I came in from out of town for a race with a derailer that needed some help. The good people at Mclains were able to squeeze me in and get it fixed in 5 minutes. I am extremely thankful for this friendly team of people who were able to get my bike back up and running in a pinch!

After doing a ton of research on E-bikes and test riding we were ready to buy. We felt it was important to buy local, we have been buying our bikes and equipment from McClains on Garfield for over 25 years. They did not disappoint! We did our due diligence by comparison shopping but quickly came back to McClains for their outstanding customer service, knowledge and time. helping us make the right choice. The Covid precautions were equally outstanding and appreciated. We never felt pressured, they helped us choose the perfect fit and quality to fit our budget. Bob also helped me find the perfect helmet too and reasonably priced.Thank you to Claire, John and Bob and especially to the young man ( I dont know his name) who put our bikes together and prepped them, even making sure we took a test ride around the building before we left the store.

Excellent customer service! First time visitors, but John and his team made purchasing our first Catrike Villagers a pleasurable experience. Very easy to speak with over the phone to discuss what we were looking for, and great call-back and communication before we got there for our test drive. Left with great bikes! Thank you, John and team!!!!

Great products, friendly salespeople; after a few weeks with my bike, and LOTS of questions for the guys at the shop, I feel very supported by their service department. I would urge anyone shopping for a bike to try different brands, really give it a true ride test. If you are more bike experienced, that may not be necessary, but for novices, I highly recommend. I also highly recommend McLain Cycle, we visited other bike shops before landing there and making our purchase, we made the right choice.

This review is for the treadmill repair service that is housed at McLain. Everything started out well. We had an issue with our commercial treadmill and a technician gave us the home visit price and came over. Technician said we needed a new belt, drive belt, new cord, and deck but it may not be worth buying parts since the treadmill was over 10 years old. I understand everyone is busy with COVID, but it took 5 phone calls and over 2 weeks for the tech to even send us an estimate. In the meantime, I looked up the prices of the parts online and they came to ~$600. I was surprised when the estimate came in at $1375! Including $500 for a new original belt that I ended up ordering from the treadmill company on my own for $275. This alone lead me to believe the treadmill tech at McLain was just trying to upcharge on parts so customers decide to buy a new treadmill (from McLains no doubt) instead of fixing a perfectly fine treadmill with tens of thousands of miles left. Sorry- no thanks. Ended up paying an honest treadmill repair person a fair amount to fix only what was needed. Morale of the story- Definitely get a second quote before going with McLain.

Glad I bought a bike from Mclain. They did not have the bike I wanted so they ordered one for me. I got exactly what I wanted and then they fitted it perfectly for me. By buying local I was able to go through helmet, mirror and other equipment I wanted to update and get experienced advice.

I bought a treadmill desk from the manager about a month ago and noticed a scraping noise shortly after.I went to the store with a video of the treadmill making the noise and they got my number. Today the service technician Rod came by, had it fixed in a matter of minutes, and easily explained to me what a minor issue it was and how to make sure it didnt happen again.Ive always had a good experience at any of their three locations I visit. Weve done a lot of business with them over the years and todays experience just reinforces why we are so happy with Mclain cycle and fitness.

My partner bought a bike here over a week ago. He had yo push his way into the store to get them to properly size it to him, when they should have done it when he got it. When he went in today I came with to get a new mountain bike for myself. When trying to talk to the sales person, she did not talk to me but to my husband about what i wanted. I said several times I wanted a mountain bike, but she kept telling him about road bikes. I explained I have a cruiser ar home, I wanted a mountain bike. She asked my husband more questions, as I was standing right there. Finally she said, oh she wants a mountain bike then! YES. i walked out, ill give my $1200 to another business. Not to mention there were no Covid precautions. No social distancing, no masks, no hand sanitizer.

Always a nice experience. Both of our girls are on their trade up program, which has been great since kids need a bigger bike ever couple of years anyway. You pay the initial cost of the first bike you purchase, then you trade it in when its time and only pay the difference for the upgrade. Your childs old bike is donated to Father Fred. These bikes are not cheap, but they are high quality. My kids love riding; they do it daily once the snow is gone. So, we pay the price.Anyway, this store (Garfield location) is great.

I am not happy with the service I received The staff was nice and all but they refused to work on my sons bike that I bought him 2 months ago when our local Kmart went out of business. I believe that this particular bike shop is just trying to get me to buy a bike from them. I would not suggest that you take your bike to this shop.

One of the WORST experiences I have EVER had in ANY retail store in my 35 years of life.Last October I went into McLains to put a Specialized Vita Sport hybrid bike on a payment plan. I picked out the Blk/Char/Blk color combo, paid $140 of the $610 and told them I hoped to have it paid off by Spring.I went back (to the 8th Street location) in April to make another payment. After standing at the desk for nearly 30 minutes I was told that they were unable to find my order and could not take payment because they had no order to apply it to. I called the main store location and spoke with the OWNER, Bob. He mentioned that his colleague, Dave, had mistakenly put my payment plan order under the purchase screen in the system, which is why they couldnt find it. This was fine, he said he would have Dave fix the error and told me that I could come in and make a payment over the weekend, which I did.I made my last payment on April 30th. The last payment was $332. Bob, the OWNER, took the payment which was made via debit card. I noticed an hour later that it was charged twice! This was fixed very fast after a phone call from me.I wasnt able to actually take my bike on the 30th because I didnt have a bike rack. I was okay with this and had Bob order me a rack. He told me the rack would be in by weeks end...perfect, I could have my bike for the weekend. On Friday I received a phone call from Dave. He left a voice mail asking me to call him directly because the tag with my name had fallen off of my bike and he didnt want to give me the wrong bike. He stated that nothing bad has happened with your bike. I called Dave back and he had NO idea what bike I had ordered. He asked me to read off the receipt, which I did. He told me hed figure it out and that someone would call when the rack came in.Monday I had decided that I would go get my bike, rack or not, because I was getting a very bad vibe. I received a call at work from Dave. He let me know that the rack was in but that my bike was not available, and would not be available for purchase anymore. I could have the same model but in blue or red. I let him know I would be in after work. After thinking about it for a few hours I had decided that I would NOT settle for red or blue. If I wanted red or blue I would have ordered that color in October. $610 is A LOT of money to spend on a bike that you didnt order. At this point also, I was so disgusted by being lied to and having my bike sold from under me, not to mention all of the issues I had every single time I went in to make a payment. I decided I would get a refund and take my business elsewhere.I work for a large company in the area, the second largest employer I believe, and talked to many people about McLains. MANY had negative things to say about the shady way they operate. A coworker had the same thing happen to him, Bob selling a bike he was making payments on.When I went in to get a refund Bob became irate with ME, yelling and telling me that they dont lie and they DO have my bike, just a different color (which is NOT my bike). I told him they DO lie and offered to play the voice mail that Dave left telling me that nothing bad has happened with your bike. He declined to listen. Dave had to ask him twice to leave me alone and leave the counter, telling Bob that he was taking care of it. Bob refused to leave and continued to argue with me. I ended the conversation by saying I appreciate it Bob but I cant buy this bike from you guys. While processing my $672 credit Dave apologized to me for Bobs behavior. This was the most RIDICULOUS owner/ customer conversation and experience I have ever had or witnessed. Bob is a liar, refuses to accept responsibility for his error, is arrogant, and lacks business morals for sure. You couldnt PAY me to step foot in a McLains store, much less endorse them in ANY way.Beware....there are two other lovely bike shops in Traverse. City Bike Shop and Einstein Bikes. Enter McLains at your own risk!!
