I had a very positive experience recently when my car was making a weird noise. I setup an appointment through the website (very convenient) then dropped off my car after hours. They looked at my car when they said they would, communicated every step of the way, and quoted a fair price to complete the repair. All in I spent maybe 15 minutes to get an appointment and chat with the mechanics as next steps were discussed. Ill definitely be making this my go to shop for any future needs!

I had a few issues with my 2004 Jeep Wrangler (a few I wasnt sure how to describe) and they did an end-to-end inspection and found not only the main problem I had discussed, but a few others that would have caused more maintenance in the near future if not taken care of. They gave outstanding service at a fair price and were communicative during the entire process. I highly recommend Five Star Automotive to everyone. Also note, they handle not only domestic but international models as they have not only worked on my Jeep but also my BMW!!!!

Had a very rusted thru almost ready to break rear shackle mount that i noticed last minute on my old ‘01 silverado & Jason got me in & repaired the SAME DAY!! Thanks A Lot to the entire team! I know this was no EZ repair having been on the truck since 2001- that’s a lot of winters! I’ve been to many a repair shop & never had such a great experience. Five Star did a great job on our car, they are very honest and open about what is wrong with the car and the order in which they think we should fix these things. They were also amazing about us taking a few weeks to get the money together after they fixed it and didnt charge us extra for having our car sitting in their parking lot. I brought in my Mini Clubman to get its rear left hatchback door fixed. They told me it needed a new door latch assembly so I gave them the okay to order / replace it. I get a call the next day that they could not fix it because there was a bigger, more expensive electrical problem. They also casually mention that my side mirrors are malfunctioning, which had never happened before.At this point I was understanding. I know this kind of thing happens. I didnt want to waste any more time on the issue, so I double down and ask if theyll fix whatever is causing my check engine light.I got a call today that they could not determine what was causing my problem, and definitely couldnt fix it.So there it is. The staff seemed to be made up of nice enough guys, but what good are a couple of friendly faces while youre actively getting ****-d? To their credit, they told me that they didnt expect me to pay for some of their diagnostic work. They still managed to charge me $300 without fixing a single thing.Avoid this place like the plague.

Ive gone here several times (unfortunately...) for issues with my 2006 Volvo XC90. Theyve always been quick, friendly, and did quality work at a decent price. Ive recommended them to others whove then brought their cars to them, and they had similar positive experiences. Anyway, dont drive older European cars in Duluth.

I left a 5 star review and am unable to find it to edit.I went here with some power steering issues. Got my lines replaced and now its been a few weeks, steering is getting stiff again. Not to mention when I left it with them that was the only major problem. Now there is heavy power loss in my Volvo and it scares me to drive it. Feels like its going to just die, so I havent driven it much the past week. Figured after dropping hundreds of dollars on it youd make things right. Feeling like I got scammed and taken advantage of.

Amazing Service, have been here multiple times. They will always be my mechanic while I live in the Twin Ports. Reasonably priced, efficient service. They go through everything with you and are extremely personable! Also their waiting room has free coffee and drinks, wifi, and a gas station cappuccino machine. (As a sugar addict, this was a nice touch!)

I have no reason to go anywhere else in town... Five Star has always been excellent about getting me in at a convenient time, making sure I have my vehicle back ASAP, and providing complete communication on anything being worked on. The only auto shop for my household. Ive recommended them in the past, and will continue to do so!

The service associates always take the time and explain what is going on with my car, and what repairs are optional/required. I love that they will take the time and educate me on how my car is doing, and things that I may need to pay attention to. I was referred to 5 Star by a co-worker after Id received some less than desirable service from a different automotive business. Since switching to 5 Star I have been amazed at the efficiency and realistic approach of the employees. Clinton and Jeff in particular have been a great help. I took my car in to get new struts put on, yesterday. They were supposed to do an alignment as well. I got a phone call 2 hours after dropping it off telling me that I need 4 new tires as well because they are all worn a little differently. (I do NOT need 4 new tires!!) Mind you, I just took my car in to Tires Plus a few days prior to put in my new rims & hubcaps and they did an alignment and printed something off to prove they did it as well. So I know my car was in fact aligned prior to taking it to Five Star!! This place 100% scammed me!! They tried making more $$$ off of me by not doing an alignment and trying to tell me that I needed new tires when I in fact do not need them!! I bought the fully loaded struts myself from Napa so I didn’t have to pay Five Stars markup on them!! This is just unbelievable how I was scammed and they actually made me pay for an alignment that they never did do!! My car literally pulls me right off the road!! Unbelievable. What a scam!!! They must think all good looking woman are stupid!! Well, I’m not!!! My father has his own shop & says, DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!

They got my car in same day 300 and got breaks and rotors done, bring my truck there today to get an oil change..

Overpriced on parts

I have taken my vehicle to 5 Star on 3 occasions. Each time they were friendly, explained the problem thoroughly and gave me options for repair. Each time the job was completed within the time frame I was given and within the estimated cost of repair. They even gave me a loaner car for almost a week when I had a major repair. This last time I came in at the end of the day when my check engine light came on. I explained I had planned to drive 7 hours the next morning. Steve got the necessary part delivered, the mechanic stayed a half an hour late and they made sure I would be able to drive it in the morning. Steve even adjusted the cost of the part to match the estimate he gave me. I highly recommend 5 Star Automotive.

It was a great experience for me. Easy drop off, worked with the same person throughout the process, and a same day fix for a problem that was hard to isolate. As a woman I am used to being told I am crazy or talked down to when my car experiences issues and I was pleasantly surprised to not have that happen here. Keep it up guys!

So my tune up went great so i decided to make another maintenance appointment, a standard oil change. I get there at my designated appointment time, the person acknowledged i had an appointment and i got told, sorry were so busy we cant change your oil till wednesday. I even offered to be flexible and come back at 5pm, theyd have to pay someone overtime but Id get what i needed. Nope, straight turned away. I ended up having to go up the street to valvoline and pay DOUBLE the price. Now i dont have enough money for groceries. Thanks guys. I WONT BE BACK EVER

That was the issue I didnt get help and was charged almost $200 I was told it would cost thousands and I had it fixed for under one thousands.

I brought my wifes Ford Edge in for an oil change and they found the front rotors were the wrong size! Only half of the pad was touching. A bit of a safety issue. Funny the dealer that we purchased the car from in Pine City a year ago didnt catch it.

So happy with the work I have had done at Five Star Automotive! Went in the first time with what I thought were bad brake pads but it ended up just being that I had the metallic type brake pads and the metal shavings were causing a squeak. Instead of just replacing them and making some money off of someone who knows nothing about cars, they explained the issue. During the inspection they found a different issue that I ended up getting replaced. A few months later I needed a wheel bearing replaced. They were able to get me in the next day (It was a weekend) and my car was fixed in the same amount of time it took me to get lunch. I very much appreciated the phone call from Steve a week after my repairs to make sure that I was still happy with them and that everything was running smoothly. Jason and his team are professional, thorough and genuine. And they have the COMFIEST couch in their waiting area!

Pulled in, twelve minutes later I was on the lift, less than an hour later I was done at a rediculously reasonable charge for high quality work. Thank you, Five Star Automotive.

Jason and crew at Five Star Automotive provide a solid experience for its customers. They are able to make people who do not understand automobiles or mechanics better understand what is going on with their vehicle. I have been able to have my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 Ton Truck serviced by his shop twice without an appointment. Each trip to Five Star involved a sizeable repair or fix. The first fix involved a replacement of my fuel pump while the second trip required a new set of tires and front wheel shocks. The work is completed in a timely manner without much sting in the price of the services and goods. I will keep going back to Five Star for its five star service.

On 2/5/15 I went to five star auto and they repaired the requested item plus they suggested a new brake light switch. I had them take care of that also. Then on 4/07/15 I brought it back in because the brake light switch was malfunctioning. They repaired it and I sent girlfriend to pick up my vehicle keys as I was unable to get there before closing. They re-charged her $147.50 for the part and labor, which was under warranty. They should not have charged. I did not find out about the charges till after the repair shop closed, so I called the next morning and talked to the owner and he said the technician would call me back to take care of it. I got a call from him later that afternoon and he said he would not refund the charges. He said it was a mistake and that they should not have charged for the work but could not refund.

Friendly mechanics that wont rip you off

Got a Seize the Deal coupon half price for a standard oil change for $15, and used the $30 credit towards an oil change for my Vortec 6.0 liter Chevy truck. I asked they upgrade me to the Amsoil 10,000 mile full synthetic as that I what I ran since I bought it used. I have been going to Kenwood Lube for this for my Duramax and my Vortec and they have been charging me well over $1205 Star did it on time for my appointment, in less than 30 minutes, very courteous and clean facility for a total of $82.00, so I only paid the $52 plus the coupon I paid $15 for, total cost me $67 vs $120???I know where I am going from now on, goodbye Kenwood Lube!!
