In my experience of several years now, AAA Vernon Hills has been a consistent resource for reliable automobile service. Most recently, I brought my cars in when other repair shops (a dealer and a tire store respectively) botched or left work incomplete. In both cases, AAA was able to quickly and accurately diagnose the situation, present and explain a concise quote, and complete the service on time. I respect their skills and knowledge base, and appreciate their patience and professionalism.

I took my car in to get an oil change and wiper fluid filled (both lights were on indicating service was needed). I called to make an appointment and stated my 2 main reasons for bringing my car in. I also had a bundle coupon, which included many services for a package price of $100. I thought it was a great deal so I tacked it onto my services and was on my way. Picked up my car and paid the bill, only to realize it was $50 more than it was quoted. Went back to ask why and was told the write up was wrong and there was an incorrect positive sign instead of a negative sign! So I got 50 dollars back (after talking with the manager, since the original customer service guy i spoke with tried to tell me the bill was correct). Alright, first mistake resolved. However, not a day later and my wiper blade fluid light comes back on! Look under the hood and the container is EMPTY!I went in for 2 services. (Oil and fluid)One was done (hopefully), but I got ripped off on the bill and completely ignored for the other service I requested.I ended up just filling the fluid myself. I will not be going back here for service. Nor would I tell anyone to use this business. What a waste of time and money.

The front desk guy do not communicate well and do not consider the offers given by AAA, I experienced it again in my second visit. I dont like it, I wont go again.

The worst experience I had for my car repair service here. My car wont start and I had to tow my car there at AAA Car care service center in Vernon Hills, IL., instead of giving right reason for car not starting they gave me six different estimates for my car all totalling about $2000. When I asked specific question about car not starting they told me its battery is low. I explained to them I have a battery under replacement warranty I will get it done right away, if they can get my car running and I can take my car straight to where I had my battery installed. They didnt do that and instead they charged me whopping $534 for some extra repairs, as according to them the car wont run. I was detained there for almost 3.5 hrs. The mechanic who was working on my car was on his phone most of the time. He even ruined my expensive car key, photo attached here. I am so sorry I would not go back to them again.

I have been bringing my car to them for a while and I have to say the guys are great to deal with and I don’t always like what they tell me but they are honest.

They said they would rotate my Jeep tires for free. When they saw they were 35x12.5 they said they couldnt do it. They ended up doing it for an extra $20.00 and didnt move the spare. The service counter guy was very rude not only to me but the customer before me. Not a fan of the place. If your not in business to serve your customers why are you here?

Staff is great and very informative. Terrific job on my truck and didnt cost me an arm and a leg. Great quality services like a dealership but easy on the pockets. Thats what i like about this place

I wont recommend this place to any one i care.I had my car serviced at this place since last 6 years, they were good but during couple of my recent visits I noticed that they are trying to sell their auto parts and services which is not needed at all.Here is one of the incident. In one of my visit the agent told me that my car batteries needs to be replaced (but I did not do it) but in next visit the other agent told me my batteries are good.Recently I dropped of my keys for regular service and oil change but they just left the keys in drop off box and closed the store. When I called AAA customer care service to report about it, the lady in the other side told me that her manager will call me but no one called me yet.People think because they have AAA membership this place is genuine but it is opposite to it.

Took my car for an oil change here a while ago and a day later my car starting dripping oil all over the street..... wasted so much money adding full synthetic oil in it every day to make sure my engine didn’t lock up. I was told I have an old Cadillac and “they always leak”. I took my car back and had to pay another 75 dollars and wasted hours of my day for a dye test for them to tell me my oil filter housing wasn’t bolted down correctly. I will never come back! Waste of money and time

So hopefully we are successful in giving these guys a five star review for a change.

This is my first ever negative review. It’s not that I’ve never received bad service; just never to this level. Never so bad that I feel compelled to write about it.In November, AAA replaced a part of my car’s suspension. The following August, that same tire was worn on the outer shoulder. Worn to the wires. In order to get another opinion on the matter, I chose to go somewhere else.They lifted the car and showed me a very worn-out part, saying that it needed replacing. Yes: it was the exact same part AAA allegedly replaced! There is absolutely no way the part I was looking at was only 9 months old. They did the work and showed me the new part installed before giving the car back.With the old part in hand, I went to AAA to address the situation. It’s at this point that I expected to be berated for even suggesting the part was never replaced.They didn’t register any shock at my accusations ( I wonder why) other than to say I should have brought the car to them so they could “make it right.” When I was staring at an obviously old and broken part on my car, knowing I paid $500 for that part to be replaced, there was no way I would take it back to them.Their only statement - the one they kept beating me with - was that once the part was removed from my car they want nothing more to do with it. As far as I’m concerned, if someone is back there not doing the work or using shoddy parts, then it’s not above them to charge me to fix it when I call them on it. I would much rather support the local shop I found with much higher ratings.If you’re still reading, I can’t tell you to not take your car to AAA for service. But if you do, make sure you can inspect the work before they give your car back. And if they are supposed to rotate your tires, mark the tires first so you know whether they actually did the work.An aside: I’ve been a AAA member for as long as I’ve been driving. I have home and auto insurance. The front staff at the Vernon Hills office is great and helpful. Their excellent service is tainted by their proximity to a questionable auto shop.

Always a great experience at the Vernon Hills AAA. Octavio was very pleasant to deal with and explained everything. The technician Adam did my oil change and it was done very quick! They also have a very comfortable waiting area.

I am a AAA member and have been for years. I went in because my brakes were making a noise and while i was there i got a quote on insurance. Quote is $400 less than i am paying with Allstate and it has better coverage. I didnt need brakes as it turns out just some rust on the rotors. Bo was really a great guy to deal with and i will be back. Thanks AAA!!!

It was super easy to get my international drivers permit for Europe there. $20 for a year. You will need passport pictures, but some memberships cover that.

I was encouraged by a friend to join AAA as I am a single mom best thing I ever did when I needed service the office staff is amazingly helpful genuine upbeat very refreshing they went over and above to help and make sure I got the best price best discounts.

Took my vehicle here to get over $700 of work completed including drive belt. The next day there was very loud sound coming from drive belt. I had to have the vehicle towed back to AAA. They fixed the issue which was that is was not installed correctly. The person at the desk was not very friendly lacking good customer service skills. They only offered $30 for future visit and when I spoke to manager he increased it to $50 and said he was going to mail it to me but I never received it for whatever reason. I was interested in making this facility the place I take my cars. I think I will be looking for another place.

For some time now we have been working with John Nilles with AAA. He is great. John is friendly, attentive, and he ALWAYS returns calls in a timely manner. I feel like I am in good hands with him and the AAA team. Recently, my husband was involved in an accident and the entire process ran so smoothly. I couldnt have asked for a better experience. The entire team of AAA staff was so helpful and caring. I wish I could remember every single person we worked with, but they were all fantastic. Everyone took their time with us and a lot of it was just taken care of for us. I had little to no interaction with other services, the representative handled everything. I am so grateful for all of their help and hard work. It definitely eased the stress of a bad situation.

Love the guys here! From the waiting area you can see your car being worked on. Sales staff are extremely helpful and offering choice about needed repairs - plus they have water and wifi while you wait. I have taken my car here for about 2 years and always get the best results not to mentioned warranty parts. My 2004 Big Blue Tahoe enjoys the tender loving care.

Took my car here dude to an abs and car stuttering issue. They told me my battery was bad, throttle body needed to be replaced and my oil pan urgently needed a new replacement part.They quoted me over $1500 for the work. I didn’t go through with any of it and ended up replacing the Throttlebody and it did not fix my issue. SHADY PLACE TRYING TO SELL THEIR PARTS AND SERVICES.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff make this a good place to go when one is seeking AAA services. They were able to help me plan an itinerary for a trip I was taking with my grandfather across the United States, including recommended attractions, hotels, and providing booklets containing helpful information regarding each state we visited.

This location has helped us with simple maintainence, such as tire rotations; as well as more invasive repairs like a starter replacement. These guys are great!

One should avoid considering this dealer - Cleverly deceive by portraying wrong quotes to consider their services. Offer a price they do not adhere to by playing around with the words and ends as a surprise on the monthly premiums. Hate this service. i can provide more legitimate details if required!

Called for a jump start at my house, gentleman came and said my battery was fine but my fuel lines were frozen. He then got on the car and tried to fix the issue by pressing the gas pedal while turning the key. About 5 minutes of trying this he got upset, handed me the key and said “call a tow, you will realize how not to make this mistake again when you have to pay $800 to fix this”. I later found out i myself can fix the issue for much cheaper. Extremely unprofessional experience.

I am completely unsatisfied, disappointed and upset with the service I was provided. AAA sent me coupon for free oil change and tire rotation. I went to the Vernon Hills,IL facility at 11:45AM and told the associate that I just need a oil change and no tire rotation and nothing else. After more than an hour the associate took me to the car and showed that the Radiator Pipe was broken. The most unsatisfactory explanation given by him was that the mechanic was doing inspection of the car and found some leak of coolant and while trying to fix it, the Pipe was broken. Because they dont carry parts, he called somewhere and told me to wait. While waiting, I checked on line and found the part was available in the market for about $16.00. To my surprise the associate quoted to me $132.00 to fix the car that included $37.00 for the part and $82.00 for the labor and taxes. I was so mad and told the guy that I will not pay for the labor but just for the part because they had broken the part. After arguing for over 10 minutes he agreed not to charge me for labor. Then I waited for ever (4 Hours) for the mechanic to fix the car. They deliberately made me wait for such a long time. Finally, my car was fixed at 4:45PM and they charged me $44.00. Next morning I checked my car and found out that they did not fill coolant or even the windshield cleaning water in my car. Contrary to this, when I take my car to the dealership or any other place for oil change and for any other issue, they make sure that all the fluids are filled.I think, their goal is to attract the customers with free coupons and then charge them extensively with one reason or the other to make the shop profitable.

If you like crappy, incompetent service and wasting your time/money then this is the place for you. Being a AAA member I thought Id give this place a shot so I made an appointment and dropped my Jeep off to replace what I thought was a problem with one of the u-joints on the front driveshaft. When dropping it off just before 8am I specifically offered to do a ride along and show the service manager and/or mechanic the chirping/squealing that was the issue. They declined my offer to do so. They also assured me that I should be able to have my Jeep back the same day. 5.5 hours go by and I hear nothing so I call to check on the status (normally a shop has to call you to authorize charges before any work is done). After a long hold Im told that they need me to come to the shop to do a ride along. At this point Im pretty livid - I specifically asked about doing a ride along when I dropped off the Jeep and I had to CALL THEM in order to prompt a response. From what it sounded like, they hadnt done a single thing with my Jeep all day and just were looking to buy more time. I went in and expressed my frustration with the service manager whom I spoke with in the morning. No apologies, only excuses then came from his mouth. I promptly took my keys back and drove to another shop in the area that I had been using for years. Unfortunately, by that point, most of the day had already been wasted so now Im without a car until the other shop can squeeze me in. There wasnt a chance that AAA Car Care Plus was going to be able to complete the repair anyway though and, in all likelihood, they wouldve done a sub-par job so I probably dodged a different bullet there. In short, dont even bother trying this shop. The concept of AAA opening up these repair facilities is great but the execution leaves much to be desired in terms of basic auto service and repair. Youre better off going someplace else.

Cant help me

I just stopped by here on my lunch break to put air in my tire (I work across the street). I pulled up to the free air parking spot and almost as soon as I got out of my car a gentleman by the name of Mike came out to actually assist me. I am 8 months pregnant and would have been a sight to see squatting or bending down to fill the air but Mike immediately offered to fill the tire for me. Not only that, but he checked all of my other tires and then had me back up to properly assess the original tire for damage. He went above and beyond for me today and this AAA has found a new customer because of it. Thank you Mike, your kindness is appreciated you didnt have to offer to help me but you did and I am grateful!

The Agents for Auto Insurance do not care for any kind of Business. They don’t want to help you in any manner. They give you some quote and when you want that to be activated, they would increase the Prices on you and will give you millions of excuses. They don’t care even if you are AAA Member for years or decades.Would not recommend this place at all.

Last time, I received a free coupon for oil change. When I went it got delayed in giving on time, and they charged me nothing.Happy with the service, only concern that they try to sell but I understand its there business but honesty only earns good business, rest temporary.

Excellent service and attention to detail but a bit pricey in my opinion.

The expected pressured up sell regardless of whether you come in for the free oil change as an AAA member, or for a service such as brake repair.Repairs are dependable but not the estimates conveyed by phone when they contact you. Recently the complete out the door price for brakes didnt include the $62 brake blush not mentioned. The out the door price for a battery did not include the $11.00 cable cleaning, and the air filter installation and labor for $30 which was clearly declined was installed anyway. Do not count on using the coupons sent to you in the mail for 10% off recommended services. When you get there to pay they will have already given you a lesser discount that was included (surprise!) and your coupon will be useless. Overall quick and dependable repairs but the expected shady practices and over the top recommendations for unneeded add on service.

My wife drove too long on a flat tire which destroyed the wheel. I live in Grayslake and attempted to find a used wheel for a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. Finally found one on the west side of Chicago. I got the wheel, went to a used tire shop, they mounted a used tire on the wheel, checked for any air leaks using the soapy water method, then balanced the tire on a balancing machine. My wife had a coupon for a free oil change at the AAA in Vernon Hills. I suggested that while there to have the technician swap the space saver spare tire on the car for the tire I just bought. I told her that they might ask for $10.00 and to just pay it. It turned out that when they removed the spare, they discovered the wheel bearing was shot, also she needed a full brake job with new rotors. My wife declined the advice to have it replaced until she checked with me. They made her sign a waiver absolving AAA of any responsibility. When I saw the invoice, I noticed she was charged $25.00 for tire repair. With my blood boiling, I called the shop and asked about the tire repair. They told me they found a hole in the tire and they had to balance it. I told them that was b.s. and that I just purchased that tire used, had it checked and balanced at a reputable shop. They also told me the wheel bearing would cost $462.00 to replace. Well I went to Auto Zone and paid $80.00 for the bearing and my local mechanic charged me $80.00 to install it for a total of $160.00. My mechanic also told me the brakes looked fine! AAA in Vernon Hills reeks of dishonesty and I would give them ZERO stars if I could!

Jackie was especially friendly, and she is always very helpful, even when my children visited to get a map (without me).

I came there for oil change, and they told me I had only 1 millimeter left on my front brake pads and that I must replace the immediately.I went to Toyota dealer across the street, and they measured the pads in front of me to be 5 mm. Otherwise, the oil change was fine.Be aware for unnecessary and very costly repair suggestions.

I got a free coupon for a free oil change & tire rotation / after waiting for an hour or so I had to return as they didnt have the filter, nor did they bother to rotate the tires. So when I returned I was charged $10, I believe that was for the premium oil but stated they would do something for my inconvenience, maybe that was a discount on the oil, I dont know. I suspect next time I get a coupon it my be to pay me : ) I dont know if Id go, or at least I would plan on waiting.

I took my niece there as her brakes went out. They diagnosed and fixed all her car problems very efficiently. I would highly recommend!

I called to get information on travel. Lady who answered the call seemed to not want my service. I told her what I was looking for and she kept saying well we have a service fee to book airline tickets I said thats fine and then she goes, but the fee is for every person. I said thats fine. I am looking for the travel agent to make our trip arrangements and if there is a feee I am ok with it. Then she proceeds to tell me that aaa doesnt give you any discounts on flights. I am not a members so I am not sure what the benefits are. She then says being a member only gets you a small discount on some hotels. Way to sell the service lady!!! I am somewhat disappointed as Ive heard good things about AAA as a company.

I dont know how else to explain my feelings besides disappointment and anger from just how bad the car service here is. First of all I came in for a free oil change and ended up having to pay 800 dollars because they wanted to fix the compressor and theres no better way to keep a customer other than making their car undrivable so that they have to stay and pay up for the fixes. Not only did they practically force me to pay 800 dollars just so I could have my car back they also never called me when my car was fixed so I never knew when to come in to fix my car even though I gave them my phone number. I only found out my car was ready when I called twice because the first time they hung up on me. And the people I talked to were extremely rude to me when I was only asking questions because I am a new driver. I can only say this for the car service but it was the worst experience Ive had in a long time.

Took an hour just for my car to even be put in the garage and paid way more than I would have at a dealer. Was told one price at the beginning and ended up paying more than told.

If I could I would give no stars. Customers service is awful, the claim department Telisa Thomas is rude and not helpful at all. It took over a month to make a decision on my claim going back and forth what they were responsible for it and only happen because I spoke with her supervisor. I would never have a triple a as insurance.

As a AAA member, I received a coupon for a free oil & filter change with tire rotation. I usually have this done at the Ford dealer, but free is free. This is the first AAA Car Care Plus in the Midwest. I was impressed with the buildings layout as I parked. Glass doors, open and airy, clean, and even smelled new. I had called Tom in the morning to ask if I needed an appointment and he said to just come in. He took care of the paperwork quickly and I turned over my keys. Free coffee, free bottled water, snacks for purchase, and a nice waiting area (with kids area and toys and books). I was anticipating sales pitches from all the other AAA sections at their desks in the building. Besides the auto repair (which anyone can use, not just AAA members - although we do get a discount), there is AAAs roadside service, insurance, banking, and travel. I did get one, Excuse me sir, would you be interested in...? But, I cut it off with, Im good, thanks and walked away. On my own, I did browse some travel literature and then I asked some vacation questions and received answers and prices. No pressure though since I just wanted info. When my cars oil change and tire rotation was done (the free coupon was for five quarts of oil and my car took six, so I had to pay $5 for the extra quart of oil...understandable), I was told I had two center-high-mount-stoplight bulbs (out of three) out. My Ford dealer had been pushing for a fuel injection/intake/throttle body cleaning for several visits and Tom recommended it as well. I decided it was time to have it done to my 87,000 mile car. He said it would take 45 minutes while hooked up to the machine. I walked over to Lowes (there is also a Marianos just as close) and looked around. My car was ready 45 minutes later as promised. Friendly service in a friendly environment. I was pleased with the service and my car was still clean inside (I hate when mechanics leave oily handprints all over my cars tan interior). Its great to see all the people employed by AAA at this facility. Valvoline oil products and NAPA too. Id go back for any car service. Their prices beat the dealers by a few dollars and AAA membership saves a couple more bucks as well.

I came there for oil change, and they/Jesse told me I had only 3/32 tire tread left and it was time to replace my tires.I went to Sears, and they ran an electronic test and printout, and my tires had 5/32 to 6/32 left, i.e. half of their life left in them.While I realize that auto shops often suggest premature and/or unnecessary repair, this was a bad and dishonest advice.I will try to stay away from them.
