I attended the gym for a few months right when I moved to the area. The facilities are very good and the staff is friendly and helpful. I did not attend any classes, instead doing open gym hours. However, the classes looked well-programmed and executed. The staff was also supportive of me doing my own workouts during open gym. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for fitness classes or a place to do their own workouts.
First off, the community at Workhorse Athletics is very accepting and encouraging. I really love that.The second thing is that it’s an impressive environment with a professional staff and trainers. You don’t ever see a trainer walking around in a pair of jeans and no shirt during a training session like I have at some other gyms that I’ve joined. The lack of professionalism can be very discouraging, I’ve found, and Workhorse Athletics is exceptionally professional while encouraging and affable at the same time.
I joined Workhorse about 4 months ago and I love the energy here. I was looking to create healthy habits and I find the coaches to be knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Everyone is very supportive of one another which makes the experience that much better. The classes always offer something new and challenging. I’m really happy that I made this decision for myself.
I joined Workhorse looking for a gym to get myself back into a fitness routine. I tried other gyms but felt they lacked a team or family mentality. From day one with Workhorse I knew this was different. Coaches referred to everyone as a team member, and ensured they knew everyone on a first name basis. The workout routine was different everyday and challenged the development of different parts of the body, something I personally was looking for. During these workouts, coaches would ensure each member was performing movements properly to maximize their experience. Reinforcing the team/family feel was how other members, no matter the skill level cheered on each other; truly something I havent seen too much in various gyms. The only reason I had to cancel my membership was due to a military move for 6 months, to which I have every intentions of returning upon completion of my orders.I highly recommend this gym for any skill level, coaches can modify any workout to meet and or challenge a team members needs. Tons of friendly faces and an amazing team mentality feel from every member. Anyone can walk into Workhorse and not feel intimidated; but feel they will be gaining an amazing fitness experience and a team of athletes that will reinforce their choice to pursue physical fitness.-Sean.
More than just a gym, this is a family. I started at Workhorse in late 2017 and, unfortunately, had to move away in January 2021. Words cannot do justice to the atmosphere and environment of Workhorse. Every coach is invested in seeing members thrive and succeed, and the community of members themselves is unmatched. Workhorse became my place for ‘me time’, away from all the stress of work. You will never find a better ‘fit family’ to make your own and I can’t wait until we’re able to move back!
Two and a half years ago I walked in to my introductory class with Workhorse Athletics. I was a 43 year old mother of three, out of shape - had never been IN shape, never lifted a barbell or used a rower and was intimidated and scared out of my mind to be there that day....and, honestly, for many days after that. But the coaching was always, ALWAYS patient, professional and encouraging and the community so welcoming. I’ve done things in this gym I never thought I could do. I’m stronger, healthier, happier and more confident because I took a chance on that free class. Workhorse Athletics has become my favorite way to start a day.

This gym is great! I joined about 4 months ago and have been very happy with my decision. I was pretty nervous to join, but the coaches and members are extremely welcoming and really fun to be around! I initially signed up thinking I would do about 2-3 workouts/week but that quickly changed to 4-6 times a week! The coaches are attentive and give great constructive feedback. If youre thinking about trying this gym, dont wait!
I have been at workhorse for over 100 days now, and it has become my second home. I came from Orangetheory and needed something new, and Workhorse gave me just that. I look forward to going, and the days I am too tired or just not in the mood to go as soon as I walk in the door I am greeted by coaches and member with Glad to see you good Morning How are you doing and it completely changes my mood. This place truly has a family feel...it is a great feeling to go through a tough workout and feel like we are all in this together! Love my workhorse family :)
Seven months ago, I had knee replacement surgery at the relatively young age of 47. My doctors told me that, if I followed their rehab plan, I could be back to pre-surgery mobility and strength in a year. After reviewing their plan, I realized that 1) It only worked the surgical leg, and I needed a more comprehensive plan. And 2) it wasn’t going to get me back to pre-surgery levels as it was built for older, less mobile, people.For this reason, I decided to speak with Ryan at Workhorse Athletics about working together, post-surgery, to re-build my leg strength and overall fitness goals. After agreeing to work with me, Ryan built a whole-body plan that allowed me to work on gaining whole-body strength and mobility while my knee healed. As my knee continued to heal, Ryan created appropriate strength exercises that supported regaining strength, stability, and mobility in my surgical knee.My time with Ryan has also focused on improving lifestyle choices and developing better habits towards my nutrition, hydration, sleep, and stress. We speak weekly about these areas and work towards making small, subtle changes that will improve my quality of life.I also need to highlight Ryan’s staff of coaches. Since my post-surgery began, the entire Workhorse Athletics staff has gone out of their way to help make my time at the gym easier - moving equipment for me, explaining exercise modifications, even switching the music to my favorites when I’m there. Ryan has been truly amazing to work with and, after only 6 months of working together, I’ve exceeded all my pre-surgery fitness measures! I’m stronger, faster, more flexible, looking great and pain free. I couldn’t have done it without him and can’t recommend him and the team at Workhorse Athletics enough.
My husband and I have been members of Workhouse Athletics for about 3 years now and we absolutely love it! The gym has such a fun, friendly atmosphere with such a welcoming community. The coaches are very knowledgeable, encouraging, and ready to assist/advice as needed. This gym is great for people that love functional fitness whether extremely athletic or just need a good sweat! This gym is also super clean which I can’t say for other gyms I’ve visited. It helps that the owners are pretty great too!
I was a member for just over 2 years here. They have a wonderful community and great coaches. I loved the flexibility of their hours and I felt like the gym was equipped with everything I needed.
I joined Workhorse Athletics in June 2020 and it’s hands down one of the best boxes I’ve been apart of. The coaches and workouts push me to be a better version of myself everyday. My form has improved significantly and the coaches take the time to explain the dynamics and importance of each workout. I also have a genuine appreciation for the post-workout stretches as a lot of other gyms seem to skip out on that. If you’re questioning whether or not to check it out, I definitely say give it a try!
Great community and excellent coaching. Very clean environment. The staff has an emphasis on safe and effective training. The program helped me reach my fitness goals and I made a lot of friends along the way. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking to better themselves. Made for people of all fitness levels.

Being rather new to a gym can be intimidating however Workhorse Athletics made me feel comfortable right away. I appreciate the time and energy that the coaches put into making each member better. I highlt recommended checking this gym out, you wont be disappointed.
Ive never belonged to a gym before and was pretty anxious about joining one/finding one, but the trainers at workhorse are so helpful and the community at the gym is very positive. Im glad I found this place!
I went to Workhorse Athletics for 2 years, and to be honest, I only left because I moved. The owners and coaches are truly great people, and since the beginning, were very attentive to me and everybody else. If you are thinking about trying this place, dont think twice. The programming is also awesome and I improved some of the movements even after an injury.

Caring and competent staff that works hard to make everyone feel a part of the Workhorse family, and not just another customer. Every workout will get your pulse up, and all workouts provide hardcore and scaled down options until you get in hardcore shape.

Fun and supportive environment. The workouts are always challenging and are scalable based on fitness level (including for those who want more of a challenge!). The members and coaches are very inspiring, helping me to continuously push myself beyond what I thought my were my limits. Been a member for over a year and unfortunately will have to find a new box as I am moving away but will definitely be dropping in when I visit the area. Love the community feel here.
CrossFit West Springfield is unquestionably one of the best gyms I have been to. I consider myself an experienced CrossFit athlete (5+ years, I compete regularly) and I have been to many gyms over the years. CrossFit West Springfield stands out due to its professionalism and excellent coaching. No matter the size of the class or experience level of the athlete, everyone receives detailed and thoughtful coaching for their level. Coaches help scale and personalize every workout to the athletes on a daily basis. Additionally, the gym really listens to its members and is an excellent community for all ages, frequently holding community events, kids classes, weightlifting seminars, fun bingos and ab routines, etc. I highly recommend this gym if youre new to working out, experienced, dropping in, or looking for something long term!
I have been a member here for almost two years. Over that time, I have had the opportunity to work with almost every coach across daily workouts, skills clinics or one-on-one training sessions. The quality of instruction is incredible. I was a crossfit beginner when I arrived, scaling the workouts to my somewhat limited capabilities. Through guidance from the staff and other athletes, I progressed to working with the prescribed weights within a year. Owners Ryan and Tina have created a true community where openness and friendship abound. Their communication during the COVID crises kept all members up to date about plans and programs. They continued to provide daily workouts and coaching (virtually) during the entire shut down. I wish I could stay, but the AF has other plans for me. This community is the only thing I will miss about my time in DC!
Since joining Workhorse Athletics 2 years ago I have gotten to experience functional fitness at the highest level due to spectacular coaching, top notch facilities, and a community of inclusiveness full of positivity.
I had to look back to find out how long I’d been a member at this awesome gym, 5.5 years and wow time flies! This is the first gym I’ve ever joined and will hopefully be a member as long as I can. Before joining, I literally had never lifted a barbell, I didn’t even know what crossfit or olympic lifting was, and my understanding of exercise and nutrition was maybe going out for a jog a few times a month and more burrito bowls than I care to admit in public. The foundations class gave me confidence and a solid understanding of all the movements which are fine tuned every day during class by trained and certified coaches. Fast forward to now, this place has easily been the best part of my day every time I am able to go. I’ve gained skills and strength that I never would’ve thought possible (yes, gainz!). The gym is extremely well owned/managed and staffed with knowledgeable coaching staff, it is cleaner than my house most days, and truly is a community where you will meet and connect with other amazing people trying to be better every day. You have nothing to lose by signing up for a free trial, foundations class, or dropping in while you’re in the area…hope to see you around!
Ive been to quite a few crossfits however this is my favorite one. I just think the whole programs are really good. I feel great after my workouts. Friendly people work out here.
The coaches are excellent - very knowledgeable and very patient. The members are very welcoming and there is a great sense of community. I’ve enjoyed several fun community work outs such as 12 Days of Christmas and Cookie Exchange that have a great family-friendly atmosphere. My entire family works out here - my teenage daughter included.

An excellent box with a great community. The owners, Ryan and Tina, are welcoming, accommodating, and quick to respond to any questions about dropping in, getting a punch card, membership, or anything else Im sure. I completely recommend this to anyone who, like me, look for a good box to drop in when traveling or moving to a new area. I had the privilege to drop in for a couple weeks and after going to my first class, the coaches and athletes made me feel at home and challenged me to push hard during the workouts. This would be my box if home were in NoVA!

I have been coming to CrossFit West Springfield for a while. It was the change I needed in my life. After doing 20 marathons, 2 - JFK 50 Milers and a Half Iron all in my fiftys my mind and body needed that change.The staff/coaches has been more than above average. Each with their different personality they all have one purpose, and that is to show you, you are stronger than you think and to succeed with your goals.CrossFit West Springfield is Community focus. They outreach during the year and always a wonderful participation from the members.CrossFit West Springfield is family and friendly based. Owners are beginning their family and understand in the Washington DC area all the extras we have to juggle in the DC area. They have a wonderful Kids CrossFit and Qualified coaches. In my years with West Springfield I have seen when the Moms come in the morning and dads come in the afternoon. They tag team so both can have that healthy family. The friends I have met here, will be for a life time. Even though we are on different paths and different stages of our lives we push one another, cheer one another and congratulate one another and we sweat through this journey of life.CrossFit West Springfield is Fitness based in all areas. Nutrition assistance, personal training. The intentional programing from warm up to the work out provides challenging movements to succeed.The one thing I do like about CrossFit West Springfield is the word scaled being now in my 60s I am not able to do all the movements that my young 30 year friends can. Every coach carefully explains to me what the scaled version is so I still get a awesome work out and still push myself. If you have an injury, the coaches are there to recommend what mobility movement for that area of your body.Thank you CrossFit West Springfield for being there for me over the years and through all my seasons in life.Terri Romano

I’m new to CrossFit and CrossFit West Springfield is the closest gym to me and I couldn’t be more thankful. The staff and coaches are incredible and the community of people who workout there are the best. I started working-out there in January and immediately felt like part of the CFWS family. The facility is top notch, the On Ramp Course program was fantastic for someone who has never done any fitness program like CrossFit before and the overwhelming level of support for new athletes is incredible. I highly recommend CrossFit West Springfield for anyone in the NoVa/DC area who wants to be a part of an incredible community of support and get into shape.

I recently dropped in for a few days at this box when in town visiting family. It could not have a been a better experience. The set up and equipment there is top notch. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are great tunes playing at all times and dogs there, what more could you ask for? I highly recommend this gym to anyone in the DC area.
Ive been a member of three gyms in different states in the past six years, and CFWS is the BEST gym of them all. The programming is challenging, yet realistic, and the coaches are all on the same page (a rarity in many CF gyms). You can tell that each coach has his or her own style, but still respects and follows the overall plan set by the owners/head coach. CFWS welcomes athletes across the spectrum - whether youre just starting CrossFit or are looking to compete at a higher level.
Ive been searching for a workout place and fitness program for a while and found both and much, much more in Crossfit West Springfield! Ive never done Crossfit before and was most definitely intimidated at first. Starting with the in house Introduction to Crossfit course and through constant support and communication from coaches I fell in love with this place, the program, and the community. With the very knowledgeable Crossfit stuff I was able to dial in my nutrition and fitness and results followed within days-weeks. From a beginner to an elite athlete level CFWS offers full support, customized approach, and constant opportunity to challenge and improve yourself. With many additional options such as nutritional coaching, Crossfit kids, accessories program, etc CFWS has something for everyone. Year round fun events and competitions ensure that it is never boring and there is always something new to learn. I would definitely recommend everyone to drop in for a workout and hangout with some cool people to see what this place is all about for yourself.

The coaches and members create one of the best training facilities Ive found in Northern VA! Each coach gave me great pointers to improve my technique and encouragement to help me build my mental stamina.Other members, specifically Kayleigh and Matt, immediately became great team mates by constantly inviting me to try new movements with them. Resulting in me discovering my capabilities.Finally I am thankful to have such a diverse member group. It is my most loved characteristic of the CFWS community
Being a newbie to the world of CrossFit I was beyond impressed with the staff at CFWS as they are all very welcoming and knowledgeable in how a beginner should approach CrossFit. Im consistently impressed as each coach takes time to break down proper form, movement and stretching before every workout, scaling exercises and lifting appropriately -- based on each individuals ability. CFWS coaches and members are an incredible community--I only wish Id started sooner.
Ive really enjoyed becoming part of this Cross Fit West Springfield (CFWS) community!I cancelled my big gym membership where no one knew my name in November 2015 - in exchange for a spot where people take note of your absence, know you, and genuinely want to see you progress with your fitness goals. Coaches as well as other CFWS gym goers know you, observe you, and help to push and challenge you, within your own limits, more than you would ever do yourself. Its an incredibly supportive, clean, safe, fun place to get your sweat on!Ive been more of a yogi for 15 years with road biking and body pump classes for good measure... But I was kind of surprised at how the mindfulness and paying attention to alignment transfers over from yoga to Cross Fit. Its a nice complement - Ive noticed more strength in my yoga practice and Im sure the flexibility from yoga helps Cross Fit.Not gonna lie, when youre brand new, it can be an intimidating environment with the loud clanging of weights, bright lights, smells, and when its crowded figuring out where to even stand. But give it a whirl, youd be surprised how quickly you learn the ropes of how it all works and start to feel like a regular and have a new set of friends and gym buddies - who know your name!
I joined Crossfit West Springfield 6 weeks after having my second child. I Crossfitted in the past but took a few years off due to injury and having kids.I emailed the owner Ryan and immediately was welcomed into the family to try out the community and see if it was a great fit.Well it was an OUTSTANDING fit. All the members were introducing themselves along with the coaches my very first week. I felt part of the group almost immediately. The atmosphere really stresses form over weight (which I appreciated getting back into it). The coaches are fabulous. Everyone I experienced spent time with me one on one to focus on my flexibility and form.I would highly recommend this box if you are in the Springfield or Lorton areas!
