I really do like this place. Living in Alaska has its challenges and those challenges become a little nicer when a family can get a membership and go swimming in a very clean pool. It concerns me sometimes that seems to not be always being taken care of or upgraded. Sometimes that means the decline of a business, and were surely hoping not. Its expensive to belong to this club, but to be able to swim all year round including negative temperatures helps the spirits of the kids. Adults too! Anyway, its never too crowded, the who is open most of the time but the very expensive water slides and such dont ever work. Theres always a problem somewhere and the first little kid that goes and lays a Tootsie roll in the water stops everybody from enjoying anything in the slide area. So it is hit and miss. Lots of workout opportunities, a few classes...all in all a nice place for the family.

Horribly overpriced, the facility is falling apart, there are puddles of water in the weight room Im multiple places. Im paying nearly $200 a month to use the facility, youd think theyd at least keep it in repair. The weight/resistance machines are off terribly and cardio machines are largely outdated or not working.I attempted to cancel my contract via their military clause. Not only was I denied cancellation (illegally) I had my military service thrown back in my face saying I should have had more integrity when I signed up and I should finish my contract. I filed a complaint with the BBB and found many similar stories of treating other members the same way. Their cancellation policy could use some updating as they also claim that orders to basic training are not sufficient enough to cancel a membership and they absolutely are based on the SCRA.I will never recommend them to anyone, its absolutely absurd theyve been getting away with this for years.

I would give zero stars. We live in Alaska- half the year snow, half the year sun. They make you sign a 12 month contract when that does NOT mesh with our life style up here. You want a successful business that people actually LOVE, don’t make your customers commit to a 12 month contract where the early termination fee is up towards $1,000. Alaska club is the biggest known scam in the state. In addition, childcare facility it to not be trusted. I tested out the facility years ago and picked up my baby with a gash on her head. It took an act of god to wash my hands of this place. They like to lasso people in. You’re doomed the first moment you step through their doors.

Ive gone here for a while. Went there growing up. Now that theres other gyms in town my eyes have been opened to just how dirty and over priced the Alaska club is.Their too focused on pushing memberships and not focused enough on providing value. The structure of their gyms is not thought out for convient training, their daycare is so random on hours you cant count on getting a good afternoon workout.Over all its a mediocre gym that falls short in providing value. Its insane over priced and theres an add on for everything. Not worth it. As an amendment to my review: I would have to say that it seems this company has an imbalance in its business structure. Not model but structure. The focus is not retention. The sales staff is focused on feature over benefit but more than a lack of benefit focus its a lack of searching for what is actually valuable to you customer. This indicates that there may be a sales commission structure thats causing these issues coupled with an operations management crew thats falling short and a corporate absence thats responsible for letting the place run down. Possibly because of over extention on the overhead side due to an old facility and a declining in the experience of the crew and improper training. The excitement of what the crew is even there for needs renewed and the business model needs a review on how memberships are structured. This wasilla location, at least, needs better leadership.

Called to try and get details on just using the pool. This person just kept pushing me for an appointment. I just wanted to know about using the pool to swim. She kept changing subject and trying to have me make an appointment. Dont what is up with this place. I had to interrupt several times cause they would not listen and just kept talking& talking. I understand your trying to get business. But, this how you go about. You need to listen of what the person wants. I asked about pricing. Finally she gave me a ballpark $80-$200 per month. I said I just want to swim . Her reply was you need an appointment for us to figure your package out. Guess Im going to the one of the high schools to swim. Cheaper and not locked into a contract. Hence you need to have your people become a better listeners. Cause trying to push things on people and taking the time to understand a potential customer is not away to run a business.

I left my swimming cap somewhere in the locker room, called to report it missing, they located it and called me back immediately saying it would be at the front counter. Same day, my friend left her blue ditty bag w her shampoo and such on the counter in the woman’s locker room and didn’t realize it. 24 hours later we walked in and it was still sitting in the same place! Wow! Thank you everyone for your integrity. I love our Wasilla Alaska Club and so enjoy being greeted by our cheerful Michele early in the morning.

I would like to start that I have a member for 4 years with the club. The customer service is here is extremely poor at the wasilla club. They lock the family lockers long before the pool closes so you have to wait to shower until you get home. I don’t send my son into the boys locker room because I saw a man playing with himself in the pool which they did nothing about. I have stood outside waiting for someone to unlock the lockers after calling and reporting to several people but they ignore as if they are purposely providing poor service because I have requested every night . They also will kick everyone out of the pool prior to advertised pool closure and if you are lap swimming they attempt to intimidate you to leave early because they don’t want to stay in the pool until it truly closes. They have even asked me before to leave long before the lap swim is scheduled to be over. I have stayed this long because I need to swim and use the jacuzzi for my pain management. But I am beginning to feel harassed and bullied by staff here unfortunately. The locker rooms are dirty as well and like I said earlier they lock the family wash rooms early. Not family friendly do not recommend.

Called to get pricing info. Lady was super nice over the phone but definitely a sales person. Conversation was very scripted and a usual 30 second long phone call turned out to be 5 min. If it is this hard to get pricing for Alaska club you can probably imagine how bad it is for someone to cancel a membership. They seem very deceiving and try to get you with “first month free” but then make it horrendous to cancel a membership. From past experiences I did not like Alaska club. I canceled my membership a few years ago and it took half a year, a handful of phone calls and a few times to meet in person to actually get them to cancel my membership. I thought I would give them a try this year but they are same old. In my experience planet fitness seems pretty nice. Just sayin 🤷‍♀️

I would really like to join just the Palmer Club (I think its a gem) but I dont understand why the Palmer Club is so expensive. It has no frills. The gym itself is a pretty good setup. They have a nice setup theres quite a bit to do depending on what youre looking for. The kids selection is pretty good as well gives people the opportunity to bring their kids and still get a workout. Seems like its starting to get pretty crowded now that the body renew fitness closed down. Coming from the lower 48 the 150 bucks a month is definitely higher than were used to. I wish I could give them 0 stars. This is the absolute worst model of customer service I’ve ever seen in my life. If you want to lose customers and money then this is the type of business you want to run. I’ve been trying to get in contact with accounting for months to pause my account due to work orders and have received only one response and it was only because I put a block on my card and they weren’t getting my money anymore!!! To top it off they charged me an “annual maintenance fee” and I haven’t even used their gym a single time since March due to COVID and then having to go out of town for 5 months due to work. I have emails and phone records to prove it. Friends warned me of this place and I should have listened. The saddest part of all of this is that it’s one of the only gyms Alaska has to offer: I’m all for supporting Alaskan businesses but I will happily take my money to Planet Fitness in this case.

Business practices, just look through their Facebook reviews. They regularly overcharge people and service is horrendous. When they absorbed Body Renew (just to put them out of business), they were also able to take the billing information from the former Body Renew customers. I transferred from Body Renew as the facility closed and the Alaska Club acquired the membership. The transition communication provided stated there would be NO monthly fee changes for one year however beginning January the fee increased $17.71 for an enhancement fee. Ive gone to this facility since it was Family Fun and Fitness but over the past few years the customer service is non-existent and the only focus is revenue. Even discontinuing membership is ridiculous as they require a 60 day notice. If you are considering joining be very careful and do your due diligence. Read carefully the proposed contract!!

This is a really clean facility and the staff is very friendly! The value for your dollar is average for Alaska gyms in the area but it has plenty of amenities such as a day care, rock wall, and pool with a splash pad. Our family loves going to the gym and trying out the different activities. The play area is clean and the staff are knowledgeable about caring for the kids. The swimming lessons are helpful and worth the price as well. The Rock climbing certification class was really informative and nice to be able to complete since you get to use the wall by yourself after you are certified. The team training classes are invigorating and get you moving really well! They are a bit pricey on top of the membership but nice to try out once in awhile. The racket ball and basketball courts work well and have satisfactory equipment available as well.We will continue our membership.

Watch for their scams! The Alaska Club has no problem taking advantage of people knowing that 80% of people will not go past the 5 month mark, let alone the 3 month. The Alaska Club will attempt to pull you in with a 3 month comfort guarantee and tell you, you can cancel any time in the 3 months, This is not the case. Read your contract before signing.1: You must have a health consultation within 3 months (good luck scheduling it). But Not bad right? Keep reading2: You must go to the gym a certain number of times which they will attempt to verify using security camers make sure you dont simply go in, scan and leave. This is why theyre so eager to get your photo day 1.3: you can cancel within the first 2 months if you pay $500.00 and submit a 30 day notice.4: you can only cancel the membership on the 3rd month (thus paying 200.00 after the 1st free month) and submit a written notice 10 days of your final 3 month time period expiration. So their comfort guarantee is a scam. The salesmen will not verbally inform you of these caveats, in fact theyll avoid speaking them completely. I highly suggest avoiding this company all together, but if you go anyway, i at least suggest reading the ENTIRE contract and taking all the time you need to do so and shop around.

The person who answered the phone was pleasant, but I just needed pricing infornation. I have 8 children and work full-time and no time to tour multiple facilities. Whats convenient for me, is to call, get prices and a list of amenities. Create a pro and con list for all my potential gym membership options, narrow down the list and THEN tour. I was really hoping to get a good idea of what a family friendly membership option cost and it wasnt even considered an option to give me a price. I just said never mind and the phone call ended. Unfortunately, the option is now crossed off my list because of the lack of offered consumer information.

My husband and I have been members of AK Club for about 7 months now. First of all, some of the clubs are better and nicer than others. The Eagle River Club is clean, well managed and very kid-friendly. The Wasilla club on the other hand, is another story. I have found the club to be chronically dirty, particularly the family locker rooms. You can tell that whoever is cleaning them either takes no pride in their job at all, or they simply don’t get cleaned. There was one particular time in which there was feces on the floor in one of the bathroom stalls in the female family locker room, and urine all over the seat and floor in the other stall. I went to the front desk and notified the personal working there who told me someone from the cleaning crew would come and take care of it. I went ahead and went to the pool with my kids and when I came back almost 1.5 hours later, nothing had been cleaned, feces were still on the floor. Aside from the cleanliness issue, the temperature in the family locker rooms is always very cold, which is truly unpleasant when you’re getting out of the pool to shower and change.Another issue we’ve had is that for almost a month, the hot water in the family locker rooms wasn’t working properly and would bounce between lukewarm and ice cold. We talked to people at the front desk multiple times and it still wasn’t resolved. After a couple of weeks, we tried to go in the regular locker rooms with our kids to get a hot shower, and were adimately told we were not allowed to be in there and that we would have to deal with the chronically cold showers in the family locker rooms. Finally, someone did agree to notify the maintenance person of the issue, and this past time we went the shower was hot in the female family locker room, but my husband said there was still an issue in the male family locker room. The regular locker rooms seem to be a little cleaner and a little warmer, but as kids are not allowed in them, you’re stuck with the sub-par family locker rooms. The club is also not very kid friendly. The “kids” room is basically a bunch of video games and tv screens, which is ironic considering it’s a gym. There’s a play place for kids, but it’s in their daycare area and you have to pay. There is a rock climbing wall that my kids like, a basketball gym, and there’s one workout room that kids are allowed in. Most of the club is off-limits to kids though, which makes options limited for people with kids who don’t want to leave them in daycare or leave them in a room to play video games. Then there’s the fact that once you sign up, they don’t make it easy to cancel your membership.Overall, my feeling is that if they’re going to charge people what they do, they need to make sure their facility is first and foremost, clean. They need to make the club more accommodating for kids, and in general, strive to make the club a pleasant place to be, whether you’re using the family or regular locker rooms. And truthfully, if they took pride in the facility they’re offering, they wouldn’t have to hog tie someone into a membership they can’t easily get out of, people would want to stay because they’ve had a pleasant experience.

The main pool area definitely needs stairs in and out.The pool area is very cold and drafty in kids zone areas, cold breezes from both locker room doors.Needs more kids classes.Needs more parking and lower rates for families.Maybe add just a pool membership option. The kids daycare space is way too loud making it hard for infants to be comfortable.Needs to separate the infant section from the loud big kid play area. Like the app addition for the treadmills though.November 2019Gave the gym another try for the pool while family was in town. The hot tub had so much bleach my dads black shirt is a light brown. My face and chest was bright red burnt from bleach for two weeks.Life guards watched as kids did cannon balls over me holding a baby, and ignored my son when other kids were scratching the hell out of his chest and back. I pressed a personal trainer and she was so kind to actually research it and figure it out. NO. In fact, there is no plan to paint lines. WHY IN THE WORLD?!!!! This is such an easy, basic thing to do. PLEASE, just a free throw line?!!! That really isnt that expensive. We are a family of 6 and this will definitely affect our membership. We referred another family of 6. They are fed up over the lines and will soon be moving their membership to the AT&T Center. This has been so frustrating!!!

Super expensive and if you get a package such as, the Platinum or Good Life you wont be able to use the services provided in them as they are under staff and not committed to schedules. I have been trying to use the service in my Good Life for the past 3 months and the first month couldnt book since all the spots were full which means I did not get to use the service for that month as they dont roll over. Also I was scheduled for the next month and my appointment was canceled due to staff being out. This June 2017 I originally had an appointment the first of the month and was rescheduled till the 18th which I doubt I will get the service since previous experience. I addressed the issue and due to mental incapabilities to handle constructive criticism and take things personally the issues can not be fixed. I would give it zero Estrellas (stars). Also Im in a contract and can NOT cancel as it costs $800 to cancel this unprofessional membership. Finally, the system is designed to screw the customer over when switching to a cheaper plan as they have you do everything through e-mail, one has to print the paper work, sign, scan & forward. However, the same same scenario does not happen when convenience is narrowed down to taking card payments or when switching bank accounts. The company is just interested in your money and locking you into a contract. Point proven. You heard it from a NAVY VETERAN. Do not sign a contract with them.

Im a firm believer that good, honest businesses, whose primary focus is the quality of their service and the satisfaction of their customers, shouldnt have to require a contract to retain business. The goal should be to offer a service that the customer wants to return to, and not obligated to get their moneys worth. I sure do appreciate the pride of local businesses who strive to provide better, less expensive services for us (overcharged) Alaskans. Its unfortunate that The Alaska Club isnt one of those organizations. Competition will eventually force them to change or force them out of business. Staying healthy shouldnt cost the equivalent of 30 Big Macs per month. Somethings wrong with that picture...

It all started With a phone call asking me if my family would like to take advantage of the one week fee trial for new and returning Alaska Club members, (my family and I had a previous membership a few years ago).. I got my two youngest boys(10&13yrs) and their 16yr old brother whom were all looking forward to going to the pool to play and swim, initially I planned to stay in the pool area with them and either do the tour of the facility after were done swimming, But just then the woman (akclub employee) informed me that theres a life guard on duty but when we used to have a membership we spent a lot of time with the kids in the pool area I hardly ever saw a lifeguard come there maybe just to pass througheven though they are 13-10&16 which they can swim and they look out for each other I was still very uncomfortable about leaving them so she convinced me it was OK to leave my boys at the pool its safe she said (I was uneasy) so I go with her on a Tour of the new upgrades, amenities, which went by in under 7min then like as soon as she walks me slowly thru the last part of the gym I quickly realized that she ended us up right at her office where she has books with different pricing and different levels of pricing and what comes with that perticullar level or package, So before I really knew what was going on I was being told by someone who talks a good talk and showed packages that I could pick from and then your being pushed for to make a decision. I didnt have my husband with me and my kids are in the pool without me(so distracted) but when she was pushing me to make a decision I wasnt comfortable feeling pressured like that, I told her I didnt want to make a decision without discussing it with my husband I told her I can talk to him when I get home and I would get back ahold of her with my decision.. But that wasnt enough for her to let me go (BTW kids are in pool by them selves for like 30 min Im starting to panic THEY STILL him she tried to insist again when I finally got very serious with her and told her flat out no Im not going to put him on the spot like that, she tried to bring in another woman who says shes higher up and if I sign up now she will throw in free tanning and other amenities that were very nice and anyone would love (bribery) I had been trying to make clear I was not interested in committing to anything until Ive talked to my husband and then I just stood up and said straight out this meeting is OVER youve kept me from my kids (who are swimming without me there) long enough Im leaving and going to be with my boys and try to have fun for my time I had leftLiterally less than a week after I went to the Alaska Club my phone started ringing it was that same lady calling me to try to pressure me still so I was straight to the point and told her I wasnt interested and to please stop calling its been 2 to 3 months since I was there they dont Call me randomly Ive got them in my contacts so I dont answer the stupid calls anymore anyway

Worse use of our money yet. We moved to the valley about 7 months ago and got a membership here first thing. We initially liked the facilities, amenities and the pool. Didnt take long to realize the staff was very unfriendly (especially the manager), facilities are very dirty, towels arent folded in locker rooms or are mixed with dirty ones, the hours of this gym are short and inconvenient to those who work long hours and commute from Anchorage everyday. Also, my husband cut his head on the pool filter which we initially thought was his mistake because he was a tall guy in the kids pool (one with the slide). Our very next pool trip there (a few weeks later) he cut his foot on the exact same spot after going down the slide. He confronted the manager about this and he started cursing at my husband and blaming it on him! He was so unprofessional and it baffles me that he has a job. After talking to all the ladies in the locker room, Im surprised anyone goes to this gym. Everyone I talked to was unhappy. Also, the pool area is FREEZING and we cant take our 2 year old there anymore because his lips turn blue and he cries the whole time. Manager said its cold because maintenance was opening and closing the outer door but its cold every single time we come. It is not baby friendly. We had also signed him up for baby/toddler swim classes which we paid for and it ended up being nothing more than a few days of a lifeguard sitting in the pool while parents teach their kids to swim (which we were already doing but wanted a pro to actually TEACH our kid). We never got a refund for that class like the manager promised. The tanning beds never work, bulbs are old, spray tan machine was always dirty, hydro massage has never worked since weve had membership, swimsuit dryers are always broken, childcare hours are inconvenient to those who work. We were also told by the manager to contact the GM about ending our contract with this gym but she doesnt answer the phone and weve left multiple voicemails at her office. We are so displeased with this poor excuse of an establishment and want out of our contract. If you are looking for all of the ammenities they claim to offer, keep looking!

My husband went with a friend using the buddy pass. for an HOUR they kept trying to get him to sign up for a membership but my husband clearly didn’t want one yet and still wanted to try the place out. Through out the course of a month My husband kept getting calls from them and finally he relunctently answered they offered to do a free week trial, he went in and they shoved a bunch of paper work to him saying no to the free week that he could just do the 90 days refund garentee, he again told them he just wanted the week. They said sorry and escorted him out...Uh ok? We’ll just do the gym down the road for $20 vs $100 for the Alaska club with people who clearly don’t know how to treat prospective members.

The Alaska club is nice and convenient one thing I do not like is letting children ruin my time in the hot tubAnd another thing I dislike is how expensive it is but they have a lot of options not like any other club. Front desk people are always friendly other staff not so much!!!

Really great place for swimming, working out, and just overall not that bad. However, the membership fees are quite expensive and is kind of worth it only if youre going as a family. In addition, when I went in to see how much the membership fee would cost, the person that was giving us a tour felt very semi-aggressive in making sure we signed up when we only went in to look. So Id say when going in, be on your guard and dont lose to their membership plans right away. Also, I didnt have this specific experince but Ive heard that many people have been scammed in some shape or form because they werent noticed about an enrollment fee or that there is a 1-year commitment, so watch out and ask questions about that. Also, personally, they told me for me they would not apply the $800 enrollment fee, but Ive heard some have actually paid that, so be stubborn about it and they might give you that promo as well. Furthermore, when giving you a tour, the person giving me the tour was saying words such as cheap places, basically trying to emphasize that other cheap gyms were not as great as this one. Dont let that fool you, Body Renewal has pretty much almost the same number of treadmills and cardio stuff as Alaska Club so dont fall for it. Im not saying they are lying or claiming they are frauds, just evidence. But going in to the actual gym, its clean and not bad. There are a lot of treadmills and bicycles. The pool is fairly large and there are jacuzzis and spas there as well. The main workout area is clean again, approximately 4-6 stations for the classic deadlifts, squats, and etc. They also have rock climbing which is located right when you enter. Id suggest asking for a 3-day pass to see if youre interested because there are cheaper options if youre going to be working out alone and only working out without swimming and all that. The interior is pretty nice until you reach the hallway that connects many things, the paint is pretty beat up and looks like it has never been finished painting and starts to smell kind of weird, but not to the point where you get knocked out. But overall, a decent gym.

Im not a member:Purchased swim lessons for my Grand Daughters Christmas gift for one month. I was sent lesson dates and my receipt via email. Lessons were over on 27th. I learned that my Grand Daughter had another month of lessons. Turns out I was charged another $114.00 to my charge card.I didnt authorize another charge to my card. I had no emailed receipt like I did the first time. My daughter said the swim teacher said they had another month of lessons. I wouldnt of know that I had been charged if it wasnt for her letting me know.I tried to contact the manager Jessica. I had a runaround just trying to find her. I called Palmer AC and was told the manager was right there. The person gets back on the phone and says they were mistaken. I said sounds like she is there just doesnt want to talk. I let the person know my situation with the double charge and she still wouldnt get on the phone to talk to me. NOT VERY HAPPY WITH ALASKA CLUB! Wont return.

After you cancel your membership, you will be charged for THE NEXT 2 MONTHS. ITS IN THEIR LAWYER-WRITTEN CONTRACT. A filthy money-hungry company. These guys are here to take your money and when youre done, take some more. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GYM if you dont appreciate being scammed with hidden fees and insane cancellation times.

First day of my membership and Ive been yelled at by the manager Jessica, and have a door slammed in my face by the lifeguard Greg! But this pass has something to do with my children for Homeschool as well as to try to remedy a medical condition and not only has it put me under more stress but I put my children under stress as well.

Incredibly unethical business practices. Join another gym. Your membership experience will be one of constantly watching your bill for unauthorized charges, dealing with an extremely unprofessional accounting department, and tearing your hair out over the apathy of customer service.
