Had a one on one tour with the owner, Mary Collette. She was engaging and thorough. The venue has charm and various historical items and features of interests throughout.
My apologies not sure why it was given a 2 star initially totally my error. Fantastic venue beautiful. Mary was wonderful along with the staff. I apologize for the confusion, and recommend them highly!
As a local wedding photographer, I have had the opportunity to photograph several weddings at The Historic Firehouse. It is one of my favorite venues in the Springfield, MO area. The Firehouse is beautiful both inside & outside. There has been so much renovation done on Commercial Street and this venue is one of its many amazing spots.
Beautiful and big venue. Gorgeous outside area
We attended the open house. Building appears to be well maintained. Open house staff was friendly and warm towards are party. The tour was well detailed and gave us a good understanding of what the venue offers for weddings and parties. Second staff provided a good understanding of the finances and expectations of the venue.
My friends wedding was held here. It was super pretty and rustic. Perfect if thats what youre in to. Only thing was it was a little cold for a February wedding. But that didnt bother me
My daughters wedding was here in 2013. My co-worker recently selected this venue, which make me re-visit the experience.I laughed as I read through the reviews, as it looks like Mary is still up to her old tricks, the same as 6 years ago.The good- The place is beautiful. Décor and ambiance abound. The bridal area was large, private and comfortable. There were not enough mirrors at the time, Im sure theyve improved that by now.The outdoor wedding space was lovely, and the inside equally so. The catering space is quite ample.Mary is an odd duck. This has been mentioned in light sprinkles through out these reviews. Its not enough to keep me from recommending the place- it outweighs the behavior of Mary.We brought in our own caterer. Mary made herself a plate of food and ate it. Mary made her significant other a plate of food to take home. Mary did not ask. My husband addressed her and asked if shed been enjoying our caterers food. He then pointed out that at a $20 per person catering fee, we did not expect her to help herself to $40 worth of food.Mary acted like shed never heard of a per person catering charge before. Said she was sorry, but her food was already eaten, and her hubbys food was already plated, so we shouldnt waste it. She then had the gall to ask if her staff could eat after the guests were finished. We said NO. (We did invite them to eat later after dinner service ended-we were just appalled at her at that moment). The other odd thing Mary did was linger. Weeks later, after all the wedding photos were developed, my daughter pointed something out. Mary lurking in many, many photos. A disproportionate amount. And in very strange places- meaning in many of the family group photos.I didnt find Mary condescending as much as oddly disconnected-Kind of a universe loves me and Im oblivious to everyone elses needs. Like a self absorbed teenage girl, only concerned with how things affect her.In the end, the venue outweighs the squirrelly behavior of Mary.I guess some people might say we were stingy with our food, but after spending $3000+, I think Mary could buy her evening meal.
I had my wedding here and the place is beautiful and a great place for pictures inside and out! The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. I would recommend it to anyone! Thank you Mary and all the staff!
I really liked the pizza and the salad was fresh. I like thin crust pizza, and so tasty. The service was good and the sweet tea, was not to sweet. Good pizza and tea, got me.
My daughter and son-in-law found communication with the owner, Mary, to be a little chaotic, and getting payment to her was nerve-wracking. However, Amanda managed our event Amanda, Allison, and Drew helped me SO much to put on an amazingly lovely reception. They were a Godsend.
Wow...what happened to this place? Last year I attended 2 events here. The first one, a wedding was very nice. The venue seemed very professional and it was a very enjoyable time for everyone. In November, I attended another one and I noticed a general decline in the attention of the staff and the overall control and handling of things. I attended yet another wedding here this past Saturday night and it was a complete wreck. I am not sure if the ownership has changed or if maybe another company is running the place but there just seemed to be no control at all of anything! The staff was clueless and rude and obviously unable to handle things. There seemed to be no one in charge. Look around before signing here.
Nice facility. Inside and out
I have been to a few fantastic weddings at this venue. Its unique and clean!
Went to a wedding there. It is a very nice place
It served the Northside for many years..had a great bunch of firemen there..they were always ready to lend a helping hand..I live by it for 56 years
I would suggest you research other venues before choosing this one. It is a cool venue with Springfield history. But where other venues include a lot of things as you would expect, the Firehouse nickels & dimes you to death. You will pay extra for the bride and groom areas to get ready in, the balcony, tablecloths ($22 each..I bought off amazon half the price), etc. We rented the facility anyway, everyone seemed nice when they are trying to sell you on the place, but the wedding day was a different story, they were not friendly, and not helpful. The list of complaints is really too long for a review, but I will cover some highlights. We had the space rented for a specific amount of time, when some family/bridal party got there, the owner had people show up to tour the facility during our rental time when we were getting ready and setting up, then she asked if we could wait an hour to set up, we couldnt do that. It was 85 degrees, but when it was suggested we set the wedding up inside due to heat they basically said no it is better outside, so we did. So I wanted chairs inside and out for the guests so they could be inside until the wedding started to stay cool. The owner argued with me and said it is always set up outside and then guests grab their chairs and bring them in for the reception. First of all, it was too hot to sit out there while waiting, and there were more than enough chairs for both areas. After all, rental was supposed to cover all the chairs and tables. We were told we would have to take care of all the chairs and make sure they were all put up. Fine. The usage of the chairs clearly irritated her because she brought it up 2-3 more times during the reception of when and if we were picking them all up or if she needed to call in staff to take care of it. I told her I had it handled. The owner was also the bartender that night and was not friendly and quite rude to several family/guests, I had several come to me about it thinking the owner may want to know, they were surprised to find out she was the owner. She clearly did not want to be there. After the wedding a bunch of us put all the chairs up, cleared all the tables and boxed up all of our stuff, we saved her and the one guy there a ton of time by doing all the work. The man, I didnt get his name was very nice by the way. Afterwards, the owner had nothing to say, no thank you for all the work we did cleaning up in which she never once said oh we take care of that as part of the rental, not one thank you for your business, not even a bye. Cool venue, but I will NEVER recommend it, I seriously doubt many of the guests would either. Despite my irritation the wedding was beautiful, the venue has a lot of charm.
