I took my son here after getting a referral from my pediatrician. They told me right away that he absolutely needed a helmet!! They said his ears were uneven and he had a slight flat spot on the back of his head. I was surprised by this and they really convinced me he needed a helmet. The clinician that evaluated him was an RN, not an Orthotist or MD. In fact, there was no doctor or Orthotist on staff. How can an RN make this kind of clinical recommendation for this treatment?I decided to get a second opinion from Chicago Pediatric Orthotics right in the building next door, who did NOT recommend a helmet. I then took my son to a Pediatric Surgeon, Dr. Vicari who also said he absolutely DOES NOT need a helmet. He recommend more tummy time. This was a bit of a roller coaster for me, but in the end Im satisfied I got a second opinion. I recommend you get a second opinion from a doctor before deciding to go a head with a helmet. Your child may not need it or may need surgery and the helmet could make it worse. This place is owned by venture capitalists who make a ton of money off selling these helmets. Glad I didnt fall into the trap.
My Daughter Amelia was born with Torticollis which greatly impacted the way her head was growing and forming. My pediatrician recommended Cranial Technologies in Skokie. I am beyond thrilled with the staff. Every single person there is well educated and super nice. I have seen amazing improvements with the use of her DOC Band. I highly recommend this office. They have great Covid 19 safety measures in place. Text when you arrived and wait in car for room to be sanitized. They text you when they are ready for you to enter the office. Temperature checks in waiting area. Masks must be worn in office and hand sanitizer is available. One adult and child is allowed in at visit.I appreciate the extra caution especially when it comes to children. Thanks for always going above and beyond.
Everyone that works here are is accommodating and helpful. We had such a great experience and are thrilled with the results. Our daughter was in her band for about 2 months. Our son also came here about 3 years ago for a band and the experience was equally as great.
Mary Kay is awesome! Dreaded the helmet but It helped our son tremendously and she gave us a great experience!
My daughter treated at the Skokie clinic and the entire staff was kind, informed, and greeted us by name. We just graduated from the DOC Band and we achieved excellent results and would recommend Cranial Technologies to anyone seeking a head shape evaluation and treatment for an infant with a flat head/plagiocephaly. The technology here is impressive and designed for infants with plagiocephaly and the clinicians are the experts in treating plagiocephaly which resulted in a quick and easy treatment and amazing results. The staff made us feel like family and we will miss seeing them at our adjustment appointments!
There are no medical doctors on staff and there are cases where your child could have fused sutures and the helmets will make it worse. Cranial Technologies recommended my son be placed in a corrective helmet. Luckily we got a 2nd opinion from a pediatric plastic surgeon who diagnosed him with Sagittal Synostosis which required surgery and had we gone in a helmet it would have made it worse. Children need to be seen by medical professionals to rule out craniosynostosis before going here.
