They lie for the car dealers that sell an unrepairable vehicles. Wouldnt recommend taking a lawnmower to these scam artists.

I recently took my car in due to grinding in the front end. I have used this shop twice before with good results. I told them I suspected a CV axle on passenger side but please drive the car and try to determine if that was the case. I told them exactly when the car made the noise which is under hard acceleration or during left turns and acceleration. The shop called me first to say that yes the cv axle on passenger side was bad and the lug nuts where special lock nuts and if I had the key for them. I had just bought the car and had not checked the lug nuts so I wasnt aware of this. They said they had a tool that should get them off and they would replace the lugs with just plain ones. The second call was to tell me that the tie rod was bad and I authorized the replacement. The third call was to tell me that the upper ball joint was bad and again I authorized the replacement. When I got my bill I was charged $368. Of this only $90 was labor and the rest were for parts. I was charged a 60% mark up over what the auto parts store charges for all the parts and was charged for them to buy a lug key for $45 which they gave me. My issue is that I could have purchased any parts and dropped at the shop if I had been told that their mark up was ridiculously high and i was charged $45 for a tool that could have been purchased for less than half that. And to finish it all off the grinding is still present. Turns out the CV axle was not the issue and is most likely within the transmission. This means they did not drive the car after repairs as the noise is exactly the same and impossible to miss. This makes me suspect they did not drive the car before hand either and just put it on the lift and made a visual inspection. Had they determined it was the transmission I would have held off on repairs and asked them to price me a replacement or rebuild. Now though I will be taking my money elsewhere and will no longer make this shop as a recommendation to people which I have done often before.
