Decent hotel. Specifically booked a newly renovated room. The room seemed spacious even with a king bed. Bathroom was great. Great large shower.Staff was very friendly and accommodating. And the location is great if you plan to also check out ant places in Summit. About a 5 to 10 min walk to many restaurants and bars. (If you decide to not drive and have a drink)HAT Tavern on the lower level was good for a drink, but has super limited hours. (4:30 - 9 currently)The only reason they lost a star was for the pool. Really only decided to book here over other places in the area in hopes of using the pool in the morning during my stay. To be honest it did not look well maintained or at the least in need of a refurbishment.
My brother and I hosted a birthday party for our mom at the hotel. Every last detail was perfect! Starting with Carrie who helped arrange the details and ensure all went according to plan, to the friendly wait staff, and the delicious entrees provided by the kitchen staff. It was a very memorable evening for our mom thanks in large part to the crew at the hotel. They also gave us a very reasonable room rate for those who wanted to stay at the hotel. Thank you Carrie and The Grand Summit Hotel staff!
The Grand Summit Hotel is my home away from home! Staff is amazing, friendly and efficient! Lori at the front desk is ALWAYS a friendly face after driving 10 hours from SC! She gets us checked in efficiently, is super helpful and a warm personality! Big comfortable beds, great showers and amenities! This is a go to for any traveler!
Enjoyed dinner at The Hat Tavern. If you are looking for a tasty burger, this is your place! Terrific service and nice, casual ambiance. And how many places have red AND white sangria, cider and a robust beer menu?
Recently I had an occasion to stay at this hotel, and Im afraid to say the experience was rather subpar. At arrival, the hotel had changed my room from 1 king bed room to a 2 double room. First I thought I made a mistake in booking, but that wasnt the case. The next morning, I reached out to the front desk, and apparently all rooms with king bed were booked even though I booked the room two weeks in advance. The response I got from the front desk was Is there any reason you need the king bed? Well, when I book something, I expect them to be the way I booked them, but if unforeseen circumstances arise, I want to be notified at the very least. Plus, I was traveling alone, so the other bed was completely useless.Conversation ended with I will let the manager know, but I didnt receive any follow up till this date. Granted, it was a short few day stay, and there was no major inconvenience. However, the fact that hotel ran out of the room I booked 2 weeks ago, change my preferred room type, and make me question why I want the room I booked simply doesnt make sense to me.Business amenities of the hotel (computer and printer) was nice, but the room floor creaked, outlets were located at extremely inconvenient locations (right behind the bed platform), and sink drained very slowly. Typical old building issues.Overall, a rather lackluster experience.
The customer service here is a disgrace, the front desk and the account manager are rude and have no respect for the customer. The room is very very small with a king bed, there was a bad smell near the bathroom door. Still waiting for the GM to call me back after leaving a message two days ago.
Came for a costumes event. The atmosphere of the location is absolutely enchanting. But for a venue of this age, it was warm.. even in my personal room. Only downside honestly otherwise I couldnt imagine a more majestic venue.
Good old building maintained well. Good ambience.
I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has been nicely renovated since I was last there. The hotel staff was also very welcoming and helpful.
The first night wasn’t great so when we told the receptionist they were very nice and gave us an amazing room that was 10 times better than the first room. Super great people and free breakfast is always a plus ☺️
Michelle at the front desk always goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome! The refurbished rooms are well done and super clean.
The stay did not go well. See previous post. The hotel did offer an acceptable resolution so that was good. Hope there will be some training of some of the front desk people. I would consider giving them another opportunity. Seems like a very nice hotel.
Was my 2nd. time at this pretty hotel, however this time I took a room in the main floor, the mattress were like a rock, and the pillows were harder than rocks, totally disappointed, very attentive staff.they need to get much better quality mattress so the guests can have a goodnight sleep .
Great place. Super nice staff.
We booked one of the Atrium rooms for a 90th birthday event on June 26th with 30 or so people in attendance. After realizing the A/C wasnt working we complained, and was told the AC is on, be patient. Well an hour into the event, everyone was sweating profusely and started to walk outside and into the cooler areas of the hotel. We sought out the banquet mgr and complained, same answer the AC is on.... After some time I walked into the lobby looking to cool off, and happened to walk into an adjacent atrium room that was vacant. and cold as ice..... When we confronted the mgt staff, our complaint was met with, and oh well, then well you could have moved your party to this un-occupied room. Followed by a lie, that this was offered to one of our guests, BS. After further complaining, they took $100 off the bill. Geez, dont blow your entire budget in one day, and a hotel that was slow. This problem ruined the entire once in a life time event, and for people that flew in from all around the country, and stayed overnight in this hotel. At this point I am considering, far greater use of social media and a law suit. WE SIGN A CONTRACT FOR AN A/C ROOM. Not a sweat box. Sadly enough, I lived most of life in hotels, including booking many business functions, 70% in Marriott properties which was always top notch. Between the front desk folks that may answer the phones or not, to this horrible hotel experience. DONT Stay here, or a book a function, if your a frequent hotel traveller guest expectations or in need of a responsive staff.
Terrible service. Hotel room wasn’t ready on time because they double booked the rooms and the receptionist was incredibly rude and unhelpful.
Its a old style hotel but very nice banquet hall pretty big.
Very nice Atmosphere.And Nice Hotel.
Amazing pace an staff. Helped us with our every need!!
I did enjoy my time well spent
Weve stayed here twice and the staff is always very pleasant and accommodating, the rooms are very comfortable and clean and the tavern has delicious food
Lovely newly renovated rooms! Very friendly staff.
Beautiful antique looking hotel. Love it for what it is. Room was clean. Couldnt ask for anything more. I stayed here last summer for a wedding near by. The area is nice as well.
I had a wonderful stay at The Grand Summit. It’s an old hotel but it is now renovated. Clean and modern. The food at the hat tavern was great the staff were friendly. Front desk Melissa was great, very pleasant, friendly, and helpful with everything. Would certainly stay again.
I flew in at the last minute on the 30th of December and was able to stay at this lovely hotel. The staff was very kind and accommodating. The shuttle took me back and forth daily to the Overlook hospital for my grandsons birth and short stay. The room was nice and bed perfect. Thank you.
Historic feeling hotel, but rooms are cramped, floors are creaky, and the wall mounted AC is noisy. Also the wifi was nearly unusable.
Staff was very nice and the rooms was very clean. Great place to stay.
Went to a neighbors birthday party. Food was good (especially the grilled zucchini), the help was so on top of things. Everything looked great!
We had a lower level room over looking the gravel pit. If you get a LL room make sure it is on the pool side even if it is winter. LL rooms have great access to parking lot. But they charge $10 per car per night so youre better off if you dont have a car. Staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping staff was amazing!!
Nice hotel in small town New Jersey. Accomodations were really comfortable and the staff was excellent. Be warned- not a modern style, quite the opposite really. There is a restaurant/ bar on premises but it closes fairly early during the week. Would certainly stay again.
I love this hotel. Its old and antique like some comments are saying and the decorations are probably outdated but thats exactly why I love it. The bathroom has everything I need. The bed is comfortable. Too bad I didnt stay there for a little longer.
I had the worst stay!!! Room service and housekeeping it was imposible to get them in. The hotel manager was unable nor willing to listen to me. As a manager myself it was upsetting to see this behavior because as a manager we should strive to correct incidents and make things better.
Nice ambiance! Unique look for a city 🏨 hotel!. Food 🥘 is good! And staff very attentive and friendly. Recommended for any kind of events
First time staying here. Lobby is very nice with a fireplace and couches. Great restaurant and good complimentary breakfast included. Great bar! Very reasonable prices..Hotel Manager and staff very polite. Would definitely stay here again!
Well I guess I have finally found the biggest ripoff hotel in a state full of ripoff hotels. Truly bad.Small, dark, dirty, cold room, bathroom leaky faucets, ice machine dieseling all night, and imagine 2 doors in and out one to a dark hallway, the other to the parking lot, twice the break in possibilities!Do yourself a favor, please dont accept the key to room 54.They give you a free drink coupon when you checkin, presumably to kill the pain of the experience.I grew up in this town, never stayed at this hotel before though. NEVER will again.
This staff is absolutely amazing here I cant even tell you how great they are they will bend over backwards for you Ive been seen here for almost a week now because Im looking for an apartment I have a broken arm and one of the ladies actually met me halfway because she knew I had a broken arm to help me with a Burberry had the bag because my truck needs to be restarted but I just wanna say for the price this hotels amazing the Tabor because of the Viber says it open until 430 till 8 oclock which Im sure that will change they are the nicest people its called the hat taborn please come here its the best place the manager is absolutely amazing they work with you if youre staying here for long periods of time and all I could say is that this is a best experience I ever had at a 5 star hotel
It is an old fashioned hotel, clean, quiet and friendly staff. Everything is old and well maintained. Location cant be better: Near shops, restaurants and the train. You can be in NY Penn station in an hour. The Summit train station is walking distance from the hotel. Has a gym and YMCA access. Breakfast is great and included. The neighborhood is beautiful, it is a historic district. Much recommended, you will enjoy it.
Historic hotel. Prices were fine. Room was a bit smaller but charming and clean. Staff was fine. Location was great. Local food options are awesome. All in all, a little different from most chain hotels, if only slightly, but a great experience.
Worst hotel in the area. Camille has no customer service skills. DIDNT EVEN CHECK IN
Im torn on this place. On one hand, I love the history and old bones. On the other hand, I wish theyd update the rooms a bit. The Hat Tavern in the basement has an excellent beer selection and the burgers are great.
Great location within walking distance of downtown Summit. Beautiful lobby and rooms have old fashioned charm. Room location matters so try to get off the first floor for less noise. In house restaurant is good.
Room was poorly temp controlled. Freezing with heat off, extremely dry in the room with heat on. Not enough blankets for the bed. TV was not showing picture well. Early leaf blowing was extremely loud right outside my room window. Shower was too small for my taste. Staff was friendly but check in was very slow with an online reservation. Breakfast was quite good. Hotels age shows, if you like history, cool, if you prefer less pretentious simple comfort, bad.
I work a couple blocks down from this hotel but live almost an hour away. In the light of the snow storm on monday i did not want to chance driving home so booked a room. And it will be my go to snowy day home away from home. Clean, nice sized rooms, friendly staff, quiet with a nice little resturant in the hotel, also fairly priced for the area.
We went to the Grand Summit Hotel to rent a car. The hotel itself was clean and welcoming. The car rental office was easy to find. The assistant was helpful. It was an easy experience to rent a car from this facility.
Gorgeous earthy looking lobby. $15 daily parking fee. Free complimentary hot breakfast. Room had no microwave or fridge unless needed with an additional charge. The room and bathroom are very spacious. Very friendly staff. Its walking distance to all the major shops, restaurants & train station
Great historical hotel. Rooms are small but adequate. The Hat Tavern restaurant in the hotel is good. The pillows are horrible. Bring your own if you can
Very cool hotel in the middle of a residential neighborhood but only 5 minute walk from downtown Summit with plenty of restaurants and some unique shops, train station, Subway, Starbucks etc. Hotel is way old but is undergoing room renovations. Hard to find electrical outlets near bed, hope they fix that. creaky floor, took forever to get hot water in shower and it never got really hot. Tavern in basement is pretty cool but the bartender service was unfriendly. All in all a unique place not for everyone.
Old school charm but the rooms are getting an update. The breakfast isnt as good as is used to be due to be management. Now it just feels like a La Quinta Inn breakfast. Still, the staff is very kind and attentive.
What a hidden gem of a hotel. Just the right level of grand. Really enjoyed comping back to this place.
I stayed at the Grand Summit during a blizzard snowstorm when my husband was admitted to a nearby hospital. The staff was so kind and supportive and drove me back and forth to the nearby hospital in one of the engineering department trucks when no other transportation was available and few vehicles were on the road due to the severity of the storm. The caring staff was such a comfort and a huge help. It is a very classy, quaint, and beautiful hotel.
Went to a professional event held at The Great Summit Hotel. It was a lovely venue, and the food was good. I cant speak much as of the quality of the rooms as I didnt stay at the hotel overnight but there was sufficient parking and the place in general was clean.
There were bedbugs, the room had fine dust particles coming from the AC unit. The staff were completely unhelpful.Id strongly advice to not stay at this hotel.
The best, cozy.
Ok.
Clean and comfortable in a very nice surrounding area.
Was here for an event. Hotel is beautiful, and service was great. Food was good but not amazing, and there was no seating during a very crowded cocktail hour. Overall, definitely a great place for events like weddings and such.
I would not recommend this property. It is very old and not well maintained. The smell is very musky with a creepy feel.As an added guest experience, they charge $2 for coffee in the lobby. I will not return to this hotel.
Attended a social event at the hotel recently, and was very impressed. Set near downtown Summit, its close to shopping and restaurants. Facilities were very good, and staff was friendly. Lots of old world charm.
The hotel was very quaint, the staff was helpful. The room was perfect. We got a good nights sleep and they offer a full breakfast. Thumbs up for the Grand Summit Hotel.
My amazing friends are having their wedding at this fine establishment. Memories forever. This place is top notch with a very courteous staff.
Rooms are dated, but well maintained, gives a very New York feeling. Excellent staff well lit parking. Shuttles to local major complexes
The bar (Hat tavern) was a little hard to find. But when we did, it for the bill fine! Decent beer selection (including some good local brews). Shared the meatball appetizer and it was very tasty!
Its a beautiful place to spend Christmas. Me and my family go every year. Wonderful Christmas brunch buffet. Only issue was the guest elevator ... it smelled like a toilet for most of our 3 day stay.
Quaint. Basic accomodations. Bedding average-sheets were not high quality, no pillow top. Mattress very hard. Small tv mounted across room so hard to see.
WONDERFUL Hotel great service friendly staff Clean comfortable rooms I just love it here
Best prices for this area. Run down. Shuttle only available during business hours (when you dont need it). WiFi is intermittent at best 8am-12pm. Breakfast that comes with room is good.
Nice historic hotel. Not updated but doesnt feel old or poorly kept. Very lively restaurant good for drinks or food.
I would like to commend the security night guard, Neomiah. I was having trouble going to the bathroom but I took one look at him, and it came out then and there. My team and I had lots of fun seeing who would survive the night. I remember walking down the hallway at around midnight and felt that something was off, different. I looked behind me and he was there. I tried to run away from him but his walk makes Usain Bolt look like a dyslexic snail. The elevator doors closed just as his 5 foot long stems reached out to grab me. 10/10 would recommend.
Son went to a bar mitzvah there. Staff was great and according to the him the food was very good. Wonderful place for a large gathering.
Clean, neat, reasonable rooms. Not our first stay, and we will go back again. Friendly staff, nice pub, dining option. Food was good. We like this Hotel.
Service was great, buffet was not! Food was cold and yucky.. way over priced.
We loved our stay at The Grand Summit Hotel! The staff was very courteous and professional. Our room was spotless and our bed was very comfortable. We had a great dinner at the Hat Tavern and enjoyed our breakfast there as well.
We booked a room here weeks in advance for the night after Thanksgiving, based largely on the reputation and reviews. We specifically booked a suite because we needed two separate bedrooms so the 17-year-old girl traveling with us had her privacy. We got to the room, which had one bed and a pullout sofa that when extended, actually bumped up against the bed. We went back to talk to the person at the desk, Michael, who told us hed upgrade us to one of the Presidential Suites at no additional cost. The suite, however, had only one bed--no other sleep surface--and was unbearably musty. We went back to Michael to explain, in depth, that we needed, at a minimum, two beds, but preferably private, and that this is what we had reserved. Michael then told us hed put us in a different Presidenial Suite with a separate sleeping area. Back up we went in the only working elevator (of two), which smelled distinctly like flatulence, for lack of a better word. The next Presidential Suite did indeed have a separate area, but with no light; no bed, sofa, or cot; and it was unheated...in late November. It was more like an oversized bay window than a room and it didnt look like it could fit even a cot. Back down to Michael, who, noticing our frustration, assured us that he was doing us a favor and we should be grateful to him for the customer service he was offering us. When we tried to explain that the room lacked a second bed, Michael assured us that the room did have a bed, a king-sized bed, in fact. We said wed meant a second bed, to which he offered the same information There IS a bed, a king over and over, in a tactic akin to These are not the droids you are looking for but less successful. In the end, he couldnt give us either the type of room wed reserved or a reasonable alternative, and the entire exchange was not only frustrating but he was smug and he more mimed customer service skills than actually providing them. None of our party of three or any of the people who we were traveling with would either stay here or recommend it.
Have attended many functions here. Just food, nothing bad or outstanding. Clean, nice meeting rooms.
We booked a room on Dec 14th online for our niece to stay 2 nights Dec 19th and the 20th we put it on a cc we received notification that everything was set. well she gets there and the guy behind the front desk tells her the cc was declined (wrong Answer!) then he says we are having trouble with our terminal (wrong again) so we give him the cc# over the phone and they say declined (again wrong!) 20 minutes go by and she is standing in lobby luggage and guitar in hand now it about 11:00 pm so front desk calls the Manager Camille and explain to her what happen, her response do not let her in the room until you have payment I go up there with the same cc and pay for the room and I am furious of how my niece was treated, bottom line they were so concerned about the $109.00 instead of the guest! so in the future we will be calling the Short Hills Hilton and our family frequents the Hat Tavern weekly, not so much anymore.
Hotel was nice. Rooms were clean and cared for. Staff was helpful and friendly. A real surprise service. Thank you!.
We stayed there before a family member had to get test done early the next morning. No microwave but you can request a fridge it will cost 20 dollars more. Pool is small but nice and clean area and pool. There was a must a wired smell like it was damp for a long period of time room and hallway. Myself and another guest mad the same face when we walked in.
Great to see the Hat Tavern full of customers. The menu is less fancy than it used to be, and thats a good thing. Service was quick and polite. Going back for sure.
Couldnt get the fancy shower to work. Swimming pool area was shut down and terrible looking. Door to room had a gap at the top. Key card always took at least 5 swipes before working. Access to YMCA mute because YMCA was closed for Easter. Fitness center exercise bike in poor condition. Not enough bathroom towels or linen provided. Ragged old furniture in the room (lounge chair, table and refrigerator).
We had our daughters Bat Mitzvah there this year. Jimmy and his staff were more than accommodating and attentive to all of our needs. My friends who have been there 3 yrs earlier commented on how the remodeling of the dining room really was beautiful and gave it a beautiful look. Jimmy threw in extras ( top shelf beer and some upgrades to menu) at no extra charge. We have been to many of these affairs and this venue and food selection was up there with even the most expensive ones!
This hotel used to grand, and at one point in time, probably seen as one of the most prestigious hotels in New Jersey. Unfortunately, that time has passed. If renovations were carried out, fixing the toilets that never stop running, updating the locks, replacing the window units, and putting screens on the bathroom windows, it would a very nice hotel. And if there were nice staff in the hotel restaurant, and not that crabby old lady, they would have earned my 5 stars. That said, this hotel is in a good location and I would still recommend staying here. Its a short walk to the train station and they can accommodate large parties and corporate retreats well with their large ballroom. This is a historic hotel that has stood the test of time.
Historic looking building and rooms with a lot of age and character. The restaurant downstairs served up some tasty food and have a decent selection of brews. The rooms are small, but clean. The bed was fairly firm and comfortable. The floors in the room were super creaky which was slightly irritating, but thats really my only complaint.
The room was clean, the bed was soft. The staff was friendly. People complain about the smell. It smells old but not in a bad way? Like, it doesnt smell moldy or unclean, just that smell that buildings get when they get to be a hundred. The breakfast buffet had a nice selection, and the hat tavern staff was nice.
Five weeks here at the Grand Summit and I will be back. This place is run like a London five star. For the front of house staff, nothing is too much to ask. They have all been a great help.Hat Tavern is one of the best places to eat and drink in Summit. Exceptionally great value food and entertainment. A beautiful historic place to stay, comfy beds cosy rooms. Extra fancy ones by the pool.Sunday brunch buffet in The Hat Tavern is unbelievable!!!!!The finest anywhere I have experienced. There is even a personal omelette chef and a fresh seafood section any fishmonger would be proud of.The longer I stay here, I want to make it my home.Thank you to all the staff for making my two month stay an absolute pleasure.Back in February, if not before.
Never heard of this chain but the staff was very accommodating. I was new to Summit and they offered lots of assistance/recommendations. The hotel is older. Breakfast was great and served every morning.
We stayed while attending my cousins wedding and it was Great. Modern, clean and inviting. We were a large group and the staff was super-accomodating.
This guy is a total bonehead. My client needed a place to stay due to a fire on her home. I went on line and booked the hotel like I often do for my clients and I received a confirmation number just like all the other hotels except this Grand Summit Hotel refused to allow my client to stay because she physically didnt have the credit card. Well of course she didnt have the card. Its my card and Im 115 miles away. My client calls me at 11:40pm upset she has no place to stay. I called the hotel and the guy wants me to sign an authorization form. Great email it to me and Ill send it back. Wrong this moron doesnt know how to email only fax. Im not at my office where my fax machine is, how about you just tell me where to down load a blank form and Ill print it and fax it back to you. Ugh. Umm. Download, whats that mean. I cant deal with morons. This guy is in charge of this great hotel, what a joke.
Lack of breakfast and other small touches that make business travel easier. But if you want old school classy atmosphere, you could do worse.
Decent hotel. Definitely an old building and could use some more updates. Waited at the desk for a long time to get checked in. Took 3 key tries to get one that worked.
My updated review.Renovations are wonderful. The new management team is great. They are working hard to take care of guests.
Went here for drinks. Casual atmosphere inside a fancier hotel. Drinks were strong and well priced. Live music and outdoor seating
Stayed here for a wedding and it was really nice! The front desk attendant was extremely helpful all through my stay! Thank you!
