heater from a overseased retailer that won’t warranty parts in the USA)Let me start by saying I was on the fence about paying 2600 for a heater install but ultimately chose to use Jonathan’s service; I was forced to sell my house and move into the sprinter I bought to start a business, I don’t have a great spot do a heater installation and was feeling intimidated already as it’s a pretty decent project. You would think $2600( in labor only) would get you a bomb proof set up and extremely professionalism. Instead, Jonathan put the heater in a location we didn’t discuss. I asked him where people typically install the heaters and he gave me the options of under the bed or under the passenger seat. After doing some research online I decided to go for under the passenger seat. When I dropped the van off, I offered that it the passsanger seat didn’t have enough space, under the bed on the passenger side would be fine. When I picked the van up, Jonathan had installed it on the drivers side, citing difficulties with the vans frame or something. I’m reasonable enough, so I didn’t make a big deal about it at the time but I thought it was pretty unprofessional that he didn’t bother to call me and ask if a different location was okay.He also didn’t bother to ask me what kind of battery the heater was being hooked up to until the day of installation, then he installed it without checking the size of the battery to make sure it would run (I asked him when I picked the van up if he checked the battery size and he said he didn’t, luckily it’s 90ah and is probably the bare minimum). The second thing I noticed that was sub par, is the exposed wiring that was ran throughout my van. Honestly it’s the level of construction I would expect out of myself but not a “professional”. I will certainly have to do some building to protect the wires further so they don’t get damaged as they were run through my cargo area. Now onto the heater malfunctions. The second night the heater has an error and wouldn’t run. I contacted Jonathan the next day and to his credit, made time to check the heater out that evening. Except he had never heard of the error code, and the heater managed to start working again while he was there.Fast forward 3 weeks later,Two days ago the screen that runs the heater stopped displaying information, however it continued to work for another few days, but then it has the same error as the second night and stopped working.I contacted Webasto (the heater manufacturer and they informed me that the heater I bought *from the retailer that Jonathan sent me a link to and told me to buy* was the European model, and not under warranty in the US. THANKFULLY, the helpful man as webasto informed me that I could buy the US controller to replace my broken EU one.I contacted Jonathan about the issue and asked him if he would have availability to check out the heater in a few days when I was back in Wenatchee. He said that I should contact heatso, the website I bought the heater from, and they would take care of it. So, in less words, figure it out yourself. If you’re considering using Jonathan to install a part or help you would your build, I would HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere, or better yet just doing it yourself so you can fix problems with more knowledge and speed when things ultimately go wrong down the road.
I have rented a van from Northwest Custom Van twice since November. The design of the van was very efficient. There was room for everything that we needed for our adventure. I especially appreciated that the van was heated with a vent system, something that is often overlooked in van builds. The second time I rented a van, it included a shower. We were able to play all day, shower, and sleep comfortably each night. Best of all, the builder was able to incorporate a shower into the van without imposing on the existing layout. Each van I have seen from this company uses the highest quality of product and craftmanship. I look forward to working with Jonathan on my own build in the future.
Electrical failure after three days. Jonathan suggested I install larger gauge wires than he installed then left me hanging.
This company is wonderful! I have found Jonathan to be knowledgeable and very responsive. My husband and I built our van conversion a couple years ago and since then we’ve decided to increase our storage space by adding cabinetry. However, we learned that hanging cabinetry in a van is quite difficult to do in a way that is safe and stable enough to hold in place. We left this job up to northwest custom vans and are glad we did. The cabinetry they installed is well-structured and beautiful! Thanks so much!
Jonathan was patient and persistent in pursuit of our first custom design build project. With his competent build and product knowledge we were able create a fine working promaster 2500 adventure van. I highly recommend working in collaboration with Jonathan to develop your investment/project. We now have 9500 miles on our build and plan on using NW Custom Van to fine tune our project for the upcoming season. Well worth the time to explore your ideas with Jonathan. WB
