One of the best locations for rock climbing, bouldering in the area. Staff is really nice and helpful. I got a student discount.Weekends are usually busy but lot of high skill folks train here.
Spacious gym with everything needed for climbing (bouldering, autobelay, top rope, lead, and training equipment). Staff and community are nice and seem to cover the range of skill levels. My main critiques, one major and one minor...Major: for a gym this big, problems and routes are too sparsely set. The space has so much potential, but theyre not fully utilizing it. They could probably increase things by 20-25%Minor: I prefer some texture to the wall and they have smooth wood. I think this is better than the true sandpaper walls, but it feels like this is an overcorrection to another extreme. So would recommend with some caveats.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE!! From the min you walk in good vibes, the staff is very helpful and respectful. 🙂There is no kinda judgment from other climbers and all are very chill!! Natural and intelligent environment. ROCK ON!! 🤙🙂🤙
I cancelled my $105/mo membership in early May. Since then they’ve been charging me $135 (?!) every month - June, July, August, September, and October. I have emailed them countless times, disputed with my bank, changed my card number, and somehow the charges still keep coming. Warning to anyone considering a membership.
Friendly staff, excellent facility. Clear route setting schedules always posted. Also great spaces to take a seat and relax before or after climbing.
Best climbing gym ever! Nice community and the climbing routes are changed periodically. It’s the climber’s ultimate dream gym!
Great climbing gym! They reset often, the staff is generally very friendly, holds are new, place is clean, etc.Only downside for me is that there arent many interesting features to the walls. Note the walls are not textured like most climbing gyms.
Ive had middling experiences with Brooklyn boulders locations in the past, but this particular spot is top notch. There isnt another gym in the state I wouldnt favourably compare it to.Its only flaw is a lack of parking. If youre able, ride your bike there.
People were very friendly, and it was fun! Didnt climb the walls with ropes, just the bouldering. 🧗🏿♀️
Extremely nice staff and great fun climbing routes! Too expensive though
This place is awesome. Super helpful staff.
A bit chaotic in the evenings but a fun time none the less. Prepare to be super sore
First time going today, lots of fun and good quality shoes, appreciate the chalk dispensers spread around so that first time customers don’t need to buy extra!
This place is overly crowded and extremely expensive. Don’t listen to the staff here there dirtbags and 99% haven’t had real climbing experience outdoors. Stay away from this gym for the price you can condition yourself cheaper elsewhere with a better climbing community.
Massive selection of walls with a variety of difficulty for everyone, beginners to experts..plus a full gym as well. We love it here. Being next to Aeronaut brewery is a bonus for post-climb brews. 100% recommend. Make sure to fill out the forms online before you show up to get on the wall faster!
Its a cool place
Awesome place to climb!
The best place ever, I had my 1st time experience climbing a rock wall, and let me tell you that is not easy whatsoever... OMG what a workout.I did the yellow wall 1st witch is Beginners, as you can see all the Yellowstones... OMG my body hurts in this was 2 days ago...Love it going to go back again... thanks BKBS for letting me in to try it out.
Excellent large space with professional staff
Super helpful and friendly staff. Great routes.
I came to BKB with a friend who is a member and he had an extra day pass for me. Checking in as a guest was super easy - just filled out a form with basic info and then got a tour of the facility by a staff member. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly.I wanted to try to auto-belay system and within minutes a staff member was working with me to show me how to use it and gave me a test right there so I could be OKd to use it. I didnt get belay certified, but I think it works the same way.All top ropes have gri gris attached to them so you can just walk up and clip right in to start belaying.Overall, really nice facility. Lots of climbing space, big pads under bouldering sections, cardio equipment and weight room. Theres even several quite space rooms where you can work on your computer/read. I wish I lived closer so I could go to this place more regularly!
We came here for the Parkour Generations parkour class for younger kids and we absolutely love it. The space is amazing. The front desk staff are very good at what they have to do, they checked us in made us sign waivers and answered questions politely. We witnessed adults rock climbing and they all look like superstars! My children want to try out rock climbing next, I just have to get the courage to let them. We saw some children’s rock climbing and the staff working with them were very attentive to the children and safety.
I have very mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, I have met some really great people here. On the other, I feel I need to warn people. This place have no shame when it comes to trying to trick their customers and charging them for things they have not consented to. I would not recommend leaving this place your credit card information. I did let them now that I wanted to stop my membership and that they had no right to renew the monthly payments nontheless. Watch out!
Too busy. If you want to come here in the evenings, you likely won’t get to climb much. I’m not even sure that it’s legal per fire code for them to have such kinds of crowds. They charge more than any gym in New England and the experience is sub par. Crowded, noisy, dirty, and there’s never any parking. Worst gym hands down.
Went here some time ago. Absolutely beautiful gym. Friendly staff. Areas for all skill levels. Whenever I come back into the area I take my daughter here to climb. Great time
Used to be a member here, and would come on a regular basis before they raised their prices. Their location is pretty good and the gym itself is nice, but monthly membership costs are way high when compared to other locations in the area (as you subsidize all the non-climbing stuff that goes on). More importantly for me, day pass costs are absurd. Its something like $46 a person for my friends whenever they want to climb - at that rate its much cheaper for us to grab an uber and go to any of the other (and more climbing-focused) locations in the area.
Great all around gym if youre looking for options besides climbing, like yoga, parkour, weights, treadmills, and a few others. Staff is pretty courteous as well. The place is BIG, so you have a variety of route options and difficulty levels. The only real barrier for me to a 5-star rating is the price - a single visit can be pricey, especially if youre renting any equipment, so Id recommend membership or bust.
Best. Place. Ever. ❤️Offers great selection of rock climbing walls, well designed co-working space and leisure areas, all necessary gym equipment, sauna and engaging classes. Great overall set-up, exceptionally welcoming staff, dog & family friendly space.
This place is nice. Great place to work and or just hang out.
A fantastic place to learn to climb or to challenge yourself. The variety of routes is incredible, from plenty easy ones with auto-belay to a whole bunch of challenging climbs. They change frequently so its hard to get bored. There are also great camps for kids that are a fun way to introduce them to climbing.
Dont trust these guys with your credit card. I cancelled my membership almost a year ago. I kept it in a suspended state for 2 months, then cancelled completely in person. They recently started billing me again no consent or notification at all, and at least on my first contact with them have claimed they cant offer me a refund, as if I had actually purchased anything. Will update if this gets resolved.
The only thing I wish they had is a discounted day pass for kids.
I do not live in Boston, so I visited as a solo boulderer just to climb for the day. I thought the day pass was really expensive for the climbing I was able to access alone ($36!). The bouldering was not densely set so I felt like I ran out of set problems to try quickly. The kilter board was great to try out. Overall, I wouldnt visit again due to price if i was alone...Id consider it if I had a rope partner to climb with.
Great atmosphere. High walls for top rope.
Very sizable space and great that they have classes here as part of MindBody. Prices have become a bit steep and is super packed in the evenings. LED lighting upgrades have been a downgrade as its pretty dark when the sun isnt shining overhead.
Helpful staff, quick orientation for new people, $10 gear rental (harness and shoes).Ultimately, every human is for themselves - it’s a bit of a free-for-all once you’re inside. You need to be smart about your own limits and challenges.I would strongly urge / not encourage you to go Bouldering if you’ve never climbed before. Don’t be a hero. I broke my leg this way here this weekend. I will be miserable for 8+ weeks. That’s not worth 1-2 hours of the fun I did have before I fell from 10 ft in the air. This is why you sign all the waivers on your way in.The staff is well-trained in safety protocols and will get you emergency services ASAP god forbid you should need it.You can have an AWESOME time. Just stick to autobelays or take some lessons. Don’t be stupid. Know your limits. Stop before you think you’re done so you can come back and have more fun.
Dan and his team of expert climbers are not only professional, but also funny, caring, and kind. I will definitely be back to monkey around some more! I loved the art. The space is really awe-inspiring. Great place to hang out, make friends, and burn some calories
Its great. Lots of moderate and technical routes. Really good work out areas that have decent equipment. Its really crowded during the week but theres still plenty of space
Great space, lots of roots and they cycle them through pretty regularly. A lot of fun extra classes as well
Great gym: Well ventilated, lots of space, good temperatures, good variation in activities and resources. Definitely a good spot to climb and hang out.On a broader scale BKB feels much more corporate than smaller places, hopefully you wont have to deal with that side of it.
Tons of space for climbing (bouldering, top roping, leading), studying, or working out. Came here with a friend while I was in town. Friendly staff!
Great gym with a real sense of community. You are welcomed whether you are a novice or expert climber. That being said it is not the place for you if all you are looking for is somewhere to lift weights.
Great gym with a ton of features. Absolutely not worth the day pass price of $36... Who on Earth would pay that? Go to Central Rock instead.. more locations, friendlier staff and more affordable.
Amazing space, tons of options, very cool community. Only complaints are the lines could be more creative and the holds them selves need cleaning. Its hard to tell the colour of them while climbing they are so dirty.
Absolutely the most innovative yoga studio Ive been in. They not only allow but encourage doing yoga on the walls, over the thickest cushiest yoga mats Ive ever seen in case you lose your balance in a pose sequence. Love it. Adds a whole new dimension to yoga that more studios should explore.
Pricy, but lots of fun to be had. Great bouldering walls. The lead and top rope sections generally are set on wood, so smearing is pretty rough. But there is a fantastic overhang thats a beast. They have a good workout space upstairs and more bouldering. They also have a parkour area but thats extra loot.
I went to bouldering for the first time here. The community is great and supportive, and the intro class that comes with the day pass is a great way to get started. Plenty of wall space so you can always find a spot to climb on. As well, there is some gym equipment if you want a more traditional workout, such as stationary bikes. Can be a bit pricy but I would say the community is definitely worth it.
A personal favorite - many routes for Bouldering and changing routes very frequently. Also great gym facilities and rope climbing
I liked this place a lot. The majority of the staff were friendly and helpful. Alex helped us a lot during registration, training and all. As stated by other reviewers, the place is well lit and the area is clean. The tracks they have set up are fun and challenging to go through. Awesome way to enjoy a day off!
Emilys morning Sunrise class is the best! She is an awesome yoga instructor. Since I started doing this class, my mobility has greatly increased. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone!
Really nice climbing gym. They have a large bouldering area and ample top roping walls most up to about 50 I think. There are 5 or so auto belays too that seem to get crowded when busy. They also have a nice regular gym area as well as class rooms and a small work area with wifi making membership rather tempting. The staff is very friendly and helpful. (* I do not /yet/ subscribe to a monthly membership at this time so cant give a full review of that.)
Very Kool place. Tom was very informative with the tour of the facility. Its seems like a great place to be to try something new. They dont advise climbing the first time without training. Makes sense.
Great quality rock climbing gym, with lots of options however their rates are sky high for the area, and they do a ton of shady things on the admin side in order to claw money away from patreons and the front room staff at times will bend the truth to suit that purpose. Once again higher end gym with good classes and walls, but questionable business practices.
Ive been to a wide array of climbing gyms across the world, with this one being a standout. most others are pure climbing gyms. Brooklyn Boulders has an array of routes and grades (bouldering, top rope,.lead, 25 to 60 foot overhangs), but also an ambiance with live music, at least on the Sunday that I visited, long hours, sauna, hangout places if need to work, etc. its a social as well as rock gym environment.
The best gym in town if you’re into climbing and yoga. Good value for money. Friendly staff.
Used to go here a lot and wanted to get back into climbing so I got a 10 pass on Groupon. When I went to check in with a friend, I was told I had to use the 10 pass in 60 days and the passes cannot be shared with friends. None of these fine prints are on the Groupon. The worst part is the guy at the front desk had a terrible attitude - basically told me it’s not his problem and my friend can either pay separately for the (super overpriced) day pass or leaveAmazing facility, but seems to be run by a bunch of corporate machines now. That’s cool - do whatever you think is right for your business 👋
Super expensive for mediocre routes. If you want a full gym and hipster atmosphere this place is great, but not great for serious climbers. The long routes are high which is nice, but theyre also incredibly repetitive and very indoor. Nothing is very interesting. The staff have also been incredibly rude to me and my friends multiple times, including not believing my friend when he presented proof of pro sponsorship.Again, if you want classes and a full gym and are only moderately about climbing, this place is probably fine.
The space and the staff here are great. Ive been visiting off and on for about a year. Depending on time of day things can be a more crowded, but almost never a problem. Its handy that theres a collaborative workspace, although I havent made as much use of it as Id thought I might. If youre on the fence, Id recommend at least keeping an eye on the special events calendar — several are really creative and fun.
A gym that has way too many attendees, but I still go because there really is no comparable gym in my opinion. Routes get set fairly regularly, classes are good, and it also has an almost full gym with everything I need. The only downsides are:Way too many people depending on the time of the year,.Random closures every now and then.Ventilation isnt always easy in such large spaces, but I think I breathe in a tablespoons worth of chalk every visit.
The climbing areas/facilities/classes are great, and the community events rule too. What is surprising, though, especially given the high price, is how small the actual gym area is. Think: two benches, a couple places to barbell press, lots of overcrowding even if you show up when they open. A few of the benefits that sound great on paper are like that, where theyre not so great in real life: their co-working space, for example, is next door to a workout space, so expect lots of shouting and medicine balls thrown at the adjoining wall.
Love this place! Staff are really helpful, extremely friendly and encouraging. Great facilities to train and to chill out between climbs. It gets pretty busy during peak hours which says something about how fab they are! Excellent beginner classes available and staff and clients equally approachable.
Huge indoor climbing gym, with multiple workout rooms, a cafe, and retail space. Big bike rack in the front and next door to a great brewery. The climbing and bouldering offer everything from beginner to lead climbing for experts. Memberships are affordable if youre and avid climber.
Large space and good amount of routes. Itll be better if they change too rope more often.
Great climbing gym. Our son, who is an avid climber, loves this place. They allow kids.
An enormous and really fun place to climb. I went with my friend who had never climbed/belayed before and we could both climb on top rope using autobelays. They have a huge strength training area as well as locations to hang out or work, and one could feasibly spend all day there. The day pass cost is expensive, but the facilities justify it.
Beautifully, well kept rock gym. Large walls with difficult problems for both top roping and bouldering. Gym with benches and running machines. Study rooms and relaxation rooms. 2 slack lines set up. Staff is super friendly and helpful for beta when you need it. Super chill environment. Will deffinitely go back when in the area again.
I couldnt figure out how to get inside. . . I could see through the window--many dozens of people climbing happily. But, I walked all around the building, unable to find a door. Strange!
Great climbs in a very modern gym. They have study rooms and a decent selection of lifting equipment so you can do more then just climb here. Often very busy and one of the most expensive climbing gyms Ive been too
Love working out here. Kinda crazy expensive but I think its worth it. Climbing + yoga + events + co-working space + gym all in one. Can be super busy but if you go during the day time you can have the entire gym to yourself. Some of the staff are super great too. Lots of kids always running around is probably the only negative.
Great community and staff but - A Day pass is 72 dollars for 2 people, while their other competitors do a day pass for 2 for 40 dollars. Brooklyn Boulders can be very crowded & it is quiet small for what they advertise. That being said, for a beginner climber I would start out here and then branch out into other indoor climbing places.
A very friendly environment with helpful staff that tailor to multiple ability levels. Modern facility and great way to explore a new hobby and get fit! Also hosts parkour on site in addition to the rock climbing; multiple activities to get involved
Didnt love the bouldering routes here, especially for a gym so named. They just didnt flow very well. Didnt try ropes so cant say if theyre any better. The amenities here are wonderful, though! Everything you need to basically live at the gym.
Great low key workout space that is welcoming for beginners and advanced climbers. Fun problems to solve, lots of climbing space for bouldering and belaying. Would recommend their yoga classes. If you need a space to do work, lots of working space.
Large climbing area with Yoga and other exercise equipment and many events ++.Downside is the climbing walls are a bit on the lower quality side with no option to smear, route are also quite average and grades are about 1 or 2 higher than they should be. In addition there is often a large number of people here. Pricing is also a little on the high side with various conditions. But, this place is good overall.
Cant remember having this much fun exercising and doing activities
A beautiful climbing gym with a great community. BKBS offers a wide variety of classes and fitness amenities. While it does get crowded during peak evening hours, its still a great place to unwind and meet some fellow climbers.
I absolutely love this place, its been my favorite climbing experience in the Boston area. I just wish it were a little more affordable 🙃
Incredible climbing gym. A wide variety of elements within the disciplines (bouldering, toprode, lead climbing). The quality and cleanliness of the facility, along with the kindness of the staff, is what makes this place a 10/10
Amazing indoor climbing. This place is designed so you could live there. There is a lounge, gym, store and even a place to set up your computer and do your day job. Ive even seen a great concert here. Also cool: you can lock you bike up inside!
Friendly staff, ultra clean facilities, absolutely packed with things happening and a great community; really a better YMCA than an actual gym. Four stars and not five because of the price; at $130 a month ($100 students veterans etc) it is a very expensive gym. It is not a gym however, because you get so much more than a Gymit. If you want a gym, and just that, go to anywhere else; if you want a community centre with everything then this is your new home.
Came here as a guest of a friend, so I am not a member (yet). Great atmosphere on a Thursday afternoon when I went, there are walls upon walls for climbing here, the space is much bigger than it looks on the outside. They have a lot of 15’ walls as well as much higher ones for belaying. I stuck to the easier ones and had it length of different routes to choose from. Also many other activities here make it great to come and hang out often like gym equipment, study areas, game rooms, and ping pong to name a few. Being right next to a brewery is awesome too!
A little too trendy for its own good. Needs to add more lead walls and harder routes.
Go here 3-4 times a week. Good gym equipment, great classes (yoga with Laura is great). Decent climbing, although I think Metro Rocks walls and setting are better.
As a (mostly) novice climber. This facility offered everything I could have wanted as someone not super familiar with the sport. From private instruction, to fitness equipment, to some chill work and lounge spaces, it had everything my friends and I needed.Tons of bouldering, top roping, and lead climbing, which meant virtually no waiting. Definitely a great addition to Somerville/Cambridge.
Great top rope access, long routes, fantastic lead tongue with varying levels and new challenges every time I visit. Bouldering, weight area, boxing, and parkour available as well. Kid and dog friendly. Best experience- bring a belay partner.
They offer some great opportunities to get started as a beginner. I took their intro to climbing class (covers bouldering basics), their learn the ropes class for top roping, and their V2-V3 class for intermediate bouldering techniques. All the the classes very run well and they are reduced price if you have a membership.Only complaint is parking can be a bit weird but thats a typical problem for the area
