I visited Metroflex after getting a recommendation. I am not much of a gym person but I do need a lifestyle change. This gym is family owned and local which is cool. Both owners are nice and personable. This is my first open-air gym experience and I am enjoying it over a closed in gym. Fresh air is definitely better.Daniel (owner) has been doing personal training for me and set me with a simple meal plan that is easy to follow and easy to prep. The workouts are intense but focused. This is very much a no frills results orientated gym.

The vibe you get from being at Metroflex is different from the other gyms. The Energy is always high no matter what time of the day you go. The Bestest iron house gym in my opinion and Ill be here getting my gains from here on out 💪😎👍

Metroflex is the perfect gym for those that want to become healthy without the pressures of long contracts. The owners are more like family than just taking your money. Daniel, the owner, is passionate about helping others reach there fitness goals.

As a long time member, to client of Daniel Hagerty, to Trainer at Metroflex. You can say I drink the koolaid. I have always felt like part of a family. Not only that but have always had the best workouts and best results while training under Daniel Hagerty.

In my opinion, this gym is large gym with an open concept and has alot of equipment. I visit this gym a few times a week and have been doing so for a little while before I left a review. I can honestly say it deserves the 5 stars. Friendly staff and managers as well, they are always welcoming and kind. The gym has a great atmosphere to get a workout in, very motivating. Good location in my opinion as well. Great job!

Real gym real results, really great place!

Can’t get enough of this gym. I recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a new gym to try. The owners are also super cool! They care about the gym and the people who use it, and you can definitely tell.

Seriously love this place! The environment is amazing and the trainers are top notch! They even have a massage therapist on site! Wonderful people with everything I need!

If muscles is what you are wanting, Daniel is your best guide to help you accomplish those goals we all think are impossible for someone who has never even tried. Great gym, great atmosphere by far my favorite gym in San Marcos! Danial and Michelle do a great job running the gym and actually listen to the members. If you’re in San Marcos this is the only place to work out.

I absolutely love Metroflex San Marcos! Daniel & Michelle have become like family over the last couple years, and that translates over to a relaxed and supportive gym environment. Even at 530 in the morning there are a few people there, and everyone is friendly and helpful (I had lots of questions when I started). The new location is great, it’s next door to my office, but they have a lot more area to work with, which means outdoor stuff like tires and strongman equipment, and then a large cardio area, and showers. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect gym for myself, my daughter loves the daycare center as well.

Ive never felt more at home than I do at Metroflex San Marcos. Im an endurance athlete, so I was a little skeptical about joining a gym that is known for hardcore training. But I have been welcomed with open arms by the owners, Daniel and Michelle, as well as all of the other staff and members. The location is awesome - a mile and a half from my apartment downtown, so I can run or bike there anytime, plus its just a short walk from Rio Vista Park, where you can jump in the river after a tough summer workout. I also love the unique open-air aspect of the gym, which allows members to get plenty of fresh air and sunshine as they work out. The gym is very clean, well-kept and stocked with everything you need, and there is always motivating music blasting. Even if Daniel is training someone else, he wont hesitate to chat with you or correct your form during your workout. The Metroflex family isnt afraid to share and live out their faith, and that is very important to me in a gym. Ive become a much better runner, athlete and person because of what this gym and these people have done for me. They even offered me a sponsorship for simply racing in their apparel! If you want a no-nonsense, family-oriented and locally-owned gym, with special discounts for veterans/law enforcement, students and families, Metroflex is the place for you!

Phenomenal Dan and Michelle are outstanding people. The gyms environment is great as well I was nervous when I started going due to gym anxiety and after being there for 15 mins my anxiety was put to rest. Didn’t have to deal with the “gym bros” all walks of life come here and I never felt judged. The only reason I stopped going was due to starting college.

This place has changed my life. It is close by, affordable, and my kids love the childcare. All important things for a mom trying to stay in shape, BUT the owners go above and beyond to make you feel like family, and thats what I really love about this place. I also love the fun set-up, challenging equipment, and motivating/encouraging staff.

The lift like a lady class is perfect for the busy mom who needs an hour to get away and get their fitness on.

Best gym in San Marcos. Daniel and Michelle are wonderful people. You arent just members at this place - they make you feel like family. All the tools you need to get strong and in shape. Other members always willing to lend a spot or even hold your phone and record if you are trying to check out your form.

Great atmosphere! Day care workers are friendly and love kids, front desk staff was friendly and eager to help! No one was forcing a membership on you. And the trainers were eager to help but didnt act like your were the next sale! Lots of room and weights to go around! It is a open air gym so warm in the summer and bring a hoodie in the winter!

I love Metroflex Gym San Marcos. Everytime I go there the people are real friendly, they are very knowledgeable in what they are doing. The owners are awesome people. The trainers are all great! Ive seen great results in my weight loss thanks to their motivational trainers, I can tell that the people working here are doing this for the love and the passion they have to help others and to help those who are determined and want results whether it be to gain muscle or burn fat. Overall great gym! If you go there you wont regret it you will love it :)

David and Michelle are heartless people. One of the main reasons I joined was reading the positive reviews and ignored the negative ones but turns out I have had a bad experience. I purchased 12 personal training sessions and paid in full to get the discount at $50 per session instead of $60 if you pay in full. On my 2nd session I hurt my back during our workout and wasn’t able to continue. I never signed anything prior to my sessions stating any type of gym rules and regulations. I called David and asked him if he could find it in his heart to give me my money back for the remaining sessions since I was injured and would not be returning. I offered to pay him for the first 2 used sessions at his normal rate of $60. He declined and told me my sessions would still be there even if I returned in a year. I told him that’s not feasible for me. He then went on to talk about how his family lives pay check to pay check and he can’t keep the lights on so therefore will not return my money. Then I asked him if he could pay me in installments back as I understood his family situation. He told he would little by little. My husband has requested from him via Venmo multiple times and Its been about 3 months and we haven’t seen one $1 dollar back. We can see every time someone pays him money and he hasn’t even tried to keep his word. It’s pretty sad that there are people in this world who do not do right by others, David is one of them.

I have been to several gyms in the San Marcos area, and Metroflex is BY FAR the BEST. Everyone at this gym is SERIOUS about working out. No standing around and gossiping here. This gym is a place to come and ESCAPE the hassles of your day. Every time I walk in the door, I can feel the stress lifting from my shoulders immediately. They have everything you need to get an excellent workout, and it doesnt hurt that they play awesome music to help you get pumped up! A number of classes are also included in the price, for those of you who are motivated by working out in a group. Notice I say that these classes are included. You are not charged an additional fee, as is the case at many other gyms. And did I mention that the monthly price is cheap and very affordable? There is also no charge or penalty if you need to opt out (although you WONT want to, unless you are moving very far away). All of the people at Metroflex are very friendly, and its a laid back environment. No need to worry about intimidation or feeling out of place. So get in this gym, get your workout on, and have fun while doing it. You wont regret it!

This gym has all the equipment I need. Tractor tires, sledge hammers, kegs, stones, prowler, ext.. There is also tons of iron and steel to pick up, hoist overhead, or squat. Yeah my kind of place.Now if they only had showers it would be 5 stars. This place still needs a lot of work.

By far some of the most shady business I’ve ever seen. Canceled the membership 2 times and he’s called back for more money and threatened to send it to credit people.Don’t waste your money, there’s plenty of other gyms with better morals. It’s worse than corporation gyms...

People who know gyms know Metroflex. Great atmosphere, people, and support. Im not sure how national brands operate in their territory.

I love this place. Ive only been once but it was great. Hardcore atmosphere, lack of mirrors, deadlift friendly and they dont lock you into contacts. The day pass was very cheap. He told me that if my day passes equal to the monthly membership price, the rest of the month is free. Ive never been to a single gym that is that relaxed about payments, gyms usually want to lock you into a contract thats almost impossible to get out of. I should like to visit again and try out the strongman equipment.

Daniel and Michelle combine solid fitness expertise with a family atmosphere for a truly unique San Marcos gym experience. Who doesnt appreciate low daily and monthly rates and no contracts? I wouldnt want to work out anywhere else.

Great back to basics gym but with a good variety of both traditional strength training and strongman equipment.

This gym has a reputation as a hard core facility, I guess because of graffiti on the walls and the smell, which may be cool for the teenagers, but I prefer something thats has a better layout and more equipment, and is air conditioned. My old gym was in a small town and was I surprised to find out that it was set up much better to work specific body parts. Metroflex also lack many pieces of free weight equipment Im use to that work the back. Many areas of the gym will leave guests waiting to use the one or two pieces it may have to work that specific area. Thats OK if you need a long wait between exercises. If you want something raw and edgy despite shortcomings, this is the place for you. If you prefer A/C, no smell, short waits for nice equipment, and a little more sophistication, keep looking, this place is crude.

This has been my first experience into a “non-commercial” and I really love every minute of it. The owners are really friendly and knowledgeable; they make your entire experience wonderful. The facility is wide open with a number of solid workout devices that are spaced apart. They also have a lot of unique non-standard devices such as large tires, sand bags, chains, weighted poles, etc. to expanse your fitness knowledge. There is no TV’s or any forms of entertainment to watch while workout, but I found to be more focused on my goals instead. I would only workout here if you’re serious about making your goals happen.

Dont listen to the haters! This gym is legit and the owners care about you and dont see you as another chance to make money. Ive been a member for over 3 years and have had my ups and downs with my pursuit to a healthier lifestyle. When I dont show up for awhile the owner himself contacts me to make sure Im ok. This gym cares and is for everyone not just the bodybuilders. Those that say otherwise just couldnt hack it so they gotta spew hate. Thats real!!!

I wouldnt be competition ready if it wasnt for this gym... 20 years or more of the best knowledge. Thats what you need to be a competitior.

Love the gym. I used to go to big time corporate gyms and i always felt uncomfortable. This gym is set up very awesome. Dont get me wrong there is huge room for improvement and they will improve. its thecright gym for me at this time!

I really like this gym! The atmosphere, the crew, the members, the equipment, the je ne sais quoi combine to make this gym a legitimate old school, no nonesense, get-pumped-up-and-smash-the-goals type of place. I have seen Daniel, the owner of the gym, go out of his way to orient new members, to give feedback to the regulars, to offer suggestions to anyone that requests them.Further, I absolutely love the layout and location of their new location. I would undoubtedly recommend this gym!

Metroflex San Marcos is like my second home. The atmosphere is great and the people are even better. Most gyms now a days you walk in and someone will be on the treadmill watching tv and drinking starbucks....At Metroflex everyone has goals and are determined to meet them while doing everything they can to help you along your journey as well. I have never been part of a gym that was more like my own family like this one, where everyone was their for you no matter what and also there to give you a hard time and joke.Best of all there are no contracts!Check it out...you wont regret it!!!

Anyone who says this gym sucks needs to go get a membership Planet Fitness. “Lack of equipment”= I’m afraid of squat racks and would rather watch tv on a treadmill”

Great new set up!

Ive been a member for about 8 months and really enjoy this place-over the past 15 years I have been a member at a few other places (some in San Marcos, some other cities) and this place is my favorite. It is not a gym where people come to hang out around a bunch of cardio machines talking w their friends, this is a place where people of all ability levels come to train-whether its the champion power lifters, the MMA guys, or people like me who are there competing against their former selves in an effort to change their overall health and fitness level, we are all there in a serious effort and this place provides the framework of facilities and staff for it. Besides all the normal weights and machines, metroflex has utilitarian strongman type items like keg shells, tractor tires, sleds, chains, and heavy ropes. The building is in an industrial park so the bay doors of the weight room open up to a parking lot where you can step out and use those extra items, run sprints, or whatever. Im happy there, and look forward to seeing how far I can go in 2014.

Great family gym that looks to continue the legacy of the Metroflex gym. For the negative reviewer to blemish the San Marcos location in comparison to Austin or San Antonio is ill suited at best. I have been to Metroflex Plano and Metroflex Mid-Cities ones actually in the Metroplex and they are ran the same. The business model holds true for all Metroflex gyms: a Christian Family run business. Metroflex gyms have average joes and janes(and all stereotypes you can think of) and serious competing athletes. That is the beauty of this gym: Average people can become extraordinary athletes if they become inspired by the athletes they see and converse with at their gym.

The owner grunts at people and its not worth the membership to the place. Old rusted weights...poor facility....its hardcore...no its cheap and it sucks. The owner is a jerk....i will never go back for any reason......

Metroflex San Marcos is the true hardcore training facility available in the Austin/San Marcos area. Lifting weights in the heat may be hardcore to some, but the true metroflex heart and spirit shines in our every day gym members who never miss a workout while working jobs and taking care of their families. Some may denounce metroflex San Marcos for supplying a day care service and group x classes but I feel like this is what makes it truly hardcore. The moms and dads who work their tails off during the day still make time to get in the gym and stay healthy and achieve their goals, without a day care this would not be possible. I cant help but walk into the gym every day and be inspired by the hard work being put in around me from world class powerlifters and mothers of 3 alike. Some people who have posted here may be bitter because of the way Danny and Michelle run their gym. The fact is they are an institution in San Marcos and contribute to the community more than most local businesses and truly give back while still providing a facility to achieve your goals. The metroflex name comes with history and expectations, both of which run deep within the walls of the humble warehouse Metroflex calls home. Bodybuildiers, powerlifters, fitness girls, mma fighters, and average joes and moms all working side by side in the best training environment around. Come in and see for yourself, its everything you hoped for and more!

The rating shouldnt be poor.more like fair. I understand that in a place like San Marcos they arent used to the good stuff.First off, the gym aint a true metroflex. You wanna see a real one? Try austin or san antonios. This one is like a watered down version. Full of college kids and middle aged people. they have zumba like classes and a day care.The management runs it closer like a corporate gym.People here like it and I guess its an alternative to the other gym down the road.SMAC sounds to be a better bet in terms of hardcore gym. This one needs work.Go take a lesson from the other ones guys.For now, this is a pseudo-hardcore gym at best...at best.

This is THE gym in San Marcos. If you’re looking for a place to train without any BS (people trying to sell you stuff or getting looked at for making too much noise) this is the place for you.
