I joined Boston Underground in June 2021. I had been going to a rock-climbing gym in the area for 7 years, but my performance had plateaued on some of the mid-to-higher grade climbs: I wanted some proper personal training to improve and supplement the climbing gym experience. While I had some exposure to lifting and weight training, I never had any formal instruction, let alone a properly tailored exercise plan. Angel and Angela helped me to develop a self-training program that would help build strength where it was needed. My goal was to remain athletic without gaining too much muscle. After attending 2x a week, I saw improvements within 4 to 8 weeks. The 1-hour commitment of the program is very manageable before or after work, the online sign-up system is intuitive, and semi-private instruction is the right balance between a personal trainer and self-workout. It introduced me to the right mix of exercises that I can commit to weekly while maintaining my interest in climbing. Moreover, both Angel and Angela help explain throughout the workout the motivation for each exercise, which contextualizes the goal and organization of the program. After a few weeks, the program built to include new exercises, tailored to my progress. As for the gym, the atmosphere is professional yet laid back, the equipment is very well maintained, and the gym is sanitized after every session. Most importantly, I really enjoyed that the gym isn’t targeted to a specific type of client; it’s really focused on your personal goals and experiences. I highly recommend Boston Underground to anyone new to strength training and/or looking to develop a customized workout plan.
I dislocated my elbow in February and couldnt think of a better place to continue working out. Angel and Angela worked around my elbow and helped me make sure I could target all other body parts and achieve my fitness goals. Im more than grateful and appreciative for their knowledge and kindness. The gym is always clean and during COVID there wouldnt have been any other place I would have felt comfortable working out at. Truly top quality training!
I love it here! I joined over 2 years ago to help my recovery from a ruptured Achilles and it’s been such a positive experience for me. The coaches are very knowledgeable, patient and motivating. They care about your workout goals and your overall health and can develop a program to whatever you need! I feel so much stronger and more confident as a result of the time spent here. Thanks to Boston Underground Strength Training, I am stronger and more confident in my body now at 35 than I have ever been in my life. In high school, I was too embarrassed and ashamed to participate in any sports. Im now a high school teacher, and today I proudly played in the student vs. staff kickball game. I could not have done that without the support, focus, training, and care that Ive been receiving at the Underground for two years now. The coaches here listen to my goals, adapt to my needs, and take the time to figure out how to work with my dyspraxia. I told them what my goals were and they made a routine to fit what I asked. Most of all, the facility is great and was just what I was looking for.
Semi-private training at Boston Underground Strength Training is the best gift you can give to yourself. I came to BUST as a complete weight training novice, and Angel made me feel at home. Each program he creates for me is based on what I want to improve and acknowledges my limitations. He and his staff have helped me understand proper form and have made me feel completely safe during the pandemic, which was extremely important to me during the winter months when exercising outside was not an option. I cannot recommend BUST enough!

I started training with Boston Underground Strength Training through zoom in the spring and was quickly hooked. I was excited once the gym opened back up and signed up for semi-private sessions twice a week. With living in Boston there are gyms within 5-10 minutes of my house and Ive tried many of them. However, none compare to the programs at Boston Underground Strength Training. This gym is worth the 30 minute drive and I look forward to every session.On top of it, I feel extremely comfortable with the safety and cleanliness of the gym, especially with everything going on with Covid. It is very apparent that Angel and his team have gone above and beyond to ensure the gym is a safe and clean facility for all members and coaches.Angel, Mark and Steph are exceptional coaches. I feel challenged during every workout and I leave there feeling like wow did I just do that. I also really like the setup of the semi-private sessions where the workouts change each month. I have a month to learn the exercises, perfect my form and challenge myself each week. I started training at Boston Underground when my circus coaches told me I would need to begin stability training in order to safely continue my contortion journey. With my background in the circus arts, I was very unfamiliar with all the exercises and equipment found in a more traditional gym, but Angel and his incredible staff made me feel welcome and comfortable. Living with a connective tissue disorder can make exercising challenging, but the staff were always happy to modify drills. The team is very thoughtful when building my monthly workout regimens, and takes careful consideration of both my short and long term goals. In no time at all, I developed the strength and stability necessary for more advanced contortionist positions. I can say with absolute certainty that Boston Underground Strength Training has been paramount in my development as a young circus artist. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, Angel and his team have what it takes to make sure you meet your goals. I cannot overemphasize how amazing this place is!
I have been going to Boston Underground for about 3 years now and could not be happier! I participate in the small group training sessions 2-3x/week. I would highly recommend joining BUST for the group sessions and/or semi privates...the coaches are as fun as they are motivating! Classes are structured in a way that maximizes the time and are designed for all fitness levels. The gym is kept in pristine condition!I am so happy to have found a great gym and great fitness community!
Ive been training at Boston Underground Strength Training since January. Prior to joining, I was working out on my own, hit a plateau and decided I needed something to push me harder than I could push myself. Since joining, Ive participated in all three of the group classes and have seen great results, thoroughly enjoyed myself and met some really cool people. The coaches, Angel and Jon, are great, extremely attentive, hands on and clearly love what they do. The environment has loud music, is clean and has an aura of pride throughout it. You wont regret joining this gym, everything is at your own pace and the only pressure you feel to to work as hard as you can.

I tried a few other training centers and nothing compares to the 1-1 attention you receive with Angel and his team of highly skilled trainers. I opted for the semi-private lessons where I build onto a new program each month as I continue to get stronger (and toned I might add). You work 1-1 with their amazing trainers who understand your program and teach you each of the exercises. This was all new and intimidating to me and my middle aged self so I greatly appreciate how supportive they are. They motivate and encourage me all along the way. This gym is truly for everyone and BUST has created a great community! The facility is super clean with top notch equipment and Angel, Stephanie and Angela all make sure we all are safe. More than just a gym, BUST is truly a community. Angel and the coaches at BUST have built a community focused on values and those values are what generate the results. Every coach is knowledgeable, kind, caring and invested in their attendees as members of the community. My Fiancee and I both attend BUST and they have helped us both tremendously and can train everyone from complete newbies to former and current athletes.I have done both classes and semi-privates at the gym. Classes are challenging and intense as well as deeply satisfying. They helped me get back to a base level of strength and movement that helped counteract a decade of desk work after stopping competition training in martial arts. Semi-privates are fantastic for those that have specific fitness goals since you get custom programs and a system of accountability around that program.
I have been attending for almost three years and this gym has truly changed the way I go about working out. I was looking to start working out again on a consistent basis and I found that no matter what self routine I cam up with I just couldnt sustain the motivation. Joining this gym easily solved this problem. It takes all the guess work out of working out given that each class is expertly curated for you by the very knowledgeable staff. The workouts are well thought out and the coaches are very keen on making sure you do them correctly. This gym is also incredibly inviting for anyone at any skill level and each team member and coach Ive encountered has been nothing but incredibly encouraging. More than a fitness community, BUST is my fitness family!! I came to this gym 3 1/2 years ago, initially to rehab a sports injury, but later decided to stay due to the professionalism, attention to detail, personalized treatment, dedication, and overall experience. Needless to say that I fully recovered from my injury in no time. Angel and all the trainers are all amazing and very knowledgeable, with many years of combined experience in different disciplines. Now, Im hooked with the fitness camps!! I would highly recommend the BUST family to anyone looking fitness/wellness support from the fitness staff and all participating members. Two and a half years ago I was getting ready to introduce my daughter into this world. As the date approached, I knew I had to get into a workout regime before becoming a dad provided me with endless excuses to push off getting in shape. Thankfully, I found the Underground before my daughter and dad-bod arrived.The Underground group classes offered a structure and format that instantly clicked for me. Having played sports most of my life it was a familiar and motivating setting working out alongside a group of peers. I found myself looking forward to each class as I always left feeling accomplished and ready to take on the day.What I like most about the group classes is that Angel and his team develop each class using their expertise as personal fitness trainers. All I have to do is show up and be willing to put in the work. I dont have to spend extra time designing workout plans or routines.I am truly thankful that I found not only a great gym, but also a such motivating and welcoming community to be a part of. It has been over a year since I joined the gym and I love it. The vibe is great, the coaches are awesome and knowledgeable, the people that go there are nice. It feels like you are working out with your buddies. Even during the current quarantine situation, theyve come up with ways to get us moving with virtual workouts and somehow still have that same vibe :)
If you’re looking for a professional and friendly place to train, a respectful member community, Boston Underground is the place for you. The classes and programs are well coordinated. The equipment and workout area are clean, well layout and organized. Most importantly is the instructive attention you get from the experienced trainers whether you’re in the strength training program or the semi private training program.I have been training here for more than a year and a half and it is my first training program experience. I don’t recall ever feeling out of place from day one. The trainers have been able to put together goal oriented training programs that commensurate with my level of physical competency. I never felt overwhelmed or underachieved. It is always the right level of encouragement and support. The trainer is always there on days when I needed that extra push. The outcome is, I got stronger physically and feel healthy and great mentally which are goals that I want to maintain. I recommend this place to anyone who has the same goals.
I started at the Underground originally to help me recover from an extensive ankle injury. The semi-private training option was perfect because I got a customized program to deal with my specific situation and limitations. Even within the first few weeks I was moving better than I ever expected. Throughout my recovery the trainers always adapted my program to my new capabilities as I improved and encouraged me through good instruction and always a positive attitude.Two years later and Ive gained much more than simply recovery and new strength, but also a deep respect for the strength training process and my own health in general. The trainers here set such a strong and focused standard for everyone that you cant help but want to improve yourself every day.In addition to continuing semi-private training I have also started doing the larger group classes as well. The metabolic strength class is a great high-intensity challenge and has been a nice way to round out my overall fitness.
Once upon a time getting myself to the gym was a chore. It was because 1. I would go alone and the gym I went to was super busy (talk about intimidation) 2. I couldnt tell if my form was any good when I started to get tired or tried a new machine, lift, etc. 3. My knowledge of health & fitness only goes to a certain extent and then Id fall into a rut and 4. Add some injuries as the whipped cream on top to give myself an excuse not to go (but really Id use any).BUST has changed all of that! I love this place and let anyone who cares know. The trainers are awesome and motivating. I can see positive changes in not only my health but my overall mindfulness. Never did I think Id be excited to wake up for a 6:00 AM workout or be sad because its my day off but here we are. BUST is great for all levels (but they will make you work) because the trainers are very knowledgeable and care about ALL of their clients. If you want to invest in your fitness this is the right place.
Before finding the underground I was in a pretty serious workout rut. I found myself going to my old gym and working out but I wasn’t getting the same results that I once did.I had suffered a significant arm injury as a result of 10 years of martial arts training. I was avoiding certain exercises because of pain and overall it was beginning to effect me mentally. As a former two sport collegiate athlete I thrive being in a competitive atmosphere and enjoy being part of a team. The underground delivers that type of atmosphere both physically and mentally.I’m happy to say after 2 years at the Underground my arm injury is all but gone as a result of the training and attention by coaches. I’m also as strong as I was during those martial arts days.The most surprising result from joining the underground was the community. It’s such a great group of people and a fun atmosphere. I’ve met some people that I know I will be friends with for the next 20 years. We work hard and play hard.
This place is hands down the best training facility I have ever been to. I started coming to BUST for strength training during the winter but have now made it a regular part of my routine. BUST is the first gym that I have been able to stick with for more than a few months! Ive been coming for 9+ months now and I always come out feeling better. Trainers are very good about making adjustments as you need them to help you get exactly what you want out of your workout. Very clean and friendly environment with lots of people who are just as clean and friendly!
I’ve been going to The Underground for a little over 3 months now and it’s been the best fitness experience I’ve ever had. In past attempts to add exercise into my life I never felt like I was making much progress and would end up losing motivation. The Underground is completely different. It’s a group setting, which as an introvert was scary to me at first, but the atmosphere is so down-to-earth and accepting that I felt at home right away. The exercises are varied and targeted in such a way that I started seeing results almost immediately. You can tell they know what they’re doing!Angel, Angela, and Steph are amazing coaches who are great at instructing and keeping you feeling positive. I really had no idea what I was doing when I first started and have learned so much from them.The Underground is definitely more than just a gym and it’s made me feel stronger in so many ways. Moving from Connecticut to Boston for grad school I wanted to find a gym that fit my schedule and provided a great workout. What I found was that and much more. I became part of a community that was welcoming and geared to helping everyone reach their goals. The coaches are very knowledgeable, making sure that the correct form is being used as well as giving you a workout to challenge yourself. It has been roughly three months since I joined Boston Underground Strength Training. I trained by myself at several other places before joinging. I left my old gym and joined Underground training mainly due to COVID, because I want to find some place that takes everyones health and well-being seriously. Angel and the team did a great job. They tried very hard to keep the number of people training at the same time low, and clean the facility as frequently as they could. In general, I feel safe and comfortable.In terms of training, Im mainly into powerlifting, and luckily Mark is an expert. He helps me improve my techniques. Im expecting to break my PR in big three by the end of this year. Mark is very personable, friendly, and push you at the right time. From my observation, he trains both lifting rookies and veterans very well. One thing I like the most is that Mark tries to accommodate my request and make the training flexible. He also explains the reasons behind his advice and design, which I think its the most important thing to improve myself.In short, I highly recommend Boston Underground Strength Training. If its in your budget, join it. I cant comment on other things, but if youre into powerlifting, Mark is a great coach, and Angel is a great boss! I enjoy my time here.

Its cliche but, for me, Boston Underground Strength Training is just what the doctor ordered. Foremost, it provides the structure and approach that fit my aims. Im no longer the gym rat I once was, but I do appreciate a rigorous workout. BUSTs classes are challenging, but the workouts permit individuals to moderate intensity as they desire. Perhaps more importantly, the creativity and variety inclusive in each session and workout type gives me a true full body workout. This is hugely important to me as I age and helps enhance activities that I do outside of the gym such as cycling, running, and playing softball. In addition, I cant speak highly enough of the coaches- they provide a great amount of motivation and also ensure that Im maintaining my form so as to reduce injury and get the most out of each set.

I started training at Boston Underground Strength Training almost a year ago. I have always been a petite build so had never really committed to a gym and had never lifted weights before because I didn’t think I had much of a reason to. Still, looking in shape and being in shape are two very different things. I started with the intention of keeping my body toned for my upcoming wedding, what I have gotten out of it is really beyond what my expectations were. At first, muscles I didn’t even know existed were so sore it hurt to even get out of bed in the morning. I stuck through it anyway and I am so happy that I did. The transformation I have seen in my body, as well as my overall health, is astonishing. I am so proud of how far I have come and I have the confidence in my body to prove it. Angel and John are phenomenal trainers, they check in with you before class to make sure you don’t have any discomfort, encourage you to keep pushing yourself throughout but also respect you to go at your own pace. They are able to keep an eye on every single member throughout the entire hour long classes and adjust your movements as needed to make sure you stay safe and get the most out of your work out. What’s even better is that they know everyone by name and what their goals are, making it a much more personal experience. Even after moving 45 minutes away, I refused to transfer gyms. I strongly believe you wouldn’t get the same dedication, teamwork, and support that you do at BUST anywhere else. Highly recommended!
It took me 5 months to find the courage to join this gym and I regret not starting sooner! If youre thinking about becoming a part of this fitness family, dont hesitate going forward in doing so. Before this gym, my workout life was becoming routine. In looking for ways to learn how to improve my knowledge on strength training in order to challenge myself and achieve more with my body, I came across this gym.Throughout my training experience at Boston Underground, my confidence surrounding fitness has sky-rocketed. Angel and Jon are phenomenal trainers! I cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me. Because they focus on proper form/technique makes every single workout session effective. I havent been happier with the changes I have seen with my body and it is all thanks to Angel and Jon and my personal motivation to want to change! I had not worked out since college and not doing anything for 5+ years, I knew I needed to make a lifestyle change and get back into shape. I finally emailed them in February and joined the next day! I started doing the group classes 3x a week, as well as the semi-personal training 1x week. The personal training is amazing!! Angel tailors your program to meet your personal goals and I cannot say enough great things about the results I have seen! Everyone you work out with in the group classes are all incredible individuals and very welcoming too. In my opinion, the classes and training are for all levels- especially if you hadnt seen the inside of a gym in years- like myself. They really get you back on your feet and ensure you are doing each workout properly to avoid injuries! I actually got into a car accident last month and unfortunately injured my back, so I had to take some time off, but when I returned Jon and Angel were great and really took the time to understand what injuries I had and how to modify the exercises for me. I cannot say enough great things about Angel and Jon and whole BUST community!!
Boston Underground Strength Training is a godsend in the sports fitness community. I spoke with Angel on the phone to discuss my goals, recovering from a multi-year shoulder injury and getting back onto the path to powerlifting, and we set up an in-person consultation.The consultation was quick and thorough and we set up a plan of action to get me back in shape to lift heavy again. It took a while but trusting Angel and the other trainers here was the best thing I have ever done. I want to say it took about 8 months of recovery based training with the semi-private training group but I no longer have the chronic shoulder pain that I first walked in with. Since coming to Boston Underground Strength Training and going through the recovery training I have competed in three powerlifting meets and have been performing better than I could ever have imagined thanks to the excellent programming and coaching provided here.Without Boston Underground I would never have been able to recover from my shoulder injury and probably would have had to give up on my favorite hobby. I wish I could rate this higher than 5/5.
We joined Boston Underground about a month ago and recommend it highly. We actually look forward to our workouts…when finished, we find ourselves in that perfect place of feeling both exhausted and strong. The trainers are attentive and encouraging, with a focus on safe movements to help avoid injury. The workouts are challenging, thoughtful and each class includes thorough instruction for each movement. The space is clean, organized, and the equipment is meticulously maintained. The other members are very welcoming, and you get an immediate sense of community. We tried several other gyms in the area, and none of them stand up to B.U.S.T.
I made the decision to try out BUST because I became really interested in strength training but had no real prior experience in the technical aspects of lifting and no experience building a training program that I could adhere to. I was previously on a self-managed 3x5 program which I saw some gains through, but as the weight got heavier I really began to question my form and I noticed my confidence in pushing against my limits start to fall. I started looking around for a personal trainer and I was drawn to BUST from the extremely positive reviews that I read online.Since last April Ive been enrolled in the semi-private training program once a week and I train outside another 3 days a week following the training program that Angel has created for me. At the end of each 4-week cycle we sit down and talk about my progress and where Id like to be. I find the programs that Angel develops for me to be extremely time efficient and the correct level of challenge to make substantial progress towards my goals.On the days that I come in to train, Angel and Jon are there to coach me on the exercises and to help me improve and maintain my form when Im lifting heavy. They are both extremely personable coaches and are incredibly attentive to the small details of a correct technique. They consistently gauge how Im feeling and make modifications to my training if necessary to get the most out of my workouts.The BUST facility is always kept clean and organized and the equipment is top notch. Definitely a minimalist feel to the place but all the equipment there serves a purpose. Plenty of parking available.
Since I found Boston Underground Strength Training, I was introduced to a whole new world, one up until now I didnt even know existed. Angel and Jon have shown me that strength training is about movement and also art, too. I had no idea. I appreciate Angels philosophy, his in-depth approach to strength training, and extensive knowledge. Also, I love the positive way Angel and Jon work with me. In their presence, I feel I can do anything. Thank you!Im new to strength training and just became aware of how much there is to even the most basic movements. It seems impossible to learn all thats necessary to enable my mind and body to work together and master the movements. However, since working with Angel and Jon, Im learning its possible---even though my mind and body seem so far apart at this point. I took a serious hiatus from athletic activity after playing college soccer. By the time I got motivated to get back in the gym, I didnt even know where to start. I absolutely hate the treadmill and have trouble motivating myself. I tried Class Pass and other gyms, but I just wasnt getting the results I wanted. I needed a jump start.From the very first session, I felt completely comfortable working out with Angel and Jon. I saw immediate and dramatic results. After taking advantage of the trial package for the strength camps twice a week, I opted to go 3 times a week I love it. Prices are the best Ive seen; so reasonable. The attention they give each client during their camps is equivalent to what some people give in a private session. Everyone in the class takes it seriously, but its a casual atmosphere where you can go at your own pace. Programs build on previous ones, and theyre designed with significant input from the member: This isnt the trainer prescribing what they think is appropriate for you. This is the trainer forming an effective working relationship with you to ensure theyre designing, coaching, mentoring and demonstrating what we both believe is challenging both mentally and physically in addition to achievable with additional commitment and persistence.The studio is exceptionally clean, well organized, bright and engaging. The pristine condition of the facility, the equipment, mats, bands, balls, weights, changing rooms and more illustrates that Angel and Jon are here to inspire us in addition to leading and coaching us.When you look around and there are other clients training, you also observe that Angel and Jon are right along side them ensuring were performing the movements correctly and completely. When I receive (welcome) corrections, sometimes theyre structural (as when I dont swing a kettlebell for maximum effectiveness) and sometimes theyre small, seemingly invisible (to me) corrections that I immediately recognize elevate my awareness of the movement and become part of the next set and future sets.Angel and Jon have created a culture of Excellence here: They do it without preaching, flexing (literally and figuratively) their muscles or overwhelming the client with details that we cant absorb yet. Clients at all levels of fitness are treated equally here, too: If I was training at the same time as an elite athlete, I expect that the elite athlete would receive the same level of attention as myself. I dont see or sense ego anywhere in the room (from Angel and Jon or from any of the clients Ive been fortunate to meet while training.) I highly recommend this fitness studio for anyone seeking self improvement starting with physical training.
Angel, John and their team of trainers is second to none. They offer a variety of opportunities for folks to train. I personally train in the program format. This format never hinders anyone nor does is ever make anyone feel rushed or out of place, its the perfect way to attain your goals alongside a great group of like minded folks who are all working towards their own personal achievements too! If you are looking for a place to train alongside people who truly care and have your best interest in mind, look no further. My wife and I both drive 40 plus minutes multiple times per week to train here and its worth every minute.. Keep it up guys.
I have been privileged to work with some of the best strength coaches in the country. The staff at BUST is as good as any you will find. Great programs, meticulous attention to detail, and professionalism are evident every time you workout at their facility. If you want to improve, resolve a imbalance issue, or train to your true potential this is the place for you. Not to mention that the environment is inclusive and supportive. No judgements just help. You set your goals, They help get you there. You could easily pay twice as much money and not receive half the attention and instruction you get here. I wish I could give them 10 stars
After reading all of the great reviews online, I decided to try out Boston Underground Strength Training. Ive been going regularly since February and I LOVE IT! I was a rugby player in college, and Ive always loved working out and training with a group. The group classes really fulfill the team aspect that I had been missing since I stopped playing a team sport.Angel, John, and Lyda are great trainers, and they are so passionate about everyones form and personal health. They make a point of coming around at the beginning of class to check on how everyone is feeling, which is something I had never seen before in any sort of fitness class Id been to. The workouts are challenging, and they are dynamic enough that people of various fitness levels can do the same moves with different weights or other added difficulty.The people who attend the classes are so supportive. We help push each other during the workouts, in addition to Angel, John, and Lyda encouraging us! I have been so happy to make BUST a part of my weekly routine. Ive definitely gotten a lot stronger, my technique has improved, and my posture is noticeably better. I would highly recommend Boston Underground Strength Training to anyone looking to have fun and be challenged at the same time!

Ive been coming to BUST for almost a year and have seen amazing changes in both my physical and mental health. I moved to Boston a year ago from New York and was very picky about finding a gym. In New York I had a personal trainer, had considered becoming a trainer myself, and took circuit training classes with people I worked out with for years. I dated gyms when I moved here and tried to find the right fit where I actually felt like my body was working I was being pushed, but the instructors were knowledgeable and safe.Boston Underground Strength Training has been EXACTLY what I was looking for. I walked into the gym and could immediately tell this gym was different. Jon, Angel, and Lyda are invested in helping you get the best experience. They push you but also teach you. I love the aspect that they dont just tell me what to do they teach me how to do it right and tell me why. I learn how my body moves and how to push it harder in a fun supportive environmentBesides being taught to me, the exercises also kick your butt. These classes are just as outstanding as the group classes. After 2 years away from the gym, I no longer had any confidence in the weight room and I wasnt sure how to get back the strength Id lost or how to get started. I cannot say enough good things about Boston Underground Strength Training!As a spinning and group fitness instructor, Ive been in a lot of gyms and have interacted with many trainers. No one is as passionate, detail-oriented, knowledgeable, and intuitive as Angel, the owner of Boston Underground. He, Jon, and Matt make an incredible team, and the three trainers ensure that each person gets the workout he/she needs while having fun every step of the way. With a 7:1 student:trainer ratio (at most) in the strength camps, the trainers are able to assist each student with form and movement in order to prevent injury and maximize results. The trainers also provide progressions and modifications so that each person can work at their own ability level. In fact, over the past four months, theyve helped me to get stronger and faster, despite three degenerating discs in my lower back.Boston Underground is so much more than a gym. I’ve been going to BUST for about 6 months now and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Before I started the program I hadn’t done any exercising for about 4 years so I needed a place I could trust to help me relearn how to work out. I grew up with Angel and had followed his gym on social media and knew that this was the place for me. I was anxious about working out in a group setting at first but after the first session I instantly felt like a part of the family. All of the coaches have taught me so much and helped me to push myself and hold myself accountable. The camaraderie shown between the coaches and members is something special and everyone is incredibly supportive of each other. I recommend BUST to anyone who is looking to improve themselves while working out in a positive and fun environment. For as long as I can remember, my mother would constantly complain of shoulder/neck pain. After countless PT sessions, plenty of Advil, and hundreds of dollars in co-pays, she still woke up in pain each day. Last year for Christmas, I gifted her private training at Boston Underground Strength Training in the hopes that strengthening those muscles would help her. Angel and Jon took the time to evaluate her and come up with a program perfect for her needs. Three months later, the complaints stopped completely. Its been over a year now and shes committed... and so am I!I started going to the strength camps shortly after she started and I cant believe how far Ive come myself. I had always been active prior to training here, but Ive never felt as strong and fit as I do today. My form is better than ever- these guys will always make sure to make adjustments regardless of how many people in the session. The atmosphere is welcoming to anyone at any level of fitness. I wouldnt train anywhere else!
Ive tried just about every trendy fitness studio in the area, and Boston Underground Strength Training has surpassed them all. Not only is the quality of the workout better, but the support and comradery is unlike any other gym Ive visited. Upon joining BUST I was lost when it came to strength training. I started with semi-private training, and now participate in strength camps. I was given a tailored program to reach my goals and learn crucial fundamentals that I continue to improve.Angel and Jon make an excellent team; they are compassionate, knowledgeable, motivational and supportive. They give attention to each person, and that goes beyond good form. They care about their members, and they work really, really hard. There are people of all experience levels at BUST, but that does not matter. Everyone is supportive, everyone has a good time and everyone gets better.Ive never heard anyone say anything negative here, and I look forward to going in every time. I recommend it to anyone who is looking to better themselves with the help of an excellent, and knowledgeable, support system.
A year ago, I was in need of finding a good gym. I was over trying to force myself going to “normal” self-sufficient gyms. I just randomly did a google search and found Boston Underground Strength Training. What caught my eye was the group trainings. After meeting Angel, he told me that doing the group training sessions would be in my best interest. I started out going twice a week for a month. After feeling more confident, I upped to three times a week and I feel amazing. I love the different workout plans that Boston Underground has created. They are always challenging for either males or females. Every time I showed up to the group training session, trainers Jon and Angel always would check in with me and other gym members individually to see how everyone is feeling and if they have any injuries. (If you state you have an injury, they make the workouts geared around your needs while making you stronger and not injuring yourself more). I now look forward to working out since they change up the workouts every 4 weeks and introduce new challenges all the time. The most amazing part of the group training sessions are that Jon and Angle are always walking around and encouraging you to push yourself, but making sure you are going at a pace that is right for you. They always give good encouragement that makes you feel like they are only focusing on you the whole class (even though they can be working with as many 12 people). The atmosphere and other members are always so encouraging and friendly! It is always is a great feeling when there is a “no judgment zone” and everyone is so respectful. I have noticed such a difference in the way I feel physically. I also enjoy walking into the gym and seeing Angel and Jon excited to get the class started.
I had been wanting to join this gym for months when a friend of mine who was a member kept telling me how great it was. I was reluctant because I had never worked out in this type of environment and was afraid I couldnt do it. My work outs at the time consisted of me inconsistently going to the gym and getting on the treadmill or doing a Zumba class and seeing no results. I had no clue about any type of strength training or conditioning. Needless to say, Im so glad I finally took a chance and joined the Camps at Boston Underground. Ive been there 4 months now and my body has changed so much. Ive lost weight and can finally say I feel like Im getting in shape and am feeling much more confident. Its a group environment but Angel and Jon (and Lyda as well) make sure you feel comfortable as well as get personal attention to fit your needs and make sure you are moving correctly...all while pushing you to challenge yourself. Its a very positive atmosphere and all the other members are very welcoming. After every class I leave feeling so great! I def needed a fun yet disciplined type of work out to get closer to my fitness goals. :)
Theres no better place to train than The Underground. Ive done both the Large Group Training classes and Semi-Private Training sessions and absolutely love everything about it. Angel and Jon make you feel super welcome from day one, are meticulous with their programming and exercise form checks and they make it really, really fun! I cant reccomend Boston Underground enough!
If you want an above the bar gym, welcome to BUST. Angel runs a great operation club. He demands high standards not only from his coaches who work with him but from his clients. The workouts are specifically designed for folks who need to work out 3 times a week to twice every two weeks, I tend to fall into both groups.The constant training, supervision and positive encouragement you get here is like no other. The coaches get it.Cleanliness: after working out here for over two years, I task you to try and find a cleaner gym. The team is constantly wiping down equipment after being used and I actually think he spends his day off mopping the floors.Clientele: I have made more friends here in two years than and other gym in 30 plus years. Because of his no attitude approach, everyone walks in with an open mind as you never know what the coaches will throw at you that day.Boston Under Ground Strength is certainly something you look into.
This place is the best! The Coaches are top of the line and can cater to all fitness needs/levels. I bought the intro pack and started out going to Strength Camps twice a week. I needed to get back in the swing of things and couldnt do it on my own. I am officially addicted and go 3 times a week. The other clients are amazing and so much fun - its nice to have a fitness family again. Would 100% recommend Boston Underground Strength Training! Check it out.
I LOVE this program and the guys that run it! The coaching is hand-on and worth every cent. If you are looking for a specialized program where you get personal attention to achieve your fitness goals, then this is for you. I didnt think I could ever manage a 6:00 am fitness class but I actually look forward to going (most mornings)! Highly recommend.
I have been working out at B.U.S.T since they opened last year. Ive done both 1-1 personal training as well as the strength camps. The 1-1 personal training really helped me get back into the swing of things! I must say the strength camps are what I really enjoy. The new workout routines every month are what keep things interesting and me going back for more. Not only are the routines great, the coaches are just as GREAT! They really take the time to work with individuals. They make sure form is correct and folks feel comfortable with any movement. I have some lower back problems and cant always do certain exercises. Right away the coaches are there working with me to adjust or change the movement to ensure what I am doing is not causing any problems to my lower back. Finally, the environment at B.U.S.T is also a big plus! Everyone is very friendly and encouraging (especially when you might not be having the best day!)!I travel all the way from Framingham to attend classes at 6am. It is totally worth it and wouldnt change it!
Going to the gym and not seeing results can be frustrating and discouraging but with Angels and Jons help, the hard work is paying off. This gym is great - the atmosphere is motivating, enough to keep you going but not overwhelmingly intimidating, the coaches are very supportive, always checking your form and helping to correct it. They truly care about your results and success and make it fun. The equipment is clean and well mentioned. Overall, I highly recommend Boston Underground Strength Training!!
What a great gym. Constantly updating routines so members dont get complacent and bored. Always having programs that allow all levels to participate and at the same time still allow each level to push ourselves hard. Angel and Jon do an outstanding job of being involved encouraging all of us through the different stations, correcting where we need it, and keeping the flow moving. Im always leaving class psyched at how good of a workout I just went through.
I have been going to Boston Underground Strength Training for almost three months. Having injured myself several times while lifting on my own, I decided it was time to explore options that offered some level of supervision. I did a Google search in my area, and BUST came up at the top of the list. I read about the owner (Angel) and his motivation for opening up the gym and knew I had to give it a try. After meeting with Angel and checking out the gym, I signed up for a monthly trial, and now I go regularly twice a week. I supplement the workouts with running and other cardio work once a week. I work out less often now than I did on my own, and I am stronger and more toned than ever.The strength camps are composed of full-body exercises that are very challenging, but everyone goes at their own pace and lifts as much as theyre comfortable with. The exercises vary from week to week and completely change every month so the body doesnt get used to a routine, which is probably why this program is so effective. The group size is up to twelve people so the trainers are able to correct your form and provide feedback when needed. All the trainers I have worked with are super positive and encouraging, which is a must for someone like me since I am already hard enough on myself.There are a lot of different options to choose from, including morning and evening group classes as well as private and semi-private sessions. The three group camps that are offered focus on different things: strength, strength and conditioning and interval training. I chose to focus on building strength so I have only attended the strength camps but you can switch it up depending on your needs.Angel has created a very welcoming space where the main focus are his clients. Hes very passionate about teaching and helping everyone reach their full potential. He is always full of energy, and his positive attitude is contagious. I highly recommend BUST to anyone who wants to work out smarter and harder, and whos not afraid to push their limits.

After having my first child I wanted to get my body back in shape, I tried at home workouts but I struggled with form and just the commitment to get it done. When I found BUST I instantly felt home. I met with Angel the owner and he immediately calmed me and got me started, I can do all the workouts and if I need to modify he has taught me that its ok. Angel and Jon are great coaches and really care about your well being and making sure that your doing all the moves safely and correctly. They really helped to re-shape my mindset and I am now a regular member of the 6am club! The team atmosphere of all the members is really quite special. Everyone is super friendly and supportive and I look forward to going everytime!

In the few months I have been attending the strength camps I have increased my strength, but more importantly, I am learning the correct way to perform each exercise, which will help prevent injury. The people are great, the classes will push you, and you will work your butt off and actually have a good time doing it.
I was looking for a change from my mainstream gym & really wanted some guidance by personal trainers. My cousins told me about BUST & I thought Id sign up for the 1x Strength Camp just to try it out. I definitely wasnt disappointed and now Im hooked! Angel, John, & Matt definitely helped me get back into shape (especially for my wedding in September), but best of all theyve created this community where Ive met so many great people. I would 1,000% refer anyone to check it out, especially if theyre looking for a positive lifestyle change!
I have been going to Boston underground for about 2 years now. Im very glad I found this place, probably the best decision I’ve made choosing a gym. Going to a regular gym was just not cutting it for me because I want to find a place where I could get a good sweat in while working out and the strength camps at Boston Underground offers just that if not more. The coaches, Angel and Jon know their stuff and take pride in coaching/training all the members. They push you and motivate you to work hard while making sure you stay healthy and if something is bothering you, they will work with you to modify the training so you can be comfortable and get the most out of it as well. All the members here get along with each other and feed off of each other while training. When you see all the members training really hard, that itself motivates you to work even harder and I think that is what separates Boston Underground from other places.
Phenomenal training facility. The training programs are fun, innovative, and highly effective. I have used a trainer for years, but never have I had as much visible success as with Boston Underground Strength Training. The trainers are highly skilled and educated in their field. I had an injury and they nursed me back to health, while strengthening my body so the injury wouldnt repeat itself. Im grateful I found this place.Additionally, I highly recommend their Strength Camps. They are wonderfully affordable. Each class focuses on a different format (e.g. Strength, conditioning, etc.). The camps alone are more like personal training sessions. Great place... Check it out.
Boston Underground Strength has fantastic trainers and coaches. I’ve been doing their strength camps since January of 2015, and I actually look forward to working out with them (and their clients)! The coaches truly care about your fitness goals. There is sincerity in their interactions with their clients, and they create an encouraging and supportive environment for coaching people of all levels and abilities.The number of participants in a strength camp is kept to a size that allows them to give you the personal attention you need to ensure your form is right to avoid injury and to help you perform at your maximum potential.The workout style, which incorporates both weights and cardio, remind of the strength and conditioning workouts directed by my college trainers years ago. Being able to incorporate weight training back into my routine is a refreshing change of pace, and I feel stronger and have more muscle definition than I have had in years. Get to the Underground!
Amazing place to train! I started strength camps here three weeks ago and I couldnt be happier! The coaches take their time to demonstrate each exercise and focus on each individuals form throughout the camp. I love that there is a combination of strength building and conditioning, where people can work at their own pace but are encouraged to push themselves to a healthy limit. The people who attend the camps are incredibly friendly and supportive, making you feel like you are part of a community. It definitely helps that I leave each camp drenched in sweat and feeling that much stronger. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone regardless of how far along you are on your fitness journey!
If your not working out here than you are crazy. Angel and staff will make sure you get a great sweat in. They can cater to all fitness and health goals. They have unique exercise that help train/rehab all types of injuries. I would 100% recommend Boston Underground Strength to anyone who wants to get fit and feel comfortable doing it!
Very supportive atmosphere, great coaches, and people who work hard. Coaches make sure your form is on point and get you to your goals. I never thought I would be where I am now if it wasnt for this strength training gym. Awesome place I highly recommend if your looking to work hard and have fun while getting stronger. You will leave feeling good every time and ready to go back. The coaches explain each exercise and help each person while still maintaining the small group camps. Very positive place and you will make great training friends along the way!
I had been bouncing around looking for a training facility and/or gym that I felt at home since I moved back to the Boston area from NYC. I randomly heard about BUST from a friend and decided to check it out.After one strength camp I was sold. My husband joined upon my recommendation and now goes more often than me.The level of detail and attention paid to everyone by John and Angel is amazing and their experience and guidance is inspirational.These guys are building a community. Different types of people at different levels but all with the same goal of working towards becoming their best selves. The common goal that everyone has really does feel unifying since the classes are small and very focused. You feel that someone has your back and will push you and in turn want to pay it forward.Working out here inspires me and I’ve never felt better about where I’m headed and who is there to support and guide me.
I cannot say enough good things about Boston Underground Strength. The coaches are amazing, the atmosphere is wonderful and the gym is kept in pristine condition. Boston Underground Strength offers a variety of training options depending on what you are looking for. I have done both the strength camps and am currently doing semi-private training.The strength camps are a great option for just about anyone from a beginner to someone seasoned in their training. Each participant works at his/her own pace so no matter your fitness level, you will get in a really good training session. The group is also limited in size which means each participant receives ample attention from the coaches, Angel and Jon. The camps are set up in a way that the training is periodized over both the week and the month. Thus if you attend the strength camps exclusively, you end up going through a well thought out training program designed to progress you over time. And for those just looking for a good workout, you are guaranteed to get that.I decided to do semi-private training because I was looking to work on some very specific goals. After putting me through a movement screen, Angel wrote a program for me to both help me reach my goals and to work on some of my imbalances. The best part about working with Angel and Jon is that you get so much more than just a workout or a program to do. I have picked up a few bad habits over the years and they are helping me fine tune my movement to ensure I am moving correctly so I can be more efficient and stay injury free.Finally, I have to add that the atmosphere is very welcoming. Going to a new gym/training facility can be an uncomfortable feeling for anyone. But I never once felt uncomfortable when I started training at Boston Underground Strength. I highly recommend the Underground!

For the past 10 months, Angel and Jon have been the main force driving me towards my strength goals. I have been taking semi-private training with them. They quickly made a rapport with me and then kept pushing me in a safe and controlled manner. They would make sure I am using the correct form and a new personalized program every month kept my body warmed up for new challenges.Ive been to a few gyms before BUST, but nothing compares to the kind of results I could see in myself once I started training with these guys! Im so sad that I have to leave them when I moved to Seattle. Hope you guys come over to Seattle soon! Youre the best!
Working out at Boston Underground Strength has changed how I view myself. After being an active college athlete, I hit a slump. I tried different workouts, different plans, different classes but nothing stuck. I gained weight and lost confidence. Then I found Angel and the Underground team. Working out at Boston Underground has been the only thing that has worked for me since being on a team. In fact, I am part of a team; the Boston Underground team. The coaches at the Underground are supportive of your individual goals. They set high expectations and expect you to live up to them. So you do. If youre looking for the yell in your face type of trainer, look elsewhere. If youre looking for a coach to be your partner in meeting your goals, whether they be running a marathon, loosing weight, or getting stronger, then Boston Underground Strength is for you.

A great atmosphere to train and keeps you coming back for more. The coaches are awesome and the people there are very supportive making you feel like you are part of something bigger. I highly recommend this gym.
Semi-Private training at it’s best. Imagine, strength training coaches, IronMan competitors, free ice climbing athletes, weight lifting winners, long distance bike riders, you know JUST the kind of place you’re average chubby 9-5er might want to workout right? You know hang out and do some strength training with these people? Well for my Bride and I the answer has been a definite YES! And I think it might be the place for you too.Yes, there are some amazing athletes at Boston Underground Strength Training (or BUST) but mostly there are people there of all athletic abilities trying to get strong. Be they big, skinny, young or like myself, old. BUST is populated by folks working out together in an atmosphere of collegial support and encouragement - no matter what the strength level. This environment comes from the top down with Angel and John leading the cultural and educational training exercises and development; and they are outstanding at it. Don’t take just my opinion, ask any member and no matter how informed they might be on strength training they will tell you these guys get it. These guys know how to make anyone stronger and healthier.Just take us for example. My wife and I are not the only couple (though we maybe the oldest - I’m 62 and my wife is of undetermined age). There are many couples who make BUST the first stop of their day before work or meet up after to work-out together. And like us the commitment to a healthier life carries through the week and is renewed each and every time we join a session of semi-private training. Yes the real athletes show up, and Yes they are amazing, but they are doing their thing and John and Angel are helping us do our thing. (oh those one legged RDLs).The group classes are a great program, but my wife and I have settled on semi-private training as we are complete novices of what to do at the gym and how to capitalize on it. We share the time with two other members, and together follow the program worked out by Angel and John. Takes an hour. I do it two days a week my wife joins me on the second day. Every time we leave the gym we feel Great, we feel Strong, we feel Healthy. Where else do you go week in and week out where you can say that!Try it my friends, you won’t regret the choice.
My wife and I have been going the the Underground for half a year now as semi-private training clients. I struggle to post a brief review that captures all the positives of training here. Having never really trained before, I was a bit anxious into what my wife was getting me into, but from the first moment I stepped into the gym, Angel and Jon made me feel comfortable. Their approach to developing programs that meet individuals’ needs, whether it be general fitness, strength improvement, goal targets (for me, getting into shape for ski season), or injury support, they go above and beyond to help me feel better not only about my fitness, but overall stress management and health. The individual attention (calling it semi-private does the attention you get each session disservice) with each workout helps you ensure you have the right form, are being pushed appropriately, and are getting the most out of your commitment. If you are even just thinking about adding a training regimen into your life, I can’t stress hard enough you should give this place a chance, and yesterday! The group camps look like a a lot of fun, too.
These guys cater to all your needs. As a combat sports athlete, my training has to simulate that of my sport and these guys are the real deal. If youre looking to get into great shape, do not hesitate to contact these guys! The best in the business!
After spending most of 2015 training for my first Ironman, I decided to use the off season to focus on fixing my body imbalances and increasing my overall strength. I had heard great things about Boston Underground Strength Training so I decided to reach out to Angel and explain what I was looking for. After just one email I knew this was the right gym for me. Not only did Angel know how to fit strength training in with my overall training, he already had ideas for how to fix the imbalances I was struggling with. Yes!After evaluating the options (with Anges help) I decided to do the semi-private training so that I could better focus on my specific goals. The programs Angel and Jon have created for me are definitely challenging but the help and encouragement they offer makes the hour long sessions fly by.I love this gym! Ive been training with Angel and Jon for about 3 months now and I have already started to see significant improvements. I truly enjoy being in the gym and cannot wait to see the positive impact these training sessions have on my 2016 triathlon season.
One month ago I found Boston Undergroung Strength Training in a Google search and I am SO glad I gave it a try! I was feeling frustrated with myself because I couldn’t get motivated to go back to the gym. When I visited the for the first time I fell in love with the workout. Everyone is so supportive and I get out of there feeling like a million bucks. Thank you Angel and Jon for being such great coaches and creating a super positive environment.
