I use this gym but lately the showers have been abandoned. I don’t think they have been washed in over two weeks. People depend on this shower so they they don’t have to go home before heading to work. It’s not fair. We pay for this service. Use the money to good use.

Very friendly and welcoming staff at this location. Kinda crowed with high school and college kids but I guess its good to see them doing something beneficial & productive

Love PF!! I hit the gym when traveling for work, and there are multiple PF in the Des Moines area. This PF is my favorite in the area! I would recommend to anyone looking in the DSM area. I have been to others and this Location is hands down the best, they are very friendly and the gym is comfortable.

I work out 3 days per week. A great facility. Has everything I need.

Nice new equipment and right across the street from the supermarket, a big plus.A big drawback is sanitation. Was there on a August weekend and Only a couple of bottles of hand sanitizer near the front of the gym, none in the back. And the bottles were empty. Also a few too many people not cleaning machines when theyre done. Might return as both matters are easily correctable

The gym facilities are great, their hygen, and customer services very good and then most users too from my observation adhere to safety and hygen rules. I personally, feel good using Planet Fitness and has made huge success owing to my workout programmes and results. Its great here and am well motivated everyday I get in to keep new records.

Love working out here. The app has a merer that tells you how busy it is. Locker rooms and showers are very clean. Personal training is free for members and that was great to set up my workiuts.

It would be a good idea to have one employee designated to cleaning/sanitizing the machines constantly. Members do not wipe off the machines when they are finished using them.

My first day back after receiving my second vaccination. Protocols are in place for social distancing, mask-wearing when you are not working out, and everyone seems diligent about wiping down equipment. Good day!

1 star because the employee said i have to be 13 like wth I just wanna lose weight I dont wanna be 200 pounds or 160 Why I cant use these machines i am now obese I just want to be here and be skinny again

Always clean. Super nice and I feel comfortable. Plenty of space for safe workout. Large parkinglot.Healthy food options nearby.A great place for you to become greater.

This gym is always super busy so if you dont like a full gym then this might not be the place for you. The staff is always very friendly. The facilities are clean and the equipment is newer. There are only smith machines for benching, deadlifts etc. No squat racks or Olympic style barbells are available. There is a small barbell rack with straight bars and v-bars up to 60lbs. available. The price for membership is very affordable 👌

Very nice place! The guy working at the front desk, Jordan, was very kind. He was very helpful and should get a raise!!! He has a nice smile too.

I love their affordable prices and its nice cuz you have access to all their equipment and if you have the black membership you can get massages and tans and more I definitely love the biking machines and they have the TV so I can watch it while Im working out I would recommend this place and its nothing like the bright colors that give me motivation to work out would recommend

I highly recommend getting a membership here! Everything is VERY clean and the employees are super friendly. Its got a lot of machines and equipment, and the locker rooms are very spacious. If you are considering just do it!

A great Planet Fitness location. Very clean gym and friendly staff, couldnt ask for more. Glad to see the common sense approach on when to wear a mask, which does NOT include while working which is the right decision.For the mask complainers: If your that worried about the virus; stay home its just that simple.Keep up the great work, we appreciate you guys!!

Clean and spacious facility- much bigger than the location on grand avenue in West Des Moines. There is much more space in their “stretching” room which I love. It can get crowded during the after work times but you can check how busy it is if you use the new crowd meter function in the planet fitness app before going- I find this very useful and love that they have this now. I do wish they gave people a personal spray bottle and rag (that people then give back to the facility once they leave) to carry around to disinfect machines like some other gyms but I understand the difficulties of this.

Staff kept checking on me - annoying

They dont take temps when people come in.All of their hand sanitizer dispensers were either broken or out of sanitizer There was no disinfectant in the shower areas to clean the showers.The shower curtains are too small and dont cover the opening.The shower pressure was almost non existent.Because I travel all over the country and am able to see how good some of these PFs can be, it was really gross going into one that doesnt care about their customers.In response to Planet Fitnesses comment on my review, my response is this is not my job Planet Fitness. This is your job to make sure this is done so that you dont get the complaints.Being safe in a pandemic should be on your agenda at all times.

Great place to workout. However, they are not very strict with facemask. I recently moved from Washington DC and DC planet fitness was very strict with the facemask. I went in early this morning and some people wore facemask and some didnt. Theres people that would walk around with no covering, just a heads up.

I actually loved this Planet Fitness, best overall. I went there to Tan. I have been to all the other P.F locations in Des Moines so this was my first time at this Planet Fitness. It was most modern, very clean, most equipment & best tanning beds. The customer service was the absolute worst! He was sarcastic, rude & made it perfectly clear he had no idea what I was talking about when I requested a certain bed the other locations only have 1 of, he said he has no idea, he dont tan since hes black. Ok, well you DO WORK HERE so knowledge yourself. Maybe he thinks he is cool, but I just kept thinking he really should choose another profession.

Good clean gym, nice staff

It is my first time at a gym and I had no one there show me what to do. Spent a long time just trying to pick a machine. Did well wish cleaning and social distance but I wish they were a bit more helpful with new members.

It was great, I ran 300 miles, then I did 4000 pushups

I love the size and amount of machines here. The massage chairs are great! For the price of the black card membership, its pretty good! Parking can be tricky though with a big lot.

Very happy to hear that Planet Fitness would be requiring masks when working out, but when we got there, most were not. Turns out that masks are required only in certain areas, and that wasnt monitored. Staff does a great job wiping things down, but theres the mask problem. Thats disappointing.

I was in shower and they turn off all lights at 7 pmNo body went to lockers to check if someone else was there.I almost had an accident trying to get out of the shower with absolutely no light.They left the place and doors unlock.Very rude attitude!!!

She has been nothing but welcoming, kind, courteous, and will make sure your visit is a good one! I dont know who to talk to, but she deserves a raise!!!

Planet Fitness is a great choice because it has almost everything I want in a gym. To make it my ideal gym, there would be a sauna and free weight squat rack (they have Smith machines). It’s convenient and affordable to help me reach my goals!

First impression was okay. Wish I was given a tour, but I did go in on a Sunday.... probably my bad.

I had reservations about going to the gym concerning Covid-19. I went in with the intent of freezing my account. Through some failures in communication we had some issues and I left pretty unhappy. However, the owner contacted me, heard me out and my concerns, and helped me find a solution that would work well for both of us. I’m not ready to return to the gym yet during these times, but I know that I am taken care of when I do. Thank you to the owner for working with me and hearing me out.

First time back after 5 months (COVID). Cardio equipment is spaced out. Staff had masks. Hand sanitizer pumps everywhere. Masks required for patrons in common areas but not while on the equipment. I was hesitant to go back, but it seemed fine once I was there. I think the small number of people there exercising made the biggest difference for me. Ill be going back soon but will keep an open mind about adjusting my workout time if needed.

Super busy when I was there but even with socially distanced equipment; I had no issue getting what I needed.

Love Planet Fitness, so glad I joined. Facility is kept clean. Staff is friendly. It’s truly judgement free every one is kind to one another no matter what stage you are at.

I absolutely love this gym, it has an array of fitness machines to work out with from the beginnings all the way to the advanced. No one bothers you which helps keep you in your zone and the Hydromassage and the Total Body Enhancement is life.

Nice casual atmosphere. Cheap. Machines are in good shape. Free weights are in good shape. The place is always clean. The tanning beds are good but showing some wear. Great display of TVs. Park8ngbis good.

This is a clean and comfortable atmosphere. It’s nice to go somewhere to workout and not be judged. Everyone is nice and helpful.

I concur with the difficulty in trying to cancel your membership. I currently reside in Urbandale but established my membership at the Southside location but havent lived on that side of town for over 3 years. Months ago I asked a rep with the Urbandale location to update my file to reflect this location as my home gym and was advised there was no need as all the Iowa locations are under the same owner. Now that I want to cancel Im sorely inconvenienced and have to spend time and gas to go all the way across town.There have been multiple times when Ive had questions or concerns and have left very detailed voice messages asking for a returned call with no response. The service is sufficient at my visits to the gym but running a business means quality service 24/7 which this location lacks. If I had any hesitation about canceling my membership after this experience all the hesitation has dissolved at this point.After things with COVID-19 begin to resolve I will GLADLY take my business elsewhere.

Would be better if the teens were monitored better. They seem to feel like it’s just a hang out. With leaving machines w/o cleaning, weights left on the floor and being loud and usually in some odd outfit or in jeans and crazy accessories. The staff doesn’t do anything to correct them.

I was fine with the gym until I decided to cancelled and they wouldn’t refund me a service that I did not received. I didn’t even know the gym opened back after COVID because they failed to informe me. You would think that they would have the decency of at least sending me an email. Also the reason I learned. About them closing the first time was because I went there and the door was closed. This lack of communication is a problem I didn’t have at my Tennessee location and is the reason I cancelled.

This is basically a nice gym, however they sold me a membership stating that I could bring a buddy and that my buddy could use everything except for the tanning beds. This held true for 3 months, then suddenly they said my buddy could no longer use any of the extras. They got me to sign by saying one thing then changed policy. I should be getting exactly what I was sold....!!!

I really enjoy this location and the facility! Just leaving 1 star because of staff. They could really use more people up at the front and they should work on their customer service skills.

I was looking for an inexpensive place to exercise. I dont need classes, smoothie bars or a water massage. My apprehension was their policy of direct access to a checking account. Funny thing is they had no problem taking my CC for the membership fee. :-(Within several months I was charged again for membership. While I expected to be charged again I was expecting it to be after the new year as per their website. When I spoke to the person at the desk they brushed it off. No offer to look into it, etc. Once I obtained the agreement number. Surprisingly they dont give you that number when you join, nor do they give you any of the contract info. I was able to access the website and review. While the payment seems correct, their inability to explain or offer assistance is frustrating.As for the gym itself, it lacks a few machines, but I can live with that the cleanliness is only if you dont look to close. A little disappointing that a fair amount of the patrons dont follow gym etiquette.

This facility is very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. They have all the equipment and dumbbells that you need to pursue your goals and become a better version of yourself. I appreciate the fact that as a black card member I have the option of taking along my thirteen year old daughter who is slowly easing her way into weight lifting. They also have protein drinks ( Muscle Milk) which allows you to replenish your body and begin the process of repairing your muscles as soon as you are finished with your workout. They have locks available for purchase so that you can secure your belongings during your workout. They also have water bottles, towels, gym bags and other accessories for purchase if you need those items. My overall experience thus far has been a ten. The owners of this facility deserve a pat on the back for providing an exceptional service to the community.

I have a great trainer working with me on my workout routine since my shoulder reconstruction surgery. Dean is doing a great job and has shown me several successful ways to improve my shoulder. The facility is very clean and never over crowded. Great hydro massage machines help loosen you up after workout s!

Since day one of me joining, the staff had been super helpful and informative. The place is clean and even though it’s usually busy by the time i go, i still feel like there is plenty of machines/equipment available for me to use.

I love this gym never had any issues and you can’t beat the price you get everything the only thing that is missing is a sauna that would be the best thing to add to it. Other then that it’s a great place and the staff have always been nice and friendly to me.

Seems to be a very clean facility but the first time I walked in the doors I was greeted and given my key card but I wasnt shown around at all so I had to ask where the locker room was and how tanning worked. When I tanned for the first time I wasnt told if I had to clean my own bed or not or shown where the beds were. Sometimes the staff is very warm and welcoming but on occasion there are a couple that dont seem like they really care or want to be there. Overall, I can go, workout, and tan with minimal hassle.

I was told to just go and check this place out, even though I dont like to go to the gym or usually keep a membership very long. Wow, what a clean well lit place with all new equipment. 24 TV to watch that keeps you mind off what you are doing. $10/mo make me feel like if I used the equipment 2 times a month I got my money out of it, but I have been going 2-3 times a week. The trainer that signed us up was very honest, and outgoing, great staff. Thanks PF, keep up the positive image!

Great Place!

Cant really beat the price. Has all the basics for $10 a month. And no contract, so can always switch gyms if decide you need more weight options down the road. Facilities seem to be generally clean and so far havent had to wait for anything. Group classes are limited, if thats youre thing.

Good environment, the staff greets you when you walk in and wishes you a good day when you walk out. Everything seems clean and new. And you can’t beat the membership price. I would recommend this place to my friends.

The gym has great equipment and is very clean. When I signed up for my black card membership I was told I could bring a buddy with me anytime I came to work out. I was told they would have access to all the equipment, except the tanning beds. For the first 3 months this was true, but then all of a sudden they changed the rules and my buddy is no longer allowed to use the hydro massage beds. Im still being charged the same, but they took away benefits. This is both misleading and false advertising. They should stand behind their contract promises. I feel this tarnishes their reputation as a reputable business. Original terms of contracts should be honored, any new standards should apply to new memberships.

Thats one of the best deals out there!!! Black card deal is amazing because it gives you an access to the hydromasages, tanning beds, and special infrared bed. And it is all for 25 bucks including taxes!!! All equipment is good and well maintained. The only slight critical note, the bikes could be maintained a little bit better because every revolution some of them expel the crack sounds. It is not going to interfere your workout on them, but the sound is unpleasant, it sounds like your knees cracking...The staff is very friendly and helpful with whatever you need there. Also, it is a true judge free zone in there. People of all physical levels come and try hard to look and feel better.

Love The Planet! I start with tanning. Im concerned more with range-of-motion so I stretch 20 mins, some toning, then a comfortable shower. Its great how Planet Fitness helps me as a truckdriver with their multiple stores across the country. And I dont feel like Im looked down upon there. Join the Planet - go to The Planet!!

The staff is friendly and always there to help with any questions. The members are nj very as well. They truly make you feel like you are in a judge free zone. Which is spectacular when you are newer to working out like I am.

Planet Fitnesss new gym is nice. I love the equipment and pricing, but some of the clientele like to takeover some of the equipment. It is super frustrating when you would like to use a piece of equipment and a member is sitting on the equipment, playing with their phone and not exercising. Also, a few members that will not wipe down the equipment when they are done using it.

Always clean. The showers get great tempsWell maintained.

I had been searching for a gym for several weeks. It is large enough that I can go in and out without feeling obvious, machines are always available, staff is friendly, everything is super clean, etc. I feel like i hit the jackpot getting this membership for $20 / month, and the best part is that I can take a friend anytime I go for no extra charge. Love it. I have been a member at Aspen, Lifetime Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness...and I would rate Planet Fitness top because of price, value, friendliness, availability of machines and cleanliness.

Less than $25 bucks a month you get all the tools you need to reach goals and create a healthy lifestyle. And the fact they are open Monday-Friday 24/7 is even better. I work funky hours and need a 24/7 gym during the week so I can stay active and this gym allows me to do just that. Place is always clean equipment is new/well maintained. The staff on the overnight shift are very friendly and helpful. Only thing I could even say as a change or fix is how does a gym not have a scale? People need to be able to track progress via weight loss or weight gains other than that 5 stars.

Terrible Business practices in my opinion. Been a customer for years and asked to move my more expensive monthly membership down to the lower monthly fee. General Manager told me I have to sign up again and pay a new joining fee. Unbelievable. Would not recommend doing business with someone with this kind of inflexible policy.

So my rating is based on 2 thoughts actually. First, the gym itself Id give 4 star. Nothing is perfect but compared to most its clean, and not intimidating to workout.Second, the staff Id give a 1 star. I havent been going there long, but the staff are VERY unfriendly, especially the petite blond girl with dark glasses (didnt see a name tag). Generally when a patron approaches the counter, you should do so as well instead of standing back far off leaning on the wall with your arms folded and quip replies to questions. Just a thought....anyway, shes not the only one but Im starting to see a pattern since moving to Iowa so maybe its just the norm here in general.
