Where do I even start? This place is an absolute dread to live in. They are severely outdated apartments that are way overpriced. The management team is dysfunctional and unresponsive. They will try to charge you for repairs that are clearly not your fault. The only person that deserves their job in this place is Rob, the maintenance man.We just moved out, and paid cleaners to come in before our final move out and Kensington staff still managed to leach us of over 2/3 of our despot for a few small repairs and an unnecessary carpet repair. When we moved out, we overlooked the clause that mentioned the return of our keys. We received a phone call from Margie, the manager, and she was rude, snarky, and unnecessarily abrasive towards us.The parking in this place is also ridiculous seeing that they do not enforce the parking rules and let people that do not live there to parking inside overnight. Whatever you do, save yourself the trouble and forget about moving here.
Despite some of the poor reviews, I was willing to apply for these apartments... Then I saw the pet policy. No pets over 20lbs. You guys lost out on at least 3 years of business due to this policy.
This place is awesome! I have two very close friends that live here, as well as a family member! You get the small community feel, verses a huge complex where no one can even remember your name. I’m definitely eyeballing this complex for our next move once our current lease is up! My friends even rave about the manager, who also used to manage another property I used to live in. We adored her, and so do they!! She’s gets things done efficiently if you ever have any concerns, is very professional yet personable and friendly at the same time!
I Love living here the apartments are really nice. I love the Bay windows. I love that the staff are nice and helpful especially Kathryn. I Love all the Amenities, Pool, Spa, Gym, as well as a Resident Tanning bed to keep tan in this Washington weather. I love that they repair stuff within a day or replace it brand new. I Love that the units include W&D, Dishwasher, Fridge, and a Stove. They Also Do resident referral bonuses and they are Amazing. :) Its quiet and gated which is nice and private so you dont have solicitors. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. There is shopping within a walk or drive and the South Hill Mall is right down the street within a couple miles. Bus Access right in front of the complex. Its close to base 15-20 min and close and easy access to the back gate.
I recently moved in and I love my remodeled apartment. I was a little skeptical of the area but I feel confident with my choice now. I couldnt beat such a great apartment for the price. I would recommend to move here if you want to be near the freeway and close to everything.
Ive lived here now for 6 1/2 months & I love it here! Its only about a 10 min commute to base & right off I5 & Highway 512! The manager Denise is the nicest lady & she really does all she can to make your living experience a 10 & Jenna rae the leaser has such great energy and is so helpful! I would recommend these apartments to any family, military, student, etc! Great place
Joyce is the best property manager Ive ever had. She makes sure the rules are followed so ALL the residence live in comfort. Ive had some noisy upstairs neighbors and she always handles it professionally.
Really appreciate the time that was given to show me around the property and have my questions answered. Love the kitchen with little island.....makes up for counter space since I love to cook. Great place!
We have lived here for 2 years and would move in a heart beat. Parking is a nightmare during holidays and weekends, unless you pay for parking. You get a paper on your door every other month about towing if youre not a registered resident. Which is all but empty threats. Same goes with this new no smoking policy. The trash bins are always over flowing on weekends. After a week of moving in, the old stains from the previous resident have started to show on the carpet. They seem to have a new manager almost every few months.
I use to complain also, but these are apartments! Most of the complaints are things you will run into in any apartments! Apartment life isnt always perfect. It is the neighbors that should be critqued for not respecting their own fellow neighbors and community not managegment. Treat these ladies with good energy and kindness and you will be amazed the help they provide in return. They definitely look out for you as well. Have some patience. I just wanted to clarify again, my experience has been entirely different from the the two reviews written prior to me. I know these ladies by name as they do me and we communicate regularly. They are more than willing to help me out and go the extra mile for me. These two experiences could not be further from my experience and I have lived here 9 years and experienced the ins and outs of management that is less than perfect. Get to know them and your eyes may be opened a little! Good luck with the kids. Kids will be kids. Hopefully their parents address these concerns or you could possibly with their parents.
Theres never any parking here and the walls are paper thin. Its a little pricier than I think it should be, but what do i know? Other than that its a decent place to live... if you dont mind parking outside the gate... In Parkland.
I love these apartments and hoping that everything goes well with the application. I really liked the set up of the living room in the studio. Very unique. Nice fitness center. short distance to PLU.
The first year I lived at Kensington Gate was great, and then staff changed and it all went to hell. The apartment interiors are nice. The fitness center is seldom used so you’ll have it to yourself most of the time. There is never parking on the weekends or late in the evening so pay for a covered spot if you don’t want to park in a fire lane or around the corner outside of the gated complex. Maintenance is speedy and the after hours guy saved the day when my water heater busted. Though, the daytime staff may leave your door open when they are done with maintenance and leave it open until you get home after work to find out (personal experience!). They might also change your locks without notice and forget to give you new keys (neighbor). Ooh and the best one was when they posted copies of complaints about my neighbor’s dogs making it look like it was me complaining about noise upstairs, and distributed the notices on everyone’s doors with threats of reprimand/eviction. Little did they know I was friends with the neighbor and she knew I had already moved out (in the middle of my lease, and still paid it for while living elsewhere). They may also ignore complaints for months if they do something wrong. I moved there because while the reviews didn’t look the best it was a nice safe one bedroom for me, and it was nice inside. But it isn’t safe if the staff leave your home unsecured and try to get your neighbors to hate you after you submit a complaint to corporate. I moved out 4 months before my lease was over, and paid rent every month through the end of it because they said if I terminated the lease they’d just bill it to me all at once. I hated paying for two homes but it wasn’t safe to stay and they wouldn’t let me out of the lease. So glad to be done with them, and finally comfortable to submit a review after being out and getting (some of) my deposit back.
Beautiful place, great staff, loved the apartments. Friend rented here and recommended me and I can see why. Seemed to be plenty of parking, near tons of stuff to do, and reasonably priced for how nice the apartments are.
To preface this review, I have been a tenant of Kensington Gate Apartments for roughly 3 years.Parking lot: During the daytime the parking lot is usually empty with decent movement through the footprint of the property. You get the impression of adequate parking and no issues. During the evenings the lot is overflowing with people, many often parking in ADA spots illegally or in fire lanes. You have the option to purchase a parking spot and usually people stay out of them but occasionally someone will take the spot you pay for.Garbage/Recycling: The apartments have a centrally located refuse area. The recycling is always emptied and maintained while the garbage area leaves something to be desired. During the weekends trash will often overflow and spill out of the trash compactor. I dont know if this is due to inadequate disposal for the amount of units or a bad collection schedule.General area: There isnt much within of note within walking distance but you are close to I-5 and 512.Living area: The living area is what you would expect from an apartment, not much to comment on. The maintenance staff is good about taking care of any issues that arise.Grounds: The grounds are maintained by a landscaping company and they do a fantastic job. While the community is gated, the gate has been left open for a little over a month. There have been multiple vehicle prowls here and even a vehicle stolen from the parking lot so be aware.Other thoughts: The staff is friendly and do what they can to help you and make your time here enjoyable. Prices continue to rise with no real improvement in living quality. The provided appliances are all functional but pretty dated and could use an upgrade or some TLC.
I don’t stay here but I have been looking for an Apartment for awhile and this has caught my eye. Great location and close to everything. Although I see a lot of 1 star reviews I want to give this place a chance. Going to be applying very soon.
EDITI understand that crime can happen anywhere However the perpetrator who hit my husbands car was a known to not have the proper permit to even be inside the gate every single day. The individual lived there however according to your property manager, the license plate and car was not supposed to be there. Those gates ( as was told directly to me per the property manager) give a false sense of safety. Anyone and everyone can come in those gates and stay for as long as they want because there are no repercussions. You guys mightve cleaned up your act recently but in 2016-2017 your employees lacked knowledge, urgency and work ethic to run it smoothly from your property manager to corporate. Hell you guys still give us the run around for our refund, sending us to speak to corporate.MILITARY STAY AWAY. I moved in last year and thus began my problems. Parking is horrible. Many cars without permits park inside the gate. My refrigerator completely died 3 times (day after baby shower, night of Thanksgiving and a few days of having my son) and would stop working for a few hrs resulting in several hundred dollars of food going to waste. I also had to buy a mini fridge to save what I could. It wasnt until my husband and mother threatened legal action that management gave me a new refrigerator. The sink was always leaky which the handy man claimed was fixed.March of this year, someone broke into my car and sold several items. 3 days later a red car hit my husbands car leaving damage. In both situations, management said it is not their responsibility to handle manners of damaged personal property. The person who hit my car was not a person that was on a lease. I took a picture of the the license plate, had management look the person up, yet they found nothing meaning they were not permitted to be there. Both individuals said theyve seen the car numerous times a week but was not proactive into keeping them out of the property. I had to make a police report for the car to stop coming inside the premise. I was told the gate gives a false sense of safety (one of the main reasons I moved there)A few times I heard fights outside that included glass. With the new management, they were very unprofessional and not knowledgeable about basic processes. They would omit information when you are inquiring about something.I had high hopes for this apartment even after reading about poor reviews. My husband and I wished we would have listened. So a warning to all military families, avoid this apartment building and this area in general. It is not safe and dobler management owns several in the area.
Manager held up move-in date because Military family couldnt come up with a required Social Security Card?!!? even tho the Military Man had multiple ID including passport, military ID and Birth Certificate??? Id like to know what purpose/why???
If I could give the management team a ZERO star, I would give them. The new management team is lack of profession and lack of respect to their valued tenants. The parking lots are constantly fully filled and many of us who work till late evening have to park at the fire line. There are cars without parking permits parking on the limited spaces, but no one do anything about it. The hot water is so limited that only lasts about 15 mins. If outside temperature is low, hot water could last only 10 mins. Recently they change the new management team and forgot to provide us with the utility bill details. When we got a chance to get into the office to figure out the amount, they charge us a later fee because we did not step into the office earlier. In addition, they change the lock of the Gym without provides any notification to their existing tenants. The manager does not respect their existing tenants and it seems like they doe not want us to live here longer. I would not recommend this apartment
My boyfriend lived here for quite a while & I visited often. I always tried to use guest parking but the very few spots were almost always full - I parked inside the gate 50+ times & only once got a note & was never towed. That being said - parking is obviously a nightmare & unless you pay extra for a covered spot you might not get anything. Also the pedestrian gate doesnt require a key so unless its been replaced, anyone can get in. Management is dismissive, rude, & very poor at communication. Wouldnt recommend.
STAY AWAY from this place. 1st of all, parking is horrible, theres never any parking because theres always vehicles inside that dont belong there. Renting an apartment is expensive as it is so of course I didnt want to pay extra for a carport. 2nd, maintenance was terrible as well. Whenever I had an issue with something I was told I had to fix it myself because they dont deal with it. I had also renewed my lease 2 times and asked for a carpet cleaning because it comes with the renewal, never got any carpet cleaning. and 3rd, they charged me more than $400 for supposedly stuff that had to be fixed after I left. BUT, I had a thorough walkthrough done right before I left where the employee signed off on everything and told me everything was great. They never called to notify me of any cleaning fee being due, they sent out a letter but I was pcsing so I was on leave and didnt have a place yet so by the time I received the letter it was too late, it was sent to a debt collector. That was poorly handled. They have our phone numbers on file they could of called us right away to notify us of any fees instead of sending out a letter to a family in the process of moving and finding a home. And the person who did the walkthrough lied. I read the statement of charges where she said that there was a baby blanket covering a piece on the carpet that had a stain. Not true because the movers accidentally took all our blankets that we had set aside to sleep on our last nights there, so there was no blankets anywhere. Another thing she wrote on the statement was that I had a dog in the apartment and I claimed it was a friends. Yes I did have a small dog however, I told her that I had just bought him 2 days prior for my daughter to take with us on the roadtrip. She said it was okay and she wouldnt make us pay the pet fee since he was inside a cage the whole time and we only let him out outside. I even told her that if it was a problem I would keep him somewhere else. But she said it was fine since we were already leaving and he was kept in a cage. Well idk where that lie came from that I claimed it was a friends. That was never said. Overall horrible management, maintenance and a rip off.
I lived in this place for about 2 1/2 years due to my wife been stationed at Fort. Lewis. At first the maintenance and office were great but like some other reviews here say that they change management every few months it became a different atmosphere when you would call the office to come and fix whatever stopped working. They had a particular employee that every time you call would give you and I dont know rude-attitude for the simplest questions. The parking situation yup IT SUCKS at night/weekends or holidays. Couple of times we had to park our cars outiside behind the apartments in a dark street were your car can EASILY be broken into and no one would be able to hear or see anything and of course Kensington WOULD NOT BE LIABLE IF that was to happen. Even thought one morning(5am) while the wife was leaving to work at jblm there was a car parked next her that had been broken into. But yeah once Joyce left as a manager the slacking started to happen more and more. Earlier this year my wife got orders to Ft. Stewart so we had to end our lease and she is a CLEAN freak so when it was time to clean the apartment we did an AWSOME job well at least we Thought we did because 5 months later we get a call from a debt collector whos client is Dobler Management(the company who is responsible for Kensington Gate) saying we owe them $400 and change because the had to replace carpet, window blinds and having them to clean up after us. When we did our FINAL WALK-THRU with the manager at time everything was working from window blinds to dishwasher to sliding door and was spot less clean so she signed off. I REALLY cant believe they pulled this on us and since we are across the country we are limited on what we can actual proof of how we left the apartment. We just have the clearance sheet. Be VERY CAREFULL ON GETTING A LEASE HERE OR APARTMENTS WITH DOBLER COMPANY. WHEN YOU LEAVE TAKE PICTURES,VIDEOS, GO LIVE STREAM ON FACEBOOK(INSTRAGRAM ETC) TO HAVE SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE IF THEY WILL DO THE SAME.
Horrible management!! Plus horrible parking space always have to be stressed out for one parking spot. Resident always ended it up parking at no parking space! But got a call not to park at no parking space! Think about it where should we all park at? If there is no space front and back? Why dont they work on the parking lot make everybody happy and not worry about it! Cant go anywhere far at night cuz thinking about parking lot just wanna go home and find the parking space!! Lmao!! Why all the residency have to go through this unlike other apt give out one carport when they move in! This place is just horrible taking care of things!! I have to wait for the carport to be available! Never heard of that before! Dont think that would stay longer before my lease ends! Plus there is alot of things that they didnt fix it before i moved in and didnt cleaned up. Pantry was digusted with whole bunches of nasty cereal and wrapped cookies. Still there will not clean up!!
While the apartment staff and community appear to be nice there are several issues with the management company. The apartment I moved into had damage in the foundation causing rain water to leak and damage the base boards and carpet. When I initially told the office I was offered another apartment which I would have had to pay movers to move in to at my own expense. Upon moving out the management company makes very little effort to contact you for any final payments or damages. Several months after moving out I was contacted by a collection agency to pay for carpet damages based on a bill that was sent by non-certified mail. When I attempted to contact the management company I was directed to email them directly. In the course of our exchange I was told they are not allowed to make any further attempt to contact me than a letter per the FCRA. When I asked them to provide proof they told me to google it. This company has had several horrible reviews on multiple rent websites and when selecting an apartment, renters should be cautious to not do business with any complex owned by Dobler Management.
I knew I wanted to live in a dobler management apartment, they all are about the same lay out and comes with pool and gym, we only needed something short term, as we sold our home. I had gone to westmall terrace first because its less than a mile from my husbands job, at 1pm no availability, was getting desperate because of house closing and so went to Kensington because they had an opening, 2pm, gave them 84 dollars for both hubby and myself app fee and left a $200.00 deposit. The very next day not even 24 hrs, westmall had an opening 9am, I quickly went down and put out another $84.00 app fee and $200.00 deposit..i quickly called Kensington gate, before they had a chance to process...they said Nope you lost the 200, I called dobler management and because both are owned by both. They instructed me that its up to each individual apartment complex, the manager...Kensington gate, could have kept the 84 dollars, but for her to keep that $200.00 and it wasnt even a 24 hour decision which legally I could have fought it, but to me it wasnt worth it to me for $200.00 to have bad karma, REALLY Kensington gates, how bout some compassion, you know you rented that place the minute I called...shame on that manager, I actually saw her that next day at the westmall terrace when I showed up to leave deposit for the ones that I really wanted. I think her name is joyce, thank god she doesnt manage the ones I am moving into...this lady has no compassion, but karma does come back...its not the apartment that makes you home, its the people that run it and if this is how you treat people in general, shame on you...glad I was able to get into westmall terrace, they have gone above and beyond and im not even in yet....UPDATE TO MY RATING.....THANKYOU DOBLER MANAGEMENT FOR MAKING THIS RIGHT. This is why I was only seeking out an apartment in your system...all of the apartments are basically the same floor plans and offer the same types of things, pool, gym etc....so its basically what area you want to live in, which was near my husbands job..I have only been at the westmall for a week, but I can truly say we are very Happy, and from owning your own home for 15 years and then to go to apartment living. I chose well with going with Dobler, thank you again...
Residential renters are, en masse, an unsavory lot. That being said, this place seems nice, other residents seem quiet, and price is reasonable for the square footage compared to Seattle rents, and making a decision with limited time and area knowledge, well, itll work for the interim.I will likely resent the $50 spike in rent were I to choose to go month-to-month following the lease terms; that $50 spike, that need for control, will likely be one of multiple factors that drive me away from Kensington.Fleas are one reason.Layout of the 1 br is imaginative, at least. The 11127 building faces south and gets great light.A hindrance: you hear every vehicle speeding on 112th and likewise will hear the drone of HWY 512 from the bedroom, at least at the 11127 building.Appliances are dated but mostly functional; fixtures, counter tops, doors and cabinetry are basic to subpar [read:cheap].Shower water temp is inconsistent, I can feel it decreasing markedly in temperature in less than 5-10 minutes of usage. I cannot imagine living here with another person without hot water-induced fights.Further, the water in the pipes is fine but the kitchen drain and washing machine smell often of sulphur: not a deal-breaker, as I have lived on properties with well water, but be mindful that you may come home to these smells. Also, I recommend having white vinegar on hand for the final rinse of every wash to counter that smell in your clothing and linens.Parking is often a joke and this particular site is poorly planned; residents and their guests are and will always be lazy, will disregard the rules and so any rental housing plan needs to have more parking by default. No more green space contrivances, please. Multilevel open-air garage would be ideal for these sprawling strings of buildings. No more carports. The property willingly oversells them despite consistent occupancy in the 5 spaces in front of me.Expect idle threats of towing despite non-residents predictably filling the lot each weekend and now, as of April 2016, weeknights. I have seen 5 different cars in the fire lane in as many mornings.Having a gate is also a hindrance, as nighttime parking is nonexistent and cars frequently piggyback anyway, any time of day, providing zero incentive to follow the rules. Prisoners dilemma. There is nothing remotely of interest in the area and nothing is walkable; there arent even sidewalks.I like having the option to use the work portal. The property responds quickly to work requests, at least.Update: property management responds quickly to work tickets, however the maintenance staff are lazy and do not listen to me when the cheap appliances and fixtures malfunction repeatedly.
So many rules I am afraid to breathe walking around on eggshells! No sense of community!
No matter how nice the apartments or the fact its gated this place is a nightmare and the office staff are very stuck up and rude
