We needed emergent care for our cat last weekend, and due to capacity issues we struggled to find a nearby facility to take him. Thank goodness VCA agreed to see him in right away. The staff were professional and responsive, and the care provided was excellent. We were given care options and costs, and communication was also excellent.
I had a scheduled appointment at this VCA for today at 12:20. We just adopted a dog from the Humane Society and wanted to establish care with a local vet since we are new to the area.I showed up at 12:20 parked and called. I was immediately put on hold and left there for 30 minutes. Hung up, called again immediately put on hold and left there until 12:58. I was told that I would be called back shortly so a vet tech could come get my dog and they would let the vet know that I was late because of being on hold. I was called again and told that the vet went to lunch since I missed my appointment (due to a fault of theirs) and that there were no available appointments left in that day.I told them to just cancel the appointment, hung up and drove away.Huge waste of my time, horrible customer service. I will be taking my dog to another vet. Id rather pay out of pocket for quality care than use a free coupon here any day.
My puppy had an unfortunate injury while playing fetch. We are a military family and new in town so no one was accepting new patients. VCA took her and gave her excellent care. Yes, we had to wait a long time but once care began I felt very confident that they were appropriately caring for my baby.
Every time I bring my pet here for an appointment, I wait in my car on the hold line for far too long. I watch them help people who arrived after me. They have poor scheduling and poor communication. They tell you they’re doing their best, but they can’t even answer the phone to check in a patient for an appointment that was scheduled months ago. Be ready to waste your day sitting in a parking lot. Writing this while STILL on hold.
Yesterday our 6 month Dalmatian had an emergency while at his dog daycare and his regular vet couldn’t see him. I called around to see which emergency wasn’t a 6 hour wait, most of them were. However, VCA was running at half that time. The front desk staff was very accommodating and very caring. They got him triaged very quickly by the tech Rex (I believe - I’m bad with names). My dog is very timid but the tech went above and beyond and my dog warmed up quickly. They kept him for me so I could run home - I have a newborn baby - and then my husband could return to wait with him in the car. I wasn’t even gone for 30 mins and they had assessed him. Dr. Christensen was very caring and very thorough. She didn’t rush me or suggest things that my dog truly didn’t need. He was able to come home with a care plan I felt good about. Most of the time vet emergencies nickel and dime you and then tell you to follow up with your regular vet. It truly was the vest emergency vet experience I have had. Thank you to all of your staff.
We had attempted multiple locations to get our dog in for some treatment and VCA got us in just as I was losing hope. They gave us great care and got our Buddy all taken care of. We even received a follow up call asking how things were going. We are so pleased with our visit. Thanks for taking care of our needs!!!
Staff has no communication with any Dr or reliable about booking appointments. Wasted so many days just to be called back and told no new clients...
Took care of my buddy Luca during his emergency visit in a timely and professional manner.
We were out of town and our 16.5 year old black lab started to fail and needed help passing away. She was suffering and needed help. I called 5 or 6 places and they refused to help any new patients, which was heartbreaking. But finally i was referred to VCA Pacific and they took my dog in with care and sympathy and were so kind to her. They did not guilt trip us or try to extort more money for needless tests, they just helped us to allow her to rest. They were very kind and compassionate to us. And now she is no longer suffering, and we very much appreciate their help.
They took Good care of My Gucci ( chihuahua puppy)But they mistake our love for pets as a ATM Machine !I have never seen such outrageous Prices ! I understand Business they are not here to loose money but I don’t believe in their prices . And the wait and telephone services . I waited all day I understand they busy but this was outrageous. I will not be back .
We first found this hospital online with our husky had Pavo, at first they had us waiting six hours before they even came out to let us know they can see him, the pricing was outrageous but we had to do what we had to do for our sweet baby boy. And today we came in to take care of our cat, they had us bring him in I was before our appointment, and still six hours later they still haven’t done anything, so I think the theme is six hour wait time with no resolutions to your pet needs. As the world is turning into chaos people are losing jobs money is tight they want to charge over $800 just to do some test and a cat swollen leg. Not worth the time definitely not valuable in price and the rude. So I have to wait for 6 1/2 hours to get my cat the lady had the nerve to tell me she’s doing us a favor by see him in the first place even though we had an appointment so yeah save your money save your time. Do not bring your pet to the hospital if you value them in anyway
Yesterday, our sweet 1-year MinPin/Doxie, collapsed and wouldn’t move. She was suddenly lethargic and panting and we had no idea what had happened. This was not her typical behavior so we rushed her to VCA on Pacific. Everyone we encountered was professional and empathetic. From the person who took our call, to the folks who brought papers to fill out, to the doctor, all of these folks were heroes and we felt so lucky to have found this place, even though it was for not-so-great reasons. The doctor followed up after she had been discharged and I would definitely recommend VCA Pacific to anyone who has a pet in distress.
Dont waste your time here. They arent 24/7, and they dont tell the truth about their availability. They dont seem to actually be an urgent care place? I was told that no appointment was needed and when I got there, they said to come back in an hour and a half and that they couldnt check in any appointments or urgent care until 3pm. We returned at 3pm only to be told that they were at capacity. This is not ok.
Its Memorial day weekend. My cat was having breathing problems. They were super busy but when I just showed up out of desperation they looked at her an took her in immediately. They were so kind and thorough. And very happy to find out it was allergies/asthma and not something else. She is home and Im very grateful to them. ❤❤❤
We arrived with our newest addition Jeeves this morning around 7:30. He returned to us with a bad limp after disappearing for a few days. The office staff informed us that there would be a 2 hour wait. This is very reasonable for an urgent care, during a pandemic...and after we were turned away by 2 other hospitals due to being at capacity. All veterinarians in the area are impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, so consider that and dont take it out on the kind and caring staff. (Some of these reviews are so nasty!)The wait was less. Dr. Gintz was very professional and thorough. They took great care of Jeeves so he can be upgraded from garage kitty to lazy house cat status.Thank you guys!
Ive taken two cats in for care and have been satisfied with the treatment provided. Dr Wood was great. No one likes the costs associated with vet care however its part of owning pets. I dislike the long wait times but thats what happens with urgent care situations. Will use again.
..I didn’t plan to spend as much as I did but under the circumstances at that moment I’m not at all complaining. The staff and doctor was very sympathetic and showed so much compassion for me having no alternative but to have my precious baby euthanized.Josephine Manibusan-Punzalan
About 2 months ago my sweet girl Whisky was hit by a car. I was pretty sure that she had died in my arms on the way there, but I prayed something could be done. 🙏 When I arrived the VCA team quickly sprang into action. Unfortunately, My baby girl had already passed. I appreciate the sympathy the VCA team showed during an incredibly devastating time. 💔Thank you VCA for your kindness.
I havent actually gone into the clinic but my 5 1/2 month old French Bulldog Ava. Broke her leg last Tuesday when I called to see if they were taking any new patients on an emergency situation. The lady on the phone was so sry that they werent taking new patients. She stayed on the phone with me as I was very upset & worried about Ava. Her words her genuine sympathy were so amazing & reassuring. (Im sry I didnt get her name ) but the fact that she took the extra time to help me to clam down & her genuine kindness was so amazing I wont soon forget it.
Do not bother. We arrived and called to check in for a walk in as directed, and were told wed have to wait and call back as they were too busy to check us in. We waited and called back exactly at the time we were told to, only to be to then be told 1) that we never called (we did, it was the same receptionist who said her name was Gabby) and 2) that the clinic was now at capacity for the day and wouldnt be able to see us at all. We wasted an entire afternoon while our cat was in severe pain. From other reviews it seems this place doesnt even actually treat anything but direct people elsewhere anyway. You should be ashamed. A disgusting scam, perpetrated on vulnerable people worried about their pets is all this is.
You can definitely tell that they care about your pet! They were so responsive to all my questions and did a great assessment of our dog milo! We are a military family and have had multiple vets with all the moving we do. This is by far our favorite vet! Thank you for taking such great care of our dog Milo!
We didn’t have the opportunity to go in (yet), but the gal that answered the phone went above and beyond to try and help us. Azaria talked calmly, explained how to take our dogs temp and called other facilities to see if anyone had availability to see us - even though they weren’t earning the business. She truly was concerned with our family and our fur baby. It looks like we may be switching vets. VCA I wanted to let you know about the fabulous staff you have and especially in Azaria - she is a true asset to you.
I didn’t feel like they care for any animals health I called in the morning and they told me that they are opened To midnight that I can come and just park and call, and I did and I was told but nobody answered my calls, only to say that they don’t have any doctors at the moment . I ring the bell and no doctor was available to help us not even a sorry was given for not be able to provide the emergency care as they advertise.
I adopted two related cats about 2 years ago, one had was acting weird and started getting sick, I spent about 4 thousand dollars in tests and blood transfers to get absolutely no answer on why he was sick. We decided to go someplace else last minute someplace in Auburn and within 30 minutes he new exactly what he was suffering from and charged us nothing because he knew it was too late to do anything. He died of leukemia at age 1 and a year later I decided to give them another chance with my last cat. Long story short and over 3 thousand dollars later he is just getting worse. Im sick of this place, they are money hungry and not to mention the time I waited in the car for over an hour cause they forgot about us. I would never recommend this place to anyone unless you want to waste thousands of dollars just to have your pets get worse and possibly die.
The service was excellent and very thorough. You could tell they really care about their animals here. They even followed up with me the next day which is super caring! If my dog was in need of urgent care again I would most definitely bring him back here.
This place has only gotten better the longer I go here. Yes, over the years I have seen different levels of focused or not focused employees. That is in every job. These doctors have treated my cat for years from a baby to a senior. I have dealt with everything from basic check ups to overnight visits, emergrncy and surgeries. The doctors are busy! Dr. Saylor and Dr. Christensen were so so great with Tony and have worked on him multiple times, they always Very kind and informative doctors everytime. Gabby at the front desk was great and so kind AND a big thank to Laura as well for working with me and finding solutions to get my bill paid through covid.Another statement I just HAVE to make in reference to other reviews. Yes the Vets can be super peppy at times and sometimes more serious. They are human busy, and dealing with health. If you DO come in more often, you will see their personality and love for these animals. I promise you they care and are great at what they do. Thanks again for all your help VCA!!
Called and said my dog was puking multiple times. They took my info and said it would be a 2 hour wait time. I get here and am put on hold for 5 minutes only to be asked if I can be put on hold again. When I gave my phone number I wasn’t “in the system” even though I called 30 minutes before. Once that got figured out I was told the wait time was actually 5 hours. Just seems disorganized.
Back in December we had to take my cat that was 15 years old in because she was having problems walking and then shed have spasms and pee uncontrollably. They could not figure out what was wrong, we could not afford all the testing and things the vet was suggesting so in the middle of the night a week before Christmas my fiance and I had to say goodbye to our baby, the only one we had, but the people here were very respectful and caring. I think that is probably the hardest night of my life so far. Bebe girl you are very missed.Thank you for making this horrible experience as easy as it could be VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital.
My dog was in need of urgent care and my regular vet could only give me an appointment several days out. My vet recommended VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital, and I could not be more pleased. The staff were pleasant, professional and attentive. When I called, they informed me of the long wait time for my dog to receive care the same day due to a heavy case load. They explained the new procedures necessitated by COVID-19, and let me know upfront there would be an initial examination fee plus any additional treatment costs. They began a file for my dog over the phone obtaining all the pertinent information, thus saving time when I arrived. Though the wait was indeed long, the wait was about 2 hours less than they originally estimated. After examining my dog, the vet explained the treatment options and associated costs, and carefully and fully answered all my questions. The cost was considerably lower than I anticipated and the care was first class. I highly recommend VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital for urgent or emergency care for your pet.
I have mixed feelings about this VCA. I had previously taken my heart dog there when he seriously declined and the decision was to put him to sleep. They were very sweet and gentle with him and I felt true sympathy. I then decided to start a wellness plan there with my other more complicated (health-wise) dog. The service from the vet has been good BUT the people on the phone and the accounts person needs some training. Apparently I was charged for a nurse visit to place a glucometer on him. They returned him to my car and never told me I had anything due. I figured they didnt charge me because of my wellness plan and I went on my way. More than 2 months later I called to ask about a food prescription to be told I have a balance with interest. What? I havent heard a peep from them on any modes of communication. She told me it might be a mistake and she will speak to accounts. After a week I call back due to radio silence and they tell me my bill went to collections! - and again the accounts person wasnt there. I was told to call back the next day. Again the accounts person wasnt there and I was advised to make sure I always f/u with VCA about balances due. Again, what? Apparently it was my fault a bill went to collections because I didnt call and ask if I had a balance ?? Wow. Ive never had to do this anywhere. Its just sad. I would spend anything on my dogs and have even recommended you as I own a pet sitting business. Ill never recommend you again because nobody seems to help me with this mysterious balance.
I took my cat in for mastitis, and she was rightfully treated with the proper antibiotics. But they told me that she was going to need surgery because she had necrotizing tissue. They quoted me $4000. I was devastated. I resigned to accept the fact I may either put her down, which was cheaper..but her tissue was not rotten, it didn’t stink like necrosis would. So I finished the prescription of the antibiotics to at least rid the infection and she healed up on her own and the damaged tissue either fell off or scabbed over and healed completely. At this point I feel like it is absolutely necessary to have a 24 hour hospital service for all animals, I also feel necessary to point out that is possible they may be price gouging desperate people who truly care about their animals and perhaps performing unnecessary surgeries. My cat healed on her own and I could have potentially out for 4000$.It is highway robberyFind another 24 hour hospital animal hospital.
Our dog Hank became ill unexpectedly and my son and I brought him to VCA. We were welcomed with great care and concern. Hank ended up having GDV and it was extremely severe. Doctor Fir said she would need to perform an emergency surgery, but she was not able to guarentee Hank would make it through. I called my Wife and we made the decision to send him to Heaven. The doctor and staff were amazing and showed that they genuine cared. They kept giving their condolences. It was very hard to let Hank go, but it was extremely appreciated how caring and real time staff was. I just called to ask when Hanks remains would arrive for us to pick up and I spoke with Gabby. She shared her condolences more than once over the phone. It truly meant a lot how they show they truly care. Thank you all.
I arrived home from a trip to find my sweet 9 year old kitty, Marley with a huge lump on his head and looked to have gotten into a scuffle with another kitty. Although the wait was long, the customer service was excellent, the cost was broken down into two options for care, and ultimately very reasonable. They took fantastic care of my boy. I highly recommend!!
*Do not take any pet with urgent needs here unless you just want vitals and the ok to take him somewhere else*Absolutely horrible service! I dont right reviews often at all but the service i received was despicable. I called ahead do to the urgent nature of my Dogs injury ((a possible broken leg)) and everyone said it would be at least 10hrs before he was seen. I explained the situation and VCA said they would check him immediately then if he seemed stable they would have him wait with us in the car for 2 - 3hrs then see him for xrays and wrap his leg if necessary. This seemed like the obvious solution considering the wait time everywhere else so i gave them all the pre-Check in info and we started driving. After an hr drive We Arrive, Park in a curbside service spot and call as requested. I tell the lady our names and that we are here for the urgent care and that we already pre-checked in.... She proceeds to tell me that they in fact do not offer urgent care and she doesnt know why anyone would tell me they do. She further explains that all they offer and can do is make sure his vitals are stable and that he is safe for travel to Blue pearl((one of the many vets we called that was closer to us so had we known this we would have went straight there)). After i express confusion she says hold on without any other prompting then a third lady comes on saying okay are you ready to check rig in for urgent care at this point i ask for clarification if they have an urgent care or not and would this include a solution to his problem or just check for vitals. I was then told she wasnt aware of any previous conversations that i had though if i wanted to check my pup in she can send me an invoice. After asking for further clarification of what kind of service im actually checking him in for the response was. Do i want to check him in or not. We left and are waiting to be seen elsewhere.
I really wish I were able to give zero stars as 1 star is too much. I want to be clear that this isnt a rating for VCA hospitals in general, but for the unprofessional staff at this particular hospital. We have a Labrador Retriever that required knee surgery on both her hind legs. Each surgery was $4400 and had to be done months apart. The first took place in November, 2020. This surgery required 5 visits which was covered in the $4400 payment. The first was for X-rays and lab work, the second was the surgery, the third for broken stitches (unplanned), the fourth to have staples removed and the fifth for a post-op follow-up with X-rays. The problem I have is EVERY single appt resulted in arriving at the hospital and having at least an hour or usually longer wait in their parking lot with no communication from the staff. It didnt matter that we had scheduled appts. If it wasnt an emergency, you were immediately cut off from your conversation and put on hold or hung up on. Apparently, we had the misfortune of arriving minutes after a high volume of emergencies EVERY TIME. On the third visit when she needed her broken stitches replaced with staples, a staff member met us at our vehicle. She watched me take off her cone and put her on a leash to go inside. An hour later she was brought back out to us with a new cone and they charged us for it! Now fast forward to March of this year. Same surgery, different leg and the exact same unprofessional service. The day of her surgery she had to be at the hospital by 8AM with no food or water from the night prior. At 3:30PM that day we called to see how the surgery went just to be told shes about ready to go in now.Yes, 7 1/2 hours after she was dropped off. We received a call from the doctor around 5PM saying everything went well and we could pick her up at 8PM. We got there at 7:50PM and must of just missed another emergency (Are you seeing the pattern?) because we didnt leave until 9:40PM. By the way, they were so busy that Uber dropped off food for a staff member and I could see her eating and laughing at her desk with co-workers when I looked through the door. Today was her post-op appt and it was the last straw. The appt was scheduled weeks ago for 8AM. My wife made arrangements for work just like any reasonable person would. The staff took it upon themselves to change her appointment by text message with less than 24hrs notice. She verified the change first thing this morning and arrived just before 11AM where she sat in the car until she called back at noon. Then they finally came out to get our dog. She waited in the car until 1:15PM before she called and asked what was the status. Now she was told our dog hadnt even been seen yet and was told she could leave if she had things to do. She called at 3:40PM and was told everything is done and we could pick up our dog. She arrived at 4:10PM and waited (of course) until 4:40PM before they brought her out. Thats when she was told todays visit would cost $457 for her discharge. You have to be admitted before you can be discharged. She was there for an X-ray appointment. My wife said no, this surgery and all follow-ups had already been paid and we have an itemized receipt that proves it. Thats when they said theyll look into it later. Look into it all you want, well see them in court if they try and send us a bill. Look, Im a reasonable person and understand the procedures due to Covid-19 and I know emergencies pop up, but this was EVERY single time and if you read the reviews, this is their go to excuse they tell everyone. So dont reply with the staff is sorry or disappointed with your review like you have to nearly everyone else. Sorrys only go so far when you hear them over and over again. Fix the problem! If youre under staffed, hire more people. If you treat your paying customers this way, one cant help but wonder what type of care our pets receive. Its very unprofessional and the reason well take our three dogs to another vet from this moment forward.
We are impressed with how they deal with Covid. Drive in, park, call and then they come and get your cat or dog. Then after they examine your pet they come out and discuss what theyve found or call you and let you know. I recently gave VCA a scathing review but I believe in following up on my reviews and I have changed this one because they actually followed up with me. Laura Cole reached out to me and looked into the issue. She kept me updated the entire time and spoke with the people involved. Lauras efforts went way beyond anything that I imagined and I am so grateful that she did. Thank you very much!
I should have known it was going to be a rip off when I was asked what my credit limit was on the card I was going to use...BEFORE they even came to the car to get my cat.360.00 for an X-ray, that a radiologist wasn’t even paid to read? 90.00 for fluids? 90.00 for one dose of nausea meds? I realize that this is an emergency vet but those charges are nuts!My other cat had a similar problem about a year ago, we went to a different emergency hospital and for the same treatment and pain meds, that visit was $200 less.Funny how the vet first quoted 1,200 and when I said I couldn’t go over $600, all of a sudden they could do the treatment for $650? Minus the bloodwork. The staff on the phone seemed nice but it seems they are all about the money. Especially when comparing pricing to past emergency vet visits. Not happy and I won’t be recommending them to anyone I know.
I had to make a horrible decision to put my dog to sleep yesterday after only having her for 3 weeks she was not spayed and I had an appointment to have her fixed but things where so booked out that the appointment was 4 months down the road. She got pyrometra and became septic and seriously ill overnight and I rushed her in to find out why. The dr was compassionate but the people at the front desk really upset me because all they did was ask me to pay for her euthanasia no I’m sorry for your loss or anything of that nature. It would have been 2500 to try the surgery and I didn’t have it. She was also so far gone that there was a very low chance of her making it through. The lady at the front desk honestly should have been a lot nicer about this because this was the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to do. I am blaming myself for this and it is tearing me apart that I had to make this choice and to be treated so coldly by someone just didn’t help. Dr. Was nice, but front reception needs to be alittle nicer.
Its fine as a PET ER most of the time. (THIS IS AN ER. NOT A FAMILY STYLE VET. PRICES WILL MATCH PROFFICIENCY) This time they didnt listen to me when I knew what was wrong with my cat and spooked me into paying for x-rays and ultrasounds and lab work over a uti, then only gave me half of the antibiotics, when I went back for the rest(after they called a few days later, not even same day so I had to wait until my next day off) then they gave me DOUBLE, and I was meant to get a special royal canin food that required chewy.com to message the vet, and when I asked about it a week later the woman I spoke with said that nobody had checked email because of how busy it was. I would like to get my cats special medicinal food, if you could please check the emails! Or if anybody has recommendations for a replacement, since it is now out of stock and my cat has been meant to be on that wet food diet for the last maybe two weeks and instead Im still giving her the remains of her kibble since the royal canin was 60 dollars and I didnt want to spend money on food i couldnt give her when the order goes through... normally theyre great I really dont know what happened this time but Im pretty turned off from this location just in terms of time spent waiting and going back and forth while my ESA was sick. Gonna be using the spanaway from now on.
My dog wasn’t feeling good, he hadn’t eaten in 2 days. I called and they said to bring him in it would be $120 to see the doctor. Upon arrival they immediately wanted payment and a $500 “emergency service hold fee”. Don’t go here unless you plan to spend $500+ and them not be able to figure out what’s wrong with your dog. They wanted $2,000/night to keep my dog to “find out what’s wrong and do more tests”. So glad I trusted my intuition to leave and take my dog somewhere else that’s not money hungry. I’ll pay whatever money it takes to make my dog better but these people are taking advantage of us hopeless fur parents.I took him to another emergency vet and they figured it out in 30 min of him being there and they’ll be keeping him overnight. For 1/3 of the cost! Save your money and don’t go here!!!
We’ve been here twice now for emergency service, and both times have left completely disappointed with the quality of service. The reason we fell in love with VCA early on was their patience with our fearful dog. However, in these two experiences at this office our dog has become more afraid of the vet than ever. They provide no support or strategies to make our dog feel better and refuse to see him unless he’s muzzled but provide no help to get him there. This last visit my fiancé was left with no help to muzzle him and told she was a bad dog owner because she couldn’t get it on. She was berated to the point of tears in the middle of a parking lot. After spending an hour pleading for help and a better strategy she was sent home with more sedation pills to try to get him seen. After 7 hours of waiting in the parking lot one of the technicians Rex came out to sedate him. He was the only one that would do it without a muzzle, he took it at our dogs speed and was able to get him sedated and seen without any issues. When we finally talked to the vet she was unapologetic and short telling us she had also been there for that long. The only good thing we experienced at this clinic was Rex, he truly understood our fearful dog. He was patient and kind during a time of stress. If you have an anxious animal I would not recommend taking them here. They confuse anxiety and fear for aggression.
This place is horrible they only care about money. They carried this poor hurting dog outside without treatment. They told the little girl who brought the dog in for help, unless she has 500$ to pay for its injuries we cant help your dog that was just hit by a car. Very crazy to me cuz.... since when should an innocent animal have to suffer because of MONEY. In any amount? This place isnt fit to be a animal hospital.
Please dont bring your cats here if you want them to live. The only reason I will ever bring my cats to any vet, ever again, is if there is a physical trauma. My cat was sick and quickly dying from what they told me was either IBD or lymphoma but they would need $2000 to do a biopsy to determine that, and then the treatment would be the same either way...I already spent thousands of dollars on visits by that point. All they had done was prescribe medication after medication that only made my cat worse to the point that she wouldnt even eat; thats not okay when youre dealing with a dehydrated emaciated constipated cat. I truly believed my cat would be dead within a month when they called and left a message for us telling us that were being irresponsible for not giving her yet another round of antibiotics for her UTI that they couldnt cure with 2 rounds already.I took it upon myself to save my cat. I researched her symptoms and diagnosis and looked for natural cures online. I found Vitality Science pet supplements and Koha pet food. I cured her seemingly incurable UTI with a month long round of fish mox which you can buy from pretty much any pet store, and online too, for very cheap, and you can find guidance and dosing instructions if you do internet search for fish mox for cat UTI.The Koha rabbit pate andadvanced immune restoration kit from Vitality Science are what saved her. Within one week she was eating and had put on weight, and her intestines were no longer enlarged inflamed and gurgling. It is a literal miracle that she is now alive and healthier than ever, at 11 years old.If your cat is sick, cut out inflammatory food and dry food, and boost their immune system. If you love your cat, just do this anyway. At the very least do not feed her dry food; it leeches moisture from the guts in order to be digested. Cats are bad at drinking water and staying hydrated so please do it for them by feeding them wet food diet and keeping water dishes readily available. If you love your cat please educate yourself as to how cats show pain or discomfort so that you can help them and they dont live their lives in misery and die from something preventable. Stay vigilant and keep them well, and know that a vet does not care like you do. If you want something done right, do it yourself.
You know I have alot of mixed feelings about VCA. First, they were the first vet to actually provide a diagnosis for my kitty that made sense regarding his asthma. However, my experience yesterday was the WORST. My poor kitty presented with some weird symptoms in the morning, called them right up and took him over. Since they are his vet I thought they would know more about my cat. However, when I got the call from them that my cat was going to die I lost my mind. I told them to do whatever they can to help fix him. Well, 8 hours and 1,600 dollars later they are not able to tell me what is wrong with my cat, they have to transfer him to another hospital because they are not 24/7 AND their initial diagnosis which consisted of him dying was not true. I went through every emotion possible yesterday because I believed my cat was going to die. After getting the final phone call to come pick him up, we waited almost an hour to receive him but you best believe I had to sign the payment paperwork within the first 5 minutes of being there. We were sent to Summit and the difference in experience in paramount. The staff at Summit are kind, consistent and honest. I trust my cat in their care 110%, VCA on the other hand im not so sure. How is a full workup, a 12 HOUR overnight stay and a CAT CARDIOLOGIST less money at summit than a full day at VCA? Thats really all I have to say. Im so thankful that my cat is on the track to being healthy and back to normal.
I think Covid-19 effect companies in many ways. VCA people care has got downhill very bad. I have been going there for 10 plus years, but after today will look for a new place to go. Most times you get there they put your call on hold now a days. Today after I drugged my dog, had a 2pm appointment and got there a little late @ 2:06pm call them and was put on hold. After 9 minutes I hung up and called back they asked if the call was emergency again and if I could hold. I told I was on hold for 9 mins and want to make sure they knew I was outside for an appointment. They put me on hold again, but someone picked up call at 2:22 pm I let them know who I was and was put on hold until someone else got on and said they I need a new appointment. I asked why did they not call before I got there, and they said due to it being 2:25pm now I was too late. I told them I was on hold for 18 minutes. The reply is why I think they do no care anymore. They said they did not have long hold time without ever checking with the other staff member. I told them they could look at my phone, but they did not care. I have been there for over 10 years with 5 dogs and lots of money. When the care goes downhill this much it is time to look around.
We had a situation that required emergency care. Every ER Vet within 500 miles was at capacity. When they let me know that they had an opening I sped there for help. We couldnt go inside due to COVID-19, but they communicated with us constantly while we waited outside. The staff was amazing and our boy is alive today because of their actions. They are amazing and I cannot thank them enough!
I took my 14 year old cat Aoife to VCA Pacific Avenue location today on Christmas after she became ill suddenly last night. I thought she had a uti or something, but found out she was actually in renal failure. Dr. Eilbeck was very sensitive and yet honest with me when I asked her if my girl was going to get better or if this was a catastrophic thing. She gave me space and support to do what I knew was right for my Aoife. The whole visit was handled with so much kindness and care it made the hardest Christmas Ive had a little easier. My experience of the staff and their procedures from the front desk, assistants, to especially Dr. Eilbeck was a 10/10. Thank you so much! It really meant the world to me. Saying goodbye to my best girl is going to hurt for a long time but I can look back on this experience and my choices with the knowledge that it was carried out in a loving and humane way.
I have taken all of my dogs to this clinic with excellent response and care from the staff. My Pug, My Schipperke and now my Havanese- Ohno have experienced excellent emergency and maintenance care. The staff is always compassionate and if they are not.... those humanoids just seem to move on ...... This office is great, and yes when necessary a quote is always prepared so one knows what to expect. It is the same everywhere you go these days. It is expensive at times to have and love our pets.I have even boarded at this office from time to time. I recommend this office often to friends and neighbors.
Was a good experience. The staff and doctor were so kind. Our little pup has pancreatitis..doctor was so helpful showing us how to care for her at home, as we were just laid off from jobs. The staff text us the following day to see if we had any questions or concerns. Super great experience. It was also helpful that Doctor went over prices and options. Home care is our only option due to finances. I would for sure bring my pet in again.
I called this morning to make appointments for my fur babies..its that time of year to get their shots (five shots a dog +heart worm test+flea & tick). I have two dogs and with their shots and exam fee, my total was going to be well over $700. I couldnt believe it! After further questioning we learned that the exam fee have more than doubled and is now $68.11 an animal. Ive very sad to have to find a more affordable vet, we would drive for well over a half an hour to get here but it used to be so very, very worth it...
Worst place. The only reason I brought my husky was because she had an ear infection and I didn’t want her to wait next day appointment at her regular vet. I spent 4 hours waiting in the parking lot. When the told me to call it was busy for at least 20 min at a time. At the recheck up I had an appointment and still waited 2 1/2 hours to get my husky checked and cleared. They want to schedule another check up and I asked them how long would the wait be and the lady on the phone said there shouldnt be be a wait because it’s an appointment. Little did she know that the 1st check up was an appointment and still had to wait 2 hours. When I called to follow up after two hours waiting in the parking lot, it was as if they didn’t even process my husky checkup ear and made an excuse why they haven’t looked at it after two hours from receiving her.
I took my chihuahua here for an emergency and they immediately took care of her. Probably only waited 5mins before they took her in. There is a fee of $102 at the beginning before care, but the staff and Vet were so nice and updated me on every step they did towards my dog. The next day the Vet checked in on my dog to make sure she was improving on her health. I definitely recommend this place for your fur baby! They have military discount and accept credit card.
VCA Veterianarian doctors and staff have the best quality care. They are exceptional, and go above and beyond their professional skills to perform their responsibilities in caring for my loving pet, Ringo. Dr. Gintz is awesome! He managed Ringo’s diabetes. Ringo’s glucose was going up and down. Now, Ringo’s diabetes is stable since finding the right insulin. The staff are friendly, positive attitude and nice. Good job and thank you for your outstanding health care service and treatment. . Doctors and staff returns call in a timely manner. I highly recommend VCA animal hospital.
Thank you Dr Dahl & all the kind staff at VCA animal hospital Pierce county at 10234 Pacific avenue. They took good care of my little guy smokey. 😊 It is always quiet and pretty peaceful at this location. As for the people complaining about the high cost. If they really care they should take a closer look at the u.s. healthcare system including veterinary healthcare. The problem is bigger than just the prices we pay at our local clinics. Get out and vote and participate in making a difference.
Called and let them know that I am on the way to get a dog seen. I drove 40 mins to their place and when I got there they told me they cant see my dog. They didnt even come out to assess the dog. I cant believe this is considered emergency vet clinic.
I was there for 2 hours waiting to be seen. When I arrived the vet took my dog out of the kennel and said this looks bloated to you?... and was completely rude when I told her my dogs symptoms... after waiting outside for 2 hours in the 85 degree heat... they asked me to wait in my car (which is unbelievably hot) with my dog even though my dog was crying because shes in pain. I explained to them my dog was having screaming episodes during the wait where she would start yelping Very Loudly, her response was I understand that, now I need you to get in your car and we will call you in when we can after waiting in the car for so long my dog just about had a heat stroke so I had to leave because my dog would die in the car waiting that long. It was another hour and a half after this that they finally called my phone and said they were ready to see my dog... my dog is still in serious pain and their negligence is at fault at this point. AWFUL PLACE!! IF YOUR ANIMALS LIFE IS AT STAKE PLEASE DONT GO HERE!!!!! :( I hope these people are ashamed of themselves
Be aware that, due to the pandemic, you will be required to wait outside/in your car. Our first visit we had to use the urgent care services, the receptionist, when I called, was nice enough to let me know the current wait time (and that it fluctuates), in total we were there for almost 5 hours, but they took good care of our cat, let us know the options we had and which they thought was best. They got her stabled up, and when we went back to have them removed they didnt charge us for that, and they were even kind enough to shave her mats off for us. Your visit will be quick if you have an appointment, which its hard to wait if your pet is having an emergency, but if its not, highly recommend setting up an appointment to cut down on your wait time in the heat. Our subsequent visits have been just as good. They offered to help us (for a fee understandably) administer one of our cats ear medication, but also offered us an alternative so no one would be more traumatized after the first attempt.Id like to give a 5 star rating but the receptionist(s) frequently dont let you finish asking your questions, they just try to get you off the phone as fast as possible - which I sort of get, theyre very busy, but if one of the first things I say is I have a couple of questions itd be nice to get further than one question, have it answered and then pretty much get hung up on.
We unfortunately had to take our beloved bloodhound here last week, and although it was a difficult day for us the staff at this clinic did their best to be efficient, comforting, and help us understand all options. Thank you to everyone who helped get our boy back quickly, talk to us about what was happening, and help us through such a difficult day. The paw print will stay with me forever and I’m very thankful for the effort that was put in to help us and our boy not be in pain anymore.
I had little faith in VCA hospitals after a wrong diagnosis many, many years ago from another location, hence the 4 star. That being said. This location has some what redeemed VCA hospitals. The price is high for Emergency care. But I am pretty sure thats the way it is at Emergency pet care places, much like Emergency care for humans.I HAVE TO SAY THIS IN ALL CAPS!! THEY SEEM TO BE THE CLOSEST TO US. AND THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN TAKE OVER NIGHT CASES. TRUST ME I CALLED ROUND. DUE TO THIS COVID-19.I SAT OUTSIDE MOST OF THE DAY THE FIRST DAY AND WATCHED AS ONE AFTER ANOTHER FUR BABY WAS BROUGHT IN.THEY ARE SO CRAZY BUSY I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY MANAGED TO KEEP ANY THING STRAIGHT OR KEPT FROM LOSING THEIR MINDS.THANK YOU FOR FINDING THE TIME TO MAKE MY DAUGHTERS DOG STABLE AND GETTING HIM ON THE PATH TO HEALING!!YOUR HOSPITAL REDEEMED VCA IN MY EYES.I wish you guys werent so costly. But thank you again for making my Zeus feel better. He is home curled up on our favorite fuzzy blanket with his favorite toy doing so much better.Thank you from the, Knox/McQueed household.
I would give ZERO stars if possible. Do not trust these people with your animals as they do not have their best interest in mind. This place is only out to make a buck. We brought in a kitten we rescued on Saturday, waited 4 hours to be seen and were told that she would be fine within a couple of days with the medicine and special food we were given. After 3 doses of the poison they gave us to give her and about 36 hours we were back at the animal hospital having her put down because she couldnt move, eat, drink or even close her eyes because her conditioned had worsened so much. Then after all of this we were charged for a full visit and over $300 just to euthanize her. Spent $200 on Saturday and another $500 to bring her in to be told she wasnt going to make it. Does that sound like people that care about animals? Why would no acknowledgement of the lack of attention to her condition on the first visit be made in the form of Im sorry maybe we could discount this visit since you have already done your part and we failed you?
In the past these guys did good neutering my rabbits. Now with this covid it looks like more ppl are taking their pets to the vet. Why is it that the vets no matter which one you use their not caring enough just to take the pet out of the hot car and place them in a kennel? Giving that the building is so big it cant be because there is no kennel. I have been inside a kennel area of an Tacoma vet. so I know its not because there isnt kennel room.
This veterinary went above and beyond for me today. I honestly was prepared to make some really tough decisions concerning my dog Atreyu, but as soon as he was seen, they reassured me I did not. COVID has hit everyone hard and I truly appreciate them understanding that my fur baby absolutely needed to be seen even though it was clear they had their hands full.
Our experience this morning was above excellence! I am very thankful we took our kitty there. He was old and sick with cancer. We were planning on taking him to be put to sleep at his vets office tomorrow. He started showing signs of suffering early this morning. So we decided to take him to VCA because they were open. Dr. Saylor and the staff were so precious toward us. She even placed him gently in the cardboard coffin they provided us, because I didnt know how. The cost was only $240 which is reasonable and comparable to other places. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars but thats the highest it can go. 🙏❤😿❤🙏
I can only give one star because of them doing the care for one of our cats previously. However, when we had our cat in on an emergency basis after suffering a violent attack from a dog we fostered, they wanted an immediate $500 to even put him in the consultation room. Once they had him evaluated, they came into the room with a $1,700 estimate. Their compassion for people in a traumatic experience is somewhat to be desired! They also told us another pet took priority over ours- we were the first in there; our cat with a fractured jaw resulting from a dog having his mouth crushing into his skull. What’s worse, they told us the cat wouldn’t be able to get the surgery until 4-5 days later! NOT AN OPTION FOR SAVING VITAL TISSUE AND BONE RECONSTRUCTION. These people, in our calibration were only looking at dollars and not compassionate care for the pets and their pet parents! They kept our cat for 7 hours before even giving him a full examination and called us back and asking to give them an additional $1,500 to just keep him stable and do x-ray! We discharged our cat and immediately took him to Affordable Animal Emergency Clinic in Auburn where he received immediate care from private owned, knowledgeable Veterinarian who is really there for the well-being of the animals and their pet parents and even makes efforts to help keep costs down. Our cat is now getting the surgery he needs sooner thanks to the support of ANOTHER veterinary care specialist who recognized the immediate and critical attention our cat needed! To the staff at VCA...not everyone in a critical situation can process logically without first thinking about it. VCA, Banfield and Blue Pearl are owned by Mars Company which is why they’re just in it for the $$$! Stick to your candy Mars, we don’t want your tricks when it comes to our pets and our money!!
I cannot tell you how grateful I am for BCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital. I was looking to have my dog euthanized and they were SO amazing. They were able to give him such a calm, supportive experience. Both my fiancé and I were able to be there with him the whole time. I would recommend them to anyone! Such a caring team
I waited in my car for 3 hrs waiting for them to see my cat still waiting then I called them to see how much longer &I got hung up on
They took care of our dog, money is what it is, but we were frustrated from showing up to locked doors and we waited about 10 minutes to get her inside. We waited an hour for her to be discharged after the time they told us to pick her up. She was ready for discharge the entire time. She was stuck by herself after a traumatic first time surgery. There apparently were no nurses to discharge her, so take that for what you will. Youre likely not going to agree with how they run things but it is what it is.
Called to verify they could see our sick puppy, even asked about an appointment and was told just show up. Drove over 30 minutes to get to them and once there they said they were at capacity. The staff didnt seem to care at all that they had just waisted our time and put the sick dog at greater risk. Strongly suggest you never take any of your pets here. Very poor service.
Amazing staff ! Super friendly and compassionate. Following all Covid protocol.
Absolute WORST vet I have ever been to. I will warn you right now, if you love your fur babies please do NOT take them here. At least not to this location. Extremely bad at communication in every way. They are very good about lying, and is the female doctor calls you to review something be sure to record the entire conversation because she will turn her words around very fast. That is if you ever get to talk to her because she is ALWAYS at court... wonder why? I won’t go into details of what the exact situation was that happened because it would take a long time to explain. I just love all my pets very very much and I am sure you do too, so I just want to warn anyone thinking of going here.... don’t! I will be putting all 3 of my animals into the care of a different vet who actually cares, and don’t lie!Jennifer
I have a 2-year-old German Shepherd that was very sick and dying been turned away from five vets. One vet sent me to the VCA They told me to go to the other one that was 24 hours and they wouldnt even give the dog 2 minutes to look at her. I said shes going to die tonight she goes oh Im sorry. After going through a list of other places still nobody could see my dog called them at 11:00 last night and said Im going to lose her if you cant see her they basically said too bad. I wouldnt ever take an animal to this place, I dont care how busy they could have spared 5 minutes I would have paid them generously.
Only reason Im giving 4 stars and not 5 is because out of the 4 (i think) drs that seen Smalls 1 of them wouldnt call to update me and when he did seemed like he didnt care much. He wabted to be off the phone as fast as possible when i called. The others was on the phone and answered questions and listened to stories about him when I just babbled. With COVID-19 going on,I couldnt go in with him and it was sad leaving my kitty to people I knew nothing about. But sent him home with very clear instructions on how to take care of him and what to watch for.Thank you VCA staff, Im glad you guys were there. ❤
Not impressed whatsoever. Just went in with my dog due to being an emergency, hes bleeding pretty good. Go to take him in to this emergency vet and first get told theres a 2 hour wait. Show up, theres not one person on the parking lot. THEN once we call to let them know were here and start checking in, get told that my WELLNESS POLICY WITH VCA doesnt apply to them, because theyre not connected, and that not only will there be charges, but they dont know when theyll be able to get to my dog, even though hes visibly bleeding with wounds. Complete and utter bs. Im extremely disappointed and many more words beyond that. I do not recommend this place, and would go as far as they need their licenses revoked.
I’ve been going here for my two dogs for about 5 years and have always had a positive experience. The entire staff is wonderful and personable. You can tell they really care about your furbabies. I’ve been there for annual exams, boarding, and even brought in a lost dog they helped me find the owners via microchip. I’ve recommended my friend to them who was turned away from other vets because of her dog’s behavior issues. She said she cried tears of joy after her first appointment because of how well they treated him!
Took my cat in because she was super sick told me it was a URI (upper respiratory infection) and took her in again to another vet bc she was getting worse and was told she has liver disease, possible kidney infection and even has a possibility of having cancer. There’s a huge difference between a URI and liver disease. I could of gotten her better and she wouldn’t be worse right now if they actually took their time to look at her and now she’s dying . Don’t recommend. I’m beyond heartbroken.
If I could give a lower score I would! I asked for a simple ball park estimate to have a cats tooth pulled. The person I spoke with said they needed to speak with one of the Drs to find out the cost and she would get back to me asap . This was about 18hrs ago and I still have heard nothing. It seems to me that there should be a standard cost, not per patient cost. I understand every pet is different as are humans, but there should be some sort of base price that they start from... that they could quote so that people can compare with other vets. I have found another vet who was able to quote a price and make my fur baby an appointment. I would never recommend VCA to anyone who loves their pet.
I just want to share that I refuse to see anyone other than Dr gents until today when I got to meet Dr. Jeffrey, My dog took to her like I’ve never seen her take to any other veterinarian we have visited this place three times this week and my dog has been horrified to go back in until Dr. Jeffrey walked in the room and you know dogs know we will return to see Dr. Jeffrey My dog Ginger picked her out and I accept I’m excited that we actually have someone we can make appointments with now thank you Dr. Jeffrey for all the love you gave Ginger today
I would NEVER recommend this place. I just moved to Washington and Im upset they are my closest emergency clinic. The staff is very unsympathetic and only cares about your payment options. You also must account for atleast a 4 hour wait time. STAY CLEAR IF POSSIBLE!
Has To Examine My Dog For $90 Just To Get Flea Medicine...Money Hungry
DONT NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! Save your pet and piece of mind going else where. This place is no good and gives conflicting answers to care and treamemt. Not to mention a rip off. They took a bad situation and turned it worse. I should have trusted my gut and went some where eles. Shame on this place.
I had my kitten on a care plan since he was 2 minths old and due to Covid was not able to get him neutered. I called to see if they were now doing neuters and they said yes. Then they wanted to tell me that under the adult care plan that he is on now it does not include a neuter. Really? So the fact that I paid for a year of that service that did include a neuter and now you are telling me I have to pay for the neuter? No. I bailed.
Worst customer service, Waited for more than 3 hrs a d I got no update I had to call repeatedly waiting for some information. I had to call 3 times and on thr 4th call is when I got more information as what was going on. At this point I am still waiting on update.
We have taken several of our furry family members, for almost 20 years, to VCA Pacific Ave Animal Hospital. Management has changed intermittently, but a core group of doctors has remained. Our beloved doctor, Dr. Christensen, was challenged many times my our various kitty ailments. Her heart is huge. She has invested her soul in our family, including the humans. We trust her implicitly. During her sabbatical, Dr Saylor took on our complicated brood, and did (and still does, because she also has a huge heart) a fantastic job of caring for the Jones family. There are other docs, techs, receptionists, and support crew members, that welcome us with warm hearts and gentle hands. Thank you! Yes, they can be expensive. Twenty years ago, they were on the expensive side. But, all I can say is you get what you pay for, which in this case is trustworthy and compassionate care. Don’t be mistaken, it hasn’t been all peaches and cream along the way. But, they do everything they can to make things right, and take care of every animal like it was their own.
Our family has been going to VCA for almost twenty years and during that time we have had a total of six pets. We are very happy with the level of care that we have received. That is why we continue to take our pets there. We first met Dr. Lisa Christensen when our first dog was hit by a car and needed emergent medical care. This sweet dog lived to be almost 16 years old, thanks to the care that was provided by Dr. Christensen. She is one of the most compassionate and caring individuals I know. She is very knowledgable and skilled, as well. Whether you are taking your pet to have routine exams or if needing evaluation and treatment for a more serious condition, you can be assured that Dr. Christensen will provide you with well informed information and options. She truly cares about each patient and listens to your concerns and truly wants what is best for your pet. I have always felt that I could reach out to her to discuss any medical or even behavioral concerns that I have had regarding our pets. After 18 + years, I feel like she is a part of our family!VCA has been a great place to take our pets. We have also received excellent care from other outstanding veterinarians at that facility. Its also a 24 hour emergency hospital that can provide top level and up to date veterinary care.Thank you, Dr. Christensen, for being there for us when we need you. Thank you for the exceptional care that you provide. Thanks to all of you at VCA. We have entrusted you with the care of our beloved pets and you have never let us down.
I was on hold for 20 minutes just to ask a question. I showed up because I was driving just to find 2 receptionists talking! The one tried to say sorry because there are emergencies, sure I get that, but theres no excuse to be chit chatting after an emergency when someone has been on hold for so long! The vet want vacant so pretty sure there wasnt an emergency
I appreciate the urgency with which your desk staff (her name started with D.) and nurses assisted with sending a prescription when I urgently low on my cats medicine. Thank you for taking expedient action!
This past Saturday I said “goodbye” to my 17.5 year old cat Daisy. Dr.Lisa Christensen has been Daisys’ vet for nearly all of those years. I can’t say enough about her treatment, and advice she has always given me over the years for the best care of Daisy.Anyone who cares and loves animals knows it’s a difficult decision to know when it’s time and the emotional experience of saying goodbye to a beloved furry family member. Over the years with my three cats, Dr. Christensen has always given me various options in my decision making and supported the decisions I have made. Dr. Christensen knows all too well this process, I’m sure she sees clients like me everyday; clients that she has provided service/treatment for their pets from the time they are a kitten/puppy until the time to say goodbye. On Saturday, Dr. Christensen gently explain the process that she would do and when I was ready made sure that it was a peaceful, caring and loving goodbye to my little girl. I was so appreciative that she not only made sure that Daisy passing was gentle, but supported me through this emotional experience as we talked about Daisy and her life. My friend who was with me, and loved Daisy too, had not met Dr. Christensen before nor ever experienced a pet being euthanized remarked how different this was from what she expected....the caring and the gentle spirit of Dr. Christensen made it easier to say goodbye to Daisy.Thank you, thank you, thank you Dr. Christensen, for being a beloved and trusted vet for Daisy from kitten-hood to her final goodbye (as you were for Hobbes and Fearless).
My wife and I have been taking our pets to this Vet since approximately 2006. We have had 4 of our previous dogs and our current dog either seen in the past, or currently by them. We have always had great experiences with this animal hospital and more specifically with our Veterinarian Dr. Lisa Christensen. We are shocked to read some of the reviews that have been posted over the last couple of months. I thought maybe people were talking about another place, because these bad reviews do not reflect our experiences here. Dr. Christensen has been a blessing to us! She has been the person we have trusted to help us assist our fur partners cross the rainbow bridge when that time came. She has always listened to our concerns and respected our decisions about the medical care that we all agreed on for our pets, as we could not always afford everything that was suggested. She helped us to find affordable alternatives and we never felt that our pets health was not her top priority when we would visit. We continue to take our current dog to this location. When it came time for one of our sons to find a location for animal care, he decided to go to VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital based on the knowledge of our previous experiences here. Animal care is not cheap no matter where you go. There may be other places that are not as expensive, but I believe that you would be hard pressed to find a place that you can rely on and we believe that Dr. Christensen is one of the best you could be lucky enough to have as your Vet. She is a compassionate animal lover and truly wants to do the best she can with the situation at hand. I am not trying to down play or dispel anybodys unfortunate experiences, but I also believe that not all places are for everyone. That is why there are several choices for consumers, no matter what the business is. We just wanted to share our experiences to help give data for people to make informed decisions. Thank you VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital and thank you Dr. Christensen for taking care of our furry family members!
This review is long overdue – I have been going to VCA Pacific Ave Vet Hospital for well over 30 years (the old building and the current building). The staff is and always has been very courteous and friendly to me.I currently have a kitty named Sam that is over 18.5 years old and Dr. Lisa Christensen has been treating him since he was a kitten. She is probably one of the most caring vets that I have ever known. She always follows up with me after visits and has always been so compassionate with all of my fur babies. (And I have and have had quite a few.)Sam has diabetes and when he was first diagnosed with it, I was very scared about how to take care of him and give him shots – but, thanks to Dr. Christensen she walked me through everything and now I am a pro and giving him the shots. She is so good with him – she follows up with me at home to see how he is doing (and how I am doing).I am just so glad that Sam and I have her as our trusted Doctor.Thank you Dr. Lisa Christensen for always being there for all of my fur babies and me!!!!!
About 7 years ago our beloved orange Tabby (Cubby) was viciously attacked by our neighbors pitbull. My husband with the grace of God pried open the locked jaws and freed our Cubby. My husband was not able to see the extent of the damage as he was late for work and as he left he said ran under the house and sped off to work. With that insight I laid on the ground in front of the small breather opening and called for almost two hours with tears in my eyes and no Cubby. I went into our house for a drink of water as this was in July. When I sat down I heard movement from our dining table and out came Cubby. When I saw him I immediately went to him and when I came from the stairs he was sitting washing his face. And I was relieved until I extended my arm over to the other side of him and saw his hind right paw pad. You normally when an animal, is in the sitting position you wont see at that angle the bottom of any foot at all. Cubby looked at me and stood up which looked even worse as a huge chunk of flesh was dangling where the hip meets his stomach. He attempted to walk and let out the loudest howl a cat could ever do. And I cried and he screamed. I ran across the street and got a very fast ride to the closest vet. And that was VCA. There were people in the waiting room as I kicked open the door and pleaded for help. They immediately got the box my neighbor got him in for unexpected transport. They rushed him in the ER and asked me what had happend. As I explained they said I can stay in there with him and I couldnt. I walked down the hall to wait and then I heard the loudest scream a cat could do. 20 minutes later they called me back there and they asked me what do I want done for him. I told them make sure he can get a second chance to live the life of a normal kitty cat, do what you can do for him please. And then I left. The next day VCA called and said Cubby was sedated still the surgery was finished and he is in ICU. And then said they would let me know more and I hung up. I was so worried and stressed more so about how to pay them.long story short I was able to take him home 5 days later and I thought they would have to amputate his pin and wired up leg. But Cubby made it through that pitbull attack and got to keep his leg too. No hinder no fuss and cant catch him when he gets outside. Hes not allowed to go out any more. VCA allowed payment arrangements God bless them they are the best and I recommend them for sure. They have boarding too. I want all to know there are the best. If you love your animals this is the place and they do care about animals and the parent. I cant thank them enough. Love Jim and Victoria.
LONG READ, BUT WORTH IT!Go to Summit Vet Referral Center instead if you have an emergency. It may be out of your way by 5 miles, but those extra 5 miles are WELL worth it! Ive been there multiple times and have always had great serviceMy experience with VCA on 7/2/2020 in the end, left a HUGE sore spot with me.I had my pet taken to VCA as my regular vet (Spanaway Vet) was overbooked and noone else could take him, and I wanted my neighbor who was taking him since I cant drive after my surgery to have the shortest trip possible. MY MISTAKE!To begin: The front desk, despite them confirming all my contact information, the information of the transporter for my pet, my pets history, and where to get his records (Spanaway Vet who are great and agreed to provide), claimed they didnt have it and I never gave it to them when it came time for them to contact me. They couldnt get the billing right, even though it had been thoroughly discussed. To their credit, this was resolved rather easily. When I spoke to the Dr., it was imperative that I give the provided medication and keep the collar that was placed on my pet. I expressed multiple times that I couldnt give my pet a pill as hes a sneaky little cuss and always finds a way to spit it out.Fast forward to time to give the pill. After a 2.5 hour struggle, before which I had to take his collar off temporarily as it restricted access to his mouth (I tried crushing the pill and putting it in his favorite food but he saw through that. He seems to always know when its medicine time). Even then, he always found a way to spit it out. I tried the pill plunger and a multitude of other ways to no avail, so I call VCA.I get told that the imperative medicine is not that important and its ok if he doesnt get it. Hiuh? Ok, so I get off the phone and proceed to try to put the collar back on.I struggle to put the collar back on, so I call VCA again (mind you, its after 9:30 PM, Im in my jammies, and cant drive since I just got out of surgery on Tuesday which I had previously informed them) and there response was to bring him in. Huh? So I ask for them to send me a pic of how it is supposed to look and get told they cannot provide that. I get placed on hold and another person gets on the horn and tells me to bring him down. I explain my circumstances again and say, Look. All Im asking for is to be sent a pic of how the collar should look and I get hung up on!I eventually get the collar on and he is doing fine this morning👍Including the exam, my neighbors spent 6 hours of their time, I spent approximately $500 for what effectively became an ear cleaning and a collar.Effectively no medicine besides an ear wash to be applied every 2 weeks. UTTERLY IRRESPONSIBLE!And they expect me to come back in in 2 weeks for a check up? OH HELL NO!!I have informed Spanaway Vet of this incident as I dont want their outstanding services to be affected and I hope they will take appropriate action! Summit Vet Referral Center IS on their referral list.VCA messed with the wrong person and I will put them on blast until they resolve this appropriately
Your better off taking your pet to a witch doctor.
What a rip off... They are easily 30-40% higher than other clinics. Gave my pup more shots then needed that were already given by breeder. Vet took advantage of my wife and didnt ask qualifying questions that would have saved me over $100. He went in needing only 1 shot (per breeders vet) and came out with four including an unnecessary flu shot! We arent veterinarian professionals we trust that when we bring our dog in you will give him what he needs and not take advantage of the fact that we trust the vets recommendation. $42 for a flu shot? really? After doing research its not even recommended unless the dog is held in kennels with other dogs frequently. Our dog has little socialization from any pets other than those in the house. No need for it! Why did they give it to our dog? MONEY, thats why. Highly disappointing.***Just to be fair we did bring this same pup in for an emergency infection a few weeks back and the vet did a fantastic job diagnosing and treating. They also have great bedside manner and a helpful staff. It was also great we had a 24 hour option but doesnt make up for the rip off tactics that took place today.
Worst experience Ive ever had anywhere! I took my 9 day old puppy in at 2am because I knew they took Care Credit and needed somewhere to help her quickly. She was crying for a couple hours and I couldnt get her to eat. They got us in quickly and told me that she needed to be put down. They offered to observe her overnight for $1400 or put her down for a min of $300. The examination was so short and I felt that they werent really trying to help me save her. I told them I wanted to give her a chance to live and it was suggested I try to feed her with a human baby bottle. Clearly that was too big and it wouldnt work. The very worst part of the experience came when I tried to pay for the visit with my Care Credit account. They informed me that their policy is that I must have the physical card when I didnt. Working in a dental office, I am well aware that they can easily look up my account online but they refused. I had to wait in the lobby with a starving puppy while my husband drove to atm to take out money we didnt have. I was left all night trying to care for my puppy. Once I decided to put her down, I had to call around to other clinics to take her in. Of course they took my Care Credit with no problem but it was too late for my puppy and she passed away. Horrible office in every way. DO NOT GO THERE if you want you want your animal to live or want to use your Care Credit. I genuinely feel like my puppy would be alive today if I took her anywhere else.
Took my dog in for an emergency, after $900 they called to check on her the next day. When I told them she seemed in alot of pain, they offered pain meds. Why wait? I had to drive 30 miles back the next day for overpriced meds. Then they told me they would call on Sunday. Its now Tuesday. No call yet.Its now September and my dogs face is deformed from them doing whatever they did. Took my dog back to my vet, they said its nerve damage, and that shes not in pain. Tests are too expensive to verify, but my dogs face has not returned to normal. Never trust these people with your pets!😥😥😥
I had a wonderful experience at the VCA. For an emergency this was a prompt and efficient place to take my dog. The price was not cheap, but you have to understand it is a 24 hour hospital and walk in clinics do things differently from other 9-5 facilities. What I actually paid was less than my estimated cost and my pet felt very loved and comforted by the staff. It was worth getting my dog in as soon as possible! If my pup has any emergencies again I know this is the right place to take her! The staff was friendly and so welcoming!!
They really care about your pets as if they were theirs. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. My 2 kittens only go there. I like the fact that they are open 24 hrs a day so when or if my kittens get sick I know I have a great place to take them to no matter the time. You may pay a little more here but they are well worth it.
