We have 5 family members training here and will be 6 once our youngest becomes of age. The environment from our team mates and professors are amazing. Everyone has been helpful and patient since day 1! Only regret was not starting sooner.We checked out other academies in the area but even my kids chose to train here because of the attention and quality instruction they receive from their professors. We tried the free trial session and never got an ounce of sales pressure to sign up.This is perfect for anyone wanting to learn self defense also! So glad I was recommend this place! I strongly believe girls should learn some type of martial arts to protect themselves. I’m so impressed by the instructors. My daughter loves this sport that she talks about never quitting. She’s sees her growth and knows it works. The facility is clean and they take extra steps to make sure everything is sanitized and cleaned before, between classes and after. We’ve tried another gym with my other daughter and it doesn’t compare to this place. This is top notch training.

First of all, I would like to say that the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu are evident to millions of practitioners around the world. It is a premiere and complete art of self-defense that is ideal for children and adults to learn. That being said, some academies are better than others in many areas. And it is in my personal experience and opinion that Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is one of the best schools you could attend or place your children in. My children and I have trained here for 8 months, and in our time, we have grown as a family. Some of this has to do with the training of the martial art itself, however, the staff at the Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy set them apart from other options. Not only are they kind and considerate to people of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds, but they go out of their way to ensure you are learning in a safe and clean environment. Precautions were taken very swiftly by the academy during the COVID 19 pandemic, and it is an ideal training location if your concern is your health and well being. Not only this, but with the lack of physical activity children have been receiving due to the lock-down measures the state took last year, this Academy will be an ideal place for your children to unleash pent up energy and learn the most valuable form of self-defense in the world. We are very fortunate to have them in our community. If you are not in the Tracy area, you can always check their website for affiliated and other Academy locations. From personal experience, we have been to the Livermore and Tracy Academies, and both are wonderfully well kept facilities, and the instructors cycle around them frequently, working together to provide a consistent curriculum of Jiu-Jitsu. My kids beg me to go to Jiu-Jitsu and see their professors everyday, and I am more than happy to take them.

We love it here so much! They are so great with the kids. They are patient but also teach them focus and listening. I really like how they have enough teachers to make sure that each student learns correctly. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Great place! After reluctantly deciding to start training, the Charles Gracie environment has allowed me to be in the best shape Ive been in 25 years - and its been incredible mentally and emotionally. Incredible group of people and top notch training. Highly recommended for all ages!

Nice facility. We were there for my kids belt promotion. They train in MODESTO. Was impressed by how clean and bright it is. Plenty of parking was nice as well.

I enrolled my daughter in this academy during COVID & I was surprised of how clean, cautious & efficient are the instructors with it all. My husband & I are glad we have her coming to this institute. Our daughter has learned a lot & she continues to get excited coming to her classes. Which is very important because children need to be kept busy with new & exciting teachings. Its worth every penny.Also, I must add this. The teachers are so friendly to all the parents & students. A smile goes a long way for sure!

My kids started here about one year before I joined. They absolutely love it and I have seen them get more confident as they show up and train. If you are looking to get in shape and learn something new, look no further. Charles Gracie and all the instructors are professional and make you feel at home. It is a family environment where you feel safe to train. Facilities are clean. Training BJJ at this academy must be one of the best decisions I made in life. Not an easy journey, but very gratifying.

Started training BJJ in 2013. Moved to Tracy in 2017 and been to this academy ever since. Having visited many academies around the country, Master Charles and the other professors at Charles Gracie are the best instructors hands down. Great with kids as well. My 12 year old is training BJJ and soon my 6 year old will be as well.

Signed my daughter up for class and she loves it so far. The staff was cool and laid everything out cost/conditions wise before we signed up for anything. There was no High Pressure sales and I felt they provided some solid value in what we chose. The facility itself looks clean and they sanitize on the regular. Looking forward to trying an intro class for myself eventually.

My son has attended Gracie Jiu Jitsu for the last 18 months. His self confidence has increased dramatically, and he is in a lot better shape than when he started. The instructors are excellent and have really given him a lot of one on one instruction. Charles Gracie has always been very nice to our whole family. If you know the Gracie legacy it has been an honor for my son to train there.

Visited Tracy for work and dropped in to get a good day of training. Charles was there and welcomed me warmly, along with all the students and 5 black belts on the mat.We did a solid warm-up, followed with drills, a shoulder lock technique from guard, and finished with some competitive rolls.Everyone was really welcoming, and gave me competitive rolls, without me ever feeling in danger of injury from an overzealous partner.The facility was amazing. Large, bright, clean, and well equipped.Thank you for the warm welcome. I hope to visit again soon.

Ive been training here for the last 6 years and this is a great environment for the family.  Being a female in a predominantly male activity maybe a bit intimidating before stepping onto the mat, but the instructors and students are very professional and courteous.   The women students have grown and we now have our first female Black Belt here at the Tracy Academy! This is not an easy feat.  Ive trained in 3 other disciplines for a total of 9 years prior to my training here.  These Academies are extremely clean which is of the utmost importance in looking for a quality place to train in addition to great instructors.  Professor Charles Gracie is almost always here at the Tracy location and has his door open to all willing students who want to train hard and learn the Gracie Jiu Jitsu system.  Come and try an intro class and decide for yourself!

My family has been going to the Charles Gracie Jiu-jitsu Academy in Tracy since they first opened. I can absolutely say We LOVE this place! Jiu-jitsu is incredible! Such a welcoming and positive environment. The instructors are friendly and inspiring. They teach respect, discipline, self confidence and teach students how to protect themselves. My boys both started young ages 4 and 5, watching them learn and grow in this sport has truly been amazing. Ive trained here a number of years and here are my experiences. First, the place is extremely clean and the staff and instructors are very welcoming and professional. You are treated as family and the instruction is first rate.2nd. I am a bit older and remember seeing the early UFC fights as a young adult. The Gracie name is synonymous with ground fighting and bjj. I was actually pretty shocked when I first came for a trial class to find that I was sharing the mats and being instructed by members of the Gracie family, as well as other high level Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. Charles himself is often in the academy, answering phones, greeting people and at times instructing classes. Words can not describe how cool this actually is to have been taught by a BJJ Coral Belt and member or the Gracie family.I guess my biggest endorsement for the studio is that in addition to becoming a member of the academy myself, I enrolled all three of my children, each now who has trained for several years under the guidance of Master Charles and his staff.

I trained there a couple of years back, is a great atmosphere and an amazing learning environment, my and my wife enjoyed our time there, was a great experience for us as a couple.I Can recommend this school and the Gracie Family with my eyes close.

My son starred at 5 he is now 9 years old. Charles and the staff understand he is still a child but still know how to push him. BJJ is his first discipline... He still does other sports. It also helps with his attention deficit order.

I have been training here since April and my oldest daughter is going on 3 years straight. In that entire time I have never had an issue with billing or contracts. I just use my eyes to read and my mouth to ask questions if they arise. My daughter started when she was 5 and she understood the meaning of commitment. Jiu-Jitsu isn’t for anyone at first: it feels awkward and it puts you in very uncomfortable situations. Just like life. After you embrace the suck, it’s awesome and addicting. The new facility is amazing and one of the cleanest I’ve ever been in. Charles teaches quite often along with his son Riury and other black belts. The kids class is well thought out for the different age groups and the adult classes have a variety of experience from white to black.

My son has been going here since he was 11, my husband followed suite a year after and so far they both enjoy the challenges both physically and mentally that Jiu Jitsu offers . My review is based on my personal experience in the 4 years I have watched my son train here. The instructors are superb, there is an excellent balance of discipline, having fun and structure that the kids need. As far as the contract, yes there are contracts but every place has that. I would say, be informed, do your research . I would suggest, find out first if your kid likes the sport, go there, go for the one hour trial. Or better yet wait when they offer the 30 day trial. Ask around. Thats what I did, when my son told me he liked it and its something he can see himself doing twice a week I signed him up. It is a commitment for your child but it is also a commitment for you as a parent. I opted for the one year contract and paid for the whole year. (You get a discount if you pay upfront for the whole year). I like this academy because the owner has the technique and skills to teach Jiu Jitsu. (read the history on the Gracie family...) also they are big on safety . I do like the new location better, bigger and plenty of parking. I am not paid to write this review nor was I coerced in writing it. The only cons I can say is I wish they offer cold beverages on site .

Gish Fish sounds like a shill for a rival school. Not really a rival, since Charles Gracie is the only real jiu jitsu in town. This other place is an MMA school trying to teach just about everything. Jack of all trades, master of none, type place. Charles offer a clean, safe place with outstanding instruction. The new location at the outlet mall in Tracy is spectacular inside and out. Immaculately maintained mats, locker rooms and bathrooms. Tons of parking. Multiple black belt instructors, not to mention the man himself, Coral Belt Master Charles Gracie, teaches often. Anyone who doesnt like this place doesnt appreciate great jiu jitsu.

BEWARE OF CONTRACT: THAT WHEN YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT IT IS NOT WITH GRACIE JIU-JITSU. It is with a billing company called AFFILIATED ACCEPTANCE CORP. that has a BBB rating of B- (and 100% negative responses on the BBB website). The billing company also has a 2 ½ star rating with 91 complaints. Pretty much Gracie Jiu-jitsu takes a 0% interest lone (or line of credit) on your behalf with this contract. They no longer assume responsibility for billing and all questions have to go through AFFILIATED ACCEPTANCE CORP. Partially our fault for signing the document and not reading the fine print of the agreement entirely. It has been a nightmare working with Gracie’s office AND I WILL NEVER AGAIN BRING OR REFER BUSINESS to that establishment. The instructors were great, had great attitudes and worked awesome with the kids. BUT the establishment itself has made us feel as if we were not properly informed (scammed) and lied to. If finances or time restricts you from attending your practice or your son or daughter no longer enjoys the training you are stuck dealing with a very low rating billing company (as if you took a loan with them). I SUGGEST TAKE YOUR KID TO SOMEWHERE THAT OFFERS A MONTH TO MONTH FIRST.

Please dont sign this contract.This is a SCAM!A one year contract, however you must email in order for them to not automatically sign you up for a second year.... If your child is unable to continue going to classes due to school, or other sports/activities there is no way to work with these money hungry people. They only care about being paid. Charles will sit with you, get you to sign the contract, and sit back and collect. You think you are signing a contract with Charles, but in reality, you are signing with a totally different company, AAC. When we signed the contract, the training location was close to our house. However, half way through our contract, Charles moved the location much farther away.
