Avoid this place. Mental health care is expensive and hard to access, so dont waste your time somewhere you wont be treated with compassion. My therapist was fine, but both of the psychiatrists I saw (Dr. George, Dr. Guy) were condescending, didnt actually listen to me, prescribed medication that didnt make sense for my diagnosis, and were annoyed when I tried to advocate for myself. Since the beginning of the pandemic the administrative staff has become increasingly rude and unhelpful. They have now cut me off from access to a psychiatrist because Im not seeing a therapist at Perspectives any more. The receptionist actually laughed at me when I said I am still seeing a therapist just not at Perspectives. Since I was denied an appointment with a psychiatrist Im now on my own to find a way to get my prescription refilled or to go off of it without supervision, and the receptionist couldnt have cared less. Im very glad to be done with this place, even if it wasnt by choice.Update: Perspectives responded to my review with the same canned response they use for every other negative review -- call the office with any feedback or suggestions. My feedback is that their office staff is uncaring and rude as hell, so why would I do that? Just another show of their indifference to their patients.

Not all, but there are therapists/psychiatrists here that are not educated in how to actually administer therapy. If you want to pay a lot of money to just sit and vent like you’re out to lunch with a friend and receive no professional therapy input/tools to use to overcome what you’re going through, then this is your place. All while you’re desperate for help and can’t find another therapist that has openings for months. Complaints to the clinical director do nothing. Save your time and go somewhere else and wait for an opening.

They can cancel appointments last minute without consequence but charge $75 when you missed one a week prior. Rules for thee but not for me. Potential patients should read the other reviews to make an informed decision about this place. Then they should run for the hills.

I really liked my counsellor, but front desk stuff so rude, inconsiderate, will not listen to you, will cut you off while you speak with them. It has been a pure nightmare, they don’t show any empathy and sound very annoyed on the phone calls. Supposedly that place advertise themselves as faith based…

I liked my therapist, but the front office staff and my psychiatrist are negligent. I was never told I needed to visit every 6 months to maintain my prescription. Now I am going to run out of my medication because they refuse to refill since I am not an active patient and there is nothing they can do.

Dr. George is the worst mental health professional I have ever worked with. She is laughably rude, scattered, and has no idea who you are no matter how many times you see her. She is short tempered if, heaven forbid, you have a question about a medication (but hey, its only your brain chemistry and the $200 you are paying for fifteen minutes of her time). Her mind blowing insight for clinically diagnosed depression and post traumatic stress disorder (in the wake of a suicide) was Maybe go on a diet. Where do you work? Also, whats your name again?. I understand she sees many patients but good God, get a notebook. Shed been prescribing medication for me for months and met with me multiple times. Brilliant. If thats not enough, it is also outrageously expensive, even with insurance. You can do better for yourself, you deserve to be supported, go anywhere else.

The therapists here are GREAT, but the office staff, billing process, customer service, and culture is TERRIBLE. They even scared away two of my therapists in just a couple years! They switched two of the numbers for my credit card on file, and instead of calling just didnt bill me for three months (yes, months), and then called to collect it all once. Oh, and in that three months they even managed to double bill me for a session. Then, I asked them to waive the co-pays that they decided to stick on me all at once, and they provided me false information! They said the insurance company made them charge me the copays, and I called the insurance company who said that wasnt remotely true.Enter at your own risk, if theres an issue they wont even do the bare minimum to help you with it - which is a great quality for a mental health provider.

I went here from 2011 until 2014, while i was a teenager. my therapist (leslie johnsen) was basically paid by my abusers to gaslight me, which worsened my traumas and caused me to be reluctant to go to therapy as an adult. i’m still undoing the damage in 2020. beware the unethical therapists at perspectives.i wouldn’t have left this review (since i went here 6 years ago) if perspectives wasn’t buying 5 star reviews. people deserve to know the truth.

Profits before People!I have waited to write this review so that I could do so with a clear head and the ability to set fear and subsequently anger aside. This is not a message of hate but rather one of sorrow and to be in this position we as a family feel betrayed and for no other reason than profits. Very disheartening coming from an organization that is supposed to put God in front of all else.About 2 years ago our daughter started to have odd episodes, I thought it was an overactive imagination. Because these things she was describing to me seemed scary I took them seriously. It was suggested that it might be a good idea to have someone talk with her who specializes in child psychology. We chose Perspectives because they were a Christian organization and trusted them with our child. This started several years of sessions which helped our daughter and us through some very difficult times. While we were working through this time during the pandemic her therapist told us that she was moving to another group in the area and due to a contract issue she would not be able to tell us where she was moving. She did tell us that she could give us a referral to another therapist Working at Perspectives of Troy. I was terrified that we would have to start all over again and she would need to find someone to build that rapport with, that could take several try’s with different therapists and because of the severity of the issue put her at risk. All of these are selfish reasons as we want what is best for our child.I contacted them directly to see what I could do to continue our relationship with our daughter’s therapist. I offered to buy out the contract at the time going off of a hunch that there was a non-compete clause and often times there is a mechanism to circumvent that which leaves the company compensated. This struck me as repulsive coming from a biblically based mental health facility. Profits are important for sure, without them we would not have been able to find the people who helped us so much; it keeps the building space open lights and heat on. There is a point though where it becomes unacceptable to put profit over people. As I said above it was selfish as I thought about my child. While talking to Eric Nordquist, a board member, about this situation it became evident that it had far reaching consequences. How many families were affected? Although our struggle seems like Everest to us, we know that other parents have much more on their plate. How many other people were turned away how many children are at a higher risk for suicide now that they are no longer capable to see the person that they built trust with. What if someone commits suicide? I was told that this would be tragic but that it was a standard part of the contract. In the end Eric Nordquist assured me that the director would reach out to me. I have yet to hear from anyone. I have ended all ties with Perspectives of Troy as it is clear that they do not put mental health above their profits even when it is our children. The last time Eric Nordquist and I talked I told him that there was no way I could support an organization like that and he relayed to me with indifference that he did all he could do.I am only telling this story in hopes to inform you of the way Perspectives is being run. I am deeply saddened that when they were presented with this issue in their contract that they as an organization took profits over allowing my child and the children of so many others to continue with the therapist who they had grown to trust. It is their right to enforce the contract but I am struggling to see Jesus in their decision to do so. Maybe Biblical principles are not as important as they portray them to be?!!UPDATE!! Candy Gilbert contacted me and to quote said she had no problem with their policy of enforcing the non compete in their contract. Ultimately putting the profit over the wellbeing of their patients. This is appalling to see a supposed Christian facility treat patients like this!

At this point I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this place. My sons first appointment was on February 9, 2019. He had 9 sessions with his first therapist Andrew and unfortunately, Andrew left the practice to go into missions, which is admirable, except it set my son back even further than he was on his first session because he felt abandoned again. We switched to a new therapist whom he has seen twice now. However, it has been starting over from square one after 9 visits and over 2 months of footing the bill. The switching of therapists was throwing away hundreds of dollars paid for the first 9 sessions. We scheduled an appointment with the clinics psychologist back in February for April. It has now been changed FOUR TIMES. Today it was changed for the forth time putting it off for another two weeks AGAIN!!! I feel like I have thrown away a ton of money and have seen no value of this counseling yet for my son who since starting in counseling was expelled from his school. We are doing our best as parents are paying the money for counseling, but so far there has been no benefit, just a lot of funds and a kid that is in a worse place from where we started. We are going to give 1 more month to this practice before we will have to look for a different practice if things dont improve.

It’s the WalMart of mental health. I figure it’s all about dollars and this place gets cut rate mental health workers. Both my daughter and I have been. My daughter got zip over about 12 appointments and after 4 or 5 visits with my guy I feel the same. He was nice and the only reason I kept coming back was I kept thinking he was setting the table for a few breakthrough moments. They never happened. Indeed I’ve done way better with a couple life coaches over the years.Might I add that several of the reviews on this company are bogus. Click the reviewers name and look at 1) where they review (different ends of the country and multiple states) 2) who they review (odd) uncommon and unlikely. They lack a theme if you will.

Should have read the local guide reviews... I called to set up an evaluation appointment and the receptionist seemed disinterested at best. When I asked to book an appointment in Troy, I was told that there were no upcoming available appointments - apparently ever? This was confusing for me because when I asked what that the next available was - even if it were in several weeks, I was told there simply wasnt any. After a couple more minutes of back and forth, suddenly she found an appointment for later in the week. While this wasnt my time preference, I really wanted to see someone so I agreed to this timing. Not even 20 minutes later I was called back to be told that the appointment I had booked was not, in fact, for the Troy location, but for another. I asked to be placed on a next available list. Since that time, it was been almost a week with no update. Looking through the reviews I cant help but feel Ive dodged a bullet.

Very unprofessional! Very Money hungry! I was here for a year and at the beginning I loved it! Dr. Jackson seemed very attentive to my needs. Down the line, I ended up needing paperwork filled out for work. This place charges $150 for paperwork no matter the reason on why you need it! It’s $150 each time! Not practical at all! The first time I paid it because I needed to! As time went on, I began to see that this place was only worried about the money. My insurance pays for 95% of everything, with that being said I was only responsible for my $25 copay. I missed various appointments due to personal reasons and each time would require me to take off work which would mean I wasn’t getting paid to be off for my personal reason. Each time I would bring my paperwork to get the inconvenience fees removed... welp, before I knew it I found myself in a hole. At first I wasn’t a problem that I had a balance of $200. I was still able to pay my copay and be seen. It only became a problem when my therapist Dr. Jackson started declining to see me numerous times, telling me I had to pay half of my balance off before being seen by her. Who does that? That only dug me in a deeper hole because if I couldn’t pay at least half, she would mark our appointment as if I didn’t come and they would charge me another $75 on top of my balance I had already owed. Fast forward to yesterday, I was calling to confirm my appointment with the psychiatrist Dr. George and was told that I had been discharged as a patient with Dr. Jackson. Since I was no longer a being seen my The therapist, I could not see the psychiatrist! My heart dropped, I felt like I had just been dumped! The receptionist informed me that Dr. Jackson had called me a month ago to tell me she was discharging me. I still have the voicemail and she did not tell me she was discharging me, she was actually calling to let me know what appointments she had available and to call and let her know which appointment I wanted. Thank God, the psychiatrist decided to take me off of my anxiety medication weeks ago but you’re telling me if I were still on any medication, I would have to pretty much fend for myself and figure out how to get more medicine? That is completely unacceptable and very unprofessional. I wouldn’t have even known I was discharged if I hadn’t called! If you need any kind of therapy I recommend you take your time, problems and money elsewhere because this company does not care about you! They will dump you like a bad habit

I go to the Novi location and I honestly love it. First time I really connected with a therapist. There is no secretaries there when you walk in because its so new so instead you just pick up the phone and the receptionist speaks with you while you fill out a half sheet of paper if you have a copay or anything then you just give it to the therapist. I see Charles Vanmulen and I highly highly recommend him to anyone hes a great listener and a really good motivator. For the first time I feel like someone professional is actually listening and acknowledging all I have to say good or bad and gives me the best advice as if he was an uncle more than a stranger. 5 stars for sure in my book :)

20+ years ago, Perspectives was great, they did wonders for my step niece who was a very troubled teen at the time. More recently my Step-son attended counseling there. Instead of my sons therapist helping him quit his attention seeking behaviors that he was there to get help with in the first place, John N. encouraged further like behaviors! My son followed the therapists instructions, making the problem much worse, costing the family time, money and a whole lot of unnecessary hassle. A full year after I pulled him out of that money soaking, issue causing, preying on the cognitively impaired facility, Perspectives has the audacity to bill US for a cancellation that the therapist initiated. Still, after two letters explaining the fact that the money is not owed, we are getting billed.

Had a good therapist at Perspectives whom really cared (they are no longer there) and Dr. Smith is a great psychiatrist - the only plus. Unfortunately, the front office(and new particular therapist) has very bizarre business practices and cares more about billing and money then the well being of a patient. Your experience will really be dependent upon your therapist and you cannot see Dr. Smith without seeing any one else there, period - and we didnt like the new therapist at all . No communication or updates into our childs progress - we tried to get info - how can a parent help their child if they dont get updates even if your child wants you in the visit - told to go elsewhere for family therapy - just wanted a progress report. Very odd procedures and leaves you hanging without options as its hard to find another child psychiatrist quickly. Thankfully, we were able to get an appt with another great psychiatrist and therapist outside of Perspectives in the area and stop going here.

Dr. Susan George, psychiatrist, is the worst mental health professional I have ever worked with. She was completely dismissive of my issues. She would ask questions and cut me off in the middle of my answer to ask me another question. Seeing her made me feel worse than if I would have just stayed off my meds. I met with her once out of desperation and will never return.

I normally check reviews before making appointments with any new dr however but I heard about this place on the radio and that there were Christian counselors available (which is important for me) I went online filled out the online form so someone could contact me...never heard from anyone...a couple weeks later I decided to call this time, I honestly thought I had the wrong# the Secretary answered hello . Once I confirmed I was calling the right place I attempted to make an appointment, this person was clueless about just making an appointment for me. She ended up tranferring me to one of the counselors direct lines (Marianne I believe was her name) I left a message only to never hear from her either...its truly disappointing when u are seeking this type of help only to be given the cold shoulder more than once. I decided today to read some reviews only to be disappointed further...any negative review has a generic reply from the director, owner, etc...this convinced me even more this is not the place for me so at this point Im glad I didnt receive a response from anyone. No need to reply as all I have to do is go back and read your generic response to everyone else.

Unethical practices.Dr. Guy is unethical. For my initial consult he told me about peoples experience with the afterlife and what hell was like, people eating you but you never die....I later found out this is his method to treat people with depression to scare them into not hurting themselves. Plus he is ignorant and discriminatory. He asked me if my husband made me wear a hijab and that the Quran said all women were going to hell (which it doesnt). I never told him my religion, he just assumed it because and was wrong, completely making a fool out of himself. The weird part is when you fill out an intake form they ask for your spirtual beliefs and CLAIM they are culturally sensitive. Oh how i love what the people will say to get your money.......

My therapist Charles Vermeulen, has left me high & dry. Is not following up on my care. Suggested that I need some medication to help with my elevated anxiety, increasing panic attacks that have grown to control my daily activities & are interfering with my ability to work, drive, just function. I have developed ocd rituals that are putting myself & loved ones in harm way. And the therapist was to help usher me to see asap, a medical physician on sight so that I could be further evaluated.... Now 2 days later I have no advanced level of any type of plan of action to help with my spiraling thoughts. The best that Perspectives of Troy, could do is set me up with an appointment, with a medical physician, that is 3 months out. Now I am getting the cold shoulder from the reception staff & my therapist. I am at my wits end, standing on the cliffs edge & Perspectives of Troy, are not throwing me any life lines. Not offering me any options other than to seek treatment off site at a different facility, another doctor. I feel my therapist has abandoned me. Will not call. Will not keep a open line of communication open. I am for a better term, been abandoned.. I am being forced to seek help else where.I think this is poor administration of any doctor, or anyone in the health & mental field, to do no harm. I think Perspectives of Troy, as well as the staff, my therapist have all failed in the given tasks at hand to aid their patient(s). It is unbelievable that they can boast to address & treat so many serious mental health conditions such as: bipolar, manic depression, ocd, etc.... and not have the ability of a medical doctor on staff to be available to evaluate & properly prescribe medications. It is unrealistic to think that a patient should have to wait 3 months to see a medical physician on staff. For someone especially, is telling them that they are in dire need.It is extremely disappointing. I hope no one else has to go through what I have had to go through.

The thought of seeking treatment for mental health can be overwhelming and sometimes embarrassing. After being isolated in the house for months I finally worked up the courage to seek treatment. After a month of being mismanaged and receiving misleading information from my counselor i am lost as to what my next step is. Dr. Karolin Thompson is horrible at following up with he clients, and says she cares with her word. Her body language and voice tone makes you feel that her words are fake and she does not believe you. The way she fails to correspond information and return phone calls further reenforces the fact that she does not care. After trying to coordinate with the managing staff and asking for a new therapist they had Dr. Thompson call me. I asked again for a new therapist where they said they are closing my case and that i need to go somewhere else. I was seeking treatment after being hit by a bus, which the receptionist laughed and said thats funny!!!
