The first visit Jeffery and Mario did everything in their power to remove the animals from the fireplace but after numerous attempts to get a live squirrel out so they could remove the dead ones they had to refer me to a specialist for the animal removal. They sent two more guys the next day to put my fireplace damper back on and the rain cap back on. And, did an inspection. They explained the repairs in detail that need to be done. I wish I could remember the names. Sorry. These guys are nothing but professionals and they care about their customers! Thanks for all you did. We will call when we are ready to make our repairs happened! A WONDERFUL COMPANY TO DEAL WITH!

Hired them to replace the flashing around my chimney before conducting the cap repairs. He was honest told me the flashing was good, it just needed to be revealed before the chimney repairs were done. Saved me over a grand in repairs.

Recently purchased a home that we removed the wood burning insert to convert back to a regular fireplace. Terry our technician had a job on his hands since it hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time, he did a great job, had it inspected as well and he found some minor issues. Will have a yearly cleaning now for sure, definitely a fire hazard, so glad it’s done.

DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS!!! $224 FOR A GUY TO PRETEND LIKE HES VACUUMING YOUR FIREPLACE!!!After calling a number of sweeps in the Richmond area who were unable to schedule me for a sweep until next year, I called number on the television ad for chimneysweeps.com and schedule an appointment for the following week. The scheduler was kind, and gave me valpac coupon discount even though I didnt have a coupon so the service would cost me $224 dollars - at least $100 over the prices of everyone else I called. She said it was for a sweep and an inspection, even though I only wanted the sweep, but I bit the bullet scheduled it anyway.The day of service was Friday, November 13th, and the sweep called ahead to see if he could arrive early. I said ok. He started of with a sales pitch that he was going to first do an inspection to see if I needed any repairs because he didnt want to waste my money and charge me for a sweep if I couldnt use my fireplace regardless. I told him fine and let him take pictures and returned to my office and resumed working (I work from home). A few mins later, he came back inside with pictures from the roof as well as inside the chimney and reviewed everything. He then told me I needed to get $2500 of work done before he would sweep it and asked me when I wanted to schedule it. I laughed out loud and told him I hired them to come sweep my chimney and clean it out, but agreed to pay for an inspection just because it was part of the promotion. He rebutted with a weak sales turnaround, before agreeing to sweep the chimney.I told him I needed to get back to work and let me know if he needed anything. He setup in side, and I heard the shop vac turn on, and run for a few mins, then heard a ladder outside. I peeked around the corner to see what he was doing and noticed his brushes on the front porch. I assumed he was back on the roof sweeping from up top. Another minute or two later, he came back inside, packed everything up, where upon we then met on my front porch to review and pay up. The guy then went over everything again, offered me a discount of 10% to book by the end of the weekend, and presented me with a quote and a bill for $224.I then told him Id pay him for the inspection but not the sweep because he didnt do anything but pretend to vacuum my firebox. He then got confrontational and stormed back inside to try and show me what he did claiming he had proof on his phone, etc. Being that I did not want to have to call the police or physically throw the man out myself, I gave him a check and asked him to leave. After I left I called the company and told them what happened. I then called my bank and put a stop payment on the check. I also took videos of my inspections afterwards inspecting the fireplace and chimney myself and sent them to another Chimney Sweep who pretty much told me I got scammed.The next day I bought my own brush and shop vac, and did the job myself in just under 2 hours for about $150 in supplies, documenting everything on video.The following week the check ended up clearing anyway (stop payments apparently dont actually work) and so I called the company and after a series of calls they said I wouldnt be getting my money back. I gave them until today to make things right, even after agreeing to pay for the FAKE SCAM OF AN INSPECTION and they rebutted. So online I must now go to warn everyone else to NOT USE chimneysweep.com, A Step in Time Chimney & Roofing.

The technicians were wonderful, they came right when they said they would and could not have been more helpful, efficient, and friendly.

The chimney was as is when we bought the home, it turned out the chimney was capped with a very thin piece of sheet metal that was letting water in and all sorts of other things. Everything was explained and photographed/emailed to me (genius!), the gentlemen that arrived were all friendly and certainly tolerated my questions. Everyone was ready to work. Dillon handled the inspection, with Jeff and Noland doing the actual repairs - very pleased with the quality of work and grateful for the suggestions given to improve our experience. Everyone was exactly on time and I even had a few concerns addressed over the phone a week before my appointment. Work was done in the Richmond/Henrico area, just using the VA Beach address that was on the service report. Thanks again, everyone!

Terry did a great job. He repaired area of suspected leaks and sprayed a water repellent over the whole brick chimney.

James checked our stainless chimney for previous leaks and incorrect install done by another company. He reworked and sealed everything. He explained what was done and took pictures. Very nice job!

I recently had A Step In Time Chimney Sweep come inspect the chimney in our 1940s home. Jeffrey conducted the inspection and then went through several pictures and explaining work that he would recommend be done right away and other items which could present issues down the road but not as time sensitive. He quoted me fees for the various services and repairs on the spot and was knowledgeable about his work. The company is expanding in the Richmond area and I would recommend calling them. Other companies never returned my calls, emails.

I requested a chimney inspection and cleaning. The technicians spent 5 minutes looking at my chimney and 20 minutes in the truck writing up a report stating that they wanted $6,000 for a whole new chimney. The inspection consisted of shining a flashlight into my fireplace and climbing up on the roof to take pictures of the chimney cap. Nothing was removed to inspect. He refused to clean my chimney. I will be getting a second opinion.

Back in 2014 I hired this company to clean our chimney in Virginia Beach . They gave us the bad news that we would need to change the liner in our chimney and a new cap because it was rusted through and could cause a fire. They offered to do the work for around $6k. We didn’t use the fireplace often and asked them to just cap it top and bottom. We paid and they capped it. We recently decided to convert to a gas fireplace and today I ripped out the fireplace and liner. I found no holes, no broken sections. I was impressed with how good the condition of the liner was. I wish I had hired them to replace the liner back then so I could sue! I hired them once and they scammed me right away. Avoid this company. Please don’t let them take advantage of you. I am reporting this to the BBB and will be sharing my story on every site I can find.

Jeffrey came out for a chimney inspection and clearly outlined and priced each issue. He showed us pictures of the damaged areas and emailed those to us later. Between their initial visit and the repair, we changed our mind on one issue and he had no problem taking it off, even though the paperwork was already signed. He even suggested a way of how we may be able to take care of the issue ourselves, which we really appreciated. Would definitely hire again.

The crew was very nice and they worked quickly, very informative about was needed to be fixed . showed picture of all they work completed. I will use them again for sure. prices are reasonable. The only advise i would give is to include the removal of the fireplace ashes.This was explained they did not do this because of their vacuum could not pick up ashes. However it could have been done with a fireplace shovel. This was not a big deal for me to clean up the ashes after they left but i have never had a company not complete this in the past.

Jeff did a great job replacing our chase cover. He sealed all or our vent stacks with rust inhibitor and the cracks in our fireplace panels. Jeff took time to answer all our questions thoroughly. We are very pleased with the work he has done.

Recently purchased my home. Of course within a month I noticed the flex crown was peeling off the top of my chimney. Found a receipt for when the flex crown was installed in Nov 2010. The receipt said there was a 10 year manufacturers warranty. I called Step in Time to inquire about the warranty. I was informed that the material would be covered however I would need to pay for labor which would be $250. Ok, lets do it. I was very surprised that they were able to schedule the work the very next day and I didnt even need to be there since it was an external repair job. The technician took very detailed before and after photos and sent them and the paperwork via email. I provided my credit card information prior to the visit and was charged after the work was complete. Less than 20 hours from first phone call to job completion. I hesitated to call this company because I have heard nothing but how this company has to charge higher prices to cover the huge overhead they have compared to smaller companies. Maybe youre paying higher prices for the quality work and great customer service this company provides. I am a very satisfied customer and am willing to pay a little more for great customer service and a job well done!

I had my chimney cleaned back in 2011 and this company did the best job of any company I had previously used. The wood stove insert was pulled and the entire opening was thoroughly cleaned. No one had done that before! I had no idea it even came out that easily. The entire area was thoroughly vacuumed and the fireplace left in pristine condition.So, these are the people I called to do a chimney cleaning before my house is sold. Rufus Jones, who took my call, was friendly, helpful, and worked with me to keep the cost as low as possible. I expect this job to be just as good as the lastbut it is still in the future.

I needed to have a chimney swept and inspected prior to departure in accordance with our rental agreement. I called on a Friday and got an appointment for Monday (great). Robert, my servicing technician, courtesy-called to let me know he was 15 minutes out from arrival (great x2). He inspected the chimney and told me that although the liner was rusted, the chimney was clean and didnt need sweeping (great x3). Ill give six stars for integrity, since sweeping a clean chimney could have put an easy $100 in his pocket without notice. I was only charged for the inspection. He even wrote on the invoice that chimney does not need sweeping at this time to satisfy property manager requirements. Overall-- courteous, honest, helpful, and prompt. What more would you ask for? Great job!!!

Ray Gessner and his crew were absolutely fantastic. They replaced two chimney flew pipes, the roof flashing around the chimney, some roof shingles and recapped a double chimney for us to stop rain water from coming in to the house and to make the two fireplaces usable again. They also sealed off and pointed up many areas of the existing brick work. They checked the Furnace Chimney and recapped it also to avoid future issues. The entire crew were professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. All of them took the time to explain what they were doing and made us feel extremely comfortable with the job they did. The job was done on time and in budget. They were always on time and got the job done around our schedule and to our convenience. I highly recommend them to anyone. They are great!!!!

I bought my town home in March and I have a fireplace. With intentions of using the fireplace when the weather turns cold I thought it best to have the chimney cleaned. I called A Step In Time and spoke to Mr. Rufus Jones. Mr. Jones was professional and knowledgeable about the services A Step In Time offered. I told him I was a new home owner and wanted my fireplace inspected & cleaned before using it. We discussed prices and I even received a couple of discounts. I was able to make an appointment that best fit my schedule. I received a courtesy call the day before to confirm my appointment. Matt, the service technician, called to confirm that the appointment was still on and that he would be there within 15 minutes.Matt was courteous & professional. He took pictures of the fireplace and chimney to show me what was needed. Then he went about cleaning the fireplace, filling in the cracks and a medium size hole in the fireplace, and resurfacing the cover of the chimney which was badly rusted. We hired them to clean our fireplace. They took a short time to inspect it, and did not clean it. For that we paid $89. We had a coupon for 1/2 off an inspection which I would have used but in the switch to them only inspecting and not cleaning I forgot I had that coupon as I didn’t plan to only have an inspection. I emailed them several times post ‘inspection’ and have yet to receive a response. They left me with a list of $3000 of work I need done. Since no response to emails we decided to go with another company at 1/3 the cost.

I had the most awful chimney situation. The house that I just bought had renters in it for some time. They used the chimney and must have burned the wrong things in it as there was a tremendous amount of buildup on the inside. It had probably never been cleaned. The whole house smelled like smoke as soon as you opened the front door. Robert and Dan worked on cleaning the chimney. Robert worked at my house for 2 days cleaning and repairing broken tiles, cracks, and other repairs. It was a mess before, and now I have a beautifully cleaned and repaired chimney that hardly smells at all! They also cleaned out the gutters. I think the money was well worth all the work that A Step In Time did and I highly recommend this company for all of your chimney needs. They can also help you with roofing and other services as well. Give them a call and let them help you too. You will be very happy you did!

I chose A Sweep In Time over another company I contacted because of the excellent customer service I received from Thomas. Plus, A Sweep In Time scheduled my chimney cleaning for the next day. The other company I called was not friendly and couldnt get me an appointment until three days from the day I called for an appointment. Thomas even showed me how I could save $30 off my cleaning! Jeffery and Savis came by a couple of days ago and replaced my chase cover. It was rusted out and was starting to allow water to drip into my fire place. They were nice enough to put a tarp over the chase to prevent any further water intrusion until the new chase came in. They were very nice and everything looks great. Will use them again.

I would have to say that A step in time chimney sweeps were not only courteous from the 30 minute ahead of arrival time phone call, to their being punctual. But Thomas and his helper Tim took the time to make sure I knew what it was I was paying for by explaining everything they were going to do so that I felt educated in the fireplace and chimney sweeping business. They made sure to show me what things looked like before the started, then explained what they were doing while they did it. I felt very comfortable having them doing the job. Then when they were finished I was shown what my chimney looked like before they replaced the stove insert, so I was assured the job was done correctly. I feel very confident now to use my fireplace without the worry that my house might go up in flames because my chimney wasnt cleaned properly. I can honestly recommend them to anyone I know that has a fireplace and will most definitely be using them in the future for any services to my fireplace and chimney. thanks guys for making this a pleasant first time experience.

Very expensive quotes pricing for chimney sweeping. All other companies in the region offer the service at a lower rate. I called them due to seeing their advertising however now I know why they have all the extra money for advertising.Cant give a negative nor positive eview as I did not use their services. The rep on the phone had an attitude as well when receiving the quote.

Thomas was Excellent, Great customer Service. Was great at explaining any and all issues that he came across and recommendations. Was not at all pushy, like many sales/service places are. I will be using A Step in Time again and again thanks to the professionalism of Thomas.

We have had them out numerous times over the years and have been pleased with their service. Always clean afterwards and they explain what needs to be done if anything additional is needed. Will continue to use them, great service and pleasant experience.

Jeffrey was early for starters! He was very thorough and there were no surprises with the inspection or the cleaning. I would definitely recommend this service to others.

Technician was very nice but they quoted an absurd price. Told me we needed to replace our entire fireplace/chimney for $7,000 when all I wanted was a prefab panel repair. Called another company for a second opinion and described the the initial quote and the they told me there was no reason to replace the chimney and it was pefectly fine other than the panel that needed replacing. Feels like they were trying to take advantage of us.

Charlie showed up at 8:00 am August 14, and worked until just before 9:00 pm. He did a great job, far beyond the call of duty. Great work ethic.

A Step in Time did our chimney inspection for 2 chimneys, as well as cleaned one and put a cap on the other. Great service!!

The sweeps were on time and very professional. They inspected our chimney cap carefully and found no problem. (We had been told by someone else it needed to be replaced for $1000). They cleaned everything thoroughly and did not leave any mess at all. I will be calling them again this year for service.
