We highly recommend Istanbul Rug, San Rafael, CA! We acquired an older Persian carpet from a relative that was in need of cleaning and repair. We called another shop who didnt seem to care or have the time and really didnt know about this carpet. ISTANBUL RUG sent Errol and Ali out to assess the carpet, they were professional, personable and we learned much more about the carpet! We felt comfortable in their knowledge and ability to care for this one of a kind carpet from Iran. Were currently in process of having the restoration done and cant wait for its completion! Weve recommended Istanbul Rug to friends who have family heirlooms and they too have been extremely happy with the cleaning and amazing repair work by Ali, a master craftsman! The people at Istanbul Rug were super helpful in listening to our needs and design aesthetic. They seemed enthused about their rugs and were genuinely interested in finding something right for us. After going through a stack of Rugs, we came upon the most beautiful and mesmerizing Tibetan rug we had ever seen. After hearing the price, we realized there was no way wed be able to afford it. Right at that moment the owner Ogi came in the front door and came over to us--inviting us to take off our shoes and to walk and sit on the carpet. He told us where it had been made, the workmanship and quality of the materials. He could see how much we wanted it and with some really straightforward conversation about our capacities and what he was able to do, made what seemed like an impossible dream a reality. We love our rug and had a great experience dealing with all of the staff and owner.

Istanbul Rugs in San Rafael were amazing. They were so patient as we went through a hundred rugs and they have a thousand to choose from, all beautiful and superbly made. Then they brought a large selection to our house to choose the perfect rug for our space. Arol and Meta (sorry if that spelling is wrong) were professional and friendly. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating as I asked to see 100+ rugs and take home 20+ rugs for trials over multiple weeks. I would highly recommend Istanbul Rugs. I called Ogi after my dog stained my handmade wool rug. It had recently been cleaned by another shop but they were not able to remove a wine stain. Ogi picked up the rug, returned it later extremely clean and with the wine stain gone. Amazing, friendly and knowledgeable service. I will be back!

Ogi the owner is super professional and is real easy to work with. Hes authentic and really wants the buyer to be happy. He brought numerous rugs to our house, and took the time to understand what we like and didnt like, at the end of the day were very happy and the pricing seemed very fair. I will be going back to Istanbul Rug in the future and would recommend to anyone looking for these types of rugs.

So glad we went to the store, everyone was so helpful and helped us look thru stacks and stacks of carpets. We have bought area rugs from Turkey before in another state, but this was amazingly helpful. We picked 3 in the store and Oji brought them to our home so we could look at them with our furnishings. Finally stopped by Istanbul Rug on 4th St in San Rafael just to browse. I was warmly welcomed in and in a friendly relaxed way, I was encouraged to look through any pile of rugs I was drawn to. The person who helped me turned out to be the owner, a 4th generation rug dealer and is so knowledgeable, he practically knew every style of rug in the pile of 4 x 6 rugs I chose.Needless to say, I ended up buying a gorgeous Kurdish tribal rug which was generously discounted. Downtown San Rafael has a treasure of a store in Istanbul Rug. I strongly recommend stopping by to get an impromptu education on these high quality, storied collection of traditional, antique and silk handmade rugs and you could leave with one that you will love forever.

I just recently purchased this Saal Kazak rug for my new home in Marin. The showroom was incredible, absolutely stunning. It had lots of room, and many decorative rugs on display. The service provided was great, big fan of their rugs. Will most likely return for more rugs.

Pretty much everything you’d want. Big store. Huge inventory. And no hesitation to pull out lots of rugs for you to examine. Courteous and knowledgeable; can tell you where each rug is from and explain the significance of the pattern. They brought four rugs to the house, moved the big furniture out of the living room and laid the rugs out one by one. Then let us hold onto the one we liked for a couple of weeks to see if we continued to feel that it was the right rug for us. And it was. And only then did we pay. Five stars.

They have a large variety to choose from. All rugs are handmade and the colors are made from vegetable dye! Quality and the salesmen are not forceful/pushy! Love that I can exchange my rug for full value at a later point in time.

I had two Persian rugs cleaned and one of the rugs needed repair work along two seams. The service from beginning to end was excellent. While I was prepared to wait two weeks for the rigs and was surprised when I received a call 5 days after dropping off my rugs to let me know they were ready for pick up.The rugs look beautiful and the repairs are excellent. Istanbul Rug is a family business, with multiple generations working in their two stores. I have bought two rugs on different occasions from them and have been extremely happy with my purchases. They have a beautiful selection and are very knowledgeable about each piece they carry - what country it’s from, the symbolism within the design and what might be known about the specific weavers. They really bring each piece to life, in telling its story.Istanbul Rug has excellent service. They are very kind, patient and not pushy. They generously brought quite a number of rugs to my house, so I could see them in my rooms, which made all the difference in making my selection. After purchasing my latest rug, they delivered “just” a rug pad on a different day (which was at least a 45 minute drive, one way, for them to come to my house again) and installed it for me, after cutting it to the appropriate size on the spot.The really stand behind their products - they’ve told me multiple times that if I ever decide I don’t like or want one of my rugs anymore, they are willing to let me exchange for another, at any point in time! Also, I love knowing that they offer cleaning and repair services, should I need them in the future. I know we are well taken care of with them!

We stopped by the store to educate ourselves before leaving for a Covid escape to Istanbul to buy a new carpet for our dinning room.All of the sales staff exhausted themselves flipping, tossing and sweating through nearly all the carpets in the store. Then, as advertised, a very low pressure house visit where they brought every carpet we had eyed to our house to ‘try on’.I am so glad we took that extra step, because the original first choice fell to our second choice.We are at the airport now flying to Turkey, but now I can relax, enjoy the wares while in Turkey, and who knows, maybe we’ll look for a smaller carpet, or even return to San Rafael and visit Ogi again! But the large purchase we planned that kept me up at night is now on our floors for when we return. We are very happy with the experience Ogi and his team gave us, even if they didn’t ply us with tea!

I was hesitant at first to walk in to this rug store because it looked super expensive! My wife and I drove by the showroom couple of times and the view at night is spectacular. Ogi was super nice and knowledgeable about rugs. We picked a few rugs for our living room and they brought it to our home. After some Turkish Tea they brought, we settled for a nice traditional rug for a reasonable price. You do pay for quality and they are willing to work with you.

My wife spilled coffee on my Kashmir silk rug. Large stain, bad. Not knowing what to do, we called Istanbul Rug. They came to our apartment, examined the rug and noticed two small tears. Thankfully they were able to perfectly repair the tears and clean the rug. The rug is now back and cleaner than ever. They were quick, professional, and friendly. We will certainly use them again.

Ogi & Ali took great care in cleaning our rugs and repairing one of our cherished kitchen runners! When we visited the store they closely inspected each of our rugs, spent time with us telling of their history and age, it was truly educational and very insightful.Ali was able to spot areas of repair that we were unable to see that if went unchecked would have been very damaging.Even though we have not purchased a rug here(yet 😉) everyone in the shop was very kind and willing to help us with great care.Our rugs were cleaned sooner than expected during our remodel and they were happy to hold on to them until we were ready and then covid19 struck and after 4 weeks of SIP, Ali met us at the store by appointment and we quickly whisked our bright, colourful and clean rugs home.Thanks guys!John & Garrett

Istanbul Rugs is a fabulous place to visit ! The owners are fun and filled with knowledge and great ideas. I did eventually buy three rugs from them and believe me they earned every dollar... Three men came to my house and basically helped me update and brighten my home. It was not easy but they were terrific.The selection of carpets is wonderful and the store is really beautiful. My wife and I went to Istanbul Rug. This was our first visit. Ogi showed us about 25 rugs of which about 5 or 6 looked interesting. Several days later he drove his truck to my house in Napa (about 60 miles) with all the rugs I was interested in and we laid them out on the floor one by one to see how well they fit in with my furniture. I ended up buying one 9x12 rug for the living room and one 9x13 rug for the dining room. It was not a high pressure sale and Ogi knows his business. Oh, and I also had him clean and fix 3 other rugs/ runners I own. All looks good. Thanks Ogi.

Having seen the transformation of the buildings exterior over the past months, I was curious to see the inside.
