Battery died in our rental within 4 hours of picking up. It was a Sunday late afternoon, in the middle of nowhere, we stopped to grab something to eat. Battery was completely junk, luckily some good Samaritan gave us a jump and we were at least able to get back on the road (after dumping distilled water in it as well)...but could not shut the car off. During this time I spent an hour waiting on hold for roadside assistance to answer, found out our only option was a 2 way tow (they tow new rental in and take old one). Made the plan and 15 minutes later roadside assistance called back and informed us that after talking to AVIS again the 2 way tow couldnt be done until the next day because the tow could not be completed before they closed. Hubby needed the car for work the next day, so that wasnt an option. Roadside Assistance got the OK for us to go buy a battery (which we were previously told not to do). In the process of changing battery hubby got acid burns on his arms, because we had basic tools and no gloves. Rental was fine after that, but knowing that AVIS was not willing to make things right and make sure we had a dependable vehicle speaks volumes for this company. Obviously the car wasnt even checked over before being sent out again. Have a feeling it will be a battle with Avis to get reimbursed for the battery...guess well see.
I usually rent from Enterprise but found a deal with Costco for a cheaper price with Avis. When I received the vehicle, it was an obvious pungent smoke odor. The front desk person couldn’t smell it but agreed to document it for me. They didn’t have any other vehicles available aside from SUVs (at an upcharge) so I couldn’t get another one.Upon return, the same front desk person claimed it smelled like smoke and that either I or someone in the car with me smoked. He said he remembered me and what I said about the car smelling like smoke when I first got it.I was incredibly frustrated because I was the only one in the vehicle during my whole reservation and I don’t smoke. It was incredibly unprofessional and embarrassing to be accused like that when I don’t smoke. He said he saw ashes and I asked for him to show me. I am glad I took pictures when I obtained the vehicle. Luckily, he said he wouldn’t charge me the smoking fee but the whole interaction was enough for me to never obtain a rental from this location again. I understand that it is their job to check the vehicle, but it could have been done more professionally.I ended up filing a claim with Avis Customer Support as well because I didn’t want to be hit with a smoking fee afterwards.
Excellent customer service/Rental needs, Bimal was very professional and friendly. Highly recommend this place. Would give them 10/10 from me!!
Me and my dad got a new car!
I have rented many vehicles from this Avis location in Shorewood, IL as I travel considerably with my job. Everyone there is very courteous, friendly and helpful. The vehicles are always clean and ready on time. I highly recommend them for your rental car needs!
I rented a mini van to move my daughter into college from the Romeoville location. I made a reservation 60 days in advance. They called me 3 days prior to confirm my reservation and type of car and said I would be all set for a 9:00 pickup on a Friday morning.I received a call at 6:18 (they close at 6) the day before to tell me they did not have my car available and I would have to downgrade.I called their customer service line and the agent was unable to locate a minivan. He transferred me to his supervisor who told me they didnt have and when asked how he was going to fix the issue he told me “thats not my job”. I asked to talk to his manager and he transferred me back to customer service (his name was Paul). The customer service agent said he located one that was at Midway airport - which is over an hour away compared to 10 minutes. Said I have no choice and asked what the new rate would be since I have to go out of my way and be delayed for my trip. The agent said he would do me a “favor” and honor my rate. So I have to drive 2 hours out of my way and leave later than planned and you are doing me a “favor”. He then got short with me and hung up the phone.I wrote Avis an email and cancelled my reservation. I called Hertz and what a difference in professionalism and customer service. They were able to reserve me a minivan. Unfortunately last minute, I had to pay $115 more than originally planned.Avis wrote back and offered $50 off my next rental. I wrote them back and let them know due to their incompetence, they cost me over $115 more and a waste of time the night before my trip. They came back and offered a free day rental. I wrote back and said, Again, I paid over $115 more for a rental so I would have given them a second chance if they would have offered a free weekend to make up for the $115 more I had to spend at the last minutes.Do not use Avis!!! Very unprofessional and poor poor customer service. I used Hertz, which I had used before and their service was excellent. The only reason I did not use Hertz was because Avis’s rate was so much cheaper. Doesn’t matter if they are not able to service your needs.Avis was extremely unprofessional and I will NEVER EVER use this company again!!! Beware!!
Great customer service!!!!!! Nice selection of newer vehicles. Well done Mr Bimal!👍
Great customer service, good deals
Very accommodating and helpful. Would use again.
The Shorewood location is my preferred location for renting cars. I rent a vehicle almost every week and Shorewood is friendly, courtesy and always thinking of the consumer. I highly recommend this place!

TWO BAD EXPERIENCES!I accidentally left something in the car when I returned it. The next day, I called this location and the individual working there was very rude and didnt want to help me out. He basically said, too bad. We will find it if we do. Not willing to check or willing to check if it had just left to another location. I called back a week later and still nothing and no change to his kindness to help. I then called corporate and they said they couldnt do anything for me. Then right before hanging up the phone, he said, Oh yeah, I am supposed to direct you to this website. Wow. Really. Couldnt the you tell me sooner or rather the local location have told me that. Anyway, the website doesnt have the location listed. I called and filed an automatic claim with Avis that I lost an item. I was told that I would get an email and follow up. NOTHING! I mean, apparently Avis doesnt care about me at all. Horrible. I now will never get it back.Second experience. As I was picking up the car, I asked for an Ipass. He said no problem. I get into the vehicle and there was no Ipass. I went back inside to ask for one and he gave me this look and deep breath. I could tell it was HIGHLY inconvenient for him, so I said forget it, I will use my personal one (which I dont like to do but will in a pinch). This was a pinch because he apparently didnt want to take care of it. Then when I needed to return the car, it wouldnt start. They had to tow it away. I called this local office to let them know they took it away and I cant return it. He said, its fine they will return it. Well, 14 days later I get a call from corporate saying that I didnt return my car yet and I better return it or else. You kidding me. Wow.I would be willing to change this rating or take it down if I got some kind of response from Avis, but until then I must leave it.
Was given a clean, new Honda Accord to drive for the weekend while my main vehicle was being serviced; great service, prompt follow through. Will definitely be back.
