We are so grateful for Jennifer. She is truly an amazing person and hair stylist. We followed her to her new location even though it is a farther drive but its completely worth it! She is extremely attentive and compassionate. My son has Adhd and is on the autism spectrum and she is one of very few that can cut his hair. She gets on his level and makes it her main purpose to make sure he has a great experience!!My 3 year old saw Julia and she was very patient with him and made sure he loved his mo hawk

I made an appointment and the guy checked me in. Asked if I wanted a beer and so I embibed. The lady barber was late to get to me but made a mention of it and I appreciated that. I liked how she took care of my hair and I got a wash and a style. She used a straight razor to line me up and thats a nice barber touch. A short head massage and I was done. It was kind of pricey but I felt like it was worth it. I felt really good after so that made it so.

Sarah is an excellent barber. She takes her time, she listens with intent and delivers 100% while being completely present with you.Sarah is also amazing with kids. She took time out of her schedule to cut my daughters hair after my son and I got a cut simply out of sheer thoughtfulness.

My cut was passable. Every other aspect of my visit was mediocre at best. The barber acted like she hated her job, didnt seem interested in hearing about the look I wanted, and rushed through the process. I was out the door in 14mins. Just go to Great Clips. Youll get 3 haircuts and the same quality of service.

I have been going to BDBC for about 5 years. Have had cuts that I wasnt happy with but werent real bad. Went there Saturday the 26th and received the worst haircut of my life. I wear my parted left to right but like it short and textured. When jennifer Tyndall turned me around my hair was cut to about 3/8 of an inch, no part. To make it even worse a bad haircut wasnt even. Had to cut it down to about 1/4 inch just to even it out. Sorry,vBDBC,you have lost a customer, or should I say another customer.

I had a last minute booking because the other barber at the other place I had was exposed to covid and was being safe. Cool ascetic inside, cool decor... She didnt look at the picture. The picture showed my hair double the length she cut it to. She didnt listen to what I told her to do on my beard, cut it extremely short. She didnt even cut it evenly. One side of my beard hair starts at the top of my ear, the other side at the bottom of my ear. Ive had cuts from barbers with dry and bad equipment before, I dont move at all. This was the worst cut Ive ever had. I normally cut my beard myself because not many barbers in spartanburg can cut correctly but I cant even manage this at all. She kept stabbing my ear with the guard on her clippers, there was somebodys kid running all around. Did not feel comfortable or confident getting my haircut. I think theres maybe two people there who can cut hair well. Just a terrible experience. I cant even fix it because its too short to even even it to. Had to cancel pictures that we had scheduled for over 6 months and now have to wait another 6 months before I can even get it cut again so it can be at the right length.

Yesterday was my first time visiting The Black Derby Barber Co. and it was great! Just be sure to make your appointment online prior to showing up (its actually really easy to do). When I walked in, I was greeted, checked in, and then asked if I would like something to drink. They had multiple different types of liquor to choose from as well as Yuengling served in a goblet, bottles of coke, and coffee. Once I was called back, Barbara was extremely friendly & helpful! I love my haircut! Now I just need to figure out how to shape my beard as well as she did. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!

I have been going to The Black Derby for my hair cut for two years now and I highly recommend them. Starr has been my barber for most of the time and she is fantastic. She always knows just what I want, and if I change it up, she gets what I’m asking for. She has done fantastic work on my hair, beard, and has even evened out my eyebrows once or twice. The owner Mary is as nice as she can be, always has an open door and a moment to chat. Their new location on Main Street is nicely furnished and the products they use are great. Again, I can’t speak enough praises for TBD. As long as I live in the area, I’ll be a return customer.Cheers!

I have been coming to black derby barber for several months. Last Tuesday when I walked in I found out my normal barber had left. So I scheduled another appointment for today with Star. I was hesitant at first because it wasn’t my normal barber. Star did a amazing job on my beard. I asked questions on conditioners and beard oils and she was very knowledgeable about the products. If I could give a 10 star review I would. I have already scheduled my next appointment with Star! I highly recommend Black Derby Barber.

Horrible haircut - didn’t listen to my preferences and it looks awful. And they also weren’t wearing masks properly and coughing and joking about having been sick recently. This place is NOT safe during the pandemic. And it’s also not worth the money at all.

Awesome place! Awesome staff! Starr cut my hair and did a great job. I couldnt have been happier. Shes very nice and we talked throughout the entire haircut and she frequently asked me if I liked how it was coming along. I like that kind of atmosphere, with engaging employees, rather then the Hi, how are you? And no conversation during the haircut. This is my new go-to place!!

Amanda Harley did a great job cutting my hair! She was friendly and talkative, yet not obnoxious which I find is sometimes a rarity when getting a haircut! It’s a super environment and complementary drink was great. Best walk-in hair cut experience I’ve had.

Not sure what happened to all the barbers but many of my favorites have left forcing me to go to Greenville to get a good cut. I am not sure if it’s the owner or what. It’s not your classical barbershop were the owner cuts and runs the shop that way. It seems to me and I could be wrong that it’s just a space hiring random barbers under the name and isn’t a homegrown classic men’s barbershop like they have 30 minutes away. This used to be a four star plus place now it’s a one.

Star was very rude, mean and yelled because I said the hair cut did not look the way it was suppose to nor the way it looked last time she cut it. I stated that I did not like the way it looked and asked if she could cut the hair off from the top and start fresh for next time and she said NO! That she would not do that. She stated just dont pay for the cut and to find a new babrber for my son. I told her that I am going to pay but if she could just please cut the hair off from the top because I honestly do no like the way it turned out and she said No! And stormed off into an other room and slamd the door behind her.

Where do I start? I have been searching for a regular place to get my hair cut for years. I found it. Great decor, the offering of a beverage before the cut was something I wasnt expecting. It was my first time here so Im hooked. My barber, Cassie, did exactly what I had asked her to do and I say that because it doesnt happen much anywhere else for me anyway. I will return for my next cut and I wont wait because I dread going. I dont know whos idea this was but a dang good idea it was. Keep up the good work.

Ive enjoyed my past few visits here. Its actually a relaxing experience to come in, have a drink, and have someone that really knows what theyre doing take care of you. It may be pricey, but its well worth it.

Best place in Spartanburg to get your hair cut. Part saloon, grooming store and part barber. Absolutely unique place. Get a drink while you wait or shop for everything from amazing candles, socks to shave brushes and beard stuff.Justin knocked it out the park for doing my hair for the first time. No one ever does a good job at first with my crazy hair. It is a bit more than I’m used to paying but well worth it and it support a local downtown business. Ive had my beard for a round eight years and this has to be the best beard trim Ive had. They make sure that you are pleased with your cut before you ever leave so no one should leave with an issue.

1st time and I absolutely loved it. Took my 1yr old and he got his cut by Cassie and mine by Justin and I can’t be more pleased. 5 Stars !!!

Overall, I did enjoy my visit. It is by far the most expensive haircut Ive ever gotten though. Justin was a great barber who seemed to take his time and focus on the details. The atmosphere inside is really nice, and complimentary drink (from water and soda to Yuengling and whisky) was a nice touch as well. The advertised back and neck massage that comes with the haircut was a little disappointing though. Its really more like a 30 second rub with a vibrating machine on your neck and shoulders. When I saw the cost of the hair cut included this service, my thought was that it is more expensive to cover a decent massage, but that wasnt really the case. I would love to come back, but I dont know if I can afford it every time I need a cut. Great business though, and glad to see places like this pop up in our town!
