Adopts out horses with issues without telling the adopter what the issue is, when called out on the issue they then turn the problem around on the adopters because they were called out. Do not waste your money on this rescue.
Clean and friendly. A very inviting environment
Sadly this “rescue” pulled a OTTB out of a feed lot and upon finding out that the horse had significant soundness issues, they dumped the horse back at the feed lot!! THIS IS NOT HOW RESCUES OPERATE!! The horse was purchased by Alicia Mahar and Circle A for $1400 “with a client in mind” for the horse. When the “client” aka adopter vetted the horse, they found he had severe white line disease, coffin bone rotation, and an old bow. The horse was baseline lame, but was sent to the adopter as an eventing prospect. Circle A did nothing to treat this horse’s white line disease, aside from soaking his foot... no hoof resection was done, etc, and the horse was swiftly in and out of their care. They “rescued” this horse (Jockey Club name Share The Bourbon, - grey 2016 FL bred TB) in April 29th, the horse went to quarantine for a month, and he arrived in Circle A’s care on May 21st. Bourbon was sent to the client/adopter on May 31st. Circle A wasted no time or money whatsoever on this horse. After the client vetted the horse, he was sent back to Circle A, who then reached out to the feed lot and demanded a refund for their “broken goods” and wanted to send the horse back since he was not “sale-able” or rideable. Tar Heel is a feed lot. They broker and sell horses off the lot, they run auctions, and ultimately, they also ship horses to slaughter. What is a feed lot going to do with a lame horse? Shockingly, Tar Heel... the feed lot... not the rescue... attempted to do right by this horse. The rescue failed him, sent him back and washed their hands of him. Circle A returned Bourbon to Tar Heel with his feet in deplorable conditions and super lame. Tar Heel took it upon themselves to have their farrier come out and throw shoes on Bourbon to make him more comfortable. A feed lot did that act of kindness for him... not the rescue. Mind blowing. How ironic. When the client/adopter found out Bourbon was sent back to the feed lot, she did a post about him in hopes to share his vetting results to pass on to whoever ended up with Bourbon. She naively is new to horses and is/was unaware as to the likely fate Bourbon would have met.... and her post about him ultimately brought attention to this “rescue’s” atrocities in their dealings with Share The Bourbon. Alicia and Circle A have been ferociously back peddling in attempt to coverup their massive deception and mistakes. They attempted to get Bourbon back from the feed lot in a last ditch effort to smooth over their wrongdoings. Thankfully, a REAL rescue stepped up to the plate for Share The Bourbon and he will be safe in the care of Noah’s Ark Rescye Project and Sanctuary in Pa. Comically, Circle A has removed their Facebook page within 12hrs of Bourbon’s situation being brought to light... guilty much?? We have seen ALL of the conversations from behind the scenes between Tar Heel Feed Lot and Alicia M of Circle A Home For Horses. It’s ugly. We have also spoken directly to the adopter/client who had Bourbon for almost a week and had the vetting done. We know the whole story, we have seen the proof of Circle A’s disgusting and slimy behavior. They felt it was okay to send this lame horse back to a feed lot because he was at one point (when sound) $1400 and above meat prices... they believed he would just get sent to another auction... auctions where kill buyers fill their slaughter loads. Lame horses don’t sell for much... and certainly are prime pickings for kill buyers. Circle A knowingly sent this horse back to a feed lot... with full knowledge of what kind of heinous fate they liking were condemning him too. In a strange twist of fates, it was the feed lot who did right by this horse. It was the feed lot that got this horse out of the slaughter pipeline and in the hands of a reputable rescue, after the horse was failed by a clearly disreputable “rescue”. Circle A ultimately pulled this horse with donation money in hopes of quickly flipping him... like slimy horse dealers. They didn’t have him long enough to treat or really even assess any of his issues. Nauseating!!
Circle A has been nothing but great. If you ever want to volunteer and be around good people and horses then this is the place.
Absolutely love Circle A and all the good work that they do!!
Sad excuse for a rescue, using rescue funds to buy a horse from a feed lot and later RETURNING said horse back to the feed lot when they discovered the horse had lameness issues and they couldn’t make money off of it. Pathetic.
Not sure what kind of rescue drops a horse back off at a feedlot. 🤷♀️
Loved Alicia and the beautiful horses.
