Joined about a month ago and have been loving it. The community is super welcoming and the coaching is top notch. Lots of class offerings throughout the day, including a very early morning one (5:30!) for those of us who want to exercise before early starts at work. This is the only crossfit gym Ive been to but I wouldnt want to go anywhere else.
If you are looking for a fun social distant group fitness class, I highly recommend checking out Crossfit Commonwealth. Commonwealth has done a fantastic job ensuring their athletes feel safe and comfortable while having fun & getting in a great workout!Classes are currently defaulting to outside, and adhere to all MA Covid requirements. Equipment is diligently cleaned between classes, and coaches wear masks in an effort to keep both them & their athletes safe.Programming is written keeping in mind class size (cap is currently 10) to ensure each athlete has their own equipment and doesnt need to share.
You go to Starmarket and ask 24 pounds of beef. See how much meat the butcher is bringing. That is how much I reduced from my body during last 6 weeks through the program here.I have served as a soldier 10 years ago, and their program is indeed remind me training program I did in the military, which is much more funner way. Cheerful, helpful and encourage do the exercise more that you think you can do. Brian and Abby who are coaches in there vastly helpful to get my posture right and do more efficient work out.I highly recommend this place if you want to reduce your weight, more importantly, if you want turn your lifestyle to healthier style.
Ive been going here for like 7 years! I feel like they really care about having a great community of people who care. During the shutdown, they lent out all their equipment to members, which I really appreciated. I feel like I was coached to scale appropriately but also pushed to improve. Before coming here I never would have thought that I would be able to do pull-ups. I have never been injured doing CrossFit but have been able to do it through multiple injuries (that I got from playing ultimate frisbee smh). Love this place.
What a great gym! The coaching was very thorough, people were welcoming, it had nice equipment, the gym was clean, and the drop-in fee was super reasonable. I was there for a week and already felt like I was part of the community! If/when I am back in Boston, I will definitely be returning to Commonwealth.
Commonwealth CrossFit has been an amazing experience. From day 1, I’ve felt welcomed by the entire community, from coaches to staff to other members. I could not recommend this place more to anyone who is seeking to take their fitness to the next level. 5 stars, 5 thumbs up! Thanks, Brian!
They were very good about teaching form and making sure we did exercises safe. I did the 6 week challenge and was surprised that i was able to lose 25lbs. One key thing that was helpful was their emphasis not just on workouts but diet, which it turns out was a key component Ive been missing. I definitely appreciate the personal touch
Great coaches and members.
I have done CrossFit at other locations, I would say this box was one of the best. Great community and instruction. James was an excellent coach and support to us in the six-week challenge. Coaches always made sure to take time teaching form.
Such an awesome place. Ive gotten in much better shape and made some great friends thanks to this place!
Super dirty. No structured warm up or cool down. Most people didnt say hi. Cant say Id go back.
Love this gym! The community is so supportive and positive, and workouts kick butt! All the coaches are really good at scaling the workouts, and really focus on safe movements. Just overall great energy!
Got to know CWCF by the 6 week challenge. Coaches are amazing and the community super supportive. Really enjoy the classes and the people. During the 6 week challenge I was able to lose weight and body fat, and gain muscle. Super happy with the results!
A great gym for both new the new and initiated CrossFitter! classes are large enough to establish community but small enough to receive some individual coaching. coaches are fun, knowledgeable, and patient, and have your best interest in mind. diverse group of people, welcoming and fun!large space to accommodate various workouts. easily accessible by public transportation or driving (parking available). morning, afternoon, and evening classes; specialty classes and general workouts. membership costs are comparable if not slightly cheaper than surrounding CrossFit gyms.
Had a great experience trying out CrossFit for the first time at this gym! Welcoming community with attentive coaches. Great workouts each day. Highly recommend!
Dont be intimidated by the workouts! The coaches will help scale them to a level that you are comfortable with and capable of. All the coaches are friendly and helpful. They will encourage you to work hard, but also safely, and at a level that is appropriate to your fitness.
I recently completed my first 6-Week Challenge through Commonwealth CrossFit, and can say wholeheartedly that I had an awesome experience – not only did I learn the foundational skills to safely lift heavier weight while significantly increasing my overall fitness level, but I also found a supportive and fun fitness community in my neighborhood that gets me genuinely excited about working out.Brian, the owner of Commonwealth, was very helpful to me in explaining up front what to expect as a participant in the Challenge, in addition to taking me through some of the basic elements of CrossFit over the phone (I had never stepped foot in a Box prior to signing up at Commonwealth).James and Nicole, in addition to all of the other coaches I met during the Challenge, were amazing to work with throughout my first 2 weeks of On-Ramp classes and beyond, always going out of their way to review form with me, demonstrate new movements, or help me complete even the most challenging WODs.I’m excited to now be a member of the Commonwealth community, and look forward to continuing to master the fundamentals of CrossFit. If you had asked me six weeks ago whether I’d ever be able to do a handstand push up, I would have told you absolutely not – now, even though I have a lot of training to do before I get there, I’d tell you that guidance from top-notch coaches, a supportive workout community, and hard work can move anything into the realm of possibility.
A great community of people, large open space with lots of equipment. The coaches and staff are also extremely accommodating with injuries, new members, existing members, and are always looking for ways to improve the space, experience, and community for its members. Also a great location (10 min from Porter red line T stop, and many bus lines that right outside that take you to Lechmere/Davis Square (87) and Central Square (83))
Commonwealth CrossFit is great! CrossFit in general is intimidating but the 6 Week Challenge is a great intro. Coaches are focused on teaching the right techniques and moves and are extremely helpful with workout or diet related questions.
Fantastic gym with a wide variety of classes and friendly, experienced coaches. One of the biggest draws for me is that there are members of all different ability levels, so you never feel out of place, but theres always someone better than you that you can aim for.
Commonwealth CrossFit is a great, welcoming gym with a supportive community of both members and coaches. I was lucky enough to discover it through a 6 week program, and I loved the encouragement and engagement of not only the owner Brian but everyone you meet there! I was intimidated at first by the whole idea of heavy weight-lifting-centric workouts, but its not the sole focus --I did quite a few sprints :) -- and they do a great job teaching/ensuring proper form. I certainly recommend this gym to anyone looking to join an active community!
A great gym and a great place to work out. The community is friendly and relaxed and the coaches are fantastic, taking the time to point out tweaks to technique. I learned a ton in my year here, mastering hand stand pushups, hand stand walks, and I had only had a year of cross fit prior to that.
I couldnt be more happy with my experience at Commonwealth Crossfit! I signed up as part of their Fitness Challenge, and after just a short 6 weeks time I had lost over 26lbs and just under 4% Body fat! Results obviously vary, but I guarantee if you put in the time & effort here you WILL see some serious results. The entire training staff is unbelievable, and the atmosphere is that of pure positivity & motivational support. If youre looking make your health and fitness a priority, I couldnt recommend anywhere more highly!
Commonwealth CrossFit prioritizes community and personal fitness. I love that the coaches care about what my goals are (not what they think they should be). Classes frequently have more women than men, athletes of all ages and ability levels, and always a fun attitude. CWCF is a great habit and staple in my life (member for 5 years)
Just completed the 6-Week Challenge with Commonwealth as my intro to CrossFit. Getting on-board is turning out to be one of the best decisions Ive made for myself in years - helped get me back in the gym, into cooking meals and eating healthier, AND with measurable results (lost over 20 lbs and 6% BF)!As a fitness community, CWCF seems to provide a good balance of structure to adaptability, accountability to autonomy, with an eclectic group of coaches, each of whom bring their unique personality, expertise and style to the group class model. CWCF seems like a welcoming environment for the whole range of body types and abilities.
Great space and community. Coaches are down to earth and dedicated to making all walks of life healthier.
Great box----super positive energy, and top trainers. Dropped by when in town, and was not only accommodated, had a wonderful workout! Great community, if I lived here, this would be my new home box!
Brian is excellent as a trainer, if you have the time I really suggest joining in on the veteran classes for better technique.
Great environment. Great coaches. Best fitness program
Still a great Crossfit Box (or Gym) with an amazing community of coaches and particpants who really make it fun to workout. Came back in for a 6 week challenge, lost 17 pounds and 5% body fat. Check it out for sure!
I was a member of CWCF for a couple of years before I had to move away. I loved the coachs passion for the work. They cared about your form, your well being and your goals. They introduced me to crossfit and created in me a life-long love for it. I wish I could still workout at this box everyday! It is a great community as well. People are very supportive of one another, and I made friends that I keep in touch with today several years after leaving.
A variety of classes, nice and competent coaches, and lots of strong women!
Ive experienced different Crossfit gyms and this place (Commonwealth) is amazing. Just this morning Brian explained how to do the double-under jumprope technique in a way no one ever did before. He took me through step-by-step to help me understand. Brian and all the coaches I have experienced there are phenomenal. What I also love about this Crossfit gym are the people. Everyone is very friendly. There is a strong community here.
This is a really great gym, coaches and athletes!
SIgned up for their 6-week challenge, in mid-August and lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks. Here are some highlights from my experience.Location and equipment: Located on Sommerville ave, 13-minute walk from Porter Square. The gym has a lot of space for movements, and I feel is set up really efficiently to get the best out of the space. Has enough cycling and rowing equipment for cardio. Plenty of barbells and weights for all levels.Classes: There are classes are 1 hour long and start from 5:30 AM, through 6:30 PM most days. The maximum class size is 16 people, but you will mostly find between 8-12 people in the class.Workouts: The workouts are divided between strength/skill and a high-intensity workout at the end. All movements are scalable according to skill, (really helpful for me, who had never done CrossFit and did not know any of the movements). The workouts are generally really fun and I really like the focus on the entire body, and not on any single muscles.Coaches: Shoutout to all the coaches for being Awesome!. All the coaches are really friendly and know their stuff. If they see you struggling (which was more often than not for me), they will come over and have some great tips to make your form better or scale down the movements.Community: The people are really friendly and helpful. They have people of all skill levels, which is really helpful. And have plenty of events like the potluck, group hikes, and Outings. They also help you with nutrition and have great diet plans that have really helped me.All in all, its a great gym for anyone who is new to crossfit or been doing it for 20 years. Definitely worth giving it a shot
Fantastic CrossFit Box, really great coaches, people and programming. Swing by if you want to find out what CrossFit is all about!
Ive been working out at CWCF for about 6 months, and I really love it. Great community of people, great workouts, and a great space.
Great coaches, small classes, and friendly community.
