Truthfully, I read the reviews and thought this would be a good company to avoid. But, as I searched for other internet providers for my new home in Fairfield, they all struck out. Several did not respond back to me. Some would not give much details on their service. One out right lied to me about their speed and service (we have a home office plus stream videos......said that was no problem. It was and their tech admitted it afterwards, but not until after I had signed a 2-year contract.) And one company actually did come out, but told me they didnt have signal at my house. Meanwhile, two different of my neighbors told me they were with Cougar Wireless. So I finally called. I got Janet. She is businesslike. If you want flirty, that aint her (and probably shouldnt be). She provided great service, was nice, got me lined out, was totally transparent. The tech (I forget his name) showed up on time and installed without problem and did not leave until I had tested the speed in several different ways and made sure it worked. He listened to my concerns and explained what he was doing and why. Great service again. And guess what? We now have great high speed internet and are enjoying it. No spinning, no error messages. It is working great. 5 Stars, no question. I only wish I had started my shopping here and ignored the poor reviews.

The internet service they provide has been top notch. Have not not had any interruptions and streaming has been without flaw. The lady I dealt with on the phone is very professional and informative and the installer was very helpful and clear in what needed to be done. I recommend this service.

I have had service with Cougar Wireless for several years now and they are great!!! Most of the technical issues we have ever had with the service are related to user error or we just need to power the router off and back on occasionally which lets face it. When you leave something on 24/7 sometimes you have to power it off. I get the sense that this is a smaller service because I always talk to the same people when I call. Janet is awesome and is always helpful if we do have something going on with the service. We live in the country and have dealt with satellite before and cougars slowest service was a huge improvement. We just upgraded our account from our old pricing and our speed improvement was remarkable even my dad noticed things loading faster. You dont know how much time youre wasting until you do. My only complaint is that they need to offer service up in Loon Lake so I can get it at my cabin up there too. I do not hesitate to recommend them to any of my friends who live in the rural areas they service Im sure happy they offer service where I live. Thanks Janet and the team over a Cougar! You guys rock!

There service was great the first month & half than the wifi signal dropped not able to stream to my tv paying 99.00 a month. I called in and the customer service was horrible i asked to speak with the manager and she said she was the manager. I will find a better service. Hope everyone reads the reviews before getting service through them.

Awful service, consistently don’t have service, it’s the only option so we are stuck. This company needs to upgrade their equipment and be responsive to customers who inform them of issues. Forget trying to watch Netflix, connect for class or work remotely. We constantly have to reset the internet, five times in the last seven days is a bit much. We don’t have the cheapest plan either. Husband left a message for tech support, we’ll see if they actually call back and if anything gets resolved...it usually doesn’t.

I called to inquire about my mothers account because she is blind and relies about the internet to the devices she uses to help her because of her disability, I have a seven year old that needs school work and cant complete because the manager of cougar is disconnecting my mothers service because she said we complain a lot and she is tired of it. This is so wrong we will have no choice but to go public with the local news agency to see if they can report this terrible situation due to a manager that is mad or upset that we have called with simple questions in the past. I feel sorry that any company can treat customers in this manner.

I used this service and when I have called in the past I was assisted by Janet, she is very rude and gets very hostile when you ask questions she does not like and this is terrible customer service. I think she needs anger management because her blood pressure must be elevated. She just needs to be more understanding because I will change to a different service provider because I wont subject myself to listen to hear nagging voice ever again. The service is not worth dealing with the staff at Cougar Wireless because it reminds me of Dial up internet I had back in 2003-2004 very slow and unreliable internet.

I live in a somewhat rural location and was having internet connectivity issues. I contacted CW via their website and just minutes later, Janet called me. She had already done some quick troubleshooting and articulated that the router had the issue. Ive been meaning to replace the old router anyway and brought home a new router and set it up. Still something was amiss and it was after hours. I called CW support and left a message. Minutes later, Janet called me up and walked me through the steps to set up the router correctly and perform some other troubleshooting. She was very patient and helpful, even with my old computer that was very slow when booting up. Within a few minutes we had internet again and all was well. Thank you, Janet!

I have been a customer for about 6 years, I have had enough of Janets rudeness and lies! Last year when I lost service she told me the radio on the outside of my house went bad and I needed to buy a new one for $200 and pay $70 for the service call, I asked her to prove to me it went bad, and she got PISSED! I told her I was a disabled vet and its Christmas and I dont have that kind of money. (BTW those radios almost NEVER go bad) She yelled at me over the phone then hung up on me. she then lied to her husband and told him I accused her of trying to take advantage of a vet and that I cussed at her. He called me on the phone and SCREAMED at me and said that if I didnt call Janet back and apologize to her he would blacklist me with all other providers and told me to enjoy my dial up! He then also hung up on me!!Janet is rude, disrespectful, and a flat out liar! Anything to make a buck off of any one. Oh, the service guy, (a nice guy) checked the whole system out then called Janet on the phone and asked her to turn back on my service, he did this with me listening. She had shut off my service and lied about the cause to make a buck and I caught her in the act! Half of the service calls, can be fixed by her turning your service back on from her computer, makes you wonder how it got turned off in the first place! If you have a choice of providers I would recommend some one else (Any One Else) if you dont have a choice, use your cell phone, its cheaper and faster and you dont have to deal with some narcissist on the other end of the phone. Their speeds are extremely inconsistent most often very slow and their prices are outrageously high!Janet you are a rude, disrespectful narcissist and a LIAR! you do not belong in a customer service position,To any one considering Cougar wireless or Hughes net...dont question company policy or piss her off you will regret it, she will get even with you

I have been a customer since they came to the Spangle area. We have had our ups and downs with service, wind trees ice ect., the one thing I have learned and what keeps me with Cougar wireless..the people. They always call me back when I call, they are always helpful, willing to walk me through what ever questions I have, and I have never had a rude moment with any of them, because I am pretty sure its a give as you get. I have seen and read every post on here and I know how have all of them work, and how impatient customers can be, so I will say this, janet and all your crew, keep up the good work.

Recently had equipment installed and the technician was awesome! That being said the lady on the phone was the rudest person I have ever talked with. The service is good, but the equipment they install is USED. They also require you to get a 3500 Joule surge protector or you have to sign a contract that you will owe them a brand new set of equipment (unlike the used equipment they installed). My guess is they refuse to properly install a Ubiquiti ETH-SP and want to upsell you a $40+ surge protector. Also be prepared to sign a lot of legal contracts when you get your services. In my opinion its easier to buy a car than get services installed.

Inconsistent speeds, outrageous pricing and Janet is rude to anyone who questions the company policy. We called during the wind storm outage last year just to inquire about when we might have Internet back and we were yelled at and hung up on. This year we called because we lost service and we were informed rather rudely that there was ice on the tower and how dare we expect a tech to go up there in the dark to fix it (something we never expected). A simple inquiry with Janet leads to being yelled at, hung up on or a threat to shut off your service, no matter how polite you are.Its unfortunate that they are the only provider in our area. It is shameful what people will do to others when they have the chance to gouge them.

I have been a Cougar Wireless customer for 4 years, and Ive finally had it with slow internet, poor service, and Janets rudeness. Recently my service was out again. When they sent tech support to my house the next afternoon ($75, whether its their fault or not) the technician told my wife that their radio receiver on the outside of my house had fried and that it was the fault of the wiring running from it to their box on the inside of my house. I was unavailable and not in cell service, so my wife talked to Janet and told her that she was unwilling to pay $250 to replace their radio. Janet told her that youre going to have to pay for it whether we fix it now or not, because your husband insisted on using the existing wiring when we installed it, which we didnt want to do, and he signed a waiver in the contract saying that Cougar Wireless wouldnt be responsible for any failures because of that. That was a lie. I initialed a sentence that stated that I requested the installer to use existing wiring, but it said nothing else. If the equipment that is required for a company to provide the service I am paying for fails, they can fix it or else cancel the service. I called Janet the next morning and explained to her that its not my job to warranty their electrical equipment and she insisted that I was responsible for their equipment regardless of how it failed. She was very combative and seemed to rather enjoy arguing with me, to the point of challenging me to cancel their pathetic service, which I have done. Apparently their business plan is to get the customers to pay for their equipment when it fails. I have had two other wireless technicians out here since then, and they have both told me that blaming the radio failure on the cat 5 wiring is absurd. I guess Im lucky that Janet didnt try to get me to pay for their equipment failures a month ago when they had problems on their tower. If you are looking for internet service, LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE.Update: It turns out that Janet filed this charge on a credit card that I had told her to remove from her system months ago and was not the credit card I currently had on file with Cougar Wireless. Why did she still have my credit card information? I disputed this charge with my credit card company and while the charge was still under dispute, Janet emailed me and threatened to send it to a collection agency if I did not pay it (again) within 4 days. This is in violation of VISA policy. If you would like to pay for a service company to replace their equipment when it fails, or if you like to be threatened, then Cougar Wireless is your provider.I think anyone who reads the majority of the reviews on this company, as well as Janets combative responses will get a taste of what its like to be one of their unfortunate customers. And no, Janet, I am not upset that I didnt purchase your equipment protection plan. Why would I want to pay a monthly fee to protect YOUR equipment? How do you convince anyone to do that? Given the choice again, I would decline it again. The only thing I would do different is decline Cougar Wireless entirely.Update:I hope the readers take note of how the owner of Cougar Wireless Doxd me by posting my personal information on his reply. It turns out that despite posting the letter from my bank denying my appeal to this charge, upon further review, the bank agreed with me and ruled in my favor. I found this out after Cougar Wireless sent a debt collector after me. Despite the owners yammering about me not purchasing his equipment protection plan, his contract also states COUGAR WIRELESS will repair any COUGAR WIRELESS owned equipment at no additional fee if it is determined the repair needed is due to a COUGAR WIRELESS equipment problem or any problem by its affiliates. BE ADVISED, READER, that if his equipment fails, he will pin it on you, and not only Dox you, but send a collection agency after you. Two other wireless providers told me that Cougar blaming me (my wiring) for their equipment failure was absurd.

Many times, I get voicemail when I call and usually its due to the internet being down.Al told me I needed to buy a new router, which I did. Janet told me I needed a new computer and that I could get a core i7 for $400 on sale. I looked all over, even during Christmas sales the best was $700.Internet is consistently down. New computer, new router, what next? When there is an outage they do not notify the customer so we are left wondering if its our problem or the ISP (since they always default to it being the customers problem). Once we determine the problem is with the provider, they dont communicate the estimated outage, even an ETA within a couple hours would be better than nothing.Isnt there a guaranteed uptime or you get a prorated refund? Dont they have infrastructure monitoring software? Why do I have to inform them when their infrastructure has a problem?I am one of many who works from home and it is problematic when you cannot rely on Internet service to meet deadlines or attend web conferences.Perhaps Cougar Wireless would reinvest some of their profits into infrastructure monitoring or upgrades? Easily configured to notify when theres an outage (red), or even a problem (yellow). I moved entire networks across the country to a colo in North Carolina. The software is not expensive and easy to get up and running - for troubleshooting, the sake of your business and the customer.

Update 8/26/2020. They have gotten way more reliable over the years with issues only once every maybe 6 months which is great! I switched to the most expensive plan ($200/month) for 12 Mbps sustained download which I consider a ridiculous price for this speed of internet, but during coronavirus I will keep paying it. Raising start rating one level for reliability.Multiple updatesUpdate 11/8/2015 speedtest.net ping 229, DL 1.73Mbps, UL 0.11Mbps was bad for maybe 2 weeks before doing anything. Emailed tech support and they did something and fixed it. Adding one star my overall rating because they handled it on the weekend with an email so thats pretty great.Update 11/10/15 service outage. Called them. They are working on it. Not reducing rating back to 1 star because sometimes things break and outages are not the issue. Back on in ~ half hour.Update 11/24/15 Service slow. Speedtest.net DL1.1Mbps, UP 0.47Mbps. Ping is acting strange because I can test it once and its 50ms and the next test 350ms. Called and email them and they called back 40 minutes later, but I had gone to bed.Update 11/25/15 Speedtest.net DL 1.6Mbps, UL 1.2 and its been 24 hours. Lowering to one star.Update 12/22/15 7pm Speedtest.net did two tests First test: ping 259ms DL 2.81Mbps, UL 2.9. Second test: ping 234ms, DL 1.30Mbps, UL 1.45 Mbps.Update 10/30/16 Did two tests.First: Ping 306ms, 3.59Mbps DL, 0.33 Mbps upload.Second: Ping 251ms 0.33Mbps DL, 0.45 Mbps upload.Been bad like this a long long time. This is dial-up badUpdate 12/7/2016Upgrading to 2 stars. No major network failures or slow downs in a while. Watched an Amazon video without a problem.Update 1/22/2017Reducing back to 1 star. Random complete service outage. Came back on by itself.Seem fine for a while then same day in the afternoon ran a google speed test 0.15 Mbps download, 0.17 Mbps upload, ping 368.Update 6/3/2017Its been bad for a long time and not just during the hours people are awake anymore. Its bad all the time.Update 7/?/17At 5am here are some test results:Google speed test gives 1.44 down, 0.19 up ping of 485 to Seattle.I ran 3 tests to speedtest.net and 2 failed because of a download error and the other was 2.5 down, 0.15 up to Spokane servers.Update 8/17/17Service had been bad for a while (weeks). Had really bad service one night and called and then had two techs out the next day. Techs were nice and professional. Results of service call:Since they came out during normal work hours and not when service is bad (bad 5pm-11pm on workdays and all weekend long), they didnt find anything wrong. They checked my network there was nothing wrong with my internal network and their network looked fine (because of the time of the call) .The indicated there might be some trees that are reducing my signal quality, but also agreed if occlusion was the problem, we would see it all the time not just during nights and weekends. No progress. They didnt charge me for the service call because they didnt find anything wrong with my network which is pretty cool. The struggle continues... Oh also tried a Verizon mifi at home and its faster with better latency so working on that instead.12/17/2017It has been really really bad for a full two weeks. I have made sever calls and they are unable to improve it.Google speedtest: 0.75 Mbps Download, 0.11 Mbps upload, ping 344.Its so bad.5.20.20181.4 mbps from Epicgames.com8.21.1018Its out. Mid Netflix. Waited a while but gave up and went to bed. Got a call back fast to my 9pm call which is pretty good on them.11/14/2018Its been pretty solid for a while so I added a star when I added this data. Dont know why its slow today. 0.14mbps download 2.2mbps upload.
