My husband and I went here for the first time to have our taxes done for 2020. Everything seemed fine at first, the preparer we worked with was friendly and said he would keep us posted on the status and let us know if they needed anything else. Once he told me that our taxes were done and ready to be signed I noticed that the return amount was much lower than in previous years and asked why that was if we had no promotions or change in pay and was given some roundabout answer about changes in income (which we thought may have been due to money that the military didnt withhold for 2020.) We were coming up on the deadline to have taxes submitted and my husband was about to go back out to sea so we trusted the accountants and signed (our mistake) only to sit down a few days later and start digging through the papers (because they told us we owed state taxes and I was trying to find the info to pay it) and realize that numbers werent lining up. I called and asked enough probing questions to get them to actually go back and look (obviously he did not care to look over things when I asked about the discrepancy the first time) and they realized that they were missing a form that significantly changed things and that they shouldve asked us for when comparing to our prior years taxes. Mistakes happen and I realize that ultimately we signed them, however, if I knew how to do all the more complicated tax papers I wouldnt have paid over $650 for them to prepare my taxes. The real frustration comes from the nonchalant attitude of the preparer when I first asked questions because things didnt look right and then, once the mistake was brought to their attention, he spoke to me as if they were doing US a favor and submitting the amendment free of charge for THEIR mistake. We never even received an apology from the accountant and had I not found the mistake it wouldve cost us close to $2500, plus, because the amendment is still not fully processed we are unable to receive the child tax credit that we should have on time. Save yourself the headache and go to someone that cares enough to take a second glance and that is worth the price you are paying.

Carole Howland from Baker and McNiff was very helpful when I was having trouble with using Quickbooks. She was able to find the problem quickly. I would recommend them to anyone who uses Quickbooks.
