Everyone on the mats is friendly and willing to help you learn, especially the higher belts. Sensei Harris is not only a smashing machine, he is also incredibly great with the kids in this sport. His way of teaching applies to competition and how to defend yourself in the real world. Once you join, you’re family and that says a lot about the environment Sensei and everyone who rolls here have created and continue to nurture. Starting this journey in BJJ has been incredibly beneficial, mostly off the mat in my everyday life. I had the pleasure of doing a drop-in class while visiting from out of town. I called the contact number listed on the website prior to doing so, and was welcomed and encouraged by the owner of said establishment.Once at the faculty, I was warmly greeted by the instructor and all the students which made me feel at home automatically. (After running my own school in another art for over a decade,) I got lucky to find this academy close to home, but it is surely worth a drive if you arent. The chief instructor is amazing in his own ability, but it is really his calm methodical teaching method that is profitable for students. I learn something every single class. And usually that something is seen from the application, alternatives that arise, and counters to the technique...so the lessons dont become isolated but weave together with other movements. The academy is impeccably clean, the students are noticeably friendly and polite, and the overall atmosphere is lighthearted and fun. We roll all the time which is a great motivator and place to try new information. The workout is incredible. I feel sore but great for two days. You really should check it out if you ever wanted to learn how to work on the ground. Five stars for sure.

In general a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu is often recognized by society as being equivalent to obtaining a doctorate degree in a given subject. When going to school and getting a degree you are making an investment of sorts. Similarly when you join a jiu jitsu school you are making an investment both in the school and obviously yourself.My reason in bringing this up is if you live in the Sarasota area and are planning to make that commitment to jiu jitsu then INVEST IN THIS SCHOOL. This academy is still relatively young and I’d love nothing more the to see it grow. I live and train in an incredible school in Tallahassee, so I feel that I have some idea of what incredible potential looks like.For those of you reading this review who are unfamiliar with the history of BJJ; Jeremys lineage is undoubtedly great. The Ribeiro brothers are a force to be reckoned with. Whether you are an active BJJ practitioner or a prospecting one heed my advice in joining this school.

Love this place and can’t wait to train there again the next time we visit the area. Ribeiro is an amazing organization with a broad reach world wide, allowing you to train at any of their academies. But you don’t have to train Ribeiro to enjoy the folks here, they are very welcoming and friendly. So if you are looking to try Jiu Jitsu, give these guys a call. If you train and are on vacation, bring a gi and stop by. Either way get that mat time in! That being said, Jeremy Harris Saulo Ribeiro Academy has been the best school that I have trained at by far. Jeremy teaches solid fundamentals that can be used as self defense and will help you win Jiu-Jitsu competitions. His gym is brand new, super clean, and nice.
