In April of 2021 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and started the overwhelming process of surgery, treatment plans and choosing my healthcare team. Initially my path was simple with only 1 lumpectomy needed, but it turned out to be more complicated with multiple re-excisions needed as well as reconstruction surgery. At our first meeting Dr Newman went into detail on my reconstructive options and backed up all decisions with very compelling up to date data and breast cancer statistics. While assessing options he recommended a breast reduction, which at the time I had not considered, but it ended up being a wonderfully life changing decision. For those of you researching a plastic surgeon, you are now reading a review about Dr. Michael K. Newman. Note: my first surgery was completed by another plastic surgeon but due to COVID and scheduling issues, I sought out another plastic surgeon closer to my home. Dr. Newman performed a revision to my initial reconstruction after my mastectomy, which most plastic surgeons will tell you is not unusual after your initial reconstruction. The reason being, as our bodies heal and the swelling goes down, implants and the surrounding anatomy may need to be modified. In my situation, the pocket that was created to place my implant was too large and needed to be made smaller because there was too much movement and it was uncomfortable. Also, the size of the implant was also not the optimal size for my body shape, so it also needed to be replaced. Dr. Newman and his staff were excellent in making me feel comfortable and listened very carefully to my concerns about what I was not comfortable with after my first surgery. He modified my pocket and also did some fat grafting from my hips to smooth the contour around my implant. Today, I could not be happier with the results which have translated into a much better self image and I feel that my implant is an integral part of my body which I did not feel like the first time around.

Dr.Newman is a true class act. He is extremely knowledgeable, meticulous, and passionate about his work. Dr. Newman and his staff are amazing. A friend of mine recommended him and I am so glad I made the decision to have him perform my surgery. I have had such a wonderful experience with Dr Newman and the staff at South Bay Plastic Surgeons! In April I had a tummy tuck procedure with Dr Newman and a hernia repair with a Dr he recommended. He made me feel comfortable and at ease from the very beginning. He took his time talking to me about how the procedure would go, showed me pictures of someone with a similar body type that had the same procedure done, and answered all my questions. Before a friend recommended him to me, I had had consultations with two other plastic surgeons. My experience with other surgeons was not nearly the same! There seemed to be an arrogance or ego with both other surgeons and Dr Newman is not that way at all! Instead of talking about how great he was, he focuses on his patient and making them feel comfortable and excited for their result.After our initial consultation, Dr Newman spoke with several surgeons about doing my hernia repair at the same time as my tummy tuck. He personally called me when he found the doctor that he felt had the best approach to fixing my hernia. After seeing this Dr (who I also loved!), his assistant Stephanie coordinated my surgery with the hernia surgeons schedule. Stephanie was easy to get a hold of, and called me back promptly when I called her.My surgery went extremely well! I am over the moon happy with my results. I am 35 years old and had 4 children in 3.5 years, including a set of twins. My stomach was so big when I was pregnant with the twins that it looked fake. I had so many stretch marks and tons of loose skin. I work out 5-7 days a week and maintain a healthy diet. My weight had returned to my prepregnancy weight but I always looked 3 months pregnant. I had corrected my diastis recti drastically through exercise, but still had a gap I couldn’t close. When I wore jeans or yoga pants, my skin would hang over the top.Now my stomach is flatter than it has ever been! All of my loose skin is gone. I am 6 weeks post op and can’t believe this is my new stomach! I can wear all clothing with confidence now - including bikinis. I will forever be grateful to Dr Newman and his team for making me feel like myself again!

Over a year ago, I had had some reconstructive surgery done on my arm by Dr. Newman and I was really happy with the outcome of that procedure that several surgeons were hesitant to perform for me before. About a month ago, Dr. Newman performed a cosmetic procedure to improve the look of the reconstructive surgery form the previous year. The result was just AMAZING! I had been delaying breast implant removal for over 10 years. The accumulation of scar tissue on my left breast had become painful and was preventing me from regular mammograms. The last mammogram I had was so painful I knew I couldnt have another until I had surgery.In addition I found myself unable to wear certain dresses and tops because I was lopsided. I live in Scottsdale and have a pool. I have sported a bikini all of my life. Not for the last 5 years. Wearing a Bikini was out of the question. Trying to camouflage my appearance had become increasingly difficult and I was incredibly self conscious.I remember the day I walked in the door for my consultation with my right breast considerably lower than the left and the left as hard as a rock. In my mind I was deformed. For years I had dressed and undressed away from my husband and now I was going to have to unveil this lopsided mess. I was a wreck.Dr. Newman has a comfortable way about him. He eased my anxiousness and embarrassment. Even though I shed a tear or two, I was relieved I met him that day. His assurance made me feel hopeful and confident this situation could be fixed.My case wasnt the normal breast implant surgery. Im complicated. My implants needed to be removed, scar tissue removed, new implants added and mesh to lift my breasts. I thought there wasnt a chance I would ever look decent in a bathing suit. That was one month ago.Today I couldnt be happier! I look normal again. No, I look better than normal! During my last check up Dr. Newman shared the photos of the scar tissue that was removed. It was just as large as the implants themselves. He also showed me all the built up calcification around one implant. He had sent the scar tissue to the lab for cancer screening. Thankfully, no cancer. From the photos I got a sense of the work he and his team had done while I was fast asleep. I am so grateful.In the past 35 years I have gone through 2 breast implant surgeries. I know what the experiences were then, the before and after care, and my end results. There is no comparison to this experience. I now know the difference between an ok plastic surgeon and THE BEST plastic surgeon. I was very nervous coming into his office to speak to him about my first Rhinoplasty, let alone my first surgery in general. I have had an outstanding experience at South Bay Plastic Surgeons with Dr Newman.After giving birth and watching my weight yo-yo up and down for several years, I decided to treat myself to a little liposuction. Well perhaps “little” is not the right word. I had a lot of liposuction.I underwent a 4 hour procedure that included the removal of fat in my abdomen, love handles, back, and neck.The outcome exceeds my expectation. I lost over 6 inches in my waist and I feel like a whole new person. I feel young and sexy and most importantly, confident!The procedure itself was simple. I showed up at the private surgery center in Torrance, feeling rested and comfortable. It was very discreet, clean and modern. Dr Newman and his staff are so wonderful. They were very professional and made me feel completely at ease.I had previously been in the office for two or three consultations, so I was confident that Dr Newman knew exactly what I wanted.The recovery was also better than expected.I was comfortable the next day and did not feel as tho I was handled roughly or over-medicated. I was walking around by the third day and back at the gym three weeks later.My result is amazing. Dr Newman is an artist. My proportions are perfect, very desirable.Also I had a c-section scar that was really ugly before, but Dr Newman was able to do some corrections and my c-section scar looks a lot better.Hands-down I recommend Dr Newman. In fact, I have already sent two friends his way and I a positive that I will recommend more.

I am extremely happy with my experience with Dr. Newman and his staff. I found Dr. Newman to be extremely easy to talk to and had full confidence in his ability to perform my procedure with a successful outcome. Dr. Newman is the best!! When I was diagnosed with breast cancer almost three years ago I told them I wanted the A-Team for my surgeons. Dr. Newman is definitely the A-Team. He was part of my surgery team for my double mastectomy and did all of my reconstruction which included a 13 hour flap surgery. His office is beautiful and staff is amazing. Shout out to Claudia!! This was my first experience with a plastic surgeon and I had no idea what to expect. He is very friendly, easy to talk to, makes sure you are comfortable with the plans and explains everything throughly. He uses his knowledge and experience so that you will have the best outcome possible. I could not be happier with how it all turned out. After going through the hell that is cancer, chemo, radiation and multiple surgeries (6 in my case) you can lose a piece of yourself with all the changes your body goes through. Most people find an Oncologist first, then a Surgical Oncologist, then the Plastic Surgeon. I went through the process backwards. I met with a Surgical Oncologist that was good, but I wasn’t comfortable with the Plastic Surgeon she recommended. The images he had in his portfolio didn’t look natural to me. I called Southbay Plastic Surgeons on a whim based on reviews. The woman who answered the phone (Angie) was helpful right from the start. She said that all their doctors are amazing, but when I asked her if there is someone she would choose to work on her if she were in the same situation, she said Dr. Newman. “He’s our youngest doctor. Everybody loves him.” To reassure me, she asked me to pick out images of other cancer patients whose results I liked. I emailed her a list with links and it turned out that the image I was most impressed with was Dr. Newman’s work.I can’t recommend him enough. I had some concerns about shape and size, but he really works with you to find change you’re comfortable with while maintaining natural results. Dr. Newman was not only kind and attentive, he was also a perfectionist. He even recommended an amazing Surgical Oncologist from City of Hope.I ended up having a double mastectomy (avoiding radiation), expanders, then reconstruction. It was the most painful process I’ve had to go through physically and mentally, but it was made better knowing I had the best care possible. Two months after the last surgery, I went to get fitted for new bras. The woman couldn’t tell I had a mastectomy until I showed her the scars underneath. She said whoever did the work was phenomenal.At the end of the day, my body actually looks better now than it did before I was sick. I wouldn’t ever want to go through the process again, but if I had to, I’d still pick Dr. Newman.

Im 6 months post op and I couldnt be happier with the results of my breast augmentation. What I love about Dr. Newman is his attention to my concerns and didn’t push more aggressive options. He gave me exactly what I asked for. Everyone from his front office staff to his surgical team was very nice, friendly, and made me feel at ease. I was surprised how good I felt after surgery, I had minimal pain and was back to work after 3 days. I absolutely would recommend Dr. Newman that I’m scheduling a tummy tuck in a few months!

After a bilateral mastectomy and lymph node removal, he did a superb job of the reconstruction including expanders and final reconstruction. My scars are minimal and I look great! Going through Brest cancer is a long journey and not an easy one, so many new people to meet and guide you. Quite a few stand out in my book, and Dr. Newman was definitely one of them from day one!Him and his staff have the greatest personality, very polite, and give you the best feeling of knowing that you are in great hands. I came to Dr. Newman for a rhinoplasty in January and I absolutely love my new nose! I had a small bump that really bothered me and I felt the tip was a bit large as well. Every time I took photos, I was self conscious about it. I knew that I wanted to do something but I was torn between being nervous I would have a result that looked overdone, and also being nervous that I would spend the money and look the same. I met with Dr. Newman and his Patient Care Coordinator, Rachel, and they completely eased all of my fears. Connecting with your surgeon and their staff is so important, and that happened instantly. At five months post op, I can say that I literally could not be happier with my result and experience! My rhinoplasty looks natural, the bump is gone, and my tip is smaller just like we planned. I had very little pain through the healing process and felt mostly just difficulty breathing for about a week after surgery. I had bruising for about 7-10 days and the swelling continues to go down, and will for about another six months. Dr. Newman is not only talented but also incredibly kind. He and his staff walked me through this entire process and I am so grateful to have had such a dedicated team. The Aesthetic Institute, Dr Newmans surgical suite, is absolutely gorgeous and the process was seamless. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Newman; he is simply the best!
