I love Lori! Shes great! Every time Ive had an issue (which hasnt been too often), shes there with an understanding, never condescending attitude. She does her best to make sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome. Shes done a great job with all of this mask silliness. The club is always clean, and bright! The staff there, Chris, Brian, Megan, and everybody else, are so friendly and always willing to talk to you! Keep up the great work, guys!

While the Tenafly Retro is not the biggest or newest, it is a solid location if you want to go in and get a workout in. I love going here for leg day especially because of the whole room they have with just leg equipment. Chris and Daine from the staff are very friendly and are always there to help out.

The courteous members have been a pleasant happening with the cleaning the equipment after using. The personnel are always available for questions and advice. Plenty of paper towels and disinfectants/cleaning clothes are available.

I like their professionalism and the treatment of their staff I recommend them because they work with your needs

The place is always very clean, and the machines are in good condition and always clean, a very good environment to exercise.

Equipment layout and the amount of weights are more than enough. Always full of people though so check your time to see when its the least busiest.

I recently joined Retro Fitness and took the ultimate package to have access to any Retro Fitness. I was running late to my usual 8 am class so I decided to take a detour to the Tenafly location for a later class.As soon as I walked in, the lady at the front desk told me that I have to pay $5 for the class. At my exit, I told her that I would pay the $5 despite paying over $200 between training fees and membership at Retro every month.I later learned that someone I know from a different location, has gone to the same location until recently and has never been charged the $5. It appears that there is a selective enforcement of the fee.At the end-just my impression- the lady felt that she made a big mistake and didn’t want to take the five dollar or my card. I really enjoyed the class so I wouldn’t mind paying her the $5 and leave in good terms. However, I must say it was disconcerting.Unless you are a member of that location you may be an unwelcome guest by the administration.

DONT JOIN!!! This place is disrespectful even prior to joining. If I can give zero stars I would. Kid answers phone with attitude. After my signal cut out on my cell phone a few times, then tells me to join another gym!! Just lost about 12 customers with that disrespect. Definitely DONT JOIN THIS GYM. HORRIBLE

The manager, blonde lady (didnt get her name), needs major customer service training. She tried to tell me, another member, and 2 guests that we cant train at Tenafly because its prime time (8:30am, gym was relatively empty) and space needs to be dedicated for Tenafly members, not Hackensack members. When I asked her to make an exception since we came all this way, she said we need to pay $10 per guest since they wont honor free guest for non-Tenafly ultimate members (suddenly its no longer about head count). When I then asked to have my membership canceled, she could not have been happier to hand it over to me. Moral of the story: dont join this location unless you enjoy being discriminated against.

Staff is extremely friendly and the members are respectful. Very diverse membership with no group dominating (mix of cardio focused, power lifting and machine lovers). The COVID protocols are strong, enforced, and respected. So happy they are open! Love my morning shakes :)

This gym is nice and clean. All equipments are available. Although, parking is very bad. I tried this gym for 2 days I really like it. The staff are very nice Leanna was very helpful and kind to show me around told me everything I needed to know. If you’re looking for a gym that is family oriented this gym is perfect. Locker rooms is clean. Everything is compared to other gyms big thumbs up.

I think the staff is tremendously rude .. I don’t recommend this location to anyone! Staff gives dirty looks . I am respectful and don’t try to be a bother to anyone but I do like to work out intensely and have had my attention called twice because of the way I workout .. if they wanna run it more like a planet fitness then don’t have the weights go so heavy ..no other retro treats memebers the way this one does

PROS: Most of the staff is friendly, however, you have to initiate the talking. The equipment is plentiful and all you really need. As is with every Retro, the monthly fees are cheap at $20. Its very clean, organized, and goes through changes every now and then. They keep their smoothy bar and their bathrooms clean.CONS: Parking is terrible sometimes which makes you have to park on the street. The staff isnt the most open and with little sense of humor. The gym is not a hard core gym like a Varsity House or a Golds gym if your into that kind of a gym, and the enrollment fee and processing fee ($130 combined) is enough to scare you away..or at least until they momentarily drop them.OVERALL: Great family-oriented local gym for people that want to get in shape but dont mind the grumpy employees and the basic equipment. Its the best gym in that area and it definitely is affordable once you get past the two major fees up front. Very clean and the machines are not usually out-of-order.

I just joined retro at Tenafly maybe 2 weeks ago and I love this location, some gyms the people at the front desk can be rude or standoffish but they’re nothing but nice and helpful here. Victor especially, he signed me up and walked me through the contract and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. They have 5 squat racks which is huge because all my other past gyms depending on when you arrive working legs may be a problem but not here. Nice equipment, definitely a solid gym.

Cheap monthly fee but overall a good place to go and work off last nights dinner, the staff is always friendly and I always feel very comfortable there working out.

The gym itself is decent, it is small and can be crowded during peak hours but that is like most gyms. The one star review is for the trap of a cancellation policy that retro fitness puts you in. They outsource their cancellation procedure AND DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO IMMEDIATELY CANCEL SO THEY CAN CHARGE YOU FOR ONE MORE MONTH TO GET MORE MONEY FROM YOU. I highly recommend going with a gym that is not affiliated with Retro Fitness.I am changing my review slightly. I joined another gym and did not feel as comfortable there as i did at retro. That is why i have bumped the score up.

For $20, you cant go wrong. They dont raise the prices on you like other gyms. Everything is transparent. Ive cancelled before without issues and I ended up coming back because NYSC doubled their prices on me without telling me.

Retro Fitness in Tenafly, NJ has everything you want: tons of equipment which is easily accessed, a very friendly and helpful staff, great location and very reasonable prices. But what makes this gym different from others are the trainers, especially Randy who provides individual instruction, as well as classes, including Forever Young for older adults. She is an extraordinary professional, a teacher who is totally tuned into the interests and needs of her clients. She has a lovely welcoming, energetic personality that permeates the room and encourages all of us who work with her to strive and thrive.

Great gym all around, easy parking, only gets really busy in the evening. Decent amount of equipment and treadmills, 3 stair-steppers. Friendly staff and outstanding cleanliness!

This place sucks. Dont ever join. They will screw you on the fine print. I thought I was month to month (as per the flyer I got in the mail) then was told I had to pay a fee to cancel my membership. Then was handed a card to some outside company to call to do so. Was hit with a charge midway for upkeep or some bs for new equipment. Can you imagine, you pay your fees and they still want more? Yes yes its all in the agreement when you join, but i guess they are hoping you dont read it. Like I did not. Youre warned...

Its not too crowded at the times I go to work out which is great and they have a good selection of machines for when I workout alone

Too many people-have to wait on equipments not enough parking, closes too early on Holiday hours, needs another flat and incline bench and better quality Olympic Bars.

If you care about lifting what so ever do not come to this gym. I just started coming here a little over week ago and already had a bad experience. I’m not sure if he was an employee but an older tan guy with tattoos yelled at me and my boyfriend for slamming weights and for him wearing a tank top. I have been to many gyms and retro’s before and have never had this problem. This guy was giving us dirty looks since we walked in and felt extremely uncomfortable being here after he disrespected us. We do not slam weights or bother anybody just want to get our workout in and leave. He did not approach us in a professional way and I am extremely disappointed because at first I really liked this gym and its equipment. You really need to re evaluate your employees or the way you approach your paying members.

One of the worst gyms you could ever go to. Hot as hell all year round inside. The place is cramped. Not enough machines, but theyll keep adding more treadmills and bikes. It is packed 24/7 with people who sit on their cell phones on the machines or are watching TV and no one does anything about it. Machines are rarely cleaned. Trainers get in the way and stare at you. They also have bad attitudes for no reason. Finding a parking spot from 4pm and on is impossible because the parking lot is so small. I dont think I have enjoyed a workout at this place yet.

I’ve been going to this retro for almost four years. It’s my go to gym now - I used to also belong to the Tenafly JCC so I used to mix and match depending on the time I had (jcc is fancier and has a sauna) but I don’t go to the JCC anymore because of time. Parking and just walking in was too time consuming there but here I can pull up, park, and be working out in less than a minute. The people behind the desk are super nice. The equipment is in good repair. They have improved and enlarged the gym several times, which shows they really care about providing value. My only complaint is that I used to love the theatre (they have a movie theatre with machines) but the projector hasn’t been working right in the last few months so the picture is now dim and doesn’t look good, and they have hung obstacles from the ceiling that partially block the view so now I don’t go in there anymore. But, you don’t need a theatre to work out and I hear that the new classes they have in that room are great. This is the best deal in town for a great fitness center and you can get a fantastic workout here in a hurry. I’m very happy with it.

Absolutely correct in every point. But it is because the manger is also the owner of franchise and the property. An attitude like that she couldnt get a job sweeping the floor ANYWHERE ELSE! This horrible woman shouldnt be allowed anywhere near any human being! Most of the staff are absolutely and unbelievably RRRRUDE, extremely offensive and unprofessional, I am surprised that corporate Retro has not kicked them out of their network. This crew have no business being out in the open, they should be in a cage hidden somewhere out of sight!!!Since It is not possible to respond to the response below, Ill do it here and add that the owner comments are absolute none-sense, she and her staff are horrendously RUDE and I absolutely stand by everything I said. I further add that I have left several messages with the Retro Fitness corporate office and they never bothered to return my call. The resemblance between the franchisee and the franchiser is astonishing at how mush they care about ZERO customer service!!

I like this gym despite the fact they need more machines. Theres tons of crap for cardio but they are limited on weight training equipment. They only have one standard bench press bench. Thats a fail. They could also use another squatting rack. This place can get overcrowded so youll have to experiment to find the best time to go. I do wish they stayed open 24/hr to cut down on the crowd.
