Coach Colin Nichols is an amazing instructor, with seemingly endless patience with both me and my two young boys. Hes very good at explaining things clearly, as well as maintaining a perfect balance of fun and that martial arts kind of discipline. My kids and I are loving it, although its definitely work! He always makes time for each individual in both adult and junior classes, and we go as often as we can. I feel valued and respected, and the work is as challenging as I make it. My classmates were super friendly to me too, welcoming me with open arms, & I already consider them friends. Im looking forward to becoming stronger and more confident.One year later: Still very pleased with the instruction, management and overall environment of this school. We train as a family (class times are right next to each other) 4 or 5 times a week, and weve made lots of very real friends here. I feel stronger, safer and happier being physically active. If youre thinking about it, do yourself a favor and give it a try! I feel so blessed to have found it.

My daughter has been at this location for a little over a year now. She practically begs me to take her to class! The teachers are amazing with kids and do an excellent job teaching. I also partake in their kickboxing program and I love every thing about it. It really has pushed my weightloss journey and has helped me overcome some of my anxiety. we are truly blessed to have found Gracie Barra.

Tim Thompson truly cares about his Staff and Instructors with this being a core principle in how he handles daily operations the kindness, focus and drive to offer an Awesome experience and always deliver to the students, I can truly say they are above par and cannot wait to see thier inevitable growth, the best part is teaching others self defense, discipline, and for anyone involved you can be automatically surrounded by great character. Professor Valerio and all the coaches are top notch. This is the nice thing about Gracie Barra. Every Gracie Barra coach and professor has to be certified periodically on the techniques. AND there is a set curriculum that is the same at every Gracie Barra school. The idea is that you do not have any major weak spots in your jiu jitsu. Combine that with a clean gym and friendly atmosphere, and you get GB Tyler. 100% Recommend.

I am a 45 year old professional who has been interested in Jiu Jitsu for several years now, but never followed through until last year. I looked at the available schools in the area and trained for a couple of weeks at one of the others, but ultimately chose Gracie Barra as my Jiu Jitsu home. There was nothing wrong with the other schools, they just were not a fit for my wants, needs, or schedule. Being on the older side of the students, I was not looking for an MMA gym, but a Jiu Jitsu gym where I could learn the technical aspects of the sport, and learn self-defense techniques as well. The Gracie Barra curriculum is a globally utilized curriculum which meets all these needs. My fellow students are all class-acts. Everyone is respectful and conscious of individual abilities, and smashing new/inexperienced students is not something of which I have seen, or been on the losing end. The facility is VERY clean, the atmosphere is always positive, and families are welcome and should not be wary of the language or behavior their children might encounter. The owner, Coach Tim, is very approachable and his number 1 concern is for the students. The head instructor, Professor Valerio, is a highly decorated 1st degree black belt, who is an incredible detail/results driven instructor.

I always wanted to wrestle in high school and never had the opportunity. I also always wanted to take a grappling type of martial arts but ended up taking other styles. I finally have found a home here at Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Professor Mauro and Coach Tim are great. They are great people and teachers. I enjoy the class and my only regret is that I have a job that keeps me from going as much as I really want to. It make me wish that I started doing this when I was in Highschool. It is great for women and others who feel their size is an issue with self defense. My daughter is more than 100lbs less than me and was able to flip me with ease. The atmosphere and the people are great. The Teaching is also patient and they practice safety at all times during instruction. Thanks Coaches- Jerome and Imahn.

All the people here are professional,friendly, and really good to the kids. I have three of my kids here and they love it they feel safe while they learn all the techniques and the coaches are really patient with each child. Totally recommended to other parents!

Gracie Barra Tyler is an excellent place to train. I have been training a little over a year, had no experience and have always been treated as an important part of the team. The coachs and instructors are very good at what they do, They express the Gracie Barra mind set, jiu-jitsu for everybody.

Reflecting on my first day of BJJ... I must admit I was a little anxious about it. As the others filed in, I came to the realization that I was at least twice their age, easily out weighed them by 130 pounds and considerable more out of shape. Class started promptly with calisthenics and stretching. Colin, the instructor, did a great job of working me into the routine while still keeping the others on track. Next we worked on three drills. Colin once again did a great job of explaining what we were doing, why we were doing it and where to go if the technique went south. Each drill was demonstrated with at least two different students and we were all given the chance to ask questions. After each example, we were split into groups and allowed to practice. Colin seemed to have a very good situational awareness of what we were all doing, often making inputs from across the room if needed and seeming to be in the right place always at the right time. The class ended with a summary of what we did and what to expect next class as well as administrative issues and scheduling. Now the nitty-gritty. I couldnt have had a better first experience. The kids that I thought I would be dealing with were all very polite, welcoming and supportive. Not once did I feel like the fat old new guy and the instruction was top shelf! Am I sore? Yes! Will I go back? Yes! Am I wishing I started 20 years ago? Yes! Am I glad I started today? Absolutely yes!

Asked for discounts for a college student finishing her bachelors and pursuing her masters and got told i was asking too much. i emailed these people about prices months ago, never got a response and when i finally do....its rude and uncalled for. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

So. My boys are Little Champions at Gracie Bent Bent 5 & Little Woo Woo 3. Playing Scoo Bee Do at the house Little Woo Woo took off running. Bent Bent grabbed the back of his collar and up went Little Woo Woos feet. OMG!! Bout 3 off the ground. Yes I know. Boys BREAK FALL! A technical move learned in BJJ saved my boys head. If it had not been for the Gracie Barra training we surely would have made a trip to the ER.CANT express my thanks enough.P.S. Im now a 40 year old white belt and I love it.

Came down from TN to visit family in this area, wanted a place to train over the weekend. Gracie Baras school are always professional from my experience of going to them. With a doubt this one was as well. Collin was professional from talking to him over the phone, getting to meet him, instructing the class, and hanging out afterwards just talking about BJJ. Beautiful and clean school, got a chance to watch his kids class as well, and he did a great job teaching them as well. Wonderful family school, and legit BJJ. I would highly recommend this school anyone looking to compete, get in shape, or have your children enter into the world of martial arts/character education.

My daughter enjoys class so much she is always excited to come back! Not only is this a way for her to be active and be off of the couch but she is learning the valuable skills needed to defend herself should the need ever arise. That in itself to me is priceless. Coach Colin is so patient with all the kids and even the adults!The facility is always clean and put together while the schedule is open to a broad range of class times for the whole family!Prices are very reasonable considering your child may attend any of the classtimes in their level as many times as its offered each week for one set fee per month. The belt testing is also free of charge.For our first time having her try a martial arts class my child has fallen in love with jiu jitsu.
